We are coming off of what was a very chaotic weekend to say the least, but as you get through this Monday and take off your mind on what's been going in this imperfect world, we're anticipating a new episode of The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30 coming up tomorrow night. And as we welcome you back here again, we have this edition of the WRAP to refresh your memory on what happened last week in Columbia, where we saw only one competition instead of two but it surely made the hour in seeing two competitors have too much fun on the town and have to face the music. But the big moment came when the winners were faced with the prospect of breaking up a pair of best friends and solid competitors, leading one player to make the bossiest move yet on them in taking advantage of the Double Cross twist.
Straight ahead, we'll have our first installment of this cycle of Things to Know to look at the biggest moments so far in this young season. Then after our Winners List and poll results, ExtraTime will join two of the Dirty 30 - and two who represent the present and future of The Challenge - as they join up with a man from this show's past who's now pursuing something a Jersey Shore guy loves to do. See you after the jump.
THINGS TO KNOW
TOP SEVEN AT THE QUARTER POLE
First, we begin with what typically leads off our WRAP posts but hasn't just yet due of other things. The Things to Know section will showcase the top moments from each week in the Trifecta, but since a lot has happened on Challenge XXX and this blog been too busy to fit these in due to a holding pattern in relation to our long-promised midyear Debrief (we promise it WILL be posted here sooner rather than later) and this past week's episode now catching up on this season's first three challenges, we'll start by counting down the biggest moments from these first four episodes And since an MTV press release stated that there will be 15-17 episodes on this season, to take the lingo used by those in horse racing, we have now reached the quarter-pole… hence, this section's title.
7. A MILLION AT STAKE
We begin with something that we, us viewers, know about but the competitors still don't yet: the biggest prize purse in Challenge history. When the premiere began, for the first time we had something you typically see on Survivor: the host welcoming viewers to this season before the cast enters. In doing his best impression of Jeff Probst, TJ Lavin hinted to us that this season would be the most exciting ever, and through this first month, it has been. And when the players walked into what would become the Presidio, along with all the particulars he told them that they would still be playing for the same amount of money that they've been playing for some time: $350,000. But in his first-ever confessional, he told to the camera that they will be playing for $1 million, but instead of getting the most elaborate reaction ever right at the opening bell, TJ will wait for the right moment to tell them of this news. For now, the competitors are going about their business, but you know their reaction will be priceless when they find out that they're playing for seven figures. They'll no doubt ask Team AYTO what it's like to be in that situation.
6. ASHLEY BOLTS EARLY
For house drama, we've already seen Tony get himself into hot water again and Nelson get into a fight just this past week, as well as Cory sneaking off to again hook up with one of his three previous hook ups before that. But for the biggest house drama so far, it belongs to a girl... and for someone who has had drama follow her every step of the way in her MTV trip, there's the latest saga for Ashley M.
Of course, she came to Season 30 off of her surprise upset win over Camila in the Invasion final and in between that time and leaving for this season, she had just gone through that emotional low losing to Lolo Jones on Champs vs. Pros, moving to Las Vegas, filming the reunion and keeping mum about her win until we watched it just before Mother's Day. We discussed this matter in-depth in our premiere WRAP, where she was emotionally drained from this long stretch in having being thrust into the spotlight by her being the biggest surprise champ in this current Challenge era, and when you have an ankle injury on that season in between seasons, losing her luggage as she did going to Columbia, her mental state being tested all the time and her not being home as much, then it does take a toll on her as it did there.
Ashley quitting here before this season's competitions began isn't exactly the kind of quit TJ loves to scold people for, but it's understandable that she wasn't fully ready for this force field and needed this season off. She will return.

5. THE PURGE
As far as the action goes, we've had three challenges so far this season that has involved tomatoes and colliding head-on inside a narrow tunnel, but the most demanding mission of this first quarter was the very first one, and it was here that the mood and the tone of this special season began to take shape. This game had already taken a toll on one in Ashley above, but also CT wasn't present due to passport issues that kept him from flying with the rest of the competitors to Columbia.
For this first mission, the players didn't compete just for the usual sake of one of them automatically going in, but in repeating what happened with the Bloodbath that took place on Invasion last season, the bottom three competitors from each gender would get eliminated from the game. And to the theme of threes, there would be three different rounds played to guarantee themselves safety… and this would be no easy day at the fort where this challenge is taking place at.
Round 1 sees a race to get the first barrel, and roll it down the path to the finish, with the top four earning safety. There, Bananas, Hunter and Kailah prove their worth from the opening horn, while Jordan bounces back from a tumble to earn his way into week 2… so do the vets and Tori. The remaining players go on to Round 2 and split into two teams, and being tasked with having to carry cannons up the same path. This catches the pink team by surprise in Simone & Jemmye not being at 100% just giving up, and the blue team of Leroy, Cara and others taking the win.
In the third and final stage, those like Cory, Darrell, Jenna and Amanda all race to grab a cannonball and race it up to the top to shoot that thing into the air and win. Cory proves his mettle and his football physique to earn the win, and so does Jenna by a good margin. They are then given the twist to having to pick three players from each sex to go home: he picks Devin, Shane and in a shock - Darrell. And she picks Simone, Amanda and Latoya, and they all think that this game is over for all of them. We'll pick up with their story shortly.
4. CORY'S HIT LIST, AND PLAYER WAYS
As for Cory, what happened in the Invasion final is still fresh in his mind of how he wasn't able to perform to his full potential and finishing last, a totally different story from his first go where his genius cousin Mitch helped him ably in Berlin. That humble experience in Thailand is more than fueling him on this season and was prevalent from the get go in deciding to, as you saw above, taking down master manipulator Devin and making the bold play of eliminating Darrell rather than taking playing the safe card in letting Tony join his brother and save the big name veterans for later.
That move more than epitomized the desire Cory has of trying to win for the first time, even if it can take for ruffling someone's feathers to make it happen. Plus, he got to again show off his player ways in flirting with Kailah, talking to Aneesa and bringing Camila to the beach. As I tweeted during Episode 2, this brought back memories of Jason from Season 2 of Laguna Beach in how he got to play Jessica, Alex M. and LC during the course of that season… and how compared to that Cory would have to live with all three of his hookups in the same house rather than in the same quaint town.

As for the game itself, it was after what happened with that hookup and memories still being fresh of Cory's bold move that the veterans decided to get him back and vote him into elimination, and also Camila burning a vote to save him much to the vets displeasure. And what further fueled the veterans ambition of taking out Cory was of them realizing that he had plans to take out the big guns early and make the road to the crown much more easier, leading him to admit to being an easy target of them to take out. And it was after that where Cory takes advantage of his opponent Derrick H. in the Presidio of using his upper body strength to tear down the poles filled with fire to win going away.
As pointed out by our friend Allan Aguirre, the amount of confessional time in this early stage has been dominated by Cory. Sometimes, this is part of the so-called winner's edit (Ashley M, Cara, Frank) and others by those who didn't win (Jordan on Free Agents, Wes on The Ruins), which gives you a good idea of who might have the biggest impact on this game whether they can make it to the end or not. Stay tuned to see what Cory has in store next, or what his fate might be here.
3. THE REDEMPTION HOUSE
Back to those Purge losers: when they were eliminated in that first challenge, they all thought that this was going to be the end of their stay… especially someone who won his first four Challenges and having just came off winning Champs vs. Pros. But for Darrell, Devin, Shane, Simone, Amanda and Latoya, this wasn't going to be the end of their story.
After they lost, they were all brought over from the fort where the first mission took place to a smaller and cramped up but still beautiful humble abode where they would be waiting out their chance to get their revenge and win their way back into the game and the main house. There, when we got to see the new house for the first time at the beginning of Episode 2 (and the end of the premiere the previous week), we saw Devin add to his musical resume, him and Amanda enjoying some martinis, and the dad of the place Darrell just working out in preparation for his chance.
For those who watched Battle of the Exes 2, we saw this first-ever twist play out in the Exile and the Battle of the Exiled twist, inspired by what happened on Survivor: Redemption Island. We know what happened there when Wes knew he was screwed when Bananas walked out there. But coming up tomorrow, we will see this play out a little earlier than it was there two years ago when those in that house and last week's two losers Tony and Jenna will get a shot at regaining their spot there.
The betting man will no doubt favor Darrell by a considerable margin for the guys, but for the girls Jenna will be a little bit of a closer favorite over Amanda than it is for Don Juan over either Tony, Devin or Derrick H. All three of them have had elimination losses in the past, and of course we know what happened with the middle man getting a second chance before he got a Second Chance. For the champ, he's had this momentum taking down Bananas, stretching CT to the limit and winning earlier this summer and him coming back to shore will sure excite the vets and scare Cory.
And for the girls, Amanda proved her worth in the Bloodbath nearly coming close to taking down Nicole in phase #2, and backing up her fiery persona there. Toya won the first elimination on Free Agents in taking down Jem, and Bri is still coming off of a hard-fought battle with Britni two weeks ago. And there's also hatred between Freckles and Jenna which would make it the ideal matchup in what we might see tomorrow... no doubt there's one person who Kailah will root for.

2. THE FIGHT NO ONE SAW… Except Those Involved
Back a few weeks ago, there was the darkest moment so far of this season: a vicious fight that took place in the Redemption House that no one in the main house knew about, and something no one saw except for those in those cramped quarters. Of course, this is the latest chapter in the kind of deplorable behavior that often plagues these shows we love watching, and it was something that we covered in depth in our Week 2 WRAP.
To put this into Cliff Notes form, Simone gets mad at Shane for not greasing her scalp, then complains about it to to Devin and Amanda as Shane is listening to them from a distance. Then later on when cameras and production had left for the night, things escalated between Simone and Shane after the former talked to Devin about MTV's demographics and how African-Americans like her are casted on these shows. When Shane wanted to shut her down, the two began yelling at each other, and then he proceeded to violence: hitting her two times, pulling her hair, and making contact with a bench inside... all while being intoxicated. And it was not only her: Devin also was a victim when Shane bit him when he was in a chokehold to stop this case of domestic violence, and after Simone had a wine bottle in her hands with threats to strike back.
It was no surprise that both Simone and Shane were sent home and obviously, it was a tough night that, after all the accounts were given by all those involved, you can be glad that this kind of garbage wasn't shown at all considering how this would've p'd off some advertisers and after MTV learned its lesson following the Snooki punch and Amber & Gary.

1. DOUBLE CROSS… AND THAT PLAY
Well, there's no doubt what is the big moment of this first quarter of this Challenge: the twist that was revealed in the first trip to the elimination chamber, which this season is called "the Presidio." Back in our season preview, we discussed the twist taking place among the players up for the cut called the Double Cross. There -- and inspired by the kill card, the skulls and Nelson's play that we've seen in recent years, there would be boxes with an X and an XX inside which would signify safety for now in the former, and the boldest gameplay for the other. If a player drew a Double Cross, they can vote in anyone other than the challenge winners to go up against the loser in the Presidio.
We saw this twist play out for the first time on Episode 3 when Dario pulled out the XX and decided to throw in fellow AYTO alum Derrick H. instead of Leroy, considering their close bond in having lived in Las Vegas. For the girls, Veronica pulls the Double Cross and threw in Britni. It sees mixed results in the Southerner winning over Briana and Team Chocolate losing to Cory. And it led to what happened six nights ago...
Those who saw last season know that Kailah received a less than warm welcome on her first Challenge, and in the Invasion Shelter and Oasis she got to establish a close bond with the likable lady of this show: that Barbie Beast Jenna. The keypoint of last week's episode focused around this close bond between the two, where the both are strong competitors, who work out every day together in the house and have such a close bond that it would be hard for one or the other to get far in the game, especially in the case of someone who got invited to the birthday soiree of a man who also knows the feeling of being hated on every day.
The bond of the duo known simply as Jailah gave the house ladies, especially Jemmye and Marie, something to think about in trying to separate these besties and have to let one of them go for a deep run without the other in the house. And when Kailah finishes last in the previous week's challenge, Jenna is among those who were up for elimination along with Camila, Nicole, Jemmye and Britni. And when the single X's are all drawn, it comes down to Jem to vote in who she wanted to go in. It's when she says Jenna's name that everyone's jaws get dropped and leading her to flip the bird and leading Bananas to say, "Jemmye just crowned herself the grimiest, dirtiest broad in the game."
The rest is history: Jenna and Kailah square off and the ladder comes away victorious as the both embrace after that battle, leading Kailah to respond to her critics and Jenna coming way backstabbed.

And, two comments from fans on Facebook and on its Challenge page offer their thoughts on this backstab...
● Ilona Za: "Wrong move for sure. Jenna had jemmyes back during the first challenge and that's how jemmye repays her? Just wrong. Jemmye hasn't been around for years and all of a sudden she thinks she runs things. But I do get it. Jenna is a threat. She's one of the better competitors and she is in shape compared to many of the girls on there right now."
● Phillip Dreitzler: "Don't worry people. Jemmye is probable the weakest and most out of shape female on the show. Basically the male equivalent of Tony.. Someone who's been on a lot of challenges, and done a lot of nothing. She will be out in a week or two unless the stronger players keep her around so they can run circles around her in a final."

WEEK 4
● JEMMYE: After her absence in the wake of the untimely death of longtime boyfriend Ryan Knight, Jemmye decided to return, and she has indeed made her mark by way of what we saw last week. Her making this bold move stamps her place and her return to this show by proving that an absence and her not being as athletic as everyone else won't underestimate that political part of this new game, and proved it there with that backstab of Jenna.
● AMMO: As for the man who won last week's guys elimination, Ammo is certainly adds a breath of fresh air to this tense Challenge house. At first glance, most would think why he was chosen over other guys to be here, but after seeing his many confessionals and him being the clubhouse leader in attire among everyone in this cast, he has sure made the LGBT-Q crowd proud of him. And him upsetting the strong Tony last week certainly adds more to his growing resume.

PAST, NOW, NEXT: A MEETING OF THREE GENERATIONS
Instagram @TheMikeDiaz |
There in Tampa Bay, Cara Maria flew down to the cigar capital of the world (and home base of AYTO's resident comedian from Season 1 John Jacobs) to not only check out this town, but also help to co-host an event at a local club. Along with hanging out with a resident of Florida's Bay Area in Nicole, the reason she came to what's called by locals as The Big Guava was for an event hosted by a Real World alum and Challenge legend that Cara got to compete with on her second Challenge, Cutthroat back in 2010 in Prague.
We first saw Brad Fiorenza on The Real World San Diego back in 2004 as that guy from Chicago who rode his motorcycle to Cali for a season that saw the cast do work with an America's Cup winning sailing club, traveled overseas to Greece and enjoyed everything about Surf City. Shortly after he moved to Cali, he found himself in love with Southern belle Cameran Eubanks, who would go on to further reality TV fame herself on Bravo's Southern Charm. But in one of the show's most memorable moments, Brad found himself having had a bad night on the town and began to rant in the streets in front of locals... all in front of the local cops. When fellow roommate Randy tried to calm him down, Brad would find himself handcuffed on the same night that another roomie, future Challenge icon Robin, would also find herself in the back seat of a police car and led the one who was back home getting a call from the police house, Jacquese, to put on a sign on his shirt saying "Free Brad!"
Brad would go on to do eight Challenges, starting on Battle of the Exes 2 and would make it into four finals during his career, including both Duels -- second on Duel II -- and the Gauntlet III marred by what happened with Big Easy. It would have been five if not for a fight that took place between him and Darrell on The Ruins late in the season that cost the both of them their places in the game after Brad instigated the four-time champ into punching him multiple times, which was also Darrell's first time being sent home before a final. But along the way, Brad also found himself in love with a beauty pageant queen named Tori Hall, who came onto Road Rules Viewers Revenge and crossed over into The Challenge in being part of that Gauntlet 3 rookies team that took home the money in Mexico. The two met on that season and then went together again on The Duel II when Brad was on the victory podium and where, on the reunion special, revealed that they were engaged.
Brad and Tori then went to Cutthroat in 2010 and along with Tyler and Dunbar crossed the finish line together in Prague and shared a victory kiss atop the castle and with $80,000 to bring home after the two got married before leaving for Europe and to ride off into the sunset with good news that would come afterwards. Over a year later, she gave birth to their first child, John, and two years ago welcomed Chase into the world. Unfortunately, not everything lasts and it was revealed on the Brain Candy Podcast with friend Susie Meister that just last year, Tori announced that she & Brad had separated, though they continue to co-parent their two kids.
In dealing with this latest chapter, along with working as part of the local Chicago Public Schools system, Brad has turned to music and to DJ'ing, and the weekend before last, Brad hosted a DJ set at a local club in the Tampa area, with Cara and Nicole in the house supporting him. Below is a pic of one local guy who got to meet the three and hang out with them.
Finally here, there's the latest in Tony's ongoing MTV odyssey: him surprisingly losing to Ammo in the Presidio and his latest dose of big time drama. It's safe to say that, as I wrote in an Instagram caption, this man from the state capital of Louisiana has had probably the greatest roller coaster ride a guy from the latest generation of Real World has had. At this time three years ago, he was in Chicago to film his RW Skeletons season and almost instantly fell in love with a Texas blonde. There, he and Madison found that they were going to become parents much to our delight, then he went to his first Challenge where he and his brother got into a fight after he had went to the bathroom to hook up with the girl they call "Eleven." Then came the news that he would become a dad for a second time, along with him getting into it in the Challenge house again, this time with an established veteran lady and they would also get their marching orders. And of course, what we saw last week with his latest outburst involving a Challenge vet in Cara Maria.
If you've been checking out his social media comments, you'll notice that a lot of people have been using his behavior to troll Tony with negative comments, just as they did after hooking up with Christina on Bloodlines and his fight with Camila on Rivals III. And with news being uncovered by some sites of what might possibly happen next and it being related to what's happened to him recently, unfortunately this may not be the end to it. And obviously, there was what happened to brother Shane back at the Redemption House which Tony had no idea about. But regardless of his actions, as we wrote about last year Tony is doing whatever he can to be as good as a dad as he can be to daughters Harper and Isla, and being able to co-parent with their moms too, regardless of whatever drama they might find themselves in. You might consider this to be the MTV Trifecta's own version of the baby mamma soap drama which we see all the time on Teen Mom… not surprisingly, an ex of one of the girls on that show was linked for a time to Madi.
With that in mind, Tony took an opportunity on Instagram after the episode aired to make fun of all this and let the cuteness of his kids be the stars, and even make fun of himself.
● Once again, AfterBuzz TV is covering The Challenge with their own after shows with hosts Pamela Gross, Paulina Aguilar, Jenna Bussiere and David Christopher. After last week's episode, Jordan joined the panel to discuss what has happened in the season's first quarter... check out that podcast here and the AfterBuzz site for discussion on all of your favorite shows, including AYTO alum Ryan Malaty discussing Teen Wolf and Game of Thrones.
● The Bill and Dave Show, a Chicago-based podcast, welcomed Derrick K. to their show this past week as they talked about his return to the show after 7 years away, along with Bulldog representing Chi-town, his partnership with Diem Brown on Fresh Meat and helping Johnny Bananas as well. Listen to their interview here, along with other podcasts on their site.
● On the MTV RHAP on Rob Has A Podcast, Brian Cohen (@CohenBrian_) and Ali Lasher discussed what happened the events and everything else of episode 4 of Dirty 30. Check it out now at robhasawebsite.com, along with Ace Nichols (@AceNichols33) and her YouTube recaps.

And on that note of extreme cuteness, that will do it for our look at Week 4 of The Challenge XXX. Before we go, a few reminders:
● And in something not MTV-related and in relation to the recent passing of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, a friend of this site River Zain Cebellos (@RiverC_Official) wrote his own tribute to the late singer on Proud 2B ME, and received a message of thanks from his widow, Talinda. Check out that post here, along with my post on Chester on here also.
