Hi again everyone, welcome back to DC SocialPulse as we bring you how twitter saw episode 6 of The Challenge: Free Agents. Last week in Uruguay, the competitors encountered the toughest mission so far when a rope swinging challenge saw strong players falling, and led to the winning team sending in two veterans into elimination which they won handily, and leading to a veteran/rookie stare down.

   And that tension that's been building in the house between some hot-headed veterans and one cocky rookie comes to a head again this week, this time out of the house. Meanwhile, it's TJ favorite time of the season when brains take precedent when he puts the contestants through a trivia test with their safety on the line. And the volatility that this season has shows itself once again in elimination.

   Speaking of the unpredictability of Free Agents, after our episode wrap we'll put that into perspective with other aspects of the sports world, along with appreciation for another one of the best in the interview business.

THE DC WRAP

On now to theWRAP, and we start with the tension between the vets & Jordan. We ended last week with him getting into a stare down with Johnny Bananas, which was the 2nd straight week that we saw Jordan and his arrogant behavior in the house. This week as they rode home from a night out, Bananas and CT become a bit annoyed by Jordan and his attitude. That led CT to call Jordan out, and they begin to fight on the van. Ultimately, CT wants to fight Jordan and kick his rear end if Jordan signs a permission slip, which Jordan doesn't. But not all was drama in the vans as they were celebrating Jonna's birthday (which is Nov. 10 BTW, same week as me, CJ, Trey, Ashlee & Big Easy). They all danced & enjoyed themselves, and a few people were very lucky to kiss the birthday girl.

   The week's mission is rather different from the ones we've seen so far this season: it's an individual one, and it doesn't even involve endurance, strategy or physical. In fact, it's one TJ looks forward to in every challenge: to test everyone's knowledge and their brains. It's "Smarty Pants," and it's a good old-fashioned trivia contest. It's simple: contestants are asked a bevy of questions and it's a double elimination: get two wrong and they'd be dropped off a platform into the lake. The first four to fall off get thrown into the Draw, while the last guy & girl standing get voting dibs and immunity.

   As I tweeted during this contest and in the midst of finals & exams taking place, I wondered how many teachers & students stayed up to watch this episode and find out how much these people have forgotten since 5th grade. Well, they don't remember a lot since elementary school and probably they not only lost some sleep but also had some laughs like TJ, especially when Bananas thought Dutch is Australia's official language, seeing Jordan get style points from the Olympic diving judges and listening to Cohutta's commentary. In the end, it was Zach and him knowing his Disney princesses who won for the guys, while Devyn won for the girls & saved her hair from getting wet in knowing when MTV was born. I wonder if fellow Brooklyner Sarah (who took this season off to go to college) give Dev advice on how to handle doing this trivia challenge...Sarah's influence definitely paid off.

   We've seen in these last few weeks the complexities that come with being a mission winner and having the voting power...this week was no different. Dev forgave Theresa for that shady vote and Dev wants to put Laurel in again which doesn't please her. Laurel then suggests that Theresa goes in so that karma of being shady & doing this backstabbing will get back to her just like what happened last year. Laurel then brings out a paper to write all the names of the girls left and tells Dev she will be first on that priority list if she is sent in. And when voting time comes, Devyn goes with Laurel's advice and votes in Theresa, which undoubtedly surprises her and wants payback. Not much drama for the guys as much as it was for the girls: Zach decides to play it safe and send newcomer Swift into the arena.

   The week's Draw sees Jordan and Camila draw the kill card and they will face Swift and Theresa foe the game Looper. Last time we saw it, it was a long 90-minute battle between Cara Maria and Nia; this time around there's a rope by the bell and padding has been added to the harnesses to prevent them from cutting off circulation. As much as Cara Maria's epic win became a statement to everyone that she would become a contender this season, the battles we saw this week became statement wins by those who emerged victorious. For the guys, Swift went up against Jordan, and it took just 10 seconds for the Oklahoman to take care of the first-timer in decisive fashion. And the timing might've been perfect: on the same night, his hometown Thunder took care of the Clippers to advance to the NBA Western Conference Finals against the Spurs, so Oklahoma City sees two winners on this night.

   Then it was Camila vs. Theresa; this pitted the only girl to win a previous Challenge (and w/ Jemmye won two jungles to go to the Rivals II final) against someone who had never won an elimination; plus there's some history between both of them (argument in Prague & them being paired in Costa Rica). It started off on pretty much the same page as the first Looper battle in being it was a stalemate and of who wants it more. However, with one being relatively small and the other being a basketball player, Camila began to struggle against someone who's Theresa's size and, in the usual Camila fashion, she starts to cry in knowing she can't pull her opponent and eventually let's go of her rope and gives up on it. And the fifth previous finalist goes home on this season as Theresa notches her first ever elimination win, and in all, two statement wins by two competitors in the Draw.

WINNERS OF THE NIGHT

- Theresa: Like a few others, the individual Free Agents format was the one thing Theresa wanted more than anything for this season. After falling short w/ Ryan, Camila, Jasmine & Team Blue, until this week Theresa had never won an elimination round in her four previous Challenge seasons. By taking care of Camila - a top-class competitor no less - to notch her first elimination win, plus what we've seen from her so far, it's finally starting to come together for someone who's been a good competitor but thanks to politics hasn't gone to a final. It's also a good bounce back performance for her knowing she was ridiculed for her throwaway vote last week, so it's a good reply by her to everyone that she's in this thing. I know Croatia's biggest MTV super fan, Neya, is very excited about this.

- Jordan: Whether you like him or not after watching the past three episodes, Jordan no doubt does earn some more cred and respect this week. For those like me who's followed Jordan from well before RWPDX went to air, this is someone who might get a bad rap for his aggressive & arrogant attitude. But you can't deny that he also has an inspiring story of being someone who can do anything even if a handicap might've told him otherwise. He's been a great competitor who's been able to compete in any sport even cheerleading and what we saw in Thailand last year made a name for himself. Yes, he might've gotten some hate from Bananas for how he showboated his way down after the 2nd wrong answer, but for someone who came here to prove his bronze medal effort on Rivals II wasn't a fluke, him winning with ease over Swift in the Draw was definitely a statement win.

- Devyn: As we've seen with Preston, it's always a breath of fresh air when someone we wouldn't necessarily think of as a great competitor does very well to impress us on The Challenge. That's what we saw with Devyn when she was the last lady standing in the trivia contest, outlasting everyone else to win this week. She gained a cult following during BOTS for her hilarious commentary while being part of a Brooklyn team that made it to the final, and she appeared on last week's Best of the Worst After Show as "Miss Free Agents" to pass out the prizes to the eliminated contestants. This week, she added more to her sophomore showing by winning this week and proving that it isn't just her fellow Brooklynite Sarah who can handle all the trivia...she also has some brain along with beauty.

- Cohutta: The nice return engagement of Cohutta to The Challenge this season continues this week. I chose him as one of the players who have impressed me so far this season last week, from crossing the log in week 1 to having a episode devoted to him the next. This week, Cohutta impressed us with his unique commentary and one-liners on the interviews we saw during the trivia. Along with his fellow Sydney castmate Isaac, we've seen Team Sydney make a good showing on here this season.

- Team STT: At this time two years ago, the RW St. Thomas cast had just got home from paradise to get ready for both their closeup and their first Challenge. The two STT rookies have impressed me their first go this season; last week we've talked about Latoya, this week we give props to Swift. He made his mark by playing smart and blocking the other team from entering the roof in the first mission, then saw him fall off his chair in praising Preston. And though he got some heat for the Brandon vote and prematurely calling himself a top competitor before being beaten handily by Jordan, Swift did give us some laughs on the After Show. What STT might lack in drama in the V.I., they've made up for it in being fan friendly and hanging tough these last 3 Challenges. They have a bright future ahead.

PERSPECTIVE

After the episode aired on Thursday, me and follower AlfredM (@NotoriousAJM) had a little tweet chat about how both of us have been enjoying this season, with AJM telling me it's the best since Rivals. As I wrote last week. I've been enjoying this season as much as the others I've watched since I started watching The Challenge again two years ago. Halfway through this season, we have been seeing this might be more unpredictable a Challenge than we've had in recent years, especially with the elimination twist and this being an individual game this time around.

   Though not maybe as stacked as the one we saw last year in Thailand, the Sweet 16 who are still in this is still a fine field. For the guys, it's Bananas, Cohutta, CT, Leroy, Johnny, Jordan, Preston & Zach, while for the girls the Elite 8 are Aneesa, Cara Maria, Devyn, Laurel, Jessica, Jonna, Nany & Theresa. Out of this group, just as it was at the start exactly half have been to a final - 8 competitors; but the only players who have experienced winning a final now exists with the guys in Bananas, CT and Zach who all have won the last four Challenge seasons. So, even if it's supposedly a weak group among the females as what we saw last year in Thailand, we know the lady who will emerge victorious out of this pack will taste Challenge glory for the first time now that Camila has gone home much earlier and the odds of the other girls have improved.

   To put this season into perspective for those who follow sports as much as I do, the unpredictability that we have seen this season is Free Agents makes this a more wide open affair than what we saw last year in Thailand and on par with when I got to watch a Challenge two years ago on BOTS but with more veterans present. Though we've become accustomed to (and often love) watching the same teams and people winning titles in all sports, nothing is more exciting than when the competition is so wide open and anyone could win.

   While we still have Bananas & CT in this field as well as some other big names, it's a totally different game this season when the attention turns from relying on a teammate to relying on just yourself, though the missions we've seen until this week have been team/pair affairs. This has made things more wide-open than usual in these Challenges. And it's good to see both the big names and newcomers get an equal shot at winning. And there's a few examples that I can take from watching Free Agents that we've seen in sports that can apply to the unpredictability we're seeing here: 

- There's what we saw during March Madness this past college basketball season when a number of top teams were upset throughout the tournament, and leading to the highest seed to win the National Championship in nearly 30 years - UCONN as an 8th seed winning the title, delighting Ashley from Team San Diego and everyone in Husky land.

- Golf fans know that Tiger Woods has not won a major title since he won heroically at the 2008 U.S. Open, and since then 19 different golfers have won either The Masters, the U.S. Open, the Open Championship or the PGA Championship; Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy & Bubba Watson have won multiple majors as well during this span.

- And with the Premier League season having wrapped up last Sunday, until the emergence of Manchester City in winning two of the last three EPL titles, the last team other than Manchester United, Arsenal & Chelsea to win English soccer's biggest prize was Blackburn Rovers in 1995, who now play in its 2nd tier, the Football League Championship.

So, as I've tweeted at the end, it's anyone's game, enough for me to analyze the field on here. For the guys, it appears Bananas & CT still have the inside track to get into the final three, but any one of the six other guys could make a case to join them there with each of them having won either a mission or a elimination or at least have contended. For the ladies, with two major contenders in Team Subtitles gone, it's now anyone's game in that field, though Team Black - Laurel & Cara Maria now having top odds for the girls. The Team Portland group have definitely done well this season, most especially Jessica and Jordan, don't be surprised if lightning strikes twice and they and/or Johnny go to the final again. And don't be surprised too if the impossible happens and Preston & Devyn make it to the end. It's the endless amount of possibilities among the Sweet 16 who are still left in Uruguay that should make for a great second half coming.

FAN OF THE WEEK

As we wind up this week, another chance for me to acknowledge another Challenge/RW fan, and it's three. First...

- A year ago last Wednesday, we discovered a brand new interview host in Brian Cohen (@BusDriversRoute) when he spoke to Averey during Real World Portland on his very first show. Brian has certainly had as fantastic a rookie campaign over the last 12 months as Team Portland as he's talked to 25 members of Team MTV on his Bus Drivers Route podcast. This list including six from RW Portland (Averey, Anastasia, Nia, Johnny, Jordan & Marlon), six from RW Ex-Plosion (Ashley, Jamie, Jay, Thomas, Jenny & Hailey) and some of The Challenge's biggest names during Rivals II & Free Agents (Laurel, Kenny, Frank, Zach, Knight, Bananas, Leroy, Wes, Cara Maria, Jemmye & TJ). As you saw in previous posts here, Brian is also the inspiration behind my Fan's View articles as his unique look inside the reunions he attended for RWPDX & Rivals II got me to do similar posts getting the POV from other fans for those shows, the after shows for Ex-Plosion and the Are You The One? reunion.

- And as we post this on Sunday, May 18, two other members of the RW/Challenge fanamily celebrate their birthdays today. First, there's the Croatian superfan of these MTV shows, Neya (@NeyaSivera). We talked about her last year when she was a fan of Theresa and the RWPDX cast, but she's also huge fans & loyal twitter follower of countless other people from The Real World and The Challenge, as well as Are You The One? and a few others. And finally, there's one of my first two subjects from my Fan's View posts, Kevin (@KevinGonzalez_). As you saw last year, he talked to us about being at the RWPDX reunion, and also went to the RWSTT & BOTS reunions too. So. Happy Birthday Kevin and Sretan Rođendan Neya.
