In an ordinary world, January would be an ideal time for those who would want to escape the cold, harsh winters for the thrill of just getting to enjoy a cold one on the sandy beach and just wearing your shorts. The mess known as the COVID pandemic has derailed most everyone's travels this time around, but for those who call the state of Florida home, the above opening sentence surely applies.

Since back in 2017, there has been reason for fans of MTV Reality to come to the Sunshine State through the magic of cable: the modern-day versions of two of the channel's legacy series of over a decade ago of Jersey Shore and The Hills, Floribama Shore and Siesta Key, have delighted our winters, and even warmed up a couple summers too. The former has those hilarious characters with a slice of Southern style, fun and heart; the ladder located just an hour away are their cool cousins who love some drama, parties and the sun.

For the past three years, we have enjoyed one or the other's company during a time where the weather in Florida is more than ideal, and last year at this time they both shared center stage during the last months of the old normal. And while the crazy kids of Floribama are rejoicing in one of their own becoming the first to become a parent, the Siesta clique are enjoying themselves in not only their home, but also a new paradise that they're calling their own backyard. And now, there's word on the 'vine that someone else is joining along for the fun in the sun as they do something they've never done before.

In each of Siesta Key's five cycles -- the two halves of its first and most recent seasons and the second one sandwiched in between, the first episodes in those have had the chance to be introduced to the characters who call this paradise outside Sarasota and Tampa Bay home. The first half of Season 1 introduced us to the whole crew, while the back end welcomed those of LGBT origin, a sister of one of the OG's and a close friend of its main character. Season 2 saw the arrival of a vendetta and ex of the protagonist's boyfriend, and of course last year we were introduced to his baby mama and a few others.
But of course, the biggest entry to Siesta in any of the three seasons was, of course, Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise alum Robby Hayes, who scored Juliette's heart while working for his influencer company and then broke her heart. Him coming onto Season 3 last year brought a lot of buzz to this show -- from him impolitely applauding the infamous catfight with his girlfriend and her closest ally at her housewarming, to the related phone gate incident of throwing Amanda's phone into the port during that party... and he was in and out just like that. And it was just the iceberg to an eventful season with a baby, an ex-producer becoming an OG castmate's boyfriend, and everything else on offer that we love about this college-aged version of Laguna Beach.

When MTV made it official of renewing Siesta Key for Season 4 late last year, a key item that was brought up in the reveal announcement would see something a bit different, but one that's familiar to these crazy times. Those who are watching Jersey Shore right now know that the fourth Vacation is going down in a hotel rented by the cast... same goes for their Floribama counterparts in reportedly filming Season 4 also in a bubble setting, similar to Double Agents in Iceland. And of course, everyone from the cast to crew are being tested for COVID regularly and so far, things are A-OK health wise.
While much of Season 4 will take place in and around the Key and its well-regarded beaches, for this year's venture to paradise the show will do something similar to its Shore mates. There, the Siesta cast will be flying out to a destination outside of its titular location, something they've done before on the show when they ventured over to Georgia, Miami and Nashville and New York. This time, it will be at an international location similar to a weekend in Bimini in the Bahamas during Season 1, but in this instance it's taking place in a private resort rented out just for them.
The cast flew out to that destination to begin the new year, which turns out to be Saint Vincent and the Grenadines located in the southern portion of the Caribbean, and part of the subset of islands known as the West Indies. When you see VG on the map, this group of thirty-two islands are further southeast from the Virgin Islands - home to Real World St. Thomas in 2012, and past AYTO hosts Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic... and it's not that far from Rihanna's home of Barbados. And if you're a cricket fan, the West Indies are a powerhouse in that other bat & ball sport played outside of the U.S.

While the cast will be somewhat different this time around, we still have Jules, Madisson, Kelsey, Garrett, Brandon, Madisson and Amanda... and their significant others and those who are also in their inner circle of friends & family. But this week, news was made public on her social feeds that, given how often unstable this group is in a two where secrets aren't safe, Chloe revealed that she's taking a break from filming because of what she considers an "extremely toxic" environment and to keep her mental health in check, as evidenced by that fight at the housewarming last year, and the little things that led to the demise of relations with her former friend who also doubles as Jules' ex.
But whenever there's an opening in any cast, often there's bound to be some shoes to fill in, even if it's just for a temporary basis: for the last season & a half of The Hills, when Lauren Conrad left the show the other half of the love triangle she was in with Stephen in Laguna Beach, Kristin Cavallari, took her place. And earlier this week, there was perhaps that instance taking place: someone who's also become friends with Juliette during this late fall and winter making it public on her social media channels about being that next crossover star to the Key.

Serena Kerrigan
was born and raised in the Big Apple, and after spending four years away on Tobacco Road going to college at Duke she was on her way back home to work for Refinery29. After being a content producer behind the scenes, she then made her way in front of the camera hosting many segments for the women's lifestyle outlet. But just before the start of the American lockdown, Serena swapped jobs for launching her own startup in creating shows and branded content -- the biggest of which has been cult favorite IGTV series Let's F****ing Date, which garnered her plenty of buzz on her Instagram TV platform and turned into a card game that, when it was released, it sold out in 24 hours.
For a young lady who walked the same red carpet at the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards with the likes of Bananas, Wes and others, it was almost meant to be for her to join them in this family. And earlier this week, Serena posted the following in her stories as she set about joining Jules and the rest of the Siesta Key cast on their rendezvous in the Grenadines. And upon her arrival, she also joined People TV to discuss what went down in Matt James' quest for love on The Bachelor, all while hiding the fact that she will be on our TV screens when we get deep into this year.

We'll have the chance to get to know more about Serena once we begin covering Season 4 of Siesta Key when all of the essentials of the premiere date, cast and promotional material are made public in due course. But for now, we'll leave you with these paradise-perfect postcards from the Caribbean...
