Inside MTV Reality: The Look Ahead - This Spring and Summer Will Be Good...

And here we are... the third weekend of April and more than a year & a month into this new normal. And while things might still be not back to normal just yet, it's no doubt feeling nice and pleasant when it comes to the world of MTV Reality - and not just because the channel is turning the big 4-O.

If the sentiment given by Challenge Mania co-host Scott Yager is holding true, then 2021 as MTV sees it has been so good so far... but it hasn't just been about just the beat he (and us) covers the most. After we saw her baby gender reveal party on this week's finale, Teen Mom Tuesdays are transitioning from Cheyenne Floyd and the OG ladies to their TM2 counterparts with a friend of the mommy to be, Jade Cline of the Young & Pregnant 4th generation, taking the spot vacated by Chelsea Houska. And we've just wrapped up an emotional Homecoming trip down memory lane with the cast of the first season of The Real World in New York on Paramount+, three decades after they launched this entire genre.

Right now, we are in the final stages of Season 36 of The Challenge as the four sets of Double Agents are contesting the $1 million final up in Iceland, just south of the Arctic Circle. As it has been in every regular season since Rivals I, this finale is a two-day final split into two parts, and with our utmost respect to those who are cord-cutters and who are preferring to watch both parts back-to-back, we'll be carrying over our usual weekly SocialPulse diary of episode interaction into next week during an expanded weekend of episode content. But that doesn't mean that this week hasn't been eventful: this week has week 3 of The Challenge All-Stars on Paramount+ and another visitor to the Floribama Shore bubble in Montana... and we'll have those ahead in this week's set of goodies.

And as far as what we've got now and what we have coming up in this, there is plenty... drama, love and a first look at who we'll be getting to see when we get set to cover a regular Challenge season later this year. And we'll have the chance to gather around our crystal ball to take a Look Ahead at what we got in store in the spring and summer in the world of MTV Reality just to come...

If Thursday is your favorite night of television, in the past few years it is as if we have stepped back in time to more simpler but also livelier times than it is right now. The return after a six year's hiatus of the cast of Jersey Shore has brought buzz back to MTV, coming a decade after it all began for the most beloved family this channel has ever given us. The tenth overall season of the Jersey series - the fourth of the Family Vacation relaunch - is approaching its conclusion after it has spent most of this cuffing season in the bubble of a resort hotel in Lake Las Vegas, far from the lights and the glitz of the Strip.

This winter in Jersey'ville -- the first without Snooki as part of the group -- began with the girls divided after the drama of Angelina's big wedding night and the speech at her reception that changed everything. But the RSVP boys had an idea of bringing them together for another trip... there was also the night where the only dad of this bunch, Ronnie, was the bachelor in waiting in his dating show. But it was when the Hamster made her way to Vegas that things have now begun to get wild once again, along with Pauly's girlfriend Nikki and, as of this past week, JWOWW... and there may be more to come when the man who helps out with the last act of every Teen Mom season, Dr. Drew, will be called in to help.

The last time we saw Pauly & Nikki together in Southern Nevada, it was at the end of that epic summer of Season 2 of A Double Shot at Love, where they rekindled things after the stunning end to Season 1 a year earlier. Last week on this DCBLOG site, we featured the first cameo of any member of Team MTV on a TV show or music video of 2021 when fellow DSAL suitor and Are You The One? alum Maria Elizondo got cuddly with Miley's brother Trace Cyrus in the video for "Typical Suspect." And as a prelude to last Jerzday's drama, Maria's perfect match Vinny found himself on the stage of the cousin of the biggest new phenomenon in American television.

This Thursday night, the bubble of a hotel rented out by MTV's most beloved family ever, the cast of Jersey Shore, will have their fourth Vacation and tenth overall season be crashed by the arrival of someone who we last saw just a few short months ago in Las Vegas. The lost summer of 2020 saw us have to spend those warm days & nights be trapped at home, but it didn't deter us from having fun in watching those sights of things we desperately need come to us by way of the capital of adult freedom.

A Double Shot at Love debuted in spring 2019 in between the second and third seasons of the Jersey comeback tour as the attention turned to the two remaining bachelors in this dysfunctional family, DJ Pauly D and Vinny Guadagnino as they sought to find their perfect match. After the stunning twist of that first season in the battle to win the hearts of the bromance, DSAL returned for Season 2 last year as the attention turned to having the most epic summer ever in the heart of the Southern Nevada desert. And in a summer without Are You The One or Ex On The Beach, we were more than entertained by the Shore franchise's hybrid of love, fist pumps and hiliarity... and even help to manage a day/nightclub located right on the Strip.

But before Nikki Hall comes walking into the hotel to spend quality time with Pauly, we have a perfect segue way to her visit to Hotel Jersey: someone who she was closest to the past two years -- and one who was the only familiar face other than the bromance to walk into the DSAL mansion two years ago -- is now following in the footsteps of some of her fellow contemporaries in the land of MTV love in making some moves. And for here, it's a member of one of the most renowned musical families of recent memory, the first big moment of which came during that rad decade of the '90s.

We are now officially into the month of October, and we are now well underway with the new year in television -- that is, as far as those who are in the business of operating the networks see it. The cheapo, low-budget reality series that entertained us this summer have given way to the big major scripted shows with their new seasons, but there is still plenty for us to be engaged with on the reality side of things.

Fairly soon - or right about now, those shows that debuted and premiered during the summer will give way to new seasons and series on the unscripted front. And while we here at DCBLOG always keep our feet in the present covering the weekly Pulse and the stories behind the story of the shows that are on now including The Challenge, we're also keeping our eye on what's ahead. That's the subject of this latest installment of The Look Ahead - discussing spoiler-free (or at best, just small minor spoiler) rumors surrounding upcoming MTV series on occasion around our week-to-week content.
