Tonight, reality TV fans will have be in for an early Christmas: in a few hours from now, we will crown a twenty-third Big Brother winner who will also double as the U.S. show's very first African-American champion after a dream summer for the alliance known as The Cookout. That comes a week after things returned to normal at midweek with the much-celebrated return of Survivor... and there's also The Challenge and The Masked Singer too. But as we prepare for a busy Wednesday night ahead, we have some much-needed fun to this middle part of the week coming from Floribama Shore.
After the unexpected ending to their trip to Western America earlier this year, the Bam have made their return... this time, Aimee, Candace, Codi, Gus, Kirk, Jeremiah and Nilsa returned to somewhat familiar settings: the present situation prevents them from returning to Florida, but being in Athens, Georgia near where most of them call home makes up for being away from the beach. And it was as if things picked up right where they left off from Arizona: plenty of fun ensuing with most of the group... it's only with the Perry playboy's arrival on a motorcycle that rattled some nerves considering what went down in Montana... not to mention the impending arrival of our first Floribama baby.
But then again, when you have many pets rolling around the house -- a pig, goats and a dog to be exact, then this will be quite the animal house. And as we return to Athens, the roommates will get used to something the other places t(hey've lived lacked: a big backyard and plenty in their surroundings with a lake, a pool and plenty of fun. We'll also get deep into what has happened to one of them in regards to a perfect relationship on the outside, but one that is more complicated on the inside. And what is enjoying a day in the South without going for a ride in a high-speed race in a cart --- and where else can you have the luxury of having some homemade brownies?

EXES ON THE BEACH GET TOGETHER,
AND A SEASON 5 LOOK AHEAD
In our eight years going Inside MTV Reality on DCBLOG, we've evolved tremendously from covering just The Challenge and The Real World, to expanding to over 50 seasons of this world including getting our foot in the door of the Shore franchise in Floribama and last year's Double Shot at Love (sadly, we won't be covering season 3 due to our busy fall slate on here). We've also been covering MTV's twisted take on romantic reality programming in the entire runs of both Are You The One? and Ex On The Beach, but the ongoing pandemic has kept us from enjoying those two shows since early last year.
The fourth & most recent season of Ex On The Beach USA traded the sandy beaches and warm climate for something never before seen on any of the nearly twenty iterations of this global franchise: a winter-themed season. As it would eventually be the case on The Challenge, Peak of Love once again saw different reality fandoms come together, as well as the first international representatives from the franchise's originators of the United Kingdom -- Georgia Steel and Callum Izzard got engaged in the finale but later split. We also saw an alum of Georgia's Love Island UK show in Sam Bird, who later got engaged to Challenger Kailah Casillas... as well as Corey Lay's good friend Adore Delano.
Peak of Love got to bring Challengers Jemmye Carroll, Laurel Stucky and Nicole Zanatta under one roof with Rivals 2 finalist & fellow Real World alum Marlon Williams... but they weren't alone when it comes to faces familiar to MTV fans and those who've done shows for its sister networks in a ViacomCBS company that officially merged the night of its December 2019 debut. Tyranny Todd was on the now-infamous Season 5 of Are You The One? that's also produced several EOTB alumni, while Allie DiMeco was part of the cast of Nickelodeon's The Naked Brothers Band before returning to the public limelight on USA Network's reboot of reality dating pioneer Temptation Island.
Just over a week ago, Marlon, Tyranny, Allie and Nicole Z.'s ex Ashley Ceaser (who was also an ex to Arielle on Real World Ex-Plosion) got together for the following TikTok video as they partook in one of the latest challenges to go viral of them dressing up in costumes, an early dress rehearsal of what we will all be doing in less than a month from now on Halloween weekend...

Over the summer, Season 5 of Ex U.S. was filmed in the Canary Islands just off the coast of Portugal, the first time a summer season has taken place outside of the U.S. A difference between Season 5 and the four previous ones that came before it is that the format will change to match the British version: the number of singles that will move in when it begins will be pared down from ten in past seasons to just eight, and there will be no host this time as with his duties being a host on FOX Soul Romeo Miller won't return to patrol the exes' arrivals and the Cut or Crush eliminations -- for which with the ladder there won't be as much of those on Season 5 as it has been the case prior.
Just as it has been throughout its American version, Season 5 of Ex U.S. will once again boast an all-star cast that will be familiar not just to those watching MTV and American reality television, but just as it was in New Zealand there will also be those from outside America who will make their U.S. TV debuts on this global franchise.
First, the familiar faces: Kailah's fellow castmate on her third MTV series, Mike from Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club, will reemerge from last seeing him get the boot for bad behavior from Greece to return to familiar settings on the sand. One who we saw earlier this year during the Double Agents finale, Kyra from Love Island, will go from finding love on MTV YouTube's Match Me If You Can to the actual MTV channel itself. And another MTV love alum, Derynn from the first class of Jersey Shore's entry to reality dating, Double Shot at Love with Pauly & Vinny, is on the cast -- and you can guess who her ex is.
But with respect to all three of them and Derynn's ex Pretty Ricky -- and with this post going out before the Season 23 finale, the one who boasts the status of headliner of the Ex U.S. 5 cast is the one who you, the public, named America's favorite houseguest on Big Brother All-Stars last year. Da'Vonne became a favorite to both BB fans and Challenge Nation during her three stays in the summer house and her two times on the ladder... and considering how much we love her, perhaps Ex On The Beach isn't ready for Mama Day to make her entry. She will be joined by other fellow CBS alumni including the fifth member of the BB20 house to come to MTV... so will Kyra's fellow Love Islanders after Jeremiah and Lauren came onto Spies, Lies & Allies.
As for the newbies, after we saw Harry with Kyra on Match Me and Kelz for a brief time on The Challenge, three of those who were on Too Hot to Handle will make their way to a reality dating show that actually has commercials. Before our Big Brother down here, those anxious for summer get a head-start by trying whatever they can to access the Canadian version, and those who watched Season 8 up north last year saw reality setting in when their stay in Toronto had to end early at the outset of the pandemic. Two of those who lived through that jarring moment will be on this EOTB cast.
But the most intriguing entry in the rumored cast list below is someone who doesn't come from reality TV: global Christian megachurch Hillsong has been in the firing line of late for actions similar to what befell many televangelists in the '80s and '90s, including an investigation that recently aired on the Australian 60 Minutes. Hillsong's New York chapter has also been stung by accusations centering around former pastor Carl Lentz, who was let go last year for his unethical actions including sexual abuse of a former employee, and for cheating on his wife with local jewelry designer Ranin Karim.
We'll sure have our hands full in going in-depth on that startling story regarding Ranin & Carl's relationship when we arrive back in Spain, and we'll no doubt have plenty of fun watching everything that goes down when they will ask themselves "Whose Ex is Next?" ... and that should also include yours & ours favorite narrator Welborn Ferrene.
