Hi, hello, what's up and welcome one & all to DC SocialPulse as we kick off our weekly coverage of Season 31 of Real World: Go Big or Go Home from Las Vegas with this SocialPulse diary. After taking some time off after The Challenge Bloodlines, we are back into the swing of things with TV's original reality series kicking off another season in familiar quarters.
For the third straight season, The Real World has tweaked its simple, old-school formula of seven strangers living in a house and integrated an element of the past in bringing Road Rules-style missions into this season, very fitting for the backdrop of a great city where going all in and go big is the norm. The roommates will confront their hopes, fears and anxieties as they do it all big time in Sin City.
This week, the saga begins as Dean, Kailah, Sabrina, CeeJai, Jenna, Chris and Dione arrive in Las Vegas not knowing what they can expect. But, instead of moving straight into the house, the roommates must conquer the fear of bungee jumping out of a hot air balloon in order to earn their key into their humble abode in DTLV. Plus, there's sexual tension with one of the guys with two girls, and another girl who's proud to be from the South tests the roommates' patience. And a late-night chat in the patio reveals one's life-changing secret.
We'll bring you all the interaction from this first Real World Thursday and the premiere episode itself, plus some of the lead-up to St. Patrick's Day and the Friday hangover. And following that on DC ExtraTime, we'll catch up with a Real World veteran from back in the day and the dream job he is enjoying with a true MTV Icon. That's all ahead as we kick off our in-season coverage right here.
As we begin our tenth Trifecta season we've covered here at the 'Blog, a little primer for those who are visiting us for the first time in case you're visiting. So, we had the best of both worlds in starting season 31 of Real World. As we expected, we had the thrills that came with the new Go Big or Go Home twist with everyone bungee jumping safely from the hot air balloon to earn their key into the Gold Spike. But we also had a slice of the old school RW as well, as in Jenna expressing her thoughts to the roommates but much to their dismay towards perhaps not being the most well-liked roommate. We also saw Dione's boyish charm attract two of the girls at the pool. And there was CeeJai opening up about her tough past of domestic violence.
As we begin our tenth Trifecta season we've covered here at the 'Blog, a little primer for those who are visiting us for the first time in case you're visiting. So, we had the best of both worlds in starting season 31 of Real World. As we expected, we had the thrills that came with the new Go Big or Go Home twist with everyone bungee jumping safely from the hot air balloon to earn their key into the Gold Spike. But we also had a slice of the old school RW as well, as in Jenna expressing her thoughts to the roommates but much to their dismay towards perhaps not being the most well-liked roommate. We also saw Dione's boyish charm attract two of the girls at the pool. And there was CeeJai opening up about her tough past of domestic violence.
Now if you were with us for our coverage of The Challenge Bloodlines or Season 3 of Are You The One?, then you know that the original write-up part of our weekly episode coverage has moved to its own dedicated post, DC WRAP, with respect to those who want a simple recap and to make this site more mobile-friendly. The WRAP has the Things to Know recap of the episode's key moments, Winners of the Night, more of the cast & RW when necessary, fan reaction and DC FORUM. Watch for the Premiere edition of that coming here in a few days, or nearer to Episode 2 on Thursday.
Now fast forward to now as we begin another Real World season, and Simon has been living the life that a privileged hundred-or-so have been wanting to experience as in the course of most of the past year, Simon has been traveling the world as part of the Rebel Heart Tour for the one & only Madonna. Since late summer of last year, he has served as lead hair stylist for her backup dancers on her world tour, which began in Montreal, Canada last September, trekked through North America in the fall & winter, and this week wrapped up overseas with Australia as summer down under comes to an end this weekend (and spring in the Northern Hemisphere).
Finally for right now, as this Real World season begins in Vegas a lot of you are already preparing for the next season of The Challenge, as Rivals III will be here just as summer 2016 beacons. We got to see our first glimpse of that season taking place in Mexico on Bloodlines finale night, as for the first time the theme for it was revealed right after Cara & Jamie's crowning moment inside the venerable Berlin Olympic Stadium. And of course, we've got a big season ahead with people both Challenge fans and those like me who follow all three shows of the Trifecta are familiar with, and the huge twist of them having to work with enemies of the opposite gender.
But in addition, it's not too early to think about Season 4 of Are You The One?. Just over a week ago, filming of that season began somewhere outside the United States. And the man who presides over the madness of the social dating experiment as its host tweeted the picture on the left from the Theater of Dreams known as the Match-Up Ceremony patio with the caption: "On my mark. Get set. Host. @AREUTHE1 #season4" In further tweets, Ryan adds that "it's the craziest yet! tune in this summer!"
Obviously, the new kids know who big the shoes they must fill following the beloved season 1 cast (who won the $1 million a week ago this Friday) and the last two groups needing, with a March Madness reference, a desperation buzzer-beater at the 10th & last matchup to snatch the cash. And just last week, it crossed another pop culture milestone which we'll explain to you on the WRAP here shortly. Of course, DCBLOG will be all over them once the buzz for those seasons kick off as we provide you with all the encompassing coverage you've come to expect.

SIMON AND MADONNA
Two doses of ExtraTime for you here, and in the premiere, we met Chris, a Mormon turned hippie and now someone who can be proud to be who he is as part of the LGBT community. And he joins a list of those from that community too many to mention that has been on this proud franchise who are proud of who they are.
For those of you old school fans, then you most likely remember Real World Paris for introducing us to all-time Challenge beast CT and musician's son Adam more than anything else in that stay in the City of Lights. But amidst all of what we saw back in 2003, we also had someone from that LGBT crowd represented there in Season 13 of Real World in Simon Sherry-Wood. One of the small handful of Real World'ers born outside the U.S. as a native Irishman, we saw Simon come down the English Channel to France with a good sense of humor and quick wit, while also being a model. And unlike the case with Chris, his family was accepting of him coming out and being openly gay.

Of course, Madonna's history perfectly aligns with that of MTV, starting with that performance in the wedding dress at the very first MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, the infamous triple kiss with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the '03 VMA's, and so many other moments too many to mention that have occurred since the Material Girl first burst onto the scene in the early '80s when Simon was a young kid. Before there was Britney and Lady Gaga, there was the Material Girl, and she has won more Moonmen than any other artist ever, and she's still doing her thing today with an appeal that just never seems to get old and gets better only with age.
After that last show on Sunday in Sydney, Simon posted on Instagram, "Tonight was the final Rebel Heart show in Sydney. I leave this experience feeling honored and grateful to have been a part of it. 57 cities...25 countries....I am forever a Rebel Heart. Much love to my tour family. You changed my life @Madonna! Sure, we haven't seen him on any Challenges, but going on the same kind of worldwide whirlwind that many Challengers have gone on over the years all in several months, Simon sure has had a blast traveling the world in the presence of a true original and an pop culture icon. Simon, hope you got to enjoy the ride with the Material Girl and hope all's well.

That will wrap up this first edition of The 'Pulse for Real World season 31, and again, the original portion of our episode coverage will be up here as soon as tomorrow but no later than the night of episode 2 on Thursday.
