DC WRAP: The Challenge XXX - Dirty 30: Week 7

BY DC CUEVA
■ @DC408Dxtr  TW / IG / YT

As you enjoy these last few precious hours of the summer of 2017, DCBLOG now has this last post of this week's wave covering last week on The Challenge XXX. There, we saw Veronica and Aneesa get together for a bit, saw the competitors rely on memory, a precursor to what we will see from TJ Lavin come tomorrow, and an injury as well. And we came so close to a full episode.
As we mentioned to you back on Saturday, this edition of the WRAP is once again truncated due to this week's elimination not showing both in its entirety, and we'll be waiting for when an episode finally ends with both battles airing in the same show, and we'll recap that and the past ones as part of a special, expanded edition of Things to Know when that come around... hopefully tomorrow night.
But coming up, we'll unlock the keys into the Strategy Room to look at where we stand after seven episodes of this season. Then, we'll head back to Las Vegas to see how two members of Team MTV, and two Challenge champions for that matter, got to see the Money Fight. That's all ahead as we bring the curtain down on Summer Seventeen.

 STRATEGY ROOM
WHERE IT ALL STANDS: WEEK 7

So, where do we stand after seven episodes? Well, we've had fewer challenges, almost an equal amount of eliminations, and lots of drama.

GAMEPLAY: The dirty theme of this season has seen a lot of gameplay that's been questionable and surprising. No doubt, the Double Cross has been the root of all of this, and we've seen that take on the role of the keystone of this season. Of course, we've seen Jemmye use this to put in Jenna in the first elimination, Veronica putting in Britni, and Nicole putting in Tori. And we've also seen this sketchy gameplay outside the elimination Presidio too many to mention here.
VETERANS: For the veterans, it's clear that they have come to play this season, and we've been seeing Bananas, Camila and most especially in the past couple weeks, CT and Cara Maria, take control of this game as well as Veronica and Aneesa. We still have absolutely no idea of what the final has in store, but at the pace this game is going, then some of the veterans should be at the starting line when we get into this deep into the autumn.
CORY: Then, there's Cory, and what we saw earlier on that has set the mood for his latest quest to get to the winner's circle. His move to put in Darrell had us all surprised, but him revealing his cards of the "hit list" of him trying to take out the veterans have now seen him garner a target on his back. And though he was able to win that first elimination, still he has a hard road ahead and going into him battling Hunter tomorrow, it will sure be an uneasy battle.
STANDOUTS: For those who have stood out so far, Ammo proved that being yourself and being a great person both competitively and in the house makes him one of the handful who gets nothing but love from everyone in this house, and also being open about the journey he's had to get to this season when at first many were skeptical. And for Tori, she has proven to be someone who's has all of the characteristics of being a great castmate, and that's translated into this season as well.
COMPETITION: The competition we've had so far started with that demanding first challenge in the fort, and since we've had missions on the beach, in the water, in the hallway and eliminations involving fire, taking off patches and a wall. Seasons of the recent past have seen players being tested in every aspect of their game, and tomorrow night sees the return of something that is the ultimate competitive equalizer: trivia. Of course, that gives everyone a realistic shot of winning. It will be fun.

MAY-MAC

We began this Labor Day weekend with a Pulse Extra to bring you how the Trifecta community saw last week's Video Music Awards and the big fight that took place all before we brought you the 'Pulse of Episode 7 of Dirty 30 as well as the cast's adventures inside the Forum. Now, what about that fight?
Two weeks ago, the sports world's marquee attraction took place in Las Vegas, where in a time of renaissance for the sweet science, boxing fans were treated to its latest chapter in what has been a stellar 2017 for the sport. The year has seen the long heavyweight title reign of the Klitschko brothers come to an end, Manny Pacquiao once again get robbed of a disputed decision and Terrence Crawford become boxing's first undisputed champion in a decade. And before the upcoming mega-fight between pound-for-pound stars Saul Canelo Alverez and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, another marquee boxing event took place, featuring a man who we featured here meeting a Challenge newbie.
Back in March during Invasion, we told you about the night in the Hollywood Hills where Floyd Mayweather, Jr. celebrated his 40th birthday with the likes of Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey and a host of other famous luminaries during Oscars weekend. Challenger Kailah and her boyfriend, rapper and reality TV veteran Mikey P., were among those who were the lucky ones to be invited to join the Money Man as he turned the Big 4-O, and they got to celebrate in only a way Floyd can: a lavish, over-the-top party. This came at a time where those in the fight game were speculating that he would come out of retirement one more time to try and reach 50-0, the first undefeated professional boxer to reach that plateau, in a fight against an unlikely opponent from another combat sport.
Mayweather has fought some of boxing's greatest names, but the thought of him facing off against UFC mega-star Conor McGregor was something that wasn't even in the cards a couple years ago when he fought a lonely Andre Berto after his much ballyhooed bout with Manny Pacquiao which turned out to be a snore (though it did give my family reason to remodel our house in one week). But the cards fell in place for the '96 Olympian and the Irish superstar to get in the ring on that VMA Eve in Las Vegas and for a moment many thought that Conor would be the one who would put the 1 next to the 49 in Floyd's final record. But him gassing out towards the late rounds led the veteran to get the TKO stoppage in the 10th round, but not before McGregor was able to hold his own and earn respect.
For a sport whose crowds at big super-fights are comprised of mainly those in the rich and famous, there was room for Conor's boisterous Irish contingent to make their way into T-Mobile Arena to turn it into a European soccer match. But there was also some room for those who shelled out hundreds and sometimes the four figures to watch it live instead of forking over $100 for a pay-per-view ticket. And for two Challenge champions as well as the newest host of the social love experiment, they had their own view of this latest boxing mega-fight.

Earlier this year, we saw the fairly calm but beautiful golden girl of Team San Diego that won that Challenge five years ago, Ashley K., make her return to The Challenge. She was able to hold her own both on Invasion and on Champs vs. Pros as well as that mini-Challenge inside Universal Studios, not to mention compete on last summer's streaming series The Runner. For there, she was able to walk out of Thailand with a charming boyfriend in Dario, and they moved to his old stomping grounds of Las Vegas - a town that's already chock full of members of the Trifecta.
Of course, Sin City has staked its claim as the Fight Capital of the World, and when the opportunity came for those at Mayweather Promotions to reach out to those who wanted a chance to get on camera in the most high-profile position of serving as a ring girl for what is sure to be Floyd's last-ever fight, Ashley submitted her name with the chance to be one of those carrying around the round cards in between rounds. She won the right to be part of the handful who did those duties in both the main event later that night and the undercard bouts that took place earlier in the lead-up to May-Mac. And those who watched the undercard bouts earlier in the day on FOX, they got to see Ashley in the ring alongside "The Classy" Jimmy Lennon, Jr. ... perhaps maybe only a handful might've recognized Ashley from her three Challenges.

As for those who had those lucky seats, one of them happened to be not only a Challenge champion but also someone who just met a Greatest of All Time. Not long ago, we showed you true Challenge and Real World O.G. Syrus getting the chance to meet heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, adding to this stellar list of celebrities he has gotten to cross paths with. He got to pay $5,000 for a seat at Mayweather vs. McGregor and posted a picture of his ticket on his Instagram with the caption, "Sittin pretty enjoying the #mayweathermcgregor." And below, he captured a video of the final moments of the fight and the barrage that gave referee Robert Byrd reason to say enough.

And in the latest chapter of The Busy Life of Terrence J., on the same weekend that he hosted the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards which we covered here earlier today, he also got to do some of the events for Fight Week up in Vegas... you can be lucky that it's just a one-hour flight from Sin City to Los Angeles. This included him hosting the Friday weigh-in which featured a performance by Cardi B., and him also doing rehearsals for both that and his VMA's duties all in the matter of a many hours and some frequent flier miles.
For the man who hosted this summer's SafeWord which has helped MTV to increased viewership, that preshow from the Forum and who will be taking over as host of Are You The One? in 16 days from tonight when Season 6 takes flight, this is the start of a busy stretch for him in not only doing press for this show but also filming a movie role too. We sure wish we would have that busy but crazy life.

REALITY DEBRIEF: UPDATE

Before we conclude this week, a little Heads-Up...  All since back in May following the finale of The Challenge Invasion, I have been anticipating the opportunity to take a break from bringing you all the reaction and the stories of the Trifecta and become what everyone else does: provide opinions. Thus, the FORUM provides me and sometimes guests to offer that platform. And all this spring and summer, I have been promoting on my Twitter @DC408Dxtr about doing a mid-year installment of something that usually appears during the winter: the Reality Debrief.
Well, as you probably know, I have been in a holding pattern of sorts all this summer long in waiting for the responses from my usual cohort Andrew Kirk (@CSUGradAKirk). But with him being very busy with him working with the Oakland A's - and this now being Labor Day Weekend, I have decided that it's best that we should save the rest of our planned discussion for the usual spot for reflection on the year that was - December and our traditional year-end recap covering all of the year that was in reality TV. Part 1 of our Debrief will be posted as part of this weekend's blog wave, with a review of just Are You The One and Andrew will join me for that - and he'll be with me over the holidays and after AYTO Season 6 to discuss everything with yours truly.
Now, for this major portion of the discussion, Part 2 will be coming your way shortly thereafter and will be devoted entirely to The Challenge, touching upon Invasion of the Champions, Champs vs. Pros and everything that's been going on so far in this current season of Dirty 30. There, I plan to bring on fellow blogger Allan Aguirre (@FrebreezyFresh) as we'll be discussing those seasons as well as the upcoming Are You The One? Season 6 taking place later this month, and even touching upon Big Brother as well. Allan has been doing a superb job doing daily blog posts on The Challenge and everything else on Medium, so he's the perfect person to step in for Andrew for this edition.
So once again, we'll be opening up the question lines for those of you who want to send me and Allan questions for the both of us to answer on this Challenge, on AYTO and on Big Brother as well. So, tweet your questions to #AskDCBLOG on Twitter, and we'll be lucky to answer your Trifecta questions and him on Big Brother as well too. The deadline for those will be the week next Sunday, September 10th, and we'll be posting that at midweek a week before the premiere of AYTO Season 6.
So, thank you for your continued support and your patience. It hasn't been easy, but it comes with a relief that I will finally be able to bring you that midyear Debrief and then move into the many great stuff this site has planned for the fall.

And with that in mind, that will bring our look at Week 7 of The Challenge XXX to an end. Before we go, here are a few reminders relating to our favorite Staten Island'er.
● Challenge fan and sports prognosticator Drew Scott has been doing a lot of interviews with the Trifecta community on his podcast, The Drew Scott Sports Show, and this past week he brought on Marie to discuss this season so far and much more. Check out that interview here, plus at his site check out pod's he did with Vegas original Arissa, Leah from the Paris season, Nehemiah from RW Austin, and from the forgotten Hollywood season - Briana and the guy they call "Pretty Boy."
● Marie not only got to talk with Drew, but also with the Hedrich Files and the Rotten Banana Podcast, where she talked about Dirty 30, her two previous Challenges, her original Real World, the Redemption House and the tricks of editing. That's on SoundCloud.

With our usual reminder to bookmark this site and to join my Dirty 30 conversation on Twitter at #DCChallenge when I live tweet it tomorrow on DCNOW @DC408DxNow, and along with what we have planned with the Debrief, tomorrow sees the group tackle trivia and we'll share with you some famous moments from the battle of the brains and thoughts from the trivia master when we cover this week's episode coming up at the weekend along with our usual episode coverage and the ExtraTime stories which we'll reveal at midweek.
That is how we look at it this week in the MTV Trifecta and week 7 of The Challenge XXX - Dirty 30... hope you enjoyed it. Enjoy the rest of this Labor Day and these last few hours of 2017, and see you then.

- I AM DC
