For the first time in 2015, DCBLOG is on the air...it's great to be back after taking the holiday break and spending it with the people I know best in my family. And if we haven't spoken on either Twitter or any of my other social media platforms, a very Happy New Year to you. As cold weather is braving just about all of the U.S. (it only got up to mid-50's and reached low 40's with plenty of wind where I am here in the Bay Area last week) with the exception of Miami, FL, things are warming up ahead of the skeletons of the roommates arriving in Chicago.

And just in time for our Double Coverage of Real World Skeletons and Battle of the Exes 2 that begins tomorrow on what should, we also have a new, refreshed look. For this first post of the new year, it's DC SocialPulse for Episode 3 of Real World Skeletons, along with A New Year's Special. On EP2, the two budding romances that clicked in the premiere headed into murky waters in Lake Michigan. Bruno and Sylvia suddenly find themselves having that first love put in doubt by their heated tempers. After clashing with her roommates in Wrigleyville, Madison eventually came clean to her haunting secret of being addicted to heroin and drugs by her ex-boyfriend, which also touches Tony, whose late dad had also gone through a drug-ridden history. And the group inadvertently foils the surprise being given to them that people from their past will head to Chicago.
For the third act last week, wild partying and scandalous hookups, including yes that always nice sight of seeing girls making out, lead to some big time tension between the guys and the girls in the house...or make both the Kitty-Kat Pack and the Wolf Pack. A battle between one of the guys and one of the girls leads to the revelation of another shocking secret. And the group all has to enjoy this time as a group of seven strangers as very soon, the first Skeleton will arrive at their doorstep.
As we did for Christmas last week, after twitter's view of the episode (and the succeeding Exes 2 Extra Baggage preview special) we'll be joining with Team MTV as they bid farewell to 2014 and hello to 2015. And after that, we'll have the story on the warm hospitality of one of the roommates' hometowns during one of the biggest moments of 2014 for both her and myself, and reflection on a reality TV icon behind two of the year's biggest hits.

Putting episode 3 in Cliff Notes form, when we saw the group visit Millennium Park in downtown, we saw a continental divide emerge where the guys and Nicole are forming the Wolf Pack, while Sylvia, Violetta and Madison are the Kitty Kat pack. There was a lot of wild partying and hookups which led to all of this, including the emergence of a drunk alter-ego, Clarice is V's alias when she's having fun.
We saw Tony ring up Elizabeth, who's branded in his audition tape as his "girl back home", and had supposedly found out from web sources, rather than friends, that he had become close to Madison and other things. The guy who just followed me over the weekend stresses the situation he might get into similar to what we saw with Trey a couple years ago, and the girls take note of the chance people they don't like showing up.
The moment that opened many eyes was the battle between Jason and Violetta. There, after he cleared things up, we find out that Jay's not with the mom of his kid but have a promise in place to meet with his child especially with having never known his dad. So, you saw above the great words of respect everyone gave to him knowing that he will be a great dad/uncle to that new baby.
And of course, no Real World season would be complete without a few things: 1, the sight of somebody walking around naked; in this case, it's Jason who gets the roomies talking about his "Anaconda." 2, Seeing two girls making out among the many hookups we see during the season. And 3, seeing Bruno walk into the bathroom with local girl Carla and a few girls, head into the small vicinity of the toilet room and make out with no cameras to capture all that action.
As we mentioned in my Fan's View Reality Debrief with Andrew Kirk posted back on Wednesday, 2014 has been a great year for MTV fans with a rejuvenated Real World, an unpredictable Challenge and two great seasons of Are You The One? driving most of my attention. And of course, we are on the edge of kicking off Double Shot Tuesdays with the skeletons coming on the next episode of The Real World in a couple days time, and of course Battle of the Exes 2 to follow.
But it's not just those shows alone that have driven the conversation of TV's only entertainment channel with an 8-digit twitter following. Last week on 'Pulse Extra for Episode 2, we brought you the Christmas time tweets of the casts of not just those three shows, but others as well as they marked the Yuletide holiday. And this week in this 'Pulse Extra, we will bring you them ringing in 2015.

So, our congrats here at DCBLOG go out to two members of Team MTV on their New Year's New Girls: Teen Mom's Caitlynn Lowell and husband Tyler Baltierra on the birth of their new baby girl Nova Reign, and Are You The One? host Ryan Devlin and his wife on the addition of their new girl. I know you will be great parents to your bundle of joy, and you're not alone; I will be an uncle soon enough with one of my cousins just a week or two away from welcoming her new baby as well; my extended family will be welcoming a new addition just as the oldest person still alive in our family turned 94 this past weekend.
And finally, as you saw in some of the tweets above from the Are You The One? casts, on 2014's next-to-last day the reality TV world lost someone perhaps not as well known as those we see on TV but still is an industry icon. Howard Schultz, President, CEO and Founder of Lighthearted Entertainment, died suddenly last Tuesday at the age of 61 while on vacation with his family in Hawaii. He was the executive producer of not just AYTO, but also another of 2014's biggest hits in VH1's Dating Naked, as well as ABC staple Extreme Makeover. The company also produced MTV afternoon hit NEXT!, the 2008 FOX summer hit The Moment of Truth and, where we first saw Real Worlder Tami in LA, the '90s series Studs, among others.
Schultz's passing comes a month after the deaths of Diem Brown and Ryan Knight, and nearly 11 years since the passing of fellow reality pioneer Mary Ellis-Bunim, Bunim-Murray Productions co-founder and Real World & Challenge co-creator. In this time of reflecting on them being part of the two casts that have won $1 million in the first two seasons of the show, the AYTO family have taken this loss hard as they looked at Howard as an inspiration, a mentor and a father figure to them, as well as a CEO who helped conceive a hit that ultimately grabbed my attention this year.
To Howard Schultz's family, friends and those at Lighthearted Entertainment, stay strong and I send out my condolences to you all. And to the Are You The One? casts, those who worked with him on a LHE show and everyone affected by this passing, stay strong also and honor his memory.

Putting episode 3 in Cliff Notes form, when we saw the group visit Millennium Park in downtown, we saw a continental divide emerge where the guys and Nicole are forming the Wolf Pack, while Sylvia, Violetta and Madison are the Kitty Kat pack. There was a lot of wild partying and hookups which led to all of this, including the emergence of a drunk alter-ego, Clarice is V's alias when she's having fun.
We saw Tony ring up Elizabeth, who's branded in his audition tape as his "girl back home", and had supposedly found out from web sources, rather than friends, that he had become close to Madison and other things. The guy who just followed me over the weekend stresses the situation he might get into similar to what we saw with Trey a couple years ago, and the girls take note of the chance people they don't like showing up.
The moment that opened many eyes was the battle between Jason and Violetta. There, after he cleared things up, we find out that Jay's not with the mom of his kid but have a promise in place to meet with his child especially with having never known his dad. So, you saw above the great words of respect everyone gave to him knowing that he will be a great dad/uncle to that new baby.
And of course, no Real World season would be complete without a few things: 1, the sight of somebody walking around naked; in this case, it's Jason who gets the roomies talking about his "Anaconda." 2, Seeing two girls making out among the many hookups we see during the season. And 3, seeing Bruno walk into the bathroom with local girl Carla and a few girls, head into the small vicinity of the toilet room and make out with no cameras to capture all that action.
As they took a chance to preview what they're capable of in kayaking in the Chicago River and then going on a dinner at the end, they know what's about to go down. In just over 24 hours, the skeletons are about to arrive in the Windy City with the first one to step foot in the next episode, just as we get set to head to Panama afterwards. Get ready to get more frequent flier miles between O'Hare and South America starting shortly, so pack up.

So, our congrats here at DCBLOG go out to two members of Team MTV on their New Year's New Girls: Teen Mom's Caitlynn Lowell and husband Tyler Baltierra on the birth of their new baby girl Nova Reign, and Are You The One? host Ryan Devlin and his wife on the addition of their new girl. I know you will be great parents to your bundle of joy, and you're not alone; I will be an uncle soon enough with one of my cousins just a week or two away from welcoming her new baby as well; my extended family will be welcoming a new addition just as the oldest person still alive in our family turned 94 this past weekend.
MTV Stories: KC Pride, and The Royal Treatment
Now back to Real World, Sylvia is the latest member of Team MTV to come to us by way of Kansas City. This is the latest installment of good fortune for her hometown, which has had it all good over the course of the past year or so. First, amidst CT winning his first Challenge on Rivals II last year, Wes won his 2nd title to add something good to his KC entrepreneur resume. Then, Sporting Kansas City took the 2013 MLS Cup, only the 2nd title that has been won by a KC pro sports team since 1985. Just after, Jenny would head onto Real World Ex-Plosion and was part of a triangle with fellow KC boyfriend Brian, and them making up too. And while Bananas & Laurel won Free Agents, Devyn stole the show by putting on an MVP performance of overcoming all obstacles and enduring an epic final to finish. And we can't forget Jake on House of Food too.
For the 100th DCBLOG post of 2014 that was posted here a few weeks ago, my first sports edition of The 'Pulse brought you the interaction of Game 7 of the 2014 World Series and perspective on the San Francisco Giants' road to their dynasty. There was also great salute to the Kansas City Royals and their unlikely run to the AL pennant and ultimately pushing the champions to the limit.
The Midwest has always been a sports hotbed, from KC being a longtime college sports hub to it being home to a great baseball city in St. Louis. And when both Landon Donovan and John Brooks scored their winning goals during the last two World Cups, scenes of celebration at KC's Power & Light District, its chief entertainment area, were seen everywhere.

Royals treatmentWhen Sylvia re-posted that letter shortly after the Series had ended, she wrote, "While living my short few months in Chicago people would always ask why I was so proud to be from Kansas City.... Well this is just 1 of the many reasons I love where I'm from!" The warmness of the fans there added a great story to what was a fantastic World Series, and though the Royals succumbed to the great performance of Madison Baumgartner, they sure gave it a great run, made their fans believers and won great respect for the city's hospitality too.
"I am a San Franciscan and a Giants fan who attended game six of the World Series in Kansas City.
Let me just say that never in my life have I enjoyed being so terribly outnumbered and, by evening's end, absolutely clubbed into submission.
From the moment I hit the parking lot at Kauffman Stadium in my Giants gear, folks made a point to walk over, introduce themselves, welcome us to Kansas City and wish us good luck. People offered us to buy us beer and brats.
Most mind-bending was the woman who apologized for the lopsided score.
My wife and our friends spent the better half of our flight home marveling at the generosity and warmth of the Royals fans and wondering whether we'd dropped into a parallel universe.
At some point, I recall announcing to my wide that I was prepared to move to Kansas City as soon as possible.
They refer to your part of the country as "flyover states." Folks should make a point to actually drop in to Kansas City for a heaping helping of an America most people only dream about."

Howard Schultz - 1953-2014
Schultz's passing comes a month after the deaths of Diem Brown and Ryan Knight, and nearly 11 years since the passing of fellow reality pioneer Mary Ellis-Bunim, Bunim-Murray Productions co-founder and Real World & Challenge co-creator. In this time of reflecting on them being part of the two casts that have won $1 million in the first two seasons of the show, the AYTO family have taken this loss hard as they looked at Howard as an inspiration, a mentor and a father figure to them, as well as a CEO who helped conceive a hit that ultimately grabbed my attention this year.
To Howard Schultz's family, friends and those at Lighthearted Entertainment, stay strong and I send out my condolences to you all. And to the Are You The One? casts, those who worked with him on a LHE show and everyone affected by this passing, stay strong also and honor his memory.
