Welcome back again on this Thanksgiving weekend... Back on Black Friday, we focused on the finale of The Challenge XXX and the premiere of Champs vs. Stars, with one person being the focus for unfortunate reasons. Earlier today, we looked at Week 10 of Are You The One? NOLA, and tomorrow night it's the premiere of the new revival of an old favorite in Floribama Shore - the Southern reboot of Jersey Shore. Now, with a recap of the former still ahead, for a moment let's take a 180 and bring you the one post of this week's wave that is sure to offer plenty of tea.

Ordinarily - as we wrote a few weeks ago, it's our vision here at DCBLOG to focus our attention to the shows we are covering and those that are airing currently, and the stories that go along with them too. We don't use this site much for discussing rumors on future seasons of The Challenge or any other series that feeds castmates into the fifth major pro sport until the moment the buzz for those seasons begin. And only when we feel it is necessary do we get to discuss future matters if we consider it big enough of a deal that we should talk about it here.
With that in mind - and with a long Challenge season having just ended, another one wrapping taping overseas and the one in between those two now airing, something has been brewing around the MTV hotstove in the past week or so. But instead of talking about who is potentially being cast for a show we love to cover here and you love to watch as much as I do, this one is for something totally different - at least to the American audience. But if you're one of those who visit our great site from outside the United States, then it's likely that you have heard of the show that resembles what happened when San Francisco hosted the total reinvention of the OG of reality TV.
The very idea of what happened in the very first Real World season we covered here in Ex-Plosion three years ago and what premiered shortly after in the first season of Are You The One? offers the backdrop for this special edition of DC FORUM, where we'll a look at MTV's international dating series, Ex On The Beach, and our thoughts on the new U.S. version of the show that's currently in production right now, and featuring some very familiar faces. You'll want to join us after the jump for all of the juicy details.

In our FORUM Special on the rumored cast of Season 31 of The Challenge last month, we discussed the casting choices being tossed around involving those outside what we here call the MTV Trifecta. In case you're not familiar with that code name, it's this site's term of branding the slate of MTV's reality series of The Challenge, Are You The One? and Real World, and for which this site offers wall-to-wall blog coverage of those three shows and a few others. Regardless of whether you follow one or all three, they all have that same special brand of reality TV only MTV has in big-time drama, exciting competition and plenty of hookups.
In this instance of Season 31 casting and with it taking place in Europe, MTV decided to look outside of the box and to shows outside the Trifecta. First, the show went across the former Viacom way and brought in two members of last year's cast of Big Brother, supposedly to allow two from The Challenge take up occupancy in this coming winter's Celebrity Big Brother house, airing on CBS. There are rumors swirling around someone like Johnny Bananas might next make his next TV series that show after what we have seen from him on The Challenge all these years.
And for the other casting decision, MTV looked to give a few people who are relatively unknown in America a chance to conquer the final frontier en route to world domination. Five people from two of MTV's overseas reality franchises that air on its international channels outside the U.S. were selected to join the big-name veterans and those we've become familiar with from each of the three Trifecta series to compete on The Challenge 31, entitled Vendettas. One of those series is the U.K. adaptation of Jersey Shore, Geordie Shore, while the other is the focus of this special post. For its story, we must rewind a few years.

At the time this site began covering the MTV world in summer 2013, Bunim-Murray Productions thought of a way to help reinvigorate a show they had pioneered back some twenty years earlier in The Real World. The show was still revolutionary and integrated the usual big time drunken drama to its old school style, but it had been overtaken in terms of prominence by The Challenge, Jersey Shore and other MTV shows as well as other reality series on other channels that stole that thunder.
To keep the series alive, BMP thought of one idea for Season 29: have the seven roommates come onto the show with the premise that it would be a typical Real World season with nothing to worry about. But then, a month into that season in San Francisco, one weekend the roommates were whisked off on a getaway trip while production did two things in secrecy. First, they had workers come into their house to add beds to the roommates' bedrooms, and producers made calls to the roommates' exes to fly into the Bay Area to stir up some drama.
The rest became history in that it became Real World Ex-Plosion. For one couple from Kansas City, Jenny had to witness her roommate Cory and her ex Brian having a "bro-apocalypse" before the jealousy finally saw the two guys get into a late season fight and eventually saw Jenny not only get back together with Brian but also become mommy & daddy. There was also a love triangle that saw tennis-playing Texan Thomas find himself in the middle of one among him, his Dallas ex Hailey and Houston roommate Jamie. And had it not been for original Jay, we may not have heard of his ex Jenna and her becoming a Challenge Barbie Beast.
A few months after both RW Ex-Plosion and the first season of Are You The One? debuted in the U.S., MTV's overseas channels outside America began airing a bold new reality series that took the idea of what Real World Ex-Plosion would unleash on the Cali roommates, but also brought its own style and flavor. Instead of a big city, that show would take place in a more tropical setting on the beach, and while not a competition show nonetheless would bring the idea of love that reverberated in the Bay Area and Hawaii, and brought it to a new level.

The result was Ex On The Beach. Show producers Whizz Kid Productions provided a synopsis of the show on its website"MTV’s hot reality dating show promises the ultimate real-life soap opera as ex-couples are brought back together…in Ex on the Beach. When eight single guys and girls arrive on a sun-soaked beach looking for a holiday romance… what they don’t expect is for their ex’s to turn up one by one. Whether the Ex wants to win their partners back, exact revenge or get closure on ‘unfinished’ business… there will be fireworks and compulsive drama throughout: from exes whose break-up was so painful and ugly they’ve never spoken since, and the ‘bunny-boiler’ exes who won’t let their former beau move on – to those whose love has the potential to blossom again, it’s set to be one very long summer…"
An MTV Press Release further added the very premise of the series: "The series involves eight single men and women being invited to enjoy a luxury holiday in the belief they are being set up for a holiday romance. Instead, as MTV cameras follow their every move, certain ex-boyfriends and girlfriends of cast members arrive unexpectedly with no-one knowing ‘whose ex will be next’. Each ‘ex’ will have a different motive for appearing, from winning their partner back to exacting revenge after a break-up." And according to an MTV UK executive, "MTV’s young viewers can't get enough of reality shows that reflect their experiences and aspirations with attitude and humour. We're always on the look-out for the next big idea in the genre and Ex on the Beach really grabbed our attention as a brilliant, fun and dramatic format. I know our audience will love it."
Ex On The Beach has become a big hit for MTV U.K., having aired seven seasons of it when it began airing in spring 2014, and an eighth is planned for the new year for those across the pond. Notable castmates of the series' run include Geordie Shore's Vicky and co-star & ex Ricci on Season 1, then followed by fellow Geordie stars Charlotte and Gary on Season 2, Scotty T. on Season 4, Aaron on Season 6, and plus those from other British reality series such as Beauty School Cop-Outs. Three members of the EOTB Season 2 cast, Rogan, Kayleigh and Melissa, are the ones rumored to be part of that Vendettas cast, along with Geordie star Kyle.  And some of the cast have not appeared on Geordie but would also go on to be on Celebrity Big Brother U.K.

As MTV in the U.S. looks to builds upon a strong 2nd half that has led the channel to increased ratings after retooling its schedule to feature bold new series, going back into the past to reintroduce genres it reinvented to new fans like the sexy Siesta Key and the new TRL, and doubling down on established franchises like The Challenge, it's no surprise MTV has looked to its overseas cousins to bring the idea of shows they developed there to the U.S.
The immense success of the Shore franchise overseas no doubt influenced MTV to revive that concept back home, and it was that in mind that influence both their Challenge 31 casting choice and this move to bring Ex to the U.S.  As for the first installment of Ex on the Beach in the States, they have enlisted the man who we have been seeing on Champs vs. Stars, Romeo Miller - "Lil Romeo" - to serve as the show's host, or at best the voice of the show, which is taking place in Hilo, Hawaii on the big island of our 50th state. And the cast is one that brings together not only those from the MTV ecosystem but also those from other reality series.
When I first immersed myself socially into this MTV world, Real World St. Thomas had all but one of their roommates get paired up from the start, so did a few others in past and succeeding seasons of that show. And of course, there are the many couples who we've seen on AYTO or on other series who we have made love on camera and perhaps make their plea to join TJ and friends for Exes 3. And it would be easy that they would be logical choices for this new voyage. And there are a lot of worthy candidates thanks to what we have seen in recent memory in the Trifecta.
But to be part of this cast, it would be a great pleasure to be one of those eight singles to take up residency knowing that sun, sand and surf would be the order of the day along with possibly some sex. But of course, they have no idea that the exes will be coming in, but instead of them all making their way in at once, just like on RW Skeletons they'll be brought in one by one, just as we saw with Tony's exes Alyssa and Elizabeth coming in one week, then Madison's ex the next.  Obviously, they will be in for the time of their lives and the most tense time of their lives too.

According to some of the sites that have compiled all the info (including, yes - Vevmo), below are the rumored cast for Ex on the Beach U.S., and the cast not includes those from the Trifecta, but also Big Brother 18, Bad Girls Club and The Bachelor. Of course, we'll have more info on the cast and this list will continue to be be updated after this is being posted for the first time on Sunday, November 26th.

THE RUMORED CAST
ANDRE (AYTO 5)
 TAYLOR (AYTO 5)
CAMERON (AYTO 5 and Second Chances)
CORY (RW29 and The Challenge)
CHASE (The Bachelorette 2016)
 ● SKYLER (Chase's ex)
DERRICK H. (AYTO 5/The Challenge)
 ● ANGELA (Bad Girls Club: Twisted Sisters/Derrick's ex)
 MARCO (model, and Jasmine's ex)
ALICIA (Are You The One? Season 5)
PAULIE (Big Brother: Season 18)
 ● ALEXIS/"LEXI" (Paulie's ex)
 TOR'I (former U.S. track athlete)
 JASMINE (The Bachelor 21)
SHANLEY (AYTO 1 and Second Chances)

Our view of this? Well, I might not be familiar much with Ex on the Beach right now, but the concept will be one that those who are used to what they have been seeing in the Trifecta will no doubt embrace this new show. And from having seen clips on YouTube the past few days of what has happened on the seven seasons of its original U.K. version, there will sure be a lot of fireworks thanks to the cast, their past histories, and the twists that will come their way just as soon as they get settled in paradise. And if you thought what happened on Ex-Plosion was something, then being on Ex On The Beach will no doubt leave everyone on the edge.
Cory will no doubt be used to this by now, but with this format he will no doubt tell the rest of the house what to expect with these exes coming in each week, and when we saw his ex Lauren come as did the rest of the exes it made for some exciting television once both the originals and exes were under the same roof. For Taylor, the feeling of having Andre in the house again will be something to keep an eye out, and for Cameron there's the possibility that his ex, Mikala, may come over to rekindle things after their bad breakup after Second Chances. Who knows what Alicia might have up her sleeve after what we saw from her earlier this year? And there's the new dynamic those from other reality series might bring to the MTV crowd for the first time.

As they say, stay tuned. And for a quick teaser of what might go down, here's the original promo for Ex On The Beach from when it premiered in 2014, and both a promo and extended clip from the first episode of Season 7 from earlier this year.

CONGRATS SALWA

Before we leave you for now, somewhat brief but more life changing news for Team MTV... but as we say, this one from someone you might've forgotten about but we do here.
Had it not been for the tragic death of Shain Gandee, then the West Virginia-based series Buckwild would still be on-air by now. But one of those who were on that show has just announced that they are becoming a parent. That one is Salwa, the lady of African heritage who was on that cast and since that show's untimely cancellation has found herself in trouble with the law a few times, but also had a chance to meet up with Kiki of Season 3 when her AYTO season was airing.
Just yesterday on Instagram, Salwa announced with a picture of a sonogram that she is about to become a mom -- the first in her cast to become a parent. Our congrats go out to her.

Tomorrow, we'll be turning back to The Challenge as the WRAP will be focusing on the finale of Dirty 30 and this entire 30th season, featuring Cory and Team Chocolate. And in a few days, DCBLOG will take you to a place no other site can take you: Inside the Reunion with one of the show's biggest fans... it's a late change in schedule from being planned to be posted here this weekend because of my subject being on vacation and this bonus Forum post.
Meanwhile, in continuation of this exes theme of sorts, tomorrow be sure to join my friend Andrew Kirk (@CSUGradAKirk) as he talks to the girl who was spotted in the VIP section on the Dirty 30 Reunion but has her own story of falling in love and getting her heart broken. The bad blood counterpart of Robbie from Real World Bad Blood and the ex of Magic Mike's frenemy Peter, Jennifer, will join Andrew, tomorrow night on Big Time Reality TV on his YouTube channel. And if the Twitter argument she had with her ex tonight is something, you will want to join them then.
For now, hope you enjoyed your long holiday weekend, and see you back here tomorrow as our trip Inside the MTV Trifecta continues. Enjoy the week ahead.
