Welcome again to SocialPulse and our continuing coverage of Real World Ex-Plosion. Been a little while, hasn't it? Couple weeks it has been, but been busy with the Sochi Olympics and being in good company with Costas & Friends. When we left San Francisco a couple weeks back, the exes Ashley C., Brian, Hailey, Lauren and Jenna surprised our strangers in the loft with not just a visit but also the realization that they'd be living with them. We also got to learn more about the relationships that brought these people together in the first place (perhaps bringing in new viewers to the show as well), and saw the tension rise among the now 11 total roommates who occupy that loft.
Wednesday was Episode 6, which I got to watch, taking a break from recording what would be a gold medal for Ted Ligety & two women's bobsled medals for the Americans. This week, we'll see Thomas get stuck between a rock and a hard place, better known to us as a good old-fashioned Real World love triangle between him, Jamie and his ex-girlfriend Hailey. Jenny's wild behavior in the city upsets her ex Brian (with a waving knife to boot), while yet another life-changer and a huge shockwave hits when one of the new roommates finds out that she is pregnant & may have to leave early. And after twitter's view of this episode, we'll look back at other famous Real World threesomes.

Putting this episode into perspective, my mind is, you might say, filled with emotions after watching this episode, and I'll be able to wrap up this & the previous episodes coming next week. Two things that stuck out to me from a historical angle is of both reality in Lauren finding out she is pregnant (which we'll cover in our episode wrap next week) and love.
We've seen this a lot on both Real World, on Challenges and now on Are You The One? of romances blossoming in the house among the roommates. Of course, any romance that comes about on camera has a varying degree of success. And when it involves three people, whether they're roommates or involving two plus a person they met while they were there, it of course always makes for some juicy drama. And we have the potential of seeing two of these on RW Ex-Plosion: Thomas, Jamie and Hailey; and most likely Jenny, Cory and Brian. This, of course, is not the first time the word "threesome" has been uttered on The Real World and not just for a single one night stand.
- The first such instance came in Hawaii with Ruthie, Malo and Teck. Ruthie had met Malo while she was out of the house during rehab, and Teck also happened to meet up with Malo too at the club. This created a bit of jealousy for Malo and admitted in the RW book that she wasn't happy about it.
- On the first Las Vegas season, we saw Steven, Trishelle and Frank. Im the premiere Steven & Trishelle made out in front of Frank in the club VIP room and then the boys get into words in the confessional in front of her. This would continue throughout the season with Trishelle & Steven becoming very closer, this bringing about a possible pregnancy test that didn't come true, and Frank becoming jealous of the two.
- In Hollywood, there was one involving Will, Greg and a girl they met while they were there, random girl Reva. She got it in first with the Chosen One, then she got it in with Will. And Reva even got involved with, albeit a little bit, with Greg's replacement Nick when he brought her home one night but ended things quickly after Will & Dave explained the backstory.
- In Cancun, we saw the triangle involving Jasmine, Jonna and Canadian DJ Pat. It was Jazzy who got to know Pat first, but when he rejected her, it inadvertently led to Pat becoming close to Jonna. This also involved Pat's brother, JR, and even roommate Ayiiia when she, Jonna and Pat got into a threesome of their own. This created some jealousy that eventually led the girls to be partnered on the Rivals Challenge.
- And in St. Thomas, we saw Trey get involved with two girls - housemate Laura and "girl back home" Chelsea. He became very attracted to Laura when he first saw her, but he also had feelings for Chel. After talking to her many times on the phone and dealing with Laura, Trey decided to fly Chelsea out from Baltimore. Both ladies eventually came face to face, and seemed very cordial, while him & Chelsea had some words in her hotel room. As I tweeted in my commentary, if they had used this Ex-Plosion twist on Hassel Island, you would only imagine what Trey would be going through if both of them lived with him and of course he'd be in a very awkward situation, just as we are seeing with Tom juggling both Jamie & Hailey and them now sharing the same house with him.
Romance have always been part of The Real World fabric over the last two decades, starting with Pam & Judd in the original San Francisco season. We've seen romances of all shapes and sizes come & go and featuring all types of young people. And it can always get a bit more juicy when three people are involved. Take what we will eventually see from Jamie, Tom & Hailey and Cory, Jenny & Brian.
As we wrap up here, next week I'll be writing a devoted wrap-up of the last two episodes of Real World Ex-Plosion; me being focused entirely on Sochi, save for watching this latest episode, being responsible for tabling the wraps of that and Are You The One? to after the Closing Ceremony.
