DC ExtraTime: Jersey Shore Meets RW Skeletons

Following is an excerpt from a Pulse diary during Are You The One? Season 2 and before Real World Skeletons in fall 2014, reposted here after this past weekend's events featuring a subject of this post when she got married to her boyfriend and now husband.

Now, we haven't talked much here on DCBLOG about the most-famous MTV show of recent times, the pop culture phenomenon known as Jersey Shore. Believe it or not, next month will be the 5th anniversary of the show that helped revitalize MTV and, as I always like to say, oh how can say time can fly by so fast when you're having fun. Why did I bring up this show? Well, two reasons...

   While the new season of Snooki & J-Woww is underway as the duo has just celebrated a new baby last night, Mike the Situation having tax elation charges tossed out after season 1 of The Sorrentinos on TV Guide Network, Sammi & Ronnie breaking up again earlier this year, Pauly D continuing to do his DJ thing in Vegas and Vinny celebrating a birthday last week with a new book, you might ask "What about Angelina and Deena?" As you know, Angelina was the original 8th roommate in the Shore House but didn't spend much time there in Jersey, but ultimately made her mark when the group descended upon Miami for season 2. And when she left permanently after that after causing lots of drama with the OG's, Snooki brought Ms. Blast in a Glass along for season 3 and brought a spirit of fun to the cast that wasn't the case for what Danny, the Shore Store owner calls "Jolie."

   While I'm not into VH1 that much, Angelina and Deena have kept themselves in the Viacom family by doing seasons of Couples Therapy, where we also saw the end of the 2nd stint of Heather & Dustin from Real World Vegas XXV. Last Tuesday before the season 5 finale, they, Deena's boyfriend Chris, Angelina's guy and Treach of Naughty by Nature fame got together with the show's host Dr. Jenn Berman to do a segment for Sirius XM Radio. Later that night, they headed to an after party and met up with Big Brother alums Gina Marie from season 15 and Caleb from last season, along with other reality personalities.

One who was part of the festivities was the brother of roommate Bruno from the upcoming season of Real World Skeletons, Briah. Four weeks from now will be the season premiere of the show's 30th season taking place in Chicago, and Briah is Bruno's estranged twin brother. The Providence, RI natives have not talked to each other in three years since a huge falling out and a trivial fight where Briah told Bruno that he wished he had been killed in a car accident that nearly cost him his life. As his "skeleton," Briah entering the house will force him and Bruno to meet the problems right there head on, which along with the stories of the other roommates, should make for compelling television.

   Just as was the case when we talked about Heather & Dustin's roommates Adam & Nany burying the hatchet when Mike Mike tied the knot, I'm not that all surprised that now Angelina and Deena are not only civil but also feeling like sisters. Obviously, Jersey Shore was a phenomenon that emerged from a rough beginning where it got a ton of hate before the show even started and then early on (similar to what we've seen with Buckwild and Slednecks). But them and the cast would ultimately click with everyone and they would become one of MTV's most beloved casts. And as the show marks its 5th anniversary next month, there's a lot to be proud of and lots to look back on. And we all might imagine if Angelina decided to return during that last season in Seaside Heights and see the dynamic she has and also of making peace with everyone.

By the way, a slice of Staten Island, and of course that thick accent, will also be part of the upcoming Real World as well as Nicole, a EMT and a single lesbian, will join Bruno, Jason, Madison, Sylvia, Tony and Violetta in the Windy City, following in the footsteps of Marie of RW St. Thomas and Angelina and Vinny onto the MTV airwaves, not to mention Gina from Big Brother. We'll preview RW Skeletons and provide plenty of perspective and reflection during the lead-up to its December 16th premiere right here on the 'Blog.

Welcome again to DC SocialPulse as we bring you the Action, Reaction and Interaction of the 7th edition of Double Shot Tuesday here on this Oscar Sunday. This past Tuesday saw us meet family members of three Real World'ers, Bruno get mad, Challengers face trivia and a double elimination.

   Last week on EP9 of Real World Skeletons, Nicole got a warm welcome from her "skeletons", her sisters from back home in Staten Island, while Bruno's temper over food of all things becomes a big issue. This week, he is the one who faces the music as his skeleton, an estranged brother he hadn't spoken since a huge blowup three years earlier, arrives in Chicago. This isn't the only family affair in the house as both Tony's brother from Baton Rouge and Violetta's friends from Florida also visit the house, which leads to fights with the guys with the former and a birthday boat party for the ladder.

   Episode 6 of Exes 2 last Tuesday saw the toughest mission so far as the competitors had to endure, which led to huge tempers getting the most of many of the competitors. We also had a close elimination that included Dome destroyers vs. a couple in peril that ended with a cliffhanger, and that's where Episode 7 picks up. We then have the kind of challenge TJ Lavin always relishes: a trivia contest that tests everyone's brains. What's shocking about this week is who wins, and it's their decision of who they put into the Dome that's even more shocking, making perhaps some enemies.

   Following all the tweets during and surrounding the episodes, this MEGA edition will have a special expanded Triple Crush edition of theWRAP that will cover not just this week's dramatic Real World, but also because of the "to be continued" from EP6 - both last week's & this week's Exes 2 episodes. Then on DC ExtraTime, we'll have a new DC LIST with some close Challenge elimination battles, along with one alum's successful mission.
