This weekend marks the fifth anniversary of the premiere of Are You The One?, which premiered after bedtime on January 21, 2014... one of the many shows to receive the launchpad of airing after the Teen Mom franchise. AYTO marked MTV's first entry into modern romantic reality television, and has brought its own share of big moments, memorable couples and cast members, and through the science of matchmaking has brought together dozens of perfect matches.
This past year, those who believe in reality TV love were dealt three blows to this philosophy when AYTO fan favorite couples Zak & Hannah of Season 3, Gianna & Hayden of Season 5 and Alivia & Kareem of Season 6 all called it quits... but there's hope for the lone couple to remain together from the most recent season of Season 7 in Chicagoan Cali & Miami guy Tomas. And all couples from this series all strive to be the next Amber & Ethan Diamond - the only couple that's a perfect match, are happily married, and are proud parents to two kids.
One of the small handful of couples who are still together years after their MTV fame have ended is Stephen McHugh and Julia Rose from the Season 4 cast of 2016 which introduced everyone to Tori Deal (who herself has become one-half of an MTV power couple with Challenge champ Jordan Wiseley). Stephen & Julia met in Hawaii three years ago and hit it off almost from the beginning, even as the intentions castmate Giovanni had for her led to a blowup at one matchup night.
For a moment, Stephen & Julia weren't together: a revelation on a TRL After Show during Season 5 revealed that, while in Las Vegas, he had gotten close to Hannah Fugazzi from the only cast to not win the jackpot for getting all the perfect matches in order. But time did heal, and very quickly before everyone knew it, the Philadelphia native and the beauty from the South were back together... and they still are today. Perhaps, engagement rings and/or parenthood are next up for them.
Last month, Stephen and Julia posted on their YouTube channel videos of them having fun as a couple who, while they are not a perfect match as the matchmakers had it, but are one in any other way. That includes pulling their own blindfold trick before it became the world's latest viral sensation when she fed him food like he was a young baby. Also included, a prank she got to pull on him, some waxing of his body, and doing their own imitation of the game show Minute to Win It.
And lastly, the couple got to do a Q&A to answer fan questions on why they have lasted as long as most AYTO couples, among other things.
Last month, one of the two signs (along with U.S. Open tennis) that fall is in the air in the Big Apple took place when the world's top designers, models and fans descended upon New York City for the fall edition of New York Fashion Week.
Twice each year - the other taking place in February, thousands head to the world's greatest city for a week-long festival of fashion when international collections premiere to buyers, media and to the general public. NY Fashion Week is the only major event in this world of high-end clothing to take place outside of Europe (Paris, London & Milan host the others), and has been a NYC tradition since 1943 when it became the world's first organized fashion week. Today, the economic impact NYFW has on the Tri-State Area numbers at nearly $900 million, not surprising for an event that calls the vibrancy of America's largest city its home.
Just as their Season 3 predecessors descended upon NYC, Canada and Mexico for their postseason celebrations, in the wake of what happened to them back in August what could some of the Season 4 cast of Are You The One do to mark their win? Take over this grand New York event, of course. Not surprising given much of this year's singles to this group affectionately called "Beam Team" have ties to the Big Apple as natives of the Tri-State area.
The girl who's been girlfriend to Mike from both AYTO Season 3 and Real World Bad Blood much of this summer until late last week, Tori, joined with the man she put to sleep in that now famous "third eye" rap battle Giovanni, and musical collaborator Prosper "P.MUNA." Also joining them were her perfect match (and Mike's roommate) Morgan and the always interesting Asaf as they all walked the red carpet and strutted down the runway at the Style Fashion Show at the famed Hammerstein Ballroom and other events in the city. They weren't the only "ones" in town to witness the festivities, as the lone surviving couple from Season 4, Stephen & Julia, traveled east for Fashion Week.
Those five New Yorkers (four really - Gio is a Connecticut guy) all got to walk down the runway that night, which saw P.Muna show off his abs, Morgan don a bow tie, Tori and Gio cross one another and Asaf do dance moves. This wasn't the only fashion show the So You Think You Can Dance alum got to strut his stuff at: at another one in the city, he even got to channel his own dance moves and do a couple backflips. You can check out in the Instagram video embedded at the bottom along with the full fashion show of the cast strutting it on the runway for teen clothing line Bound by The Crown Couture, which also featured Isabella Barrett and Angel Alvarez from TLC's Toddlers and Tiaras.
Not surprisingly in an gathering where lots of celebrities have a front row seat to all the action on the runway, the cast all got the chance to meet some famous royalty. Gio and Asaf - or "Sweet N Sour" if you like to call them - got to mingle with the girl who was part of the romance in the Seaside Heights Jersey Shore house: Sammi Sweetheart knows a thing about being in an MTV romance for some time with Ronnie during the entire run of Jersey Shore and have been on-again, off-again both on the show and off-camera. Gio also got to sit next to Brittany Fogarty of VH1's Mob Wives, adding to becoming BFF's during VMA week with Farrah Abraham and Javi Marroquin of Teen Mom and Real World'er Jay G., as well as just meeting up with another original - Scali from AYTO Season 1.
Prosper also got to meet Olympic gold medalist Natasha Hastings, model Larsen Thompson and just this past week crossed paths with Wyclef Jean. And for Julia, she got to meet an artist who are first got to meet when she and all of us where at least a decade & a half younger. It feels like forever since we first got to meet Mario back in 2002 when he was just 16 years old when his cover of Biz Markie's "Just A Friend" garnered him a top-5 on the Billboard Hot 100, then "Let Me Love You" topped the singles charts two years later. After dropping off the mainstream radar after reaching the top in '04 as well as doing some acting work, Mario has a new album dropping this fall.
As noted in its season Wrap, the AYTO 4 cast won their $750,000 by going on that late run in the Truth Booth where they had the most success in, which was the difference in winning the cash. As you see in P.Muna and Gio's Instagrams and them being well fitted in their nice suits, next on their docket is music (I'm really digging Prosper's latest track "No Worries" and putting a book together called "The Game" where they plan to give advice on -- what else? -- advice on getting girls. Not a bad week in the Big Apple.
Today -- September 7, 2018 -- is a sad one for everyone in the music industry, and one that adds to those "days that the music died." For myself, I'll never forget finding out about Chester Bennington from Linkin Park dying suddenly last year, and for others they will never forget about Avicii, Aretha Franklin and so many others who have left us in the course of the past few years.
Earlier this afternoon in Studio City in the Los Angeles area, local authorities were called to the residence of rapper Mac Miller and pronounced him dead at the scene of a suspected drug overdose at the age of 26, just hours before shooting a music video. This comes after the release of his most recent album earlier this summer, Swimming, and months after his much-publicized breakup with Ariana Grande. Social media has been overcome with emotion and remembrance today, but unneeded negative reaction directed towards the pop star caused her to turn off comments to her Instagram channel just after the news was first reported by TMZ.
Because of today's events and with respect to him and his family, posts covering this week's MTV Reality episodes are withheld until tomorrow. But during Are You The One? Season 4 in summer 2016, DCBLOG offered a brief look at Prosper Mbongue-Muna, aka P.Muna, hanging out with Mac while performing for the very first time as the opening act to the then relatively-unknown Pittsburgh native.
In between Champs vs. Pros and Dirty 30, we spotlighted one of the most unique and versatile MTV people we've encountered in the last five years: Asaf Goren. He first made his TV debut in 2015 on FOX's So You Think You Can Dance, then the next year made his way to Are You The One? Season 4 with Tori and co. He even gave a smooch to a girl who's become a Challenge superstar in the making, and also dressed as a girl himself and planted a kiss to another guy in the Hawaiian house.
Along the way, Asaf also popped up on Second Chances, appeared in a Britney Spears video, walked the runway at New York Fashion Week, and went on a date with Farrah from Teen Mom... he even showed his affection for his #1 fan - his mom. We devoted an entire post to Asaf and to his many talents last July, but last week he returned to TV but in a place no one would expect him to see, but only added to the many facets of someone who, it's safe to say, is the jack of all trades.

With romance, dancing, modeling and music, and having been cast in three TV series, it seems Asaf has done just about everything you can possibly imagine. But that doesn't include being a chef… that all changed last week when Asaf popped up on yet another reality competition show when he became one of the contestants on the newest season of Food Network's Worst Cooks in America.
The show brings together novices who might not know a thing about making quality food and often excel more at microwaving food than putting on a apron, and turning them into skilled cooks with the help of renowned chefs Anne Burrell and Tyler Florence. Each season, they lead two teams of recruits in a culinary boot camp with improving their skills being at the forefront. By the time the season ends, the one who's victorious wins $25,000 and bragging rights to their mentor.
Asaf is no doubt the most well-known member of a group chosen to try their luck at becoming masters of the kitchen. His opposition ranges from a local sportscaster from Cleveland and a pair of twins, to grandparents and a drag performer all intent on turning from the worst cook to the best cook of this bunch, which airs Sundays on Food Network. Asaf states, "I can dance, I have a great personality. I know how to make the party start. The only thing I definitely cannot do is cook." And one interested viewer to his debut was Season 4 castmate Cam who tweeted at @CamBruckman, "Wait @asafgoren1 is now on “Worst Cooks In America” ...atta boy! 😂"
And from we last saw him go on that date with Farrah after his time in Australia ended right up to now as he goes onto his fourth(!) reality series, Asaf has also pushed his XTRDNRY brand on social media. Coinciding with the premiere of Worst Cooks, embedded below is his latest music video, "Come Again," along with another video "Back N Forth"... his YouTube channel also has a track dedicated to his mom who was featured in our bit on Asaf last year.
Following is an excerpt from DCBLOG's Pulse of AYTO Season 6 - Episode 9 from earlier tonight, reposted in the interest of our readers and featuring our subject who was briefly featured on Part 1 of the Reunion of The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30, which was covered here earlier this weekend.
It's safe to say that the AYTO Season 4 cast is the most musically talented MTV cast that we've had in recent memory. There was not one but five people of that cast who have or do music: the one we focused on here last year, Francesca recently released a new EP, while Tori, Gio and Asaf have done some work too. And we can't forget that Kaylen appeared in a music video featuring 2000's star Sammie. And then, there's the one of our focus here, who we saw hanging out in the VIP section of this week's first half of The Challenge XXX reunion as Tori faced the music in her latest relationship gone bad in Derrick H. from Season 5.
The very first person we featured from that Beam Team on here back in May 2016 was Prosper/"P.Muna" when he got to hang out with Rob Kardashian after the socialite announced he was gonna become a married dad with Blac Chyna and before that came crashing down with him literally breaking the Internet earlier this summer. For Prosper, him hanging out with a member of the first family of reality TV was just the start of big things for him.
He came onto the season as a former college football player having played in his hometown of Albany, NY, but afterwards turned his attention to music. There, he found that he was brainwashed by the lavish hip-hop lifestyle and its emphasis on girls and money. On the season itself, he and Tori were put into the Truth Booth, emerged a no-match in that first week, and while everyone else was being involved in the drama he was in the background for most of the season... eventually going into the Truth Booth and being a late match en route to $750K.
With being a personal trainer on the side and perhaps eager to follow Tori into Challenge world, music is where Prosper's true passion lies, in his moniker P.MUNA. Back early on, he was one of the first to get to know a Pittsburgh rapper named Mac Miller, who has gone on to big things since they met up backstage at an event in the New York State capital in 2011. Recently, he talked to Hype Magazine about his plans for 2018, with him having his eyes on making it big: "I have dreams that I'm destined to achieve so I'm working as hard as possible to make it happen. I want to be known as the best at what I do. I make music. I want to make music that touches people... I want to make relatable music for people in the struggle."
The title of P.MUNA's latest album takes into account the year he was born and, as what we have seen in an MTV show that just wrapped up this past week, of the dope decade of the 90's. Prosper says of his new album, "1991 is like my coming out party. It’s a feeling of growing up in the 90s before social media. I came of age still passing notes but was young enough to adapt to technology when it came. It was a more genuine time because we were kids just living."

And earlier this summer, P.MUNA dropped the track "Vice City," giving ode to the vibrant lifestyle of Miami and the famous 1980's show set during South Florida's rise to prominence from a retirement and tourism haven into the great city and vibe it has today... girls and drugs included. Fellow Season 4 castmate Giovanni also appears on the joint, which he adds via Vents Magazine, "Miami is a very sexy town, and you can lose your way if u don’t know what you want."
Well, here we are at the end of a gripping 12 months following the thing this site covers best: the MTV Trifecta. This is the season finale of DC SocialPulse on this VMA Sunday, and ahead: from betrayals to blackouts - analysis and a full recap of the summer in the two competition shows of this triple crown. And this includes the last act of a season that featured plenty of drama in paradise.
On Week 8 of the show over three weeks ago, the exes came to town to help dish some juicy info about the singles. Giovanni put everyone on edge when he chose Stephen's girl Julia as a plan to turn the game upside down, but were put into the truth booth which proved costly to the house as they seem to have wasted a truth booth when they most needed it. And to make matters worse, the group got gut checked late when they suffered a blackout in their 8th matchup to lose $250,000.
The next week: a double shot to wrap up the season. First, as the house tries to recover from the blackout they try whatever they can to strategize a win. But it's when a rap battle takes place that old conflicts decide to reemerge and boils over to divide the house when a fight takes place which leads to shock and to tears. And then in hour two, with the house regaining the momentum they lost after the good start, they face the reality of going home either with money or not, and Asaf finds himself at the heart of the matter in deciding whether to follow his heart or going with the rest of the house.
As we speak to you days after the biggest day of the MTV year, this post is coming to you a bit later than planned due to both the Rio Olympics and giving you worldwide fans the chance to watch this last act and then head over here for the reaction. Last week, the guys' parents appeared via Skype to reveal the truth about their sons to the house, which even saw John tear up at seeing his mom. Giovanni found himself at the crossfire as Stephen begins to become skeptical at the Wolf trying to get in touch with his crush Julia, while Francesca became the latest one to get close to him. And though the house's luck seemed to have stalled a bit, there was good news in Sam & Alyssa becoming match #2.
This week, a favorite night of the entire AYTO experience comes ashore in Hawaii as the group gets to enjoy a luau and an Adam and Eve party. This leads to jealousy and hook-ups aplenty as the couples mix it up and look to reverse what's now a game that's slipping away from them. A love hexagon forms in the house as John, Stephen, Gio and (making his first appearance this season) Tyler do what they can to make sense of the hearts which seems to have become confused. And the tension between two of them is so much it leads to punches being thrown.

As you enjoy this last Saturday of July, it's time for the 'Pulse of the week in the MTV Trifecta. Coming up, the last four teams arrive in Argentina with eyes set on winning Rivals III with no idea of what's to come, among other things. But we begin our look at this week in Hawaii, where the game has now gotten a bit serious on Are You The One?.
Last week, we saw the sad end to Giovanni and Kaylen as a truth booth visit and his ways with girls saw them end things. Elsewhere, a night of partying in the house saw Cam enjoy a bit more than he bargained for and saw him wake up with Victoria with no idea of what happened. And the group remained stuck in neutral as they didn't make much progress as they fell behind in the count for the first time.
This week, the attention turns to the parents as the guys' moms reveal some rather embarrassing information about their sons which also see them reveal their softer sides. Gio once again finds himself at the heart of the drama as one of the guys starts to become paranoid over his interest in his girl, while another of the girls heads into the Wolf's Den. And will there finally be luck in the game itself? Two people who live not far from one another may give them some luck.

It's the weekend, which means one thing around here: DCBLOG bringing you this week in the MTV Trifecta. Coming up: a true Battle of the Bloodlines with spots in Argentina at stake for the last five Rivals III teams, and a Louisiana man takes a bite out of the Big Apple. First, the game has finally gotten serious for our friends in Hawaii as Are You The One? Season 4 is halfway through.
Last week, ladies man Asaf again found himself at the heart of drama, but now creating a love triangle when he and Tori clicked once again, while also going into the Boom Boom Room with his other love, Francesca...the former went into the Truth Booth and came away empty. Meanwhile, the house found itself on edge when the seemingly perfect relationship of a fan favorite pair began to fall apart, just weeks after mentioning the word "marriage" for the first time at a matchup.
This week, the love story of that pair, Giovanni and Kaylen, finally reaches its climax, and puts the house on alert as the Wolf begins to pursue John's former girl in the house, Julia, and others as well. If we thought that all-night challenge in Mexico was something, it's different compares to what one pair in the house goes through when a night of partying becomes something they don't remember at all. The weekend has arrived, which means it's time for DCBLOG's look at the week that was in the MTV Trifecta. Ahead: a Rivals III jungle shocker as the teams dwindle to five in Mexico, and one of this week's tragedies hits close to home for one competitor. But first, we begin with the return of Are You The One? following the week's break, taking last week off for the 4th of July festivities.
Last time in Hawaii, Stephen made a play for Julia and led John to go after him as a triangle became a square, while ladies man Asaf became the top attraction to Tori and Camille. But more impressively, their wave of good luck continued in grabbing both AYTO's quickest-ever truth booth match and an additional matchup beam towards potentially closing matters fairly early just as it was first time out.
This week as the fight for love and money resumes, the affection between the Israeli dancer and the New York hip-hop artist goes to another level, all the while also pulling off a shocker of all things in the Boom Boom Room. The house finds itself in turmoil when the seemingly perfect relationship of one of the pairs who were meant to be for each other begins to fall apart. And the week's challenge sees personal hygiene take center court.

As all of you in North America celebrate this extended holiday weekend, welcome back to DCBLOG's ongoing coverage of the MTV Trifecta and look back at this past week. Season 4 and things have been both dramatic and great as far as the gameplay goes.

The first official weekend of summer '16 is in full swing, and welcome again to DCBLOG's coverage of the MTV Trifecta as we cover the week that was. In last week's premiere, host Ryan Devlin gave our new set of 20 singles a twist right out of the gate as they were tested with finding love at first sight and immediately sent three couples on a date without a challenge. After they were chosen and everyone had gotten to know each other, it was musicians Tori and Prosper that were sent to the truth booth with an additional $250,000 at stake, but didn't turn out a match. Meanwhile, a love triangle formed in the house and caused an embarrassing first Matchup at first, but the house can thank their lucky stars that they got three beams.
This week, the attention turns to that love triangle that formed last week, as when the relationship between John and one of the girls decides to take a turn, and he blows up. Meanwhile, the status of another of the house's couples finds itself in question when a trip to the Boom Boom Room doesn't go as planned. And Kaylen decides to drop a bomb on the house about her relationship with Giovanni that leaves the group with their jaws dropped.

Welcome to the weekend, which means welcome to DCBLOG and to our coverage of Season 4 of Are You The One?. This week marks the beginning to a new season for the newcomer of the MTV Trifecta as we once again set off on our quest to see love, money and drama all come together in a way only MTV does best.
If you were with us for our season preview on Memorial Day weekend, we introduced you to our new group of 20 singles who have come to Hawaii to find their love of their dreams and fly out of the islands with $1 million in their possession. From two alums of FOX reality shows and a 6'8" cowboy from Colorado to two hip-hop artists, they're the latest to join AYTO with the hopes of following their predecessors to the winners' circle and to find their own perfect match.
For the premiere, they're given another game-changing twist to add to the blackout penalty of a $250,000 loss introduced last year as they are tested the instincts of Love at First Sight right out of the gate, with an additional $250,000 on the line should the couple they choose be a perfect match. Plus, there's all the usual pomp and circumstance that comes with our new cast of girls and guys single and ready to mingle. And something we've had in the first seasons of this show, a love triangle, leads to a first Matchup Ceremony that brings about both some embarrassing choices and something we've not had in a premiere.

As we kick off this Memorial Day Weekend and the unofficial start of summer, welcome once again to the ongoing saga of drama, unpredictability and craziness that is the MTV Trifecta, covered by the fan blog that covers it best - DCBLOG. We're four episodes into the newest season of The Challenge: Rivals III which has had plenty of drama so far down in Mexico, and Real World: Go Big or Go Home has just wrapped in Las Vegas last night in chaotic fashion, and of course we'll recap them this weekend. But as one show steps aside, another is ready to take the spotlight in the newcomer of the three shows that this site surrounds like no other.
It's Season 4 of Are You The One?, and it becomes, in Challenge lingo, a veteran as it enters its senior stage with some shoes to fill: the first season and the original cast is the most recent example of a perfect cast and a great season. Season 2 had the 11th girl (and have already made lots of news south of the border), Season 3 was the most controversial, and they all have something in common: great cast members, big time drama and lots of romance. And oh, all of them had the same end result: 10 for 10 and 5-figure pay days for each of the castmates.
As we indulge in this long 3-day weekend, we're more than two weeks away from premiere night of Monday, June 13th, and once again DCBLOG will follow the ride from this preseason preview to the final act at summer's end.
