DC ExtraTime: The Kaplans Go Flipping with the Kardashians and Go Ketchup Crazy

Last week on Ex On The Beach, something revealing took place when the house found out some valuable tea involving one of the singles. There, one-half of The Kaplan Twins was caught having a boyfriend back home - and spies on the forums & Reddit found out about this particular fact before we saw it last week, all thanks to an Instagram photo that of Allie Kaplan and her man being on a trip to nearby Catalina Island off the Southern California coast before she moved up to Malibu.

It was when the exes found about this news that, during the annual week where they had power in sending home whichever single they wanted for the week's Cut Ceremony, they chose Allie to go to her room and pack. That result also had Twitter fuming in the fans wanting to have Cameron Armstrong get sent home for his actions against exes Alexis and Ariana, though the difference in him staying and Allie going was just one vote.

That unfavorable outcome in the Cut twist will have Allie's twin sister Lexi spend the rest of her time by the beach alone until season's end. But not everything in the land of the Kaplans was all bad this past week, as they got to sit front row at New York Fashion Week, and making a cameo on the latest spinoff show of reality TV's royal family... and it also links to both the ongoing public fascination with the Kardashians and a story brewing in the past week of the feud between pop star brothers whose ex appears on that latest spinoff.

Bunim-Murray Productions is not only the producers of The Challenge and The Real World, but as pioneers of reality TV are also responsible for some other notable programming. Along with Road Rules which debuted 25 years ago next year, BMP created the first reality sitcom in The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, the first iteration of Making The Band with boy band O-Town, shows featuring The Miz and WWE wrestlers, and documenting people living with disabilities.
The most notable non-MTV related franchise produced by BMP is, no doubt, Keeping Up with The Kardashians and its related spinoff series on E!. It has documented everyone in a family grown out of a many years' marriage of Kris Kardashian and Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner, and the stars are the kids who grew up in their world and who are bonafide megastars: Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kylie, Kendall and Rob... and their assorted significant others that include Kanye West, Kris Humphries, Lamar Odom, French Montana, Tristan Thompson, Adrienne Bailon and Blac Chyna... as well as son Brody Jenner - the one link to The Hills.
Another person who's been part of this Kardashian community is Scott Disick, who met Kourtney long ago at a house party down in Mexico thrown by the man who made Girls Gone Wild a 2000's sensation, Joe Francis. Their on-again, off-again relationship has been a recurring item on KUWTK, which has documented his alcohol abuse and ways as a party boy, as well as all her pregnancies & births to sons Mason & Reign and daughter Penelope. And even after they broke up a few years ago, Scott & Kourtney still have to do what Cory & Cheyenne and Tony & Madisson in MTV world have to go through regularly in being able to properly co-parent their three kids, which was a focus of this week's episode as he continues to be as caring a dad as he can. And all of this takes place after ' boyfriend Corey Gamble getting into a fight with Scott on that episode and bringing up the art of spanking, along with the nanny overlooking the kids quitting on Kourtney.

Flip It Like Disick (E!)
This summer, Scott has added his name to those who have done both a spinoff series related to the Kardashians franchise and the many on TV that deal with flipping houses when he began hosting the series Flip It Like Disick. For those not familiar with the first two words in the title, house flipping is when a real estate investor buys a house and then resells them for a profit, whose process can take from a quick two-month turnaround to a year when all the luxury renovation work is all finished. And Scott is not alone: Adam Levine, Sharon Osbourne, Ellen Degeneres and Vanilla Ice have also done some house flipping on the side of their careers.
Along with having done plenty of TV work including some acting gigs on the side, Flip It lets viewers see a new side to Scott in him being an avid investor in flipping homes that rake in millions with the help of friend & business partner Benny Luciano, contractor Miki Moor and his team. And since this show takes place in Hollywood, that means the man who calls himself "The Lord" is in elite company having to deal with celebrity friends and their families with building, renovating and redesigning home projects - think, the show Flip or Flop with a famous person twist and with a bit of hilarity too.
Also joining them for Flip It is someone who has reemerged into the spotlight in a whole new world than it was eighteen years ago. It was in 2001 that the world met Willa Ford, who found herself part of a golden class of female pop divas: Britney, Christina, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson and Destiny's Child. She also, unfortunately, had to deal with plenty of hate in having dated Nick Carter of the Backstreets during the height of the boy band's first wave of popularity... good thing social media did not exist back then. And as Flip It airs, it was last week that the ex had a restraining order placed on his brother Aaron Carter in light of his recent troubling behavior.
After her pop star status faded (which she attributes partly to when 9/11 took everyone's attention off of entertainment 5 days after the 2001 VMA's), Willa turned to acting in a bit role in 2009's Friday the 13th film, and taking part in season 3 of Dancing With The Stars. But she had something else in mind in case her showbiz career didn't take off: she's loved interior design for a long time, and in 2013 she launched her own LA-based design firm to help in full-on renovations, interior and exterior design and e-design. Her being a fellow, driven entrepreneur made Willa a perfect choice for Scott to join him on this new venture.

Among the many things on the docket for Scott, Willa and the Flip It Like Disick team is a playhouse for the kids at the home of three-times' baby mama Kourtney, including a room for Penelope that they have to design to make sure that she enjoys at his place as it is at her mommy's. For instance, the middle child's wish list includes her walls painted pink, a new chair (something I can attest to having went online to buy my nephew that for his 10th birthday last month) and a painting of herself. The total budget for the project costs $20,000 for someone who Scott calls, "the love of my life," and it was the subject of the show's sixth episode that aired on September 15th last weekend.
When he looked around town to see who can make a painting of Penelope Kardashian-Disick, Scott found of no one better than Allie & Lexi Kaplan, and who jumped at the opportunity to help him make her daughter's wish come true when he walked into their studio. Of course, there was a catch: given the twins' resume of making provocative paintings including that of Kim, the Kaplans had to tone their act down to a family-friendly level... but given that admire him for being a great person and dad (as they told Life & Style Magazine) this task was easier for them to take on given that they worked with the Kardashians before when they modeled for Khloe's Good American pants line.

Lexi told L&S, "He gave us a lot of creative freedom. He sent us the photo of Penelope — I guess Penelope chose the photo. He didn't really tell us much of how he wanted [it], he just trusted our vision and our aesthetic." And Allie added, "It's always a little nerve-wracking when you do portraits of people because you want to make sure it's perfect. You want it to represent who you are painting, you want it to look amazing, you want it to look like them. So yeah, we were very excited to see that he loved it. I think the painting fit in perfectly in the room."
When they finished their latest masterpiece - depicted below, the family gave them their seal of approval and the twins were welcome to make art for the sons. All of this came despite Penelope thinking to herself that she looked almost like an elf... the twins could only chuckle at her review. Explained Lexi, "She meant it in the sense that she looked a little cartoonish, which is OK because it's a painting. It's a painting, but she looked like she loved it, so it's OK! She is just a sweet little girl. She is a little sassy and a little shy in the beginning."

Along with this, the Kaplan Twins also let their guard down a bit in awaiting to see judgement day go down in the Ex On The Beach house and their day with Scott. Everyone who watches The Challenge probably knows about one of those odd moments that took place years ago when the late Ryan Knight decided to go after ex Jemmye Carroll with the one thing in the fridge she fears the most: ketchup. That phobia of everyone's famous condiment is known as "Mortuusequusphobia," which was a key LOL moment on Rivals II six years ago.
While they are Instagram stars, the Kaplans have their own fledgling YouTube channel, and last week they brought subscribers along for one of their few times' weekly Target runs. This time, they decided to mark the end of the summer by going for a food fight, and their original plans had jello on offer for throw around. But at last minute, Allie & Lexi decided to swap out the Jello for canned tomatoes... watch what happens below.
