As Las Vegas celebrates the Golden Knights taking the NHL's Western Conference title and advancing to the Stanley Cup Final earlier today in Winnipeg, Canada, it has been home to music fans this weekend in hosting both the Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand tonight, and the Electronic Daisy Festival up the way at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. As we're halfway thru EOTB, two notable exes are waiting in the wings including a member of the legendary cast with a link to the subject of this bit…
   The first time that we went to Hawaii in this site's five years of documenting this MTV beat was for Are You The One? Season 1… renowned in many ways for that, it introduced the romantic reality genre to MTV viewers and a memorable cast including that show's only perfect match who are husband, wife and parents: Amber & Ethan Diamond. But one game-changing moment that took place in Kauai four years ago was also the first time that a Truth Booth held as much meaning in the game as watching lights go up in the night sky at the Matchup.
   In Episode 6 - and with more to be discussed on this when her moment comes to enter the house, Shanley's crush in the house, Chris T., was put into the Truth Booth with Canadian native Paige... a scheme conceived by Chicagoan turned Atlanta DJ Simone Kelly to try and help the house get back into the game. Once the words "Perfect Match" appeared, all hell broke loose as Shanley went after Simone in the first high-profile fight to take place in the AYTO house, and by which Simone would later take her talents to three Challenge seasons afterwards.

Last Sunday was Mother's Day, and Simone chose the right day & place to reveal something new: music. She released a new song on both SoundCloud and Instagram called "Dear Mama," and not surprisingly she dedicated the track to every mom, including hers - the only parent in their house. Monie wrote in her IG caption @SimoneJKelly:

"Growing up in a single parent home wasn't always easy. There were times when the hot water and lights were off, I stole toilet tissue from school, and my mom even worked 3 jobs to make ends meet. But she did it with such grace and never complained.! I'm from Chicago where you gotta leave to make it, before u get shot or become another statistic. I knew there were always bigger things in store for me. My mama taught me how to be a fighter & go-getta. My nanny taught me how to cook and be so nurturing. And my tee tee taught me how to pray. DC ExtraTime: A Gun Robbery Caught on Tape(!)

Two weeks ago, the world watched with anguish and horror by something that's become all too familiar the past few years: a high-profile mass shooting in the United States. In the wake of the two tragic events in Orlando in summer 2016 where 49 people died, last fall's Route 91 tragedy where 58 concert-goers were killed in Las Vegas and so many other incidents like these, lobbyists have been calling for stricter gun control laws similar to those found in other countries.
   The latest incident took place down on Valentine's Day in Parkland, FL outside Fort Lauderdale, where at Stoneman Douglas High School, 17 people were gunned down and 14 others were injured by the bullets fired by 19-year-old expelled student Nikolas Jacob Cruz. Right now, authorities and prosecutors haven't come to a conclusion of what caused Cruz to treat his old high school as his own shooting gallery, and as students have now returned from their grieving period the hashtag #NeverAgain has become a rallying cry for them to take action.

A person who has been featured a good number of times on this site has been John Jacobs from Season 1 of Are You The One?. If you don't remember who he is, he was that carefree comedian from Tampa who found himself in a tumultuous relationship with fellow fire-starter and 3-time Challenger Simone, and in a love triangle with Puerto Rican beauty Jacy and tough Brooklynite Scali. The ladder eventually determined the house's fate in them being the only cast to $1 million in less than 10 tries when they closed the deal four years ago this month, while the former was part of the first of the two invasions in three years of The Challenge by those outside the BMP universe on Battle of the Exes 2 when they and Adam & Brittany made that historic crossover before Big Brother and the Brits arrived on Vendettas.
   But while those two shows gave him a national platform, the truest passions of this Tampa resident are comedy and videomaking, and when he's not on the stand-up stage at night, by day you'd likely find JJ on the scene with a suit, a microphone and a camera in tow. If that sounds familiar, then he's doing what a lot of us do in being an independent reporter and newsman, building off of the early experience he had of doing "man on the street" interviews with would-be passers by. His YouTube channel features a number of those, including talking to media and delegates when the GOP held their convention in the Cigar City in 2012, the city's biggest annual event - the Gasparilla festival each February, and even out west along Hollywood Boulevard.

While our attention last Sunday was divided among the Closing Ceremony of the Winter Olympics, the winter return of The Walking Dead, the Celebrity Big Brother finale, a Bachelor Tell All special and a WWE PPV card, a gun show took place at the Tampa State Fairgrounds a mere eleven days after the Parkland shootings. JJ and his Tampa News Force had the opportunity to go around to talk to people about guns, gun control and everything related to them. This also includes mentions of the NRA, which has certainly found itself at the center of controversy in the past few days with sponsors pulling their support for the organization in droves in the aftermath of the Florida tragedy.
   Those who work in the news business, whether with the mainstream media or independently as citizen journalists, always relish those moments of being on the scene when something newsworthy takes place right in front of them... yours truly had that moment when I shot a fight at a local Target store for SnapChat and posted it on Instagram within minutes. JJ had that moment happen to him when he saw a man getting chased down in the parking lot at that gun show after he stole a gun off a table. Below is of what those in the biz refer to as a "vox pop", then that gun robbery caught on tape.

Welcome again to DC SocialPulse and to Episode 9 of Are You The One? as the drama and tension among 20 great people increases and the chances to share in MTV's biggest prize decreases.

   Last week, we saw the drama continue as Kayla & Ryan get into a huge argument that then led to the house turning on her when she revealed a secret that could hinder Amber & Ethan, plus slime and good news in the match department. And we also brought you the cast's attempt to emulate Ellen Degeneres' famous twitter-breaking selfie and other events from their reunion in LA.

   This week, the cast heads to the beach for a White Party and they let loose and enjoy themselves. However, in the latest love triangle in the house, John may have to come to terms with Jacy's increasing feelings for Scali. There's also a beach challenge where the couples will get down and dirty, with sand that is. And after garnering their best number yet in the matchup, will the group get even closer to the big prize?

Hi again everyone, welcome to another edition to DC SocialPulse and our twitter diary of episode 7 of Are You The One?. Last night saw the continuation of the events from Episode 6, where last week, the house began to search for the second perfect match after Coleysia & Dillan gave the group hope; Kayla gets called out for her Ryan/Wes threesome, and Simone makes a plan to break up Chris & Shanley. And after Chris and Paige were made a perfect match in the Truth Booth, the house went into chaos mode.

   And with the title of "It's So Hard... To Say Goodbye", that's where Episode 7 last night picks up with the continuation of Shanley and Simone's huge fight in the house as they are left reeling from the 2nd perfect match. Shanley becomes devastated by Chris leaving the house for the Honeymoon Suite, while Kayla becomes frustrated when Ryan comforts Jessica. And we see the emergence of potential love triangles that could again divide the house.

Why Are You The One? Can Thank Some Moms for Their Success

A little spur of the moment post on here. And with me being busy with following Real World Ex-Plosion and Are You The One?, I wanted to share a random thought on here, and why some of my very good friends can thank a few other members of Team MTV for their success.

If you probably don't know by now, I am a huge Real World/Challenge fanatic, but I am also an overall MTV fan as well. I am open to watching any show the channel airs, thanks mainly in part to my great passion for storytelling, being used to the laid-back nature of The Real World's way of telling stories of young people, and now with its personalities being very fan friendly. I might not be into the scripted fare much, but I could never say no to watching those shows either. I bought season 1 of Teen Wolf that I've watched only snippets of it, but it's there.

Something that sort of spurred this little random thought on here is a show that, aside from Catfish and a few other things, is probably MTV's most popular show that's on right now (not counting Jersey Shore which ended over a year ago) and yet it gets a good deal of haterade from the social world. And of course, I am talking about the Teen Mom franchise. When I was at the store earlier this evening, I spotted an US Weekly with one of the ladies from the show, Kailyn, on the cover. And it's been the case the last few years of the show's three casts gracing the tabloid covers at the checkout counter.

I know of a few of my followers, who are fellow RW/Challenge fans too and for whom I'm not going to call out on here so I don't myself get in hot water, might question why the show is still on the air. 

And thanks to me being busy, I still haven't yet watched those DVD's I found at the thrift shop of the first seasons of 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom, but they're there ready for me to watch. And of course, Farrah Abraham gave me a follow a little while back, thanks to having met Jay from Real World Ex-Plosion. Now, I might not watch the show right now, but I could never say no to watching it, just as long as it is a show that I can be comfortable watching it whether I like it or not in the end. And I also don't like to start drama in voicing a negative opinion publicly so I don't get in trouble.

But, for the cast of the show airs right afterwards in that money timeslot of Tuesday at 11pm, they sure have loved having that lead-in since they premiered. Last week with the fight we saw with Simone and Shanley (and for which it will continue into this week's episode), Are You The One? had its best viewership figures yet, and it looks from here that it will only grow from there with the drama that's yet to go down from Hawaii. It premiered with the best ratings of an MTV series premiere since Buckwild last year, and viewership & buzz has been growing, especially overseas with it airing hot off the presses on all international MTV channels as soon as a few days after it airs here in the U.S.  And every week, the show has also regularly trended on twitter, including last week's episode where Shanley and Chris & Paige were trending topics besides the show itself.

   And its success have also cast a halo effect on two social media pen pals too. Last Friday, my good buddy Andrew Kirk, who also happened to discover this show too, had his most-viewed web chat ever when he landed the first SpreeCast interview with Shanley, and more than 5,000 views of that interview were recorded, blowing away the number for his most-viewed interview on either his SpreeCasts or Blog Talk Radio podcasts which normally feature those from The Real World or Challenges. And for me, articles relating to Are You The One?, including our SocialPulse diaries of the episodes as the cast saw it when the show airs, have made up a good chunk of my DCBLOG traffic in recent weeks as well with fans wanting to catch up on the show's twitter conversation. I've had hundreds of hits on my blog in the past few weeks, including from those in Brazil, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Belgium, Spain and as far as China, wanting to see what it's like watching and tweeting along with this show. Yes, I do gather all of their tweets, even while they air three hours before me, so everyone can catch up. It's a long process but worth it.

This is not the first time that one MTV show has seen great interest thanks to airing right after another popular MTV show. Catfish: The TV Show garnered tremendous interest in the world of online dating and got tremendous viewership following Teen Wolf in its first year (Mondays at 11pm) that, for its second season it moved an hour early and to Tuesday last summer. Back in the days when it was just a half-hour show, The Real World helped launch two shows to success: The Osbournes (which aired after RW Chicago, Vegas, Paris and SD1) and the first season of Laguna Beach (which aired after RW Philly and moved to Mondays a year later).

    So before you can go off even further on the Teen Mom girls, their significant others, their families and their babies, please be aware that this group has become the group that not only many young women can thank for helping fuel the discussion over teen pregnancy, but also formwhich twenty of your favorite singles can thank for giving them the lead in to what is my guilty pleasure and joining Real World Ex-Plosion as the favorite show of the moment for me.

Hi again everyone, welcome back to DC SocialPulse and our twitter diary of episode 6 of Are You The One?. Now that the Sochi Winter Olympics are now in the books, most of my attention will focus back to the MTV world, and last night we had an explosive episode to say the least. Last week, we saw tensions rise among John and Simone reach a breaking point, a potential love triangle was brought about with Wes, Kayla and Ryan, and the fun of a waterfall challenge. The group had their chances improved in the path to a million thanks to getting their first perfect match in Dillan & Coleysia, while they also garnered their best perfect match number yet: five at the halfway mark.

   This week in episode 6 entitled "Turn the Paige", the house will try to figure out who the second perfect couple is. Kayla finally gets called out for her Ryan & Wes threesome, while Simone will try to break up with Chris T and Shanley machine. And the latest trip to the Truth Booth undoubtedly send the house and the group into chaos mode, while the week's challenge is a good, old-fashioned drinking contest.

   And following twitter's view, I'll offer perspective on an unwritten rule that I have which explains why I am so well respected among this cast (and Team MTV as well), and how, inadvertently and rather coincidentally, I actually pictured this very episode and two of the key figures in it. Two reminders before we start:

Taking a break from an event-filled day at the Sochi Olympics now for our latest edition of DC SocialPulse, last night was episode 5 of Are You The One?. And thanks to me heading to the local Radio Shack to buy a signal booster for the TV in the family room next to my room, I was able to watch it last night, while still recording the Olympics and David Wise winning gold (more on that later today).

   When we left Hawaii last week, the boys had to face the music in their exes giving valuable dirt on them to the girls and them spending the night in the house. Plus, one girl encountered trouble grasping onto the fact that a guy isn't interested in her, while two of her fellow girls launch their own romance plans. But when it came to them marching up, the group unfortunately stayed where they were, and got only two perfect matches and continued their misery in the truth booth.

   This week, we see tensions rise in the house among two of the singles reach a boiling point, while another girl's guy interest is renewed creating a potential love triangle with the guy she's holding on to. In a harbinger of what we'll ultimately see on Wednesdays come springtime, the group descends over a waterfall for their challenge. And thanks to a double down in them sending two couples to the Truth Booth, will the singles finally receive better news in their quest for the cash?

   And following twitter's view, I'll offer some thoughts on how this cast has joined my friends in the Real World/Challenge and MTV communities in the way that they have become fan friendly. Two reminders before we start:

Taking a detour now from the Sochi Olympics, me being busy with the Games, plus a technical glitch I encountered on Tuesday, I actually saw episode 4 of Are You The One? just last night, right after I had watched curling and the Westminster Dog Show (!). When we left Kauai last Tuesday, the cast were given a reality check when only two of the ten couples turned out to be perfect, setting back their shot at $1 million. Plus, we saw the guys go nuts (literally), while we saw another hookup, backstabbing and tears.

   This week, we'll see the show take a page out of the Real World/Challenge playbook and give the singles a twist in their quest for love, similar to what happened last week on RW Ex-Plosion. Plus, one girl encounters trouble grasping the message that her man isn't interested in her, while two other girls launch their own romances. And after twitter's view, I'll offer my thoughts on one of the members of this cast and how he relates to a fellow member of Team MTV in which they both recovered from a horrific accident to overcoming the odds.

Last night was episode 3 of Are You The One? as things are starting to get very interesting to say the least in this social romantic experiment. When we last left the Hawaiian islands, the cast had improved on their chances at a record $1 million payout by doubling the first week's perfect match total to 4 of 10, while we saw our first visit to "Poundtown," a search for a missing journal, some more fights and hook ups, and saw the cast have fun playing that favorite social game of ours, "Spin the Bottle."

   This week, we'll see the guys got nuts (literally) in the week's challenge, a little bit of backstabbing, a guy dressing up as a girl, another trip to the Poundtown room, another hookup and tears flow among the girls. On Tuesday, we had episode 2 of Are You The One? as the cast got to know each other more in their fabulous pad on the Hawaiian island of Kauai and continued their quest towards eventually find their perfect match and a cool $1 million jackpot they'll all share in should they be perfect. Last week, we saw our eclectic & energetic group of 20 single girls and guys begin their stay in the 50th state, as selfies, tension, a hookup, a challenge and more highlighted the premiere. In the end, though, the first trip to the truth booth proved unsuccessful, while matchup night produced only two perfect matches.

This week saw me take the opportunity to sample yet another new MTV show. As you all know, I'm a passionate fan of The Real World and The Challenge, and I'm obviously enjoying RW Ex-Plosion and after a roller coaster episode this week with Jay's mom suddenly passing away and Ashley being evicted, I'm eagerly anticipating the bombshell that comes next week with the exes moving in. But I don't limit my MTV viewing to just those shows only, as I'm open more than others to all of what else my favorite entertainment-based cable channel has to offer. The fact I've become very good twitter friends with cast members from a slew of other MTV reality shows (crazy kids in West Virginia, bartenders in Texas, nurses in the OC and passionate people in Uptown NY) is proof of how I'm passionate I am of the whole MTV scene, not just of the shows that, to me, feels almost like a religion.

On late Tuesday night after the season premiere of Teen Mom II, viewers got to check out the premiere of Are You The One?, MTV's bold love experiment where 10 single girls and 10 single guys have been brought together on the Hawaiian island of Kauai to not only live with each other, but also try & find their perfect match. And should all of the puzzle pieces be put in their exact places, they will all share in the biggest prize an MTV show has ever offered...$1 MILLION.

   I was brought to the show thanks to, of all things, a cast member - Jessica - liking some of my RW pix on Instagram just after the buzz began. Then after watching the trailer, I gave all the cast members a follow and I've become as good a friend with them as I am to the rest of the MTV community. And I also thought to myself that, since it's something I'm not usually accustomed to watching but with people that I've just become friends with socially, with elements from shows I've become familiar with and the record sum of money that will all go to them if all of them are correctly aligned with each other, then "Why not give it a try?" I became hooked by the first minute of the premiere.

And now, to the main event as we bring you the tweets of the cast and fans as America stayed up after Teen Mom for the premiere of Are You The One?. Plus in the As Fans Saw It section, you'll see tweets from me and fellow RW/Challenge fans, as well as my tweets to some of the cast, both on premiere night and in the days leading up to the show.
