When it comes to the original aspect of our DCBLOG MTV coverage, there are varying lengths to the unique part of our wide-ranging palette of content known as ExtraTime. It can be a well-told story involving memorable moments from the shows you love, or offering a look at the fascinating people who are the stars of it all. And there's the fun part: people from around the world, from pop culture and newsmakers who get to meet these people.
For this latest 'Gram scan: several items of note worthy enough to have its own post -- two of them involve something that took place over the weekend down in Miami at American sports' biggest bash, and a possible next future Challenge alliance all formed by the feeling that love knows no boundaries.
MEET THE MVP
On Sunday night, Super Bowl LIV pitted the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers in what was billed as a matchup between a star quarterback on the rise and a franchise that hasn't been to the final game of the NFL season in 50 years, against a complete team who overcame a tough period of mediocrity to become a power again. And for the first three quarters, it was a performance by the NFC champions, QB Jimmy Garoppolo and its defense, who looked poised to become the third team to win six Lombardi Trophies.
But in the 4th quarter with the Niners holding a 20-10 lead, it was a whole different story: Texas Tech alum Patrick Mahomes, who had a stellar first season in the starting job the previous season (5,000+ passing yards and 50 TD's in 2018) and won the league MVP award, and his Chiefs turned it on when it mattered most: being behind by double digits in the postseason as it was in their two AFC playoff games at home in Arrowhead Stadium. With nine minutes left, Mahomes led two lengthy drives with key long completions to Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins, and touchdown passes to Travis Kelce and Damien Williams to put KC ahead and ultimately win, 31-20 after 21 unanswered points.
His 26-for-42, 286 yard night, which also included a rushing touchdown in the first half, was enough for Mahomes to be named the youngest player to ever win Super Bowl MVP at 24 years & 138 days. Before this season, he appeared on the cover of the Madden NFL 20 video game... usually a sign of bad things to come, but after a small knee injury he became the first to win a Super Bowl after that preseason designation in extinguishing the Madden Cover Curse, as KC became the first to come back from 10 down three times in January & February to hoist football's biggest prize.

'Toya posted a picture on Instagram of her and Patrick posing for the camera when they met up in Orlando at the 2019 Pro Bowl, a consolation prize after his Chiefs fell short to Tom Brady and the Patriots in the 2018 AFC Championship at home in OT. She captioned, "It was just last year that we had no idea you would be a SuperBowl Champ this year🏆🏈 💪🏽👏🏽 #patrickmahomes #kansascity #superbowlchamps." And Vegas oddsmakers have the Chiefs as morning line favorites to repeat, which is good news to Challenge king Wes and the rest who are part of the Kingdom.
And along with this, Twitter posts were discovered of something the new king of the NFL had in mind: for decades it's always been a tradition for those who win the Super Bowl to appear in a commercial by Disney Parks that would ask, "You've just won the Super Bowl. What are you gonna do next?" Patrick envisioned a trip to Disney World after the Ravens' SB XLVII victory (also over the 49ers) just seven years ago, and he rode a float yesterday up the way in Orlando realizing that dream he had in 140 characters or less, just as National Anthem performer Demi Lovato had of one day doing the Star Spangled Banner before the Super Bowl.
I bet it feels amazing to be the quarterback who says "I'm going to Disney World" after winning the Super Bowl #Qbs— Patrick Mahomes II (@PatrickMahomes) February 6, 2013

JULIA & TANA K-I-I-S-I-N-G...
As it was the epicenter of the sporting world over the weekend, it was no surprise that Miami and South Beach were THE hubs of American nightlife last week. Hundreds of thousands descended upon South Florida and its many nightclubs for the Super Bowl hoopla, including a few MTV'ers such as EOTB Season 3'ers Shannon, Anthony and Cameron, and Juliette of Siesta Key (who had tickets to the big game itself) joining Challenger & SFL local Josh Martinez on his home turf.
Also in Miami, two of those who have made some headlines in the course of the past several months got to enjoy a moment - and both have ties to the man who once invited an MTV mom to be for some winter fun at his house. On Friday night, YouTuber Jake Paul returned to the boxing ring, this time as a professional in his first official fight, after a white-collar bout which he won on a TKO on the undercard of the first match between brother Logan and rival YouTuber KSI. This time, Jake was the top attraction (albeit, a co-feature to a fight between pros Demetrius Andrade and Luke Keller) that was again streamed on DAZN, and where he faced off against YouTuber AnEsonGib. It took all of 2:18 for him to take care of Gib in a first round TKO, perhaps shutting down rumors of him not being a legit fighter thanks to that stoppage.

Tana and Julia had the opportunity to share a moment together on Twitter after they saw the former's (for now) ex had his fight and before rumors began to spread of their potential reunion. The AYTO alum tweeted a picture with the caption, "so like wanna get married or... @tanamongeau".

A NEW LOVE ALLIANCE?
IG @MaxGentile |
Last week, two of those who were part of that legacy were spotted on Instagram working out together: Max Gentile of AYTO 8 - part of the season's biggest couple of him and Justin Palm, and Tyler Garrigus, himself an ex on EOTB Season 3 to Billy Reilich, bartender at the West Hollywood's Abbey bar. Max captioned below, "Working to get [financially] fit with my boy @thetylercharles. Thank you for the shoes, workout and smoothies !" Maybe, a new Challenge alliance is in the making here?
