Hi, hello, what's up and welcome to the season finale edition of DC SocialPulse - Are You The One? Season 2. Back on VMA Night, we kicked off the countdown to the sequel of this great social experiment with the question of, "How will season 2 follow up the great success of season 1?" Now during the holidays, there is now, for sure, three shows that grab my attention more than any other as an MTV fan after an incredibly sophomore season and whose impact will be felt when it makes an unprecedented crossover on one of those shows in the new year.

   All throughout the season in Puerto Rico, there have been numerous romances, as well as two shocking Matchup Ceremonies where the group didn't garner a single beam. And of course, we've had a roller coaster of drama and emotions that matched what we saw in Hawaii. Last week, the group's quest for love and money fell in the hands of Ashley as she had some uncertainty in whether to choose Layton or Dario. Meanwhile, the allure of the 11th girl led to another blowup between two of the guys she's been seeing. And the group notched its best matchup total yet with 8 matches, putting them on the edge of either victory or defeat.

   This week, it's Episode 10 - the finale and, considering what happened to the Originals in them making short work of their goal in 9 tries in Season 1, we have entered uncharted territory for Season 2 as the group enters its 10th and last shot to make it all work. Just as it was in Hawaii, the group is faced with making just one switch to unlock the jackpot and, while the Truth Booth gives them an answer, the question of the 11th girl and who her double match is will be answered. And it will all come down to one last Matchup and one last chance for the group to make what was at times a seemingly impossible task become a reality.

Earlier today in a separate post, we brought you the anticipation in the days leading into the Are You The One? finale, which also included news of the Are You The One? S1 cast's crossover into The Challenge, for which we'll be previewing it and Real World Skeletons this weekend. This post will feature all the interaction from last Monday, the episode tweets and the aftermath, along with the thoughts of me and fellow fans. And after twitter's view of the finale, I'll also offer my view on the tough road the group had to endure to getting to the end.

DC's VIEW: The Finale and The Comeback

So, to take the words of the voice of boxing, HBO's Jim Lampley after George Foreman's knockout of Michael Moorer to win back the heavyweight title in 1994, "It Happened! It Happened!" As someone who's a lifelong sports fan and has been used to this, we have witnessed one of the greatest comebacks that I have ever seen, and it occurs on what is now one of my three favorite shows. The Are You The One? Season Two cast overcomes two blackouts, the presence of the 11th girl, all the drama that took place in the house and the overall feeling that they were seemingly out of it at times, to garner five truth booth perfect matches and in a buzzer beater in the very last matchup ceremony, they go 10 for 10 and win the $1 Million in dramatic fashion. Or shall we say, $1,050,000 - all 21 castmates (including the girl left out of the last matchup, Tyler) will each receive $50,000 - that's definitely a very cool gift under all of their Christmas trees.
   So, where do we begin? If you thought the road Johnny Bananas took to win his 5th Challenge title on Free Agents earlier this year was hard, then the route Team 21 took to achieve this almost improbable road to the money had to be even tougher. We took two trips into the Strategy Room on this blog and there was a feeling among me and many fans that because of all that we saw that they will leave empty-handed. They had a low amount of matches in the first half of the season, and of course they had two blackouts. There was some of the castmates not following through on their planned strategy of playing with their heads and not with their hearts. And there was the many romances between most of the house that hampered their chances
   But, something that was pointed out by my colleague Andrew Kirk was that Season Two's greatest strength was the Truth Booth, and that perhaps was the one thing that helped them go 10 for 10. In Hawaii, the Originals excelled in the Matchups where after Dillan & Coleysia became their first match in week 5, the number of beams not only stayed above 5 but never lost a light en route to the money. In the Truth Booths in Puerto Rico, Season 2 got their first perfect match one try earlier in Week 4 with Pratt & Paris; then got their 2nd in Curtis & Shelby a week later, with echoes of what happened with Cranley in Hawaii. Both of those matches came during that time of turbulence when they got a low amount of beams and, of course, those two no-lights at the MC's.
   After that 2nd blackout and the Layton/Anthony fight, in Week 7 they got their 3rd match in John & Jenni, and that week they got 6 lights. It was what happened there, along with them getting down in the party bus and on the beach, that turned out to really be the turning point in their quest for the cash. It was them having the time of their lives there, along with all the house parties and more, that really saw the group finally gel and, just as it was in Hawaii, allow them all to get together as a team. Then, they gradually decided to adopt a plan to eventually send in a couple who they thought would be a match, and they closed with two in back-to-back weeks in Alex & Jasmine and Dario & Ashley. And as AK tweeted, if you'd combine the Originals' matchup mastery with Team 21's Truth Booth triumphs, then this thing would've been over much earlier, the knockout punch might've come in 7-8.
   And, of course, there was the Matchup Ceremonies. As much as the Booth was the room that changes everything, this is the patio that can change lives. As I wrote in the first Strategy Room, what happened to Team 21 in getting two blackouts and low matches was the equivalent of a boxer getting knocked down two times and losing on points. What happened after that 6th MC is now the equivalent of that fighter getting back up to not only survive but then fight hard against his opponent, and ultimately win the title. Early on, there were instances that some pairs were the same as in previous weeks and that was where they got burned. But when the truth booth matches started coming, that helped make those dress-up nights easier as it wound down. There was, of course, what happened with Layton and him choosing Christina over Tyler in the last matchup that elevated everyone's heart rates for something that might've not mattered anyway because of him being the double match, but I'll leave the opinions on that to everyone else. It's the lights that mattered.

Aside from the great story that is Diem Brown, Team 21's road to $1 million will become the definition in the sense of MTV reality competition shows of a story that only would only be brought to screen by Hollywood and is always the domain of the sports world: incredible comebacks. Take all the amazing major comebacks that have occurred in sports in recent years: both Manchester-based teams in the Premier League each came back from a goal down in stoppage time to win a title - United to win the '99 Champions League title and Man-City to snatch the 2012 EPL crown from Man-U; final-day comebacks from 10-6 down by the U.S. in '99 and Europe 13 years later to win golf's Ryder Cup; and Brittany's Boston Bruins coming back from 3 goals down to tie Game 7 of their 2013 Stanley Cup playoff series against Toronto and them winning in overtime. And for me as an Olympic fan, there's those last legs in the men's free relay - Ian Thorpe in Sydney and then Jason Lezak in Beijing who kept Michael Phelps' 8 for 8 dream alive.
   It is always, of course, a great thing to witness those come back from great odds stacked against them and not only get back up, but excel, compete very hard and emerge victorious. What happened in Puerto Rico proves again that you can never give up on your dreams and aspirations. If you dream big, dig deep and believe, things will happen. Just a few weeks ago, it was uncertain of whether a group of 21 single girls & guys could ever pull off a comeback as large and as inspiring as this one. Now that they have overcome enormous odds stacked against them, they've got their own piece of history, and they have now joined the group who set the bar very high for them in the Originals. This has now redefined the definition of "believe" in my vocabulary.
   In all, this has added to what has been a very eventful and most momentous year that has seen the first two casts of Are You The One? win the big prize, have seen two incredible seasons of that show that I got into on just a IG interact, and very soon the show's first married couple, Ethan and Amber from Season 1, will say hello to a brand new baby girl. And the huge buzz for this show is enough for it to make the unprecedented crossover into The Challenge, where four of the Originals - Adam, Brittany, JJ and Simone - will be on Battle of the Exes 2 next month. And we may see more of the AYTO Takeover in the future as they can potentially challenge Bananas, CT, Emily and the establishment.
