Welcome back once again to DCBLOG and our look back to Episode 2 of Are You The One? Three. While last week was the perfect introduction to this season in cramming everything we want in a season of reality TV in one hour, this week it matched it and then some.
We saw episode 2 of The Kiki and Devin Show once again as they got to enjoy their date on the scooters, he got to utter his trademark catch phrase and then be brought back to earth by being sent into the truth booth and emerging out a no match. We also saw Magic Mike being let out of the cage, Connor confess his obsession with One Direction, and saw more of the housemates than we saw in the premiere. But of course, the lasting moment from this episode, and of the season through two episodes, is obviously them getting punched in the gut with a blackout at the 2nd matchup and being docked $250,000 for not garnering a match.
Yes, things are getting real around the house on the big island, and we have the things to know and winners of the night from Wednesday for you on DC WRAP. Plus in ExtraTime, we'll share you a back story involving this very fan and this cast, and a consolation prize to help cheer them up in the wake of what we saw on episode 2. So, stick around for that, along with the announcement of the next new show I will be live tweeting this fall. That's next after the jump.
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
- First Matchup Aftermath
We begin this week's episode with the aftermath of the first Matchup. There, Stacey gets upset over Alec's comments, while Nelson's revelation causes Kiki to go after Devin and she thinks she won't look at him the same way again and that she wants more than just a simple hook-up. While those two relationships run into troubled waters, new ones begin to bloom in Mike and Amanda, whose night in the Boom Boom Room gives them hope of being perfect match #1. Meanwhile, blond singles Chuck and Hannah have a spark and they could be the one for each other. As he's trying to win her over, she's doesn't know whether to follow her gut and trust him. And we also see Kayla and Connor get much-needed screen time for the first time too.
- Quote Crazy
This week's Getaway Challenge is a quote challenge and this time, it's the ladies who have to match a quote to one of the guys while also having memory and completing it in the shortest time; top three goes on the date. While Amanda was the first to complete and Cheyenne is last to finish (giving up in fact), it's who gets it right who gets the W. For the quotes themselves, we saw Hunter reveal that he slept with one of his teachers, while Connor confess to being a fan of One Direction...whether he want to join the foursome to replace Zayn wasn't talked about. In the end, Kiki, Stacey and Melanie nab the podium positions, and while it was Melanie picking Tyler (right move considering how she chose Devin last week) and Stacey shacking up with Hunter, it's who Kiki chose that set up the week's biggest drama. That story after the next item.
- Scooters, Striptease and Shots!
Last week, we saw Mike and Amanda become the first to take over Poundtown, and this week we saw him do what he does best back on Long Island. And that would be of Magic Mike giving a striptease to the girls in the living room. where he gives Kayla a lap dance and, as a deleted scene would later bring us, sees Amanda go off on him. Meanwhile as Connor & Kayka and Rashida & Tyler hit it off, Hannah shares a body shot with Chuck. But she has doubts about him, but he does offer comfort and reaffirms her that he's different and have a kiss.
And if you remember watching Real World Hawaii you saw Ruthie and her Hawaiian friends go on a joy ride around Oahu. This week, the getaway winners get to enjoy that same feeling of being free in the 50th stage by going on some riding on the scooters and enjoying the islands in the open air. That brings us back to this week's key couple and Kiki's decision.
- The Devin & Kiki Show
At the Challenge, Kiki chooses Devin much to everyone's dismay, as they can't believe that they would have a second shot after what we saw last week. Again, we see them enjoy the scenery with his "Never Give Up on Love" tagline both in the streets and then kissing on the beach. They become the obvious choice for the rest of the house, and by an almost unanimous decision (only Amanda cast the dissenting vote), Kiki & Devin were voted in. They know that they've been all over each other intensively the first two weeks and all the house wants is to see if they are a match.
When they go into the truth booth, the lasers would prove them to be a NO MATCH in what was really the first serious early try at the booth since what we saw in the very first episode. The reaction of everyone was palpable in them being shocked considering that they thought they would beat Pratt & Paris as the earliest Truth Booth match in the three seasons of this. But just like what we saw with other couples the past two seasons, they are not separating and could again cause trouble for the house...yes they're the Shanley/Chris T. and Brandon/Christina of this season as this thing is playing out. As they make out and confess, DiKi (as Ethan from Season 1 calls them) is being persuaded to see new people and play the game...we'll see about that. But, that's not all...the fun is just beginning.
- The Blackout Seen Around The World
At the 2nd Matchup, the house puts the immediate, gut feelings they have to the test. Many of the couples have confidence that their crushes are the perfect matches. But Devin has other plans on his mind, and his goal is to play a smart game with his head and not his heart, just like in the credo of what this season is about. His vision is that everybody should not use their emotions and figure out that math problem to help them run the table. But the house has different aspirations about his plans and his arrogant behavior, but this Bostonian right?
Without any of the drama that accompanied the first Matchup last week, Hunter and Mike stick with their dates in Stacey and Amanda respectively, while Chuck stays with Hannah and same with Connor & Kayla. Austin picks Kiki, Nelson's with Cheyenne, Zak goes with Britni, Devin picks Melanie, Tyler chooses birthday girl Rashida and Alec goes with Chelsey.
When you put them all together, you get something that was all too familiar last year that inspired this year's twist. Yes, it's a Blackout and out goes $250,000 should they sweep away the 10 for 10. When you look over this week's list to last week, six of the couples (Chuck/Hannah, Rashida/Tyler, Mike/Amanda, Mel/Devin, Kiki/Austin & Cheyenne/Nelson) were the same as the first week. And going with not choosing differently this time around instead of going with a fresh outlook on this game saw them get burned in the worst-possible way you can get in this game of high stakes.
This money-losing blackout has happened way earlier than any of the eight truth booth matches we've had the first two seasons and the two blackouts we saw last year. It's early on, but it's already time for them to press the panic button as it's time to start from scratch all over again. We've got something to talk about on the Forum in a few days.

WINNERS OF THE NIGHT
It's may be hard to pick who stood out to me in a week that saw the cast lose cash, but there are some Winners of the Night this week. But an important note here that this site does not pick any Losers of the Night here, just out of respect for the cast in not wanting to jeopardize my objectivity and because of the positive spirit and non-judgmental nature that I retain here. So, you might go all in on some of the cast on social media, but you won't see any of that either on here or on Twitter from me. Back now to picking the standouts from this week...
- Mike: Last week we saw him and Amanda go in the book as the first to use the Boom Boom Room this year, but this week we saw Magic Mike come out of his cage. He is a stripper on Long Island and wasted no time in providing the girls with much needed house entertainment. And on Exes 2, we saw Adam striptease some of the ladies in Costa Rica, so now there's something in common with Magic Mike and Hulk.
- Amanda: When you make a funny drunken remark on a reality TV show, it's likely the folks over at E's "The Soup" will catch it and you'll be in their weekly wrap-up of the week that was. That's exactly what happened when Amanda's comments of her thinking there's 51 stars on the U.S. flag, when there's actually 50. This adds to the unique appeal she has of telling it like it is and also having the knack of having those one-liners and odd remarks that makes her popular among the fans.
- Connor: The funniest part of this week was when Connor admitted in the quotes that he is into One Direction. Okay, we have our own musical guilty pleasures and he let it out there that he's a 1D fan...Robb from RW St. Thomas, you're not alone in being a Directioner. Plus, Connor also showed a serious side in telling Kayla that while he was 18, he was put in the slammer for cocaine and had a bad life back then, but has been able to make a 180, become fit and make a good living for himself. Much respect Connor.
- Kayla: Like what we saw with Connor and numerous others on this cast, we got to see Kayla for the first time on episode 2 this week. Her being able to connect with the Chicago Gentle Giant brought us a sort of different persona from what our first impressions of her were in the leadup to this season. And I'm sure there's something more we can expect from her but for now, she's a WOTN this week.

OHANA
Now in our 'Pulse post on Saturday, we teased about what could possibly be the consolation prize I gave to the AYTO cast the day after the no-light blackout on this week's episode. And if you saw my latest Follow Friday cast sweep on Twitter, they you got an idea of what this piece of ExtraTime is. So here it is...
In times of teams struggling through a losing season in sports, there are always bright spots for teams in finding a player who could possibly make an impact the very next season. And during tense periods in events where the pressure could be immense, there's always words of encouragement being given to the teams or players when things could get rough. And of course during the last two World Cups, words of inspiration lined the U.S. men's and women's national teams from all over the country as they went on those memorable tournament runs that captivated fans here in America.
When I was at the mall beginning to stock up on items for the Vegas trip in 6 days from now, I spotted a hat at one of the mini store islands located just outside a traditional store inside of there. There, I spotted a hat with the name "Ohana" on it. When I posted it on Instagram while I was out there, almost immediately most of the cast took notice of my picture and gave likes & provided comments to
Everyone knows the word "Aloha" as it is part of the lexicon of our 50th stage, which of course is a salutation greeting and is part of the state nickname of Hawaii being the "Aloha State." The Aloha Building in downtown Honolulu has been a state landmark for decades welcoming those who arrive into its port, and there's obviously the Aloha shirt that is Hawaii's most famous article of clothing.
What does the word "Ohana" mean? Along with "aloha," it is part of the Hawaiian culture and language which is short for 'oha A Filipe er best na, which translates in English to "family," whether it would be blood-related, intentional or, in this case of this year's AYTO cast, adoptive. Per its Wikipedia entry, "the concept emphasizes that families are bound together and members must cooperate and remember one another." Similar words and meaning are also used in New Zealand.
Those young kids who are familiar with the Disney film and TV show, Lilo & Stitch, are familiar with Ohana as it was a key theme throughout the Hawaiian-themed animated feature. The AYTO3 cast took note of this word while they were filming this season and it has become an overarching social theme since word got of this season back in August.

Providing this picture and word of inspiration has really given hope to the Season 3 cast as they now go back to square one in hopes of salvaging some lost pride. But with eight episodes to go, they've not given up and this race is far from over.
> NEXT NEW SHOW IS...
With the fall TV season now in full swing across the entire TV landscape, there are not only returning shows like Are You The One?, but also a slew of new ones as well. It's no different for me that, as outside the MTV Trifecta, I have long been welcoming to all kinds of MTV reality programming, as well as Gainesville on country music-centric sibling CMT.
Later this month, I will be adding yet another show to the slate, the milestone 20th MTV show that I have followed and/or live tweeted during my time in social world, in Follow the Rules. Ja Rule was one of the top hip-hop artists of the early 2000's, and was involved in an epic beef with 50 Cent. This time, we will be rejoining him in a different light in a comedic half-hour docu-series as he is at the heart of a hectic household where he is patriarch along with wife Aisha.
In addition to Mr. Rule York and Aisha, we also have college sophomore Brittany who's doing her best to push her parents' boundaries. There's also the two songs, Jeffrey Jr. and Jordan, and both the matriarch of the Atkins clan and mother-in-law living too. Imagine having to share a share time, space and everything in cramped quarters. It's obviously not easy.
Having saw a bevy of throwbacks at the iHeartRadio Music Festival a few weeks back with Diddy and others, I have recollections being in my early 20's listening to some of Ja Rule's tracks back in college, and now it will come back to me once again as returns to MTV in a different world. Think "Run's House" being revived in the post-Jersey Shore era...it will be a fun and hilarious look into the life of one of hip-hop's finest, 15 years after he first made MTV airwaves on TRL.And that will bring an end to this week's 2-post look at this week's Are You The One?. An important reminder here that because of next week's Las Vegas trip, DCBLOG will move the wrap of next week's Episode 3 to the Episode 4 wrap in two weeks, and we'll post only a 'Pulse post for Episode 4 next week. With the preparations for the big weekend ahead, I'll be putting more attention to that trip and do look forward to a double wrap of it then.
Considering what we saw this week, there's a lot for my fellow webcast hosts and bloggers to discuss, along with articles of interest for those of you who want more, and here's some of them...
