On this last day of July, welcome back to DCBLOG as we WRAP last week on The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30 and week 2 as you prepare for episode 3 coming up tomorrow. This past week saw Cory expose his hand too early to the veterans after the week's second challenge, which saw tomatoes dominate as did the big name vets too. But this was all foreshadowed by what happened in the Redemption House, which before the big reveal that we'll have tomorrow night, saw two involved in an ugly house fight which wasn't caught on camera being sent home.
What happened there will be the focal point of the original portion of this week's posts as we'll be looking at that from the standpoint of DC FORUM. Then, just after the final chapter began for one of MTV's most popular shows last night, ExtraTime will catch up with a Real World alum who will, later this fall, make his MTV return in making a cameo on the last season of Teen Wolf. That's all ahead.

DC FORUM: ENDGAME
A FIGHT IN REDEMPTION ISLAND
As it is when we have to discuss things of a controversial nature on these shows in what this site calls the FORUM, again it's worth noting about our policy of not using this site to taking cast members to task for whatever their bad behavior, but rather to offer some look from observing it in an objective manner and let you, our loyal readers, be the judge and make your call in the court of public opinion. This prevents this site and this writer & fan from having to side with one of the parties, risk objectivity and perhaps deal with costly circumstances at the other's expense.
Many times, we have had to endure seeing something like this take place on a Challenge where people get into physicality in the house and them being given the heave-ho. We discussed this after what happened to a girl who would've easily been cast for this season, Nia, after what she did with Jordan on Exes 2 and rekindling what we saw with her on her original Real World season in Portland. We then did this again during Rivals III when Camila and Tony got into it and both paid the price in them also being sent home as well.
Now, we have to deal with this for at least a third time here: this time with someone who happens to be Tony's brother -- who also happens to celebrate his birthday this weekend -- and a girl who knows what it's like to be a fireball in the MTV houses she has lived in since we first saw her in the Are You The One? mansion back in winter 2014.
We first got to see Tony on Real World Skeletons three years ago, as well as his brother Shane when we saw him head up to Chicago from the Bayou for a weekend visit. Those who saw that season saw a house argument go down with the blond Raines brother watching from a distance with no idea that we would soon see that translate into later MTV appearances when the two went onto The Challenge Bloodlines a year later.
They got into punches in that house that would've sent them home before the first mission went down, but Tony getting hurt after he had hooked up with Christina and cheating on his girlfriend Madison back home became the memory of their opening stanza on the spinoff. There was also what happened with Tony and Camila when they, too, also got into an intense argument that would've turned violent but nonetheless sent them home early as well. But last season, we saw the sober Tony who's supposed to be a good example to his two kids prevail. But anything can happen, of course.
It's true that Simone is one of the most dynamic personalities to grace an MTV show since we first saw her on that original AYTO season. She got very emotional around the usually funny man J.J. in that house in Kauai - which eventually brought them to Exes II, but it's what happened in Week 6 of that season which epitomizes her fiery persona.
When that week's truth booth result was revealed of Chris T. and someone Simone put in, Paige, in them being a perfect match, she jumped up and cheered, while the girl who was his crush in the house, Shanley, was at first reduced to tears. And it led to the biggest blowup in that first season, arguably of that shows history, when she went all in on her as the Indiana native was left reeling and many to voice their displeasure for how Simone reacted to that result. And of course, there was what happened with her and Thomas on Exes 2, and her and Tony the last time we saw her on Rivals III.
And that leads us to this, and what happened last Tuesday. A rapidly growing star in the Trifecta blog community is Allan Aguirre (@FrebrezzyFresh) and he compiled a full account from social media accounts and from rumor sites on that fateful night in the house. Check out that post on his Medium page, among his many well written, well thought out posts on his own blog.
For the total gist of things, it all began with what those who know a thing about hair known as "dry scalp," and where Simone gets angry at Shane for not greasing her scalp. Then, she went downstairs to complain about him while Devin and Amanda enjoying a drink or two, with no idea that Shane is eavesdropping on their conversations. Then, things intensify inside the two… and we'll leave it to them and to the rest in the Redemption House (sans Darrell, who was asleep) to explain things from their Twitter accounts.
● SIMONE @SimoneJKelly
"Lets be clear. Shane has a fucking drinking problem. He's had 2 DUI's and has to breathe into a fuckin machine before he starts his vehicle. Breaking a bottle and WALKING AWAY on my own will was the biggest thing I could have done in that situation. Period. The argument was NEVER about my hair. Lets be clear. Believe the painted pictures u want. The conversation was about the demographics of The show and the way it's casted. Shane, being drunk was somehow "offended" by me saying the network doesn't cast as many African Americans."
● SHANE @TheShaneRaines
"Just to clear things up I didn't hit Simone she said something inappropriate, I called her out and she didn't like what I had to say."
● DEVIN @MTVDevinWalker
"Wowwww that's how we played it out ?? Confusing. My stance on the fight last night has remained consistent. For those confusing it, here it is again: The fight between @TheShaneRaines and @SimoneJKelly should have never turned physical. Idk who took it from verbal to physical first. However there was a fight and both were wrong. 2 good ppl that made a mutual mistake. Both deserved to be sent home."
● AMANDA @MTV_AmandaG
"He drank a whole bottle of NyQuil & had a half bottle of wine w/vodka drinks on top of that..he was WASTED. &if u dont believe how out out of control he really was TAKE A LOOK AT DEVINS ARM. Dev had to put him in a choke hold to get him off of her!!! Devin also had to go to the hospital because he bit so hard it broke skin... Simone's braid was also ripped out as well...."
● LATOYA @TeaTimeWithToya
"So the☕️is that Simone & Shane fight was really about race..not grease. But this is a TV show & it is edited for entertainment purposes only"

And in an Instagram post she later deleted, Simone discussed this matter further...
From INSTAGRAM @SimoneJKelly
And posted the episode was a photo of Shane's face with a few marks left on his face by Simone.
Just to review, both Simone and Shane get into a fight where he hits her twice on the face, and she responds by using a champagne bottle -- made of glass, of course -- as a means to protect herself, and holds it out with the threat of her smashing him with that. Although not as timely as he wanted, Devin then gets involved in grabbing Shane in a choke-hold, and actually being bit by him when he was strangled by the neck. Security gets called in to break up the fight, and Shane gets told to leave, and eventually the same goes for Simone. Devin would also go... but to the hospital to get checked up after getting bitten.
This was not captured on camera because the camera crews embedded with them were taking a break from their shift. And it's likely that no surveillance cameras were installed in the Redemption House just yet because of the belief by production that there would not be as much drama in that house, but after what happened they would've changed their minds. And as discussed on the MTV RHAP with Ali Lasher and guest host Johnny Langan even if cameras were present in the house, it's likely footage of this would still be heavily edited or perhaps not shown at all because of the graphic nature of the incident, as MTV has learned its lesson after the Snooki punch on Jersey Shore, and Amber Portwood being indicted for domestic violence on then-husband Gary Shirley on Teen Mom. And it was because of an incident like this that we don't have two of Johnny's best friends, Kenny and Evan, on The Challenge anymore.
For Shane, this is the continuation of what's become an unfortunate trend that he and his brother Tony have chalked up of getting sent home from all but one Challenge season that either of them have appeared on, the past two instances relating to violence and even dating back on when we first saw them on Real World Skeletons. For Simone, this adds to what we have seen from her starting on that AYTO season, then translating to what we saw in the fight no one saw in an actual Challenge episode and everything else we've seen from her since then.
But as I've stated many times both here and on social media, to me no matter whatever bad behavior they bring to us on these shows, those won't change at all how I perceive people in real life. And regardless of what we see on TV I'll always remain supportive of whose people who I support and are friends with on social media, no matter how badly they are being portrayed on the show and how rude everyone else will be towards them.
With that in mind, does this mean that we won't the hairstylist on these shows anymore, and should Monie be invited back to one of these shows? Let me know in the comments below and on my Twitter @DC408Dxtr at #DCChallenge.
To continue on the theme of that bit above (the Things to Know recap makes its debut starting with Episode 3 this weekend), here are this week's two polls...
Who should be to blame for causing
the fight that sent them both home?
● SIMONE 38%

will help him win or make him an
easy target?

● The Vets will strike back 97%
As we reach the end of this month of July, and as one fandom in the MTV world has been enthralled by the first two episodes of this Challenge, another is preparing to begin a bittersweet final journey. And if you went to Comic-Con last weekend, then chances are you saw ads around the San Diego Convention Center and in the Gaslamp District promoting an MTV staple of the past six years, and has been the most popular TV series at the Olympics of pop culture and comic books for a few years.
Last night -- as we talk to you on this Monday July 31, the final ten episodes of MTV's most successful foray into scripted programming, Teen Wolf, began airing on a new night of Sunday, one already occupied by other hit dramas as The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Last weekend in Surf City, castmates Tyler Posey, Dylan Sprayberry, Shelley Hennig, Cody Chrisfian and Khylin Rhambo held a panel before a standing room hall in SDCC where scenes from the show were shown to fanatics of the show, along with signing autographs with the throngs who have been with them since when it premiered back in 2011.
Along with executive producer Jeff Davis, this Wolf Pack were the guests of honor for Team MTV at SDCC, which also saw Johnny Bananas, Camila and Cory join in the fun as the channel once again hosted a festival as part of the Comic-Con festivities. And along with AYTO alum Ryan Malaty hosting a countdown of the show's biggest moments which aired before last night's premiere, the Trifecta will actually have some representation on this final run for Teen Wolf, as someone who started on The Real World will pop up in a guest role at some point. And to see where his journey began, you'll have to go back to the beginning of this decade.
Season 24 of The Real World took the series to Washington, D.C., as buzz surrounding the first term of President Barack Obama swept the District of Columbia... things back then were probably much different, calmer and more optimistic as it is right now in our nation's capital. To Challenge fans, this was were we first saw Emily Schromm as that Midwesterner who came to Washington to rediscover herself. She had no idea of the post-Real World life she would have, eventually becoming a force on The Challenge and the fitness career she has gone on since winning Rivals II. Only her and Ty have been on a Challenge after leaving DuPont Circle, but one who's had as much success as her after being in that house is someone who's made his mark in Hollywood.
Mike Manning came to Washington intent on discovering who he is, just as the country began to show hope in Obama after the turbulent Bush presidency. He came there from Colorado, where he was the envy of his high school in the Denver suburb of Thornton: star athlete, prom king who the girls loved, and a golden child of his Christian family as its oldest sibling. However, he rethought about his definition of what love is, and decided to date guys along with girls and making him a bisexual. His time in D.C. would become a turning point for him and whether his family will accept him for who he is.
There in the District, Mike came not only to redefine himself but also to make social change, first with working as an environmentalist with the Energy Action Coalition, but later would turn his attention to working for LGBT rights, where he interned for the Human Rights Campaign. He took part in a march in the streets of Washington for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer community along with Emily and some of their roommates in proudly displaying the iconic rainbow flag. And his HRC work also allowed him to met fellow Colorado Representative Jared Polis, one of the handful of openly gay Congressmen and its only gay parent, as well as attending President Obama speaking at an HRC dinner towards the end of the season. Mike feels that him being on a show that has documented the LGBT community for a long time has influenced him to use TV's strong power to drive public opinion and help create change in social issues. And last year, he got down to one knee in front of his partner and they got engaged.

And in an Instagram post she later deleted, Simone discussed this matter further...
From INSTAGRAM @SimoneJKelly
"Usually, I let the network edit the show however they want & deal with the backlash/response with the viewers later. But after watching how LIGHTLY what happened between myself & Shane was played out. I MUST say something...
The disagreement of me & Shane DID NOT start because he wouldn't grease my scalp. Period. The hair situation happened earlier around 3/4pm. I wouldn't be that upset with anyone enough to wanna physically fight them about some damn hair. The fight between us occurred that evening, practically the next day @ around 2am when production & cameras were gone.
The disagreement started because myself & Devin were talking about the demographics of the network and the way the show is casted. My point was African Americans don't receive the same press follow up support. And mostly when African Americans are casted on tv, they're usually mixed (i.e. @JonnaMannion), one of my best friends that is black and white but raised by a white woman. Or they are a "ratchet" type.
Shane got mad saying I wouldn't let him talk. Saying "this stupid bitch won't let me talk". Everyone thought he was joking because there's no way you can be this mad about that. While I WAS SITTING DOWN, he was yelling in my face & I put my hand up and said Shane get out my face. He hit me 2 times on the side of my face & got on top of me. Pulling my hair & banging my head on the bench. All I could do was scratch his face. He's 6 feet & 160 pounds. I'm 5 feet & 110 pounds. What else could I really do?
Thank God Devin was there. Had to choke Shane ass out because he wouldn't stop before security came. You didn't see he had to go to the hospital because Shane bit him until he bled.
During that timeframe, Shane drank a whole bottle of Robitussin, a whole bottle of wine w/ Latoya, & then came to the rooftop to have drinks w/ myself, Amanda & Devin. When it's a KNOWN fact he MUST blow into a breathalyzer before starting his vehicle. We do psych & background checks before the show. He should have been on alcohol restrictions in our home. And we shouldn't have been left alone with someone like that. We're on the 5th floor. Security on the 1st. Not cool.
After security came, yes I broke a wine bottle. I was so HOT! a man just put his freaking hands on me. I put it down on my own & walked away because that's what I WANTED TO DO.
Domestic Violence. NOT okay. A man putting his hands on any woman. Not okay. I wonder if this situation would have been made so light if I were white?"
And posted the episode was a photo of Shane's face with a few marks left on his face by Simone.
Here are the marks she left on my face. I didn't hit her, that's why she didn't have any marks on her. #receipts pic.twitter.com/MHvRlgoWNl— Shane Raines (@TheShaneRaines) July 26, 2017

CATCHING UP WITH...
Real World D.C.'s MIKE MANNING
Last night -- as we talk to you on this Monday July 31, the final ten episodes of MTV's most successful foray into scripted programming, Teen Wolf, began airing on a new night of Sunday, one already occupied by other hit dramas as The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Deep inside of the Mike we saw on Real World is one who's had a career in the entertainment world since he was 14 when he did some children's theater productions in his hometown including one based on a classic story by Charles Dickens. It was after Real World that Mike would make his name in Hollywood, starring in several independent and made-for-TV movies, as well as guest spots on Hawaii Five-O, the online series Youthful Daze and on Disney Channel. It's there on the Mouse that he starred as a competitive snowboarder in its telepic Cloud 9 that premiered before the Sochi Olympics, and got some help from fellow U.S. snowboarders in training for his role.
It's not just acting that Mike has mastered: he has also done some producing work for a production company he co-founded called Chhibber Mann Productions with actor & producer Vinny Chhibber. That partnership, whose purpose is to create content "to connect audiences to entertainment that matters" with special focus given to positive social changing projects, has produced a few films. But its most notable project is Kidnapped for Christ, for which Manning is co-Executive Producer of along with 'N Sync alum and gay man Lance Bass. The documentary pic focused on controversial behavior modification methods used towards children at a church school in the Dominican Republic, and which had its premiere at Sundance in 2014, ultimately going to Showtime later that year. The film also pushed for a bill for be passed in Congress to regulate against abuse and neglect in residential programs such as those depicted in the film.
And while he was down in San Diego attending Comic-Con, Mike tweeted the following teaser:
Mike will be making his return to MTV during this coming summer & fall guest-appearing in one of those final episodes in Beacon Hills, appearing along Scott McCall and the characters who have made that show the most popular in the post-Jersey Shore era and just before it gives way to another MTV favorite, TRL, returning this fall. It is coming full circle for Mike.
Our congrats go out to him and wife Taylor, and later during this season here we'll be looking back on his bromance friendship with Challenger Leroy during that Real World season and on Rivals.
And that will do it for our look at Week 2 of The Challenge XXX here. Two reminders...
