What's up everyone, welcome to DC SocialPulse powered by DCNOW, and taking a break from the unofficial beginning of summer - Memorial Day weekend for our exclusive episode diary of week 7 of The Challenge: Free Agents. Last week in Uruguay, tension between the veterans and one rookie began to come to a head, while we also had good old-fashioned trivia contest in the midst of finals. And the volatility of this Free Agents proved itself again when another key contender was sent packing in the elimination, for which there was a very interesting backstory to what happened afterwards; we'll have more on that following this week's episode wrap.

   Speaking of this week, we'll see some food being passed around, and rolled around for that matter, with one of the wackiest missions we've seen on this show, along with the usual drama surrounding players voting in one another. But the main event this week surrounds what has been brewing for the last couple weeks: a rivalry coming down to an elimination showdown: and we are anxious to find out if one player can settle the score by pulling off the ultimate risk/reward gamble of pulling off the boldest or most boneheaded move we've ever seen.

   Also after theWRAP, we'll look at our fan of the week and how one of my followers got to join one of the key figures from this week's episode for a good cause just before he set off for Uruguay.

theWRAP

We commence the Wrap with something very fitting for what most of us are having this extended 3-day holiday weekend: a good old fashioned barbeque. For the week's mission, it was named, of all things, Sausage Party, and for the 2nd straight week this was an individual affair. At first glance when they got the clue, they thought it would be an eating contest...well, not exactly. Our competitors were all wrapped up in plastic wrap, much more larger than what we'd find in our kitchen but around the size of when travelers wrap their luggage around in plastic at the airport. The objective was to roll around an obstacle course and race each other. But they included rolling over a hot grill, going through condiments like tomatoes, and wrapping it all up by placing yourself on a bun.

   I had a laugh watching this challenge take place, especially with the ultra slo-mo's of the cast as they made their way around (It's so-called 5th major sport, it needs that kind of replay technology for some proof). For the girls, Laurel proved she is the even-money favorite after Camila's departure by winning again, and coming in 2nd was the only one who was even close to her was Cara Maria; Team Black 1-2. And for the guys, it was a lot tougher for them to do this than the girls, but Johnny and Zach emerged from the pack, and the Portlander took the win. Back in the pack and realizing top five win safety from being put into the Draw, Jordan realizes that everyone is finishing so he decides to not finish, knowing he might get his matchup. But first...

   There was some drama involving the ladies, which we spotlighted at the end of the cast tweets. On a night out, Aneesa wanted to talk to Laurel, and the elder stateswoman isn't happy the mission winner is working with her, and knows she could be the next one going home. Aneesa tries to convince Laurel to send Jessica in, but Laurel isn't having it. It was originally a split between her & Theresa, but it was what happened out at the bar which eventually determined things; and eventually Laurel voted in Aneesa. Being influenced by the talk they & some vets had the previous night, Johnny votes in Bananas, which was influenced by Jordan, who got himself into The Draw and is eager to get what he exactly wants.

   So, we are in The Draw, and wanting for his golden opportunity, Jordan tells Laurel that he will go into elimination and flip all of the three cards instead of just his own card to guarantee his spot in the matchup against the champ. Privately, Jordan wanted to find out if it would be alright for him to just flip just his card, but Laurel makes sure that flipping all the cards would be a bold move. Once they arrive in the chamber, everyone believes Jordan will bail out from his plot, but no soirée! He flips all of the three cards (including Leroy's and Preston's) and gets his matchup against Johnny Bananas.

   And then, the time comes...it's the Wrecking Wall elimination where we saw Frank take out Dustin back in week 2. But before the most-anticipated elimination battle in a while, there was the undercard to the main event, and that would be the ladies matchup. Jonna had it very easy when she beat Emilee when this was last contested, but when she faced Aneesa she realized why Aneesa has been the queen of these eliminations and the Philly lady took care of business. Then, it's Jordan vs. Bananas, and they started out neck & neck. But one wrong move, and perhaps the handicap he has with his deformed right hand, would see Jordan lose his footing and fall off down the wall. And when Bananas rung the bell at the top, he showed who is still king of this show. And in the end, Laurel sheds some tears in the arena & back at the house as the man she's been seeing throughout this thing heads home, while the man who has won this four times previously can relish this win.

So, in something we haven't done here in some time, some thoughts on this. Do I think Jordan's move of flipping all the cards was the boldest or most boneheaded thing we've seen on these shows? Well, I'm not going to join everyone else to make a judgement about that so I don't get myself in hot water with fans of him or Bananas, but you knew this was gonna be inevitable (by the way I didn't see the season tease or the promo this week, I tend to check out other channels during commercial breaks).

   We've seen all the buildup, starting with Bananas talking about Jordan's ego during the Bar Crawl mission, the deliberations in Week 4, and both Bananas & Jordan winning in the Draw before their showdown. Plus, we've seen the possibilities of taking a risk/reward gamble instead of playing conservatively. We saw that there when Jordan took a chance to compete in that week 3 mission and got DQ'd, along with of course this week.

   And do I think the Wall was the right elimination game for Jordan & Bananas? Well, not necessarily. I'll be comfortable with whatever game they play, but maybe they might've chosen a better one such as Balls Out or Oppenheimer to make it more competitive for both, especially with Jordan having the slight handicap that he has. In those games, there are multiple rounds for the competitors, instead of just a one & done as we saw with the Wall. Having those those games instead of this week's would've been more fairer for those to lose one round and then still have some room to adjust things.

Winners of the Night

With hardly much else to say after all this, there's not much more explanation for me in awarding my Winners of the Night to two veterans, Aneesa & Bananas for telling everyone that the vets still rule the house after winning their eliminations, as well as to Cara Maria & Laurel for doing great in the mission, and Jessica & Johnny representing Team Portland well where they now are one person short in their group's sophomore showing.

DC's VIEW

Taking a look back at last week, more emerged before this week's show about one of The Challenge's biggest names and her unceremonious elimination earlier than expected. Given that she's the only lady in this season's field to have won a Challenge final and made it to the end last year, no one thought that Camila would be eliminated midway thru the season when she lost to Theresa when she seemed to have given up in the arena. But as we found out, we didn't get the exact reasoning behind her emotional breakdown and why she wasn't in true 100% top form going into South America.

   In reading an interview Zap2It.com did with Camila on Thursday, we found out that she initially declined to be on this season because her father had just passed away just after we saw the Rivals II finale and before they left to go to Uruguay. But being that it was the 25th season of The Challenge and she had just placed 3rd in the final, MTV really convinced her to do it, and she reversed course. But even as she was in Uruguay, her heart & mind was back home during her time there, and she had yet to visit father Nakagawa's grave site. 

   So, it was obviously the emotion that she had, the struggle to hang on and the difficult decision to give up that got the best of her in the elimination. But we also found out in the final edit of the episode, they actually didn't show the exact reasoning behind why she gave up. And while Camila is someone who gives everything she's got every time she's on these shows, MTV actually didn't mention much, at the beginning of the season and then during this first half, about her dad passing away and the struggle she had in the arena.

   As someone who's a huge fan of The Real World and The Challenge, and also recognizing what we've seen this in the past especially on the legacy series, I'm also one who always believes that there are things that are much bigger than the show and, when necessary, should always be given first priority when it comes to deciding whether to do a Challenge or if they want to continue in the Real World house. They include, among others: school, career and, most importantly, family. For school, on this week's After Show we saw Sarah for the first time since being sent home on Rivals II for Trishelle bolting early, and after seven straight appearances she decided to finally take a season off to focus in on college. For career, a number of these cast members have jobs on the side and often they're too busy to work a challenge into their schedules. Same goes with family life as well, with some also being parents to their kids and others now settling down with their significant other.

   We've seen a couple of these instances of family first taking place in the last year. On Rivals II, we saw Naomi get a call from her family back home that her dad was terminally sick and partner Cooke gave her the wise advice to leave when it's necessary; while Zach got emotional when he got a call from his family that he missed the birth of his sister's baby, just before he was surprisingly eliminated. And of course on Real World Ex-Plosion, we saw Jay get the heartbreaking news from the Bronx that his mom had died while he was in San Francisco and he flew home for a few days to attend to her funeral: while Cory's ex Lauren got a positive pregnancy test and decided to fly back home to deal with it in private and eventually (& supposedly) got an abortion.

   I'm not one of those fans who would go on twitter to just say to cast members wish you were on this season by itself. When I tweeted to Sarah during the lead up to this season, while I did say "wish you were on this season" I also added that "school & family come first." I'll always gonna leave it up to all these cast members to decide for themselves if they want to do a Challenge, and of course to BMP & MTV to pick who goes. But I'm always gonna be that person who, while I enjoy watching them on these shows, I will always tell them that there are important things outside of the show, and if it has to do with family, school and career matters conflict with doing a potential Challenge, or if a family event takes place while they're doing a RW season, then they should be given first priority.

   With that in mind, Camila if you're reading this, hope you're alright and be strong. You now have an extra angel watching over you.

Fan of the Week

Finally, we end on a lighter note with our Fan of the Week. And considering that this one involves the guy is still king after what we saw this week, we have to go all the way back to when the weather was much cooler to find this one, involving one of my good twitter friends & a fellow MTV fan who resides where Theresa, Knight and Melinda come from, Milwaukee, WI. Just before the cast left for Uruguay, one of my fellow followers, Shane Battle (@S_Battle), took advantage of the opportunity to join Johnny Bananas, Leroy and other video gamers to play Call of Duty III for charity to support Special Olympics & its SoCal chapter. Though I'm not really big into video games, Shane had the chance to play COD3 with both of them, and I remember watching their live webcast of them playing that game on my iPad.
