It's the first 3-day holiday weekend of 2016 and on this MLK Day weekend, we bring you another edition of DC SocialPulse as we bring you the journal of Episode 8 of The Challenge Battle of the Bloodlines. We've had quite the season so far with plenty of drama on both the field and in the house, but this week provided us a chance for reflection amidst what we've endured up to this point.
Last week in Bodrum, Turkey, we had a great Challenge romance come into a rocky road as rumors of cheating by Cara Maria sent Abram into an emotional tailspin. That translated into a most intense elimination that saw his bloodline brother Michael beat Thomas' brother Stephen. We also had a tense After Show as well that saw this great relationship turn sour as well.
This week, the attention from a game standpoint turns to a 5-time champ and his worries that the strategy of trying to manipulate people is starting to get the best of him. And after what we saw with him a few weeks back, his actions have a huge impact on the week's outcome. But no matter who wins or loses, the week's overarching theme is on fallen Challengers Diem Brown and Ryan Knight with the cast being joined by CT and Diem's sister, Faith in tribute to them.

So, we had more of Bananas' manipulative antics take care of yet another fan favorite as well as a botched chance to throw a challenge dominate the game story. But when we look back on this week, it comes back to one of MTV's most inspiring people and her longtime love grabbing the spotlight and remind us of that great time in Challenge history. More on that below.
Now, with my attention turning to an upcoming NFL blog series here, I've decided to carry over the usual Things to Kmow review for this episode to next week to ease the weekly work load that I have ahead of me. Brief Thoughts on Diem

On Wednesday, we saw MTV bring on Diem's sister, Faith Brown - a TV news producer, and Diem's longtime love CT to help pay tribute to them before the competitors went into business. Their job was short but sweet in helping to demo the competition for everyone before the competitors went into battle. Obviously they didn't compete in the actual one, but just seeing the great Challenge beast and someone who knew Diem just as well as anyone else was something to see for the competitors.
When we saw Diem on The Duel nearly a decade ago, her first challenge since ovarian cancer for the first time, Diem had entered that week's mission having not taken off her wig in public and revealing the bald head she had while she was in chemotherapy and of her cancer now in remission. She had relented at first from competing, but at last minute she decided to take part and that moment is still in everyone's memory bank of her persevering to not only compete but also win that day. Because of me having not been a huge Challenge follower until fairly recently in 2012, it was only before Rivals II and her appearing there that I got my first glimpse of her on these shows and of watching that iconic moment as well.

I do echo with Andrew Kirk in that it was a great gesture of bringing Faith Brown and CT onto this episode to recognize her late sister and Knight, knowing very well the theme of family that's been prevalent on this season. There's obviously no greater icon to this generation of fans of The Challenge and Real World franchise than Diem, and there's no greater love story perhaps in the nearly 25-year relationship MTV and show producer Bunim-Murray Productions have documented than her and CT. This family-oriented season could not have been complete without giving a nod to them and the great romance they provided that remains one of the greatest stories that MTV has brought to us.
That will bring to an end this week's 'Pulse as I get back to work on my NFL series and work on the Wrap as well. That will be up tomorrow, or perhaps later tonight, with just Winners of the Night, more fan reaction, the launch of Real World Go Big and a Team MTV reunion.
