We hope you're enjoying this Thursday - the last day of April as we are about to head into the month of May. And we hope you are safe and sound and healthy, and wish that this coming month will bring you some good news, wherever you are. And we at DCBLOG want to take a break from the endless weekend of sort to take a look at what we have coming up here this week and the month to come...
We have developed a routine on here where our coverage of the weekly episodes of The Challenge will typically begin on Saturday or sometimes afterward when the SocialPulse diary covering all the action, reaction and interaction from the Twitter sphere on the episodes will be posted for everyone to see. However, that will not be the case this week as last night's episode of Total Madness ended with three dreaded words that we won't even want to utter out on here.
We have a policy around here that, if any episode of shows that we cover end in cliffhangers, then that week's episode coverage will be pushed back to the following week instead to maintain a sense of continuity and with our utmost respect to those who prefer to binge-watch rather than watch live. And to this end, we've decided that it's best to have the Pulse for this week wait things out until next week so we can see that elimination and what goes down on the following week. It's best for us here to cover what goes down this week and next week in the same wave of blog posts in order to make things fair for everyone.
Here's what we got planned: the Episode 5 edition of the Total Madness SocialPulse will instead be posted as a Backtracked post - that is, it being posted a week behind schedule of it airing on TV. That will be presented to you a week from tomorrow, next Friday night to lead off next week's blog coverage before we offer the Episode 6 edition of the 'Pulse the day after in its traditional spot on Saturday. And our WRAP which is our original portion of the episode coverage, will combine the big moments of Episode 5 with what goes down in Episode 6, and that will come afterwards. We'll be looking forward to covering it then.
This week, our attention will turn to what we here at DCBLOG do best: go beyond what you see on the shows themselves. If you're new to our site, not only do we cover the episodes in both the usual manner of recapping them & covering it from the social media view, but also we cover MTV Reality in a somewhat different manner than what you're used to. We focus our eyes on the shows we cover and its people through the power of storytelling, and to tell stories that are fascinating, entertaining and sometimes emotional, that we feel it has given us a unique position in the universe thanks to the franchise we call ExtraTime.
If you can think of things like the Challenge Mania Podcast as the SportsCenter of Challenge content, then you might think of us at DCBLOG here as sort of like 60 Minutes. In this case though, I am this site's only correspondent instead of spreading things out like they do with rotating the stories each week among those like Mike Wallace, Morley Safer and those they have worked with every Sunday night. And these stories range from covering the memorable moments of some thirty years worth of entertainment, to the experiences of the hundreds of those who've entertained us, and the many times these people get to meet fascinating people from around the pop culture realm.
It's been a fixture of our MTV coverage from the beginning, and on February and March leading into Total Madness we did a number of these stories which has gotten both acclaim from the subjects who we got to feature there and gaining us much traction online. As noted in our preview, all but five of this season's competitors have been featured in the ExtraTime series, and through this prism we have offered a different vantage point on the people you're watching... and we've already featured 23 of the 28 competitors of this season among the hundreds of stories we've done around our episode content.
This weekend in lieu of our Episode 5 coverage, we will have the chance to expand our horizons and present three stories (and maybe more) for your enjoyment on this ExtraTime Weekend Special.
● As noted in our Episode 4 Wrap yesterday, there has been a slew of reunions taking place on what's now become the hottest social app there is in Zoom. And after get-togethers among casts of Jackass and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air this week, last week there was an online reunion among those who lived it up in Beantown over two decades ago... and we'll be joining the cast of The Real World Boston for their reunion on Saturday, along with a look back at Season 6 of their show.
● Also yesterday, the cast of Season 7 of Are You The One? acknowledged on their Instagram stories the second anniversary of them getting together to film their season. Members of that cast were among those who took part in a three-season trilogy that brought together former castmates of their show and Ex On The Beach for a unique social experiment... we'll be taking a look at the YouTube series Staying Relevant tomorrow night in time for your weekend home parties.
● And without spoiling things for this who haven't seen it yet, there is a development for one of this season's competitors, who going into Total Madness was part of a relationship that's allowed them to get to know a slew of big names. They are one of the subjects that, last year, got to step inside MTV's resident tattoo parlor, one for which another competitor hosted its original version in the U.K. We'll be taking a look at Team MTV taking over How Far is Tattoo Far? coming up on Sunday.
And there are a lot of other stories planned for this spring cycle that we hope will bring you much enjoyment on here along with our episode coverage as well, which again resumes next week for Mother's Day weekend. As always, bookmark this site, subscribe to the notifications on my social channels & the email list, and of course like, comment and share, and tell a friend so they can also become fans of our insightful content. We'll see you tomorrow night.
