As you all go back to work and to school following the long weekend and Winter Break, welcome on in to the Week 5 edition of DC SocialPulse for The Challenge: Battle of the Bloodlines. Over the weekend as many of you put away your Christmas decorations for another year or less, we brought you a Team MTV holiday special to put you in the holiday mood one more time. And as we settle into 2016, there is a whole new game in store as we've crossed the halfway point.
Previously in Challenge land on Christmas Eve Eve, the game changed quite considerably with two teams being sent home by way in injuries and a third being eliminated in a standard elimination. We also had the entry into the game of Cara Maria's boyfriend Abram as he & Mike entered to replace one of those two injured teams. And we saw veteran Aneesa confront rookie hookup Cory when she eavesdropped on a conversation with some harsh words.
Last week on New Year's Eve Eve, as a belated holiday gift to Challenge fans, we are offered two back-to-back episodes as a way for the big wigs to make it up to us for the past three episodes concluding without resolution. There, the same kind of house divide that we saw when the show last went to the same Bodrum, Turkey house three years ago emerges as that of the veterans and some hot-headed rookies comes to a showdown. We also see two veteran ladies getting into it at the club over one's allegiance and leading to some very unfortunate insults. And after a tense mission that saw one of the teams buckle under pressure, we witness yet another back-stab - this time by a veteran who knows this feeling all too well.
If you wanna relive all of this week's interaction or just catching up on it for the first time, then dig in. In the abbreviated lead-up for this week (due to the Christmas 'Pulse Extra), we'll also have some of the vibe in the last few days of 2015. So in the final two episodes of the MTV Trifecta for 2015, we saw KellyAnne and Aneesa get into words, Bananas pulling off a Sarah in voting in Nany, the veteran guys getting into it with the rookie boys and two eliminations that proved Mitch is in it for the long haul and reaffirmed KA as someone to keep an eye out for.
Of course, DC WRAP will review them for you either tomorrow (as we post this on Monday January 4th) or before Wednesday as we lead into what's sure to be another big week ahead in Challenge land. And the tweets from New Year's weekend will be part of a 'Pulse Extra that will be up next weekend.
Now to ExtraTime, and as MTV's 2016 slate kicks off with a busy week starting tonight, a chance for me to say thanks to my latest follower from one of those shows. It is a week that's headlined by tomorrow's season premiere of Teen Wolf (on Tuesdays this time around and not on Moon-days) followed by MTV's entry into fantasy land with the TV adaptation of the popular book franchise The Shannara Chronicles. And from the great Canadian foursome behind a favorite show of mine, The Buried Life, comes their new animated project, Greatest Party Stories Ever...and Other Epic Tales.
Tonight sees the season premiere of Teen Mom OG, and as was discussed previously here, I took up watching the series for the first time last year mainly because of me becoming an uncle countless number of times in the past eight years - the first one, a nephew of one of my cousins - turns that number this month. Seeing the situations they - and the TM 2 girls - go through makes the show relatable in a way to me because there's nothing like that great challenge of raising a kid (or being around kids on your house) and juggling that with other things in the busy lives they have. And also, TM OG took a cue from Real World's 29 and 30 of also integrating more of the production side into the episodes, bringing a new dimension to the shows the same way we've seen on the Trifecta as well.
Before last Wednesday's Challenge episodes aired here, I announced on DCNOW my recipient of the #DiemStrong Heart of A Lion Award as awarded on the Reality Debrief post - and named in honor of late Challenge icon Diem Brown, which was given to one of the four TM original girls, Amber Portwood. Recognizing that the reality TV world is more than just the three shows that I follow greatly and others I watch outside the Ecosystem, I had to think outside the box in some instances for the awards. And given how Amber's story from a prison sentence, drugs and life in the public eye led her to the abyss but making a great comeback to become a better person all around made it an easy choice for me to name her my recipient.
When Amber found out about the news, her response was, "Wow how generous.. thank you for the encouragement to move forward and persevere..sending all my love💜," and gave me a follow as well. Out of those we saw in 2015 (though as I wrote there, Bruno from RW Skeletons and Jordan from The Challenge were also considered by way of the former recovering from a bad car crash and the other overcoming a disability to win Exes 2 with Sarah), Amber personifies Diem's mantra of never giving up by using the time she was in jail to make a total 180 from the girl she was going in to becoming a totally new Amber when she was released, and has a fiance, lost weight, becoming an advocate and writing a book on that experience.
Amber, thanks for the kind words you gave me last week and for the follow. Looking forward to watching you, Maci, Catelynn and Farrah again this season.

So in the final two episodes of the MTV Trifecta for 2015, we saw KellyAnne and Aneesa get into words, Bananas pulling off a Sarah in voting in Nany, the veteran guys getting into it with the rookie boys and two eliminations that proved Mitch is in it for the long haul and reaffirmed KA as someone to keep an eye out for.
Of course, DC WRAP will review them for you either tomorrow (as we post this on Monday January 4th) or before Wednesday as we lead into what's sure to be another big week ahead in Challenge land. And the tweets from New Year's weekend will be part of a 'Pulse Extra that will be up next weekend.

Now to ExtraTime, and as MTV's 2016 slate kicks off with a busy week starting tonight, a chance for me to say thanks to my latest follower from one of those shows. It is a week that's headlined by tomorrow's season premiere of Teen Wolf (on Tuesdays this time around and not on Moon-days) followed by MTV's entry into fantasy land with the TV adaptation of the popular book franchise The Shannara Chronicles. And from the great Canadian foursome behind a favorite show of mine, The Buried Life, comes their new animated project, Greatest Party Stories Ever...and Other Epic Tales.
Tonight sees the season premiere of Teen Mom OG, and as was discussed previously here, I took up watching the series for the first time last year mainly because of me becoming an uncle countless number of times in the past eight years - the first one, a nephew of one of my cousins - turns that number this month. Seeing the situations they - and the TM 2 girls - go through makes the show relatable in a way to me because there's nothing like that great challenge of raising a kid (or being around kids on your house) and juggling that with other things in the busy lives they have. And also, TM OG took a cue from Real World's 29 and 30 of also integrating more of the production side into the episodes, bringing a new dimension to the shows the same way we've seen on the Trifecta as well.
Before last Wednesday's Challenge episodes aired here, I announced on DCNOW my recipient of the #DiemStrong Heart of A Lion Award as awarded on the Reality Debrief post - and named in honor of late Challenge icon Diem Brown, which was given to one of the four TM original girls, Amber Portwood. Recognizing that the reality TV world is more than just the three shows that I follow greatly and others I watch outside the Ecosystem, I had to think outside the box in some instances for the awards. And given how Amber's story from a prison sentence, drugs and life in the public eye led her to the abyss but making a great comeback to become a better person all around made it an easy choice for me to name her my recipient.
When Amber found out about the news, her response was, "Wow how generous.. thank you for the encouragement to move forward and persevere..sending all my love💜," and gave me a follow as well. Out of those we saw in 2015 (though as I wrote there, Bruno from RW Skeletons and Jordan from The Challenge were also considered by way of the former recovering from a bad car crash and the other overcoming a disability to win Exes 2 with Sarah), Amber personifies Diem's mantra of never giving up by using the time she was in jail to make a total 180 from the girl she was going in to becoming a totally new Amber when she was released, and has a fiance, lost weight, becoming an advocate and writing a book on that experience.
Amber, thanks for the kind words you gave me last week and for the follow. Looking forward to watching you, Maci, Catelynn and Farrah again this season.

And that will bring to an end this first DC SocialPulse episode diary of 2016. Note this is coming to you a little later than usual - normally I would post my Pulse journals over the weekend, but because of both New Year's and most especially both a cold & a headache I got over the holiday weekend. So in addition to doing this blog work, I've been taking it easy in getting better and taking the much needed rest I've had. Health is among those things that takes precedent over all others.
