When we left you back earlier this afternoon (as we talk to you just before midnight on the West Coast before we reach March 7th & a day before the next chapter of this franchise kicks off), the rookie pair of Olivia & Horacio were on their way out after that now-infamous golf ball contacted with her eye, ending their bid to shock the three established veteran teams. That didn't mean that Aneesa & Jordan or Bananas & Nany struggled to make ends meet in the first day or so of a final that will have taken 100 hours to complete by the time this one wraps up. And they all had to look up to Tori & Devin, whose partnership has blossomed a bit during this season including during the time that matters the most: before the final.
But after what we saw with all those three teams having to put up with the most-excruciating component of any Challenge final of having to consume several courses of food like it's Thanksgiving night, now they have to muster whatever energy is left in their tank to tackle the last third of this Ride or Dies final... and let's face it: there's a certain reason why they stretched this final over the last three parts -- just ask anyone who works in the TV business & they'll tell you it's all a numbers game. But on another note, a few other numbers are popping up: around 30 hours remain in this four-day & four-hour ordeal, and $1 million awaits who wins. And all that separates the final three is a rite of summer & autumn: a corn field that serves as their final destination, two final eliminations and a last test of strength and intelligence.

MOMENTS OF THE NIGHT
The 100 Hours' Critical Moments...
and a DC FORUM Parting Shot
As you watch what happens below with that night 2 pig-out, the day 3 elimination battle and the day 4 double elimination that decided this whole thing, think of how those critical moments of this final turned what would've been anyone's game for the taking into one that became a cakewalk for our first-time champs. What happened with Aneesa's ankle did her & Jordan in, and there will no doubt be naysayers who now feel that she should just become a full-time podcaster -- just trying to play at age 41 as she did there with practically no shot at winning past her prime may be a sign of the times. Same might possibly do for Nany considering how she has been on this show so many times, has made it to the end... and just couldn't muster getting over the last hurdle -- and just seeing the agony on her face when she knew that their last puzzle wasn't gonna be solved in time summed up what might've been her best & last shot.
This was Bananas & Nany's second time being paired up in a pairs Challenge season, and had it not been for what happened to them in Norway than he'd be an eight-time champ and she would've had #1. But in what we saw from both them and also with Aneesa & Jordan, something that was a topic for you to chat about during this three-part finale was of how the guys acted to the women and how they themselves were acting... this is obviously a $1 million game and it certainly got to them in the heat of the moment -- especially having to endure the four days & nights of hell with little time to rest in those conditions. As you saw above, that in a way affected how they played this game and the season as a whole, and one would think that they should take next season off, perhaps the rest of this time off too... but the champs knew that they would've wanted this moment, knowing that their legacies have been stamped quite a bit. And we shall resume this chatter with a toast to the champions after this.
Leading into the last few Super Bowls, we've seen a sign that things are changing in the NFL with Tom Brady and that legendary line of QB's now giving way to Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts and many others going forward. Perhaps, this Challenge season was one of those that comes around every few years that a changing in the guard is in order... and just seeing what we saw with Olivia, Horacio and Nurys this season and the potential that the CBS Challengers and rookies of recent years have, then we should let them take the steering wheel or, at least, begin taking turns in the driver's seat as we enter this new age for this show.
When this Ride or Dies theme was first revealed all the way back last autumn, the goal for those who see this circus from behind the camera was simply going away with what we've seen in recent seasons and turning the cameras to the competitors and their relationships with each other, and how the various aspects of those relationships would play out in this pressure cooker. Looking at the various pairs we no doubt had our favorites... but when it came to who would best exemplify those bonds over the last five months, then there's probably little doubt that this game benefited the pair that ultimately overcame a field that had twenty-one Challenge titles to their credit to gain a first ring of their own.
We have had the pleasure of following the full breadth of Devin and Tori's MTV journeys since they began as Are You The One? suitors in the mid-2010's and then brought their talents to Challenge land... him becoming a leprechaun of sorts drawing those skulls with a future Teen Mom as rookies, and her stellar rookie go on Season 30. It's safe to say, yes, that they have forged quite the persona in the eight years since their debuts, most particular the soap opera that Tori has been through with Jordan and, to a lesser extent, becoming the most recent one to go toe-to-toe with Bananas. But them being able to work and gel well this season, including winning that last daily to claim a spot in a final that they would win -- and also being the ones who were also calm & collected compared to everyone else and much more analytical, smart and motivated as well.
It's just the third time in the past decade that any combination of Johnny, CT or Jordan have not figured in the winners' circle on the male side since that infamous Cutthroat backpack involving those first two in that sentence. And let's be clear: it's pretty obvious that Devin and Tori are not as universally liked in Challenge Nation as the vets who rule this roost -- it's the same sentiment we all had towards the first of those non-trifecta champs in Zach & his San Diego squad when I started covering this show regularly a decade ago... it's also the same thing we might say about the other one in that list of Turbo considering what we saw in the two seasons that followed him winning War of the Worlds, and even to some way of Jamie's Bloodlines partner Cara.
But as we head into the next phase of this fifth pro sport, whether you like them or not we should now give at least some respect to the new king & queen of Challenge Nation: going into this, Devin & Tori were the embodiment of what a Ride or Dies pair should be, even though they started out as rivals on the lone season of the AYTO spinoff Second Chances before they first competed together on Dirty 30. And them also being generous enough to do something that production hasn't even bothered to do much in these past few years: give consolation money to the finalists for their hard efforts... a fond conclusion to a season might've felt long, but now we have some new kids on the block who are king & queen.
And in the end, Tori & Devin are more than deserving winners... now comes the tough task of having to come into the next season as champs -- we'll see how they live up to that new title of theirs when they come into the World Championship that begins tomorrow... that's the story of Ride or Dies as we see it.
