On January 11th - a week from tonight, Season 5 of Are You The One? will commence in the Dominican Republic with everything we come to expect from the Trifecta with the big time drama, great people and high stakes, plus the romantic matchmaking and dating fest this show is known for. That memorable first season and cast three years ago more than set the tone for the three seasons that followed: the 11th girl on Season 2, a Season 3 cast that's made quite a splash since then, and everything that occurred last summer on Season 4. All four casts have something in common: at least one couple have emerged out of each season as a romantic couple who are still together today, and the group as a whole went 10 for 10 and won the jackpot on offer: as much as $1 million.
Now, AYTO Season 5 awaits us with the show's largest cast at 22 cast members in total and a lot to live up to, as we speed towards premiere night next Wednesday. DCBLOG will once again be here to document the entire journey of the group we will fittingly call on here Team 22 from this preseason preview one week out, right through the final match-up ceremony during the springtime. And ahead, we'll be previewing what's awaiting us in the Caribbean, and introduce you to the 11 girls and 11 guys who are anxious to hook up, have fun and fight for love and money in the D.R. To say the least, it's will be a full house and should be a season full of love, lust, jealousy and drama.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS
First, we start it all off, in the usual fashion of this site, with our site's signature feature. DCBLOG is the only place anywhere for the buzz from social land of the casts as they watch the episodes through the Twitter sphere. DC SocialPulse will have all the action, reaction and interaction of all the episodes as the cast sees it covered on here each weekend to begin our weekly posts, just a few days after it first airs on MTV in the United States... Yes, for international fans it does include spoilers, but rest assured, all the action on here after you get to see it where you live. MEET THE CAST, AND WHAT TO EXPECT
Following in what we've seen on Real World Bad Blood in them having a larger cast than usual, the Season 5 cast is AYTO's largest-ever group: the roll call for this class numbers in at 22, two more than the usual total of 20 and one more than the 21 castmates we had on Season 2, headlined by of course the 11th girl, Christina. With 22 now holding occupancy in this mansion, it now means that if the cast wants to win the $1 million on offer should they run the table, the new number they have to shoot for now is 11 for 11, rather than 10 for 10 -- though it will still take ten tries for them to win.
As R-Dev likes to note, the beauty of this game of love is that anything can happen: four times has the casts of the past three seasons been hit with a blackout at the matchup, and the last two times of the group achieving no lights has resulted in the group losing $250,000 from their $1 million bounty. In all four instances, the group came roaring back to win the money in the 10th and last matchup, and in that first season, the originals did them all one better, winning in 9 tries. Unlike The Challenge, this can end at any time, and of course getting all the beams lit is the goal our cast has in their mind.
As in seasons past, our group of those single and ready to mingle have been picked from all over America for a shot at finding their perfect match, the one of the dreams and winning money if their 11:11 wish is granted. From a former college basketball player and a lively Brazilian, to a Filipino beauty and a model from New England, these 22 people -- 11 girls & 11 guys -- all have had checkered pasts in their love lives. They're all hopeful now that they can live up to what their predecessors -- perhaps they could join them in the winners' circle, or be the first to go home empty-handed, though our hope is for the first option to come true in the Dominican Republic.
As we now introduce you to the singles, again we'll be going through the entire roster alphabetically -- and for the first time include their last names as well, so we can it made easy for you to search and follow them on their social media accounts, linked to their Twitter handles where available, so you can follow them on there (or follow me @DC408Dxtr for my Follow Friday cast sweep).
♥ ALICIA Wright: From a small town not far away from the Jersey Shore, Alicia bears the weight of having a strong sense of responsibility: growing up she was a babysitter to her siblings. Right now, she's currently working at a veterinary hospital but, just as it was for Jasmine of Season 2, has aspirations on becoming a dentist. It's being able to deal and control people that's enabled her to have a head strong way of things that most guys aren't able to handle, and Alicia thinks she's simply "too much of a challenge" to men. Now will she let her guard down to let someone see who she is.
♥ ANDRE Siemers: At first look, Andre would be that budding rapper from Minneapolis who aims to make his name known after this season ends. But deep inside when not making beats, he has a business to fall back on, and enjoys the Minnesota wilderness going camping, hunting and fishing. It's quite a diverse resume Dre has as he enjoys having being able to connect with all kinds of people. But that gift he has of being people-friendly hasn't shielded him from being hurt also, particularly after what happened with his ex. It's his tough hip-hop persona that's now protecting his wounded heart, and will there be a girl who can let his match see who he is?
♥ CAROLINA Duarte: Back on Season 2, we met the lively Brazilian Jessica... now a fellow Latina is following in her footsteps in São Paulo native Carolina, who now calls Seattle her casa and still has that fire of telling it like it is both in Portuguese and English. She is very honest and loves to be herself, and is fearless of anyone...except herself where she's afraid of being left alone. Because of that, she often misses her guy's mistakes in order to try to make it work and let them take advantage of her. Carolina hopes that she can be comfortable with herself in her attempt to find true love in the Caribbean.
♥ CASANDRA "CAS" Martinez: Hailing from outside Houston, Casandra is known on Instagram as "Crank That Cas." She's always been spoiled by both her parents and the guys she dates. Used to getting what she wants, it's always given Cas that mindset of always searching for who the next one is out there. But in that quest for the right guy, it's given her the same result: ending up with guys who have serious flaws in every category. It's very much the same thing when it comes to how he dates: when a girl catches his eye, Derrick immediately lets her know he's interested in her. But despite all efforts, he doesn't commit and lets her get away, and now he feels it's time to settle down. Derrick's New Years resolution lately has been trying to find a girlfriend... He hopes this will finally be the time.
♥ EDWARD Williams: Emulating from outside Philly, Edward is enjoying his picture-perfect career as a model. He has a clear idea of what he wants in life, plus a charm and a good work ethic to follow through on those plans. So, it's hard to think why he's single: Eddie's flirtatious, carries himself with a sexual confidence most girls see as him being a player, instantly being labeled as untrustworthy. Trust has become a big deal for him, but that hasn't stopped him from sometimes stepping out of his comfort zone. Now the goal is to change his player image to meet his match in the Caribbean.
♥ GIANNA Hammer: On Season 1, we met Ohio girl Ashleigh... Now, someone from Believeland has made their way to the AYTO house in sweet country tom-boy Gianna. But she's actually full of intensity than what her looks would suggest: she goes for what she wants, and then hangs on too tight that some guys decide it's too much for them. Truth be told, her intensity is what protects her from deep insecurities. But Gianna does give up even when it's obvious that she should move on from a guy. So, can she find out that the best relationship is just relax and take time instead of hanging on?
♥ HANNAH Fugazzi: On Season 3, a slice of Italy came to AYTO by way of funny man Zak. Now (and in an irony of sharing the same first name as his girlfriend), Bay Area resident Hannah comes to the D.R. and despite her surname meaning "fake" in Italian slang she's as real and honest. She has a very large amount of confidence, and when it comes to going for guys, Hannah goes in head first and sprints out fast. But her relationships tire out soon enough, and when she finds a flaw in one guy, she's onto the the next one. Now the challenge for her is to slow down and not overlook a nice guy here.
♥ HAYDEN Weaver: Growing up in a cornfield house on the outskirts of Indianapolis, Hayden likes to be someone who lives on the edge. But his comfort zone in being from a small town has left this hardcore hoops fan with no game whatsoever. He feels so awkward and confused that if he's texting a girl he wants to make sure his buddies just to make sure she's actually interested in him. Hayden has a goal to find the right girl, get married and have kids sooner than later, but he knows that getting to that first move is more important in order to reach that ultimate goal. Will that girl be in the house?
♥ JAYLAN Adlam: Atlanta native Jaylan is tall, ripped and an former football player, yet he's humble and free of having that "player" tendency those of his stature might have. But he still thinks of himself as that nerdy and awkward teenager who's not had much experience how to attract the girls. It's also Jay's strong sense of humor and kind nature that seen him get caught friend zoned. Now, will he finally reverse course to not second guess himself and look for one who will appreciate him for who he is aside from the humor? Perhaps there's one in the house for the man they call "Juice."
♥ JOEY Amoia: From the Buffalo area, Joey is that alpha male who's also old school and blue collar, and one the girls like. Though he aces getting their attention, being in a small city the choices of girls are limited and always rotate like musical chairs. Besides that, the thing that's hampered Joey's quest for his ideal girl is his inability to make it work in the long-term. After things broke off with his high school girlfriend, he has resorted to crude humor and a player personality to protect himself, but has kept girls at a distance. Now, will he get serious and get that girl?
♥ KAM Williams: A Jamaican native who now resides outside Philly, Kam is a flight attendant - which means she isn't in one place for too long, which is very much true when it comes to love. She keeps plenty of guys in her options, which has seen her earn a reputation for being a player. But truth be told, Kam has been fearful of getting hurt and she likes to break hearts instead of having the other way around happen to her. So much so, that when a relationship begins to get serious, she decides to bail out. Now, the hope is for Kam.I.Am is to find that one.
♥ KARI Kowalski: Kari has two jobs to put 110% in: by day she's studying to become a doctor, by night and weekend she has a cool job working in New York City's vibrant fashion industry. And she's also gotten to hang out with Cafish's Nev Schulman. But that doesn't translate into success in finding a guy to spend time with when she's not busy at work or school. Her confidence is something she's earned over time, but when it comes to trying to be better than those around her, the guys just seem to not have it. Will Kari take time to become humble and to find the guy who can recognize her overall?

The thing here is, Mike doesn't want those legions of South Florida girls to line up to date to date him, and only has eyes for those he can't have. He's addicted so much to the chase that the girls who do excite him are those who don't have that much interest in the end -- not the vision in mind for true love. His goal: find someone he can enjoy for longer than just a date.
♥ MIKE Cerasani: Staten Island native Mike knows that he looks good, something that a lot of women agree with. He's quick to grab a girl's attention, but once he wakes up with them in bed the next morning he finds out that the one he's slept with isn't the lady he wants to build a relationship with - and key to any relationship is for both parties to get to know each other over time. Mike feels the pain of being in the usual syndrome of being a player that has seen him go nowhere fast many times. Now, will he stop being a player and let a girl see the true Mike?
♥ OSVALDO Romero: SoCal is a welcome relief for Chicago native Osvaldo, who grew up in one of the Second City's toughest neighborhoods and having to live in between the territories of rival gangs. He's also had to endure personal hardship being a prime target for bullying in being overweight. But when Osvaldo became friends with hot girls, even the tough guys wanted to become friends with him too. He's now grown up and developed the looks of a heartthrob, but is still the same nice guy you'd take home to mom. But it's his good heart that's seen him get rejected by girls many a time. For this nerdy kid at heart, he comes to The DR looking to find someone who won't break his heart this time.
♥ OZZY Morales: One time, Ozzy had eyes on being a soccer superstar in his native Costa Rica, only for that dream to take a backseat when he moved with his dad in pursuit of a new beginning in America. Because of him moving around often -- currently residing in The O.C., he's had his fair share of long-distance relationships and has since strayed away from having to live far away from his girls. Ozzy blames his long-term love troubles on this problem of geography, but while he loves being in love he's been having difficulty with commitment. As he returns south of the border, the question is of if he will find love, and not have to deal with just the issue of distance?
♥ SHANNON Duffy: Standing just five feet tall, Philippines native and SoCal resident Shannon is proof good things call in small packages and someone to be reckoned with. When her last serious relationship ended badly, Shannon felt so heartbroken that she questioned if love even existed. But with having renewed confidence in her love life, Shannon feels inspired by those events to find the right guy. But when the opportunity does come for guys to meet her, her way being domineering turns them away. Now will she finally get the chance to meet someone who can both stand up and be perfect for her?
♥ TAYLOR Selfridge: By day, beautiful and sweet Taylor is a teacher's aide, but by night this Seattle native becomes one who can have a cold one with friends. That attitude has certainly helped him, and that has brought Tyler's talents to sunny Florida, where he enjoys a successful modeling career. Now, he's gotta get real if he wants to find real love.

He's quick to grab a girl's attention, but once he wakes up with them in bed the next morning he finds out that the one he's slept with isn't the lady he wants to build a relationship with - and key to any relationship is for both parties to get to know each other over time. Mike feels the pain of being in the usual syndrome of being a player that has seen him go nowhere fast many times. Now, will he stop being a player and let a girl see the true Mike?
♥ OSVALDO Romero: SoCal is a welcome relief for Chicago native Osvaldo, who grew up in one of the Second City's toughest neighborhoods and having to live in between the territories of rival gangs. He's also had to endure personal hardship being a prime target for bullying in being overweight. But when Osvaldo became friends with hot girls, even the tough guys wanted to become friends with him too. He's now grown up and developed the looks of a heartthrob, but is still the same nice guy you'd take home to mom. But it's his good heart that's seen him get rejected by girls many a time. For this nerdy kid at heart, he comes to The DR looking to find someone who won't break his heart this time.
♥ OZZY Morales: One time, Ozzy had eyes on being a soccer superstar in his native Costa Rica, only for that dream to take a backseat when he moved with his dad in pursuit of a new beginning in America. Because of him moving around often -- currently residing in The O.C., he's had his fair share of long-distance relationships and has since strayed away from having to live far away from his girls. Ozzy blames his long-term love troubles on this problem of geography, but while he loves being in love he's been having difficulty with commitment. As he returns south of the border, the question is of if he will find love, and not have to deal with just the issue of distance?
♥ SHANNON Duffy: Standing just five feet tall, Philippines native and SoCal resident Shannon is proof good things call in small packages and someone to be reckoned with. When her last serious relationship ended badly, Shannon felt so heartbroken that she questioned if love even existed. But with having renewed confidence in her love life, Shannon feels inspired by those events to find the right guy. But when the opportunity does come for guys to meet her, her way being domineering turns them away. Now will she finally get the chance to meet someone who can both stand up and be perfect for her?
♥ TAYLOR Selfridge: By day, beautiful and sweet Taylor is a teacher's aide, but by night this Seattle native becomes one who can have a cold one with friends. Most guys see her as a total catch, but not so when you ask the blonde. Taylor's insecurities and lack of self-doubt have guarded her from having the necessary confidence to see the flaws in any of her relationships, which in turn has led her to just try took hard with the wrong guys. Taylor will have to learn that if he wants a man who wants her, she has to first fight for herself.
♥ TYLER O’Brien: You'll think that if you take his beard away, Tyler would be the twin brother of Drew from The Chainsmokers, the guy who sings "Closer." But beneath Tyler's nice looks is a guy who grew up in the mean streets of South Boston, and developed a persona to "fake it 'till you make it" to get through tough times in his life. That attitude has certainly helped him, and that has brought Tyler's talents to sunny Florida, where he enjoys a successful modeling career. However, that motto hasn't applied well to when he wants some company in paradise, and past instances have seen him lead girls on and becoming a heartbreaker. Now, he's gotta get real if he wants to find real love.
♥ TYRANNY Todd: Back on Season 3, we had a girl from Augusta, GA -- home of golf's Masters tournament in Britni, who's still together with Chuck. Now, another person is coming to AYTO from that town in Tyranny, who's gorgeous and charming, and is eyeing to being one day becoming a judge. However, with all that she's got going for herself, her relationships have not gone the same direction: numerous infidelities and betrayals have plagued her. Tyranny's dating history has no doubt formed a strong guard around her heart, but she still wants nothing more than to be in a loving relationship. Now, will she be vulnerable enough to let her match into her heart?
WELCOME TO TEAM MTV
Now, to the cast... If you and I haven't talked yet, "Welcome to Team MTV" and get yourselves comfortable for the ride you are all about to embark on. You all filmed this season a little while ago and had some R&R after you got home, but now the real show has just begun. There's nothing like the anticipation you have for this season...all the talk, hype and buzz culminates in a week from now. With MTV's promotion & publicity machine bringing this thing to the masses, watching the awesome SnapChat stories I've watched since the countdown to this season began, and yes that billboard in Times Square, now it's starting to sink in to all of you that this is gonna be a fantastic ride.I've been fortunate to have followed Are You The One? for the entire journey, starting with before Season 1 started airing three years ago, and I'm one of the show's biggest fans. I look forward to talking and interacting to all 22 of you socially as this season rolls along, as well as covering it for this DCBLOG site. I'm not alone: I know some of you also got to meet him back on New Year's Eve in New York, and fellow fan Big Dave @BigTymers228 shares this anticipation we have for next week, as are webcast hosts and followers of mine Andrew Kirk, Ali Lasher and Brian Cohen. Those three look forward to discussing AYTO and having you on their shows during this season.
To Alicia, Andre, Carolina, Casandra, Derrick, Edward, Gianna, Hannah, Hayden, Jaylan, Joey, Kam, Kari, Kathryn, Michael, Mike, Osvaldo, Ozzy, Shannon, Taylor, Tyler and Tyranny: good luck to all of you...you've all got my support.
