DC WRAP Double Shot: Final Reckoning's 1st 3 Weeks and Floribama Madness

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

Welcome back everyone on this Monday... a week with the last two days of July and the start of August is just beginning, but there is still a lot of buzz over what was a busy week for MTV Reality fans - and it has even more juicer in Lindsay Lohan having her own show now. Our focus here is on what happened in South Africa with the first elimination battle and the unveiling of new twists to the game that promises to make this season of The Challenge much more exciting. And also, there was the drama that occurred on Floribama Shore where a man got handcuffed as well as an argument breaking out.
   In a preview of what we'll be having come this time next month, DCBLOG will ultimately have Double Shot WRAP posts to round out our weekly posts: our recap portion of our episode coverage starting in late August and continuing through the fall will feature not just recaps, opinion and analysis on Final Reckoning, but also Are You The One? Season of Fate with its accompanying tidbits for our analytics nerds. But for now here, we'll be looking at the key moments of the first three episodes of Final Reckoning, and take another trip to the Strategy Room to discuss the possibilities the two twists we saw this week might have on this season.
   Then, we'll have more on the latest drama to go down in Panama City Beach: we'll hear from the two who got into an argument on the street, and the man who we got cuffed. And we'll round it off with a musical delight from the duo who just nipped a pair of champions in an all-Challenge Celebrity Fear Factor. All that awaits you here before new episodes begin shortly.

MTV Reality: Teen Mom Road Rage

Because of the sensitive nature of the topic,
comments in this post have been turned off.

It's clear that, from her live tweets of them each Monday, Jemmye is the superfan in the Trifecta of the drama that's been taking place the past decade on Teen Mom and its predecessor, 16 & Pregnant. Judging by how the cast have been in the tabloids almost every week this decade, it does, after all, garner a larger viewership than the Trifecta series we cover usually - and if the rumors on the line are true, there may be reason for those who follow The Challenge to take up watching the baby mama drama soon. And it was a week ago that Bristol Palin was announced as a new member of the OG cast to replace the departed Farrah Abraham and to much Twitter reaction after the politician's daughter made headlines years earlier for her stance against LGBT rights and other controversies.

Monday night before the madness that went down on Floribama Shore and in South Africa on Final Reckoning the night after, there was a rather disturbing moment that took place on the penultimate episode of what's now the 20th overall season of Teen Mom 2. There, the one lady who has been the most-scrutinized member of this second generation of moms, Jenelle Evans-Easton, had an episode with an aggressive driver on a ride home, all as her son Jace was sitting in the front-row passenger's seat next to her after she picked her up from school. It was so sobering a moment last week, it only added to the decade's worth of moments that got everyone talking from this franchise.
   There, when she and the driver had their moment of getting so close to each other in the North Carolina highways during the height of the afternoon rush hour, Jenelle decided to take out a handgun from her driver's side pocket and point it in the direction of the offended driver... all as Jace was watching it in front of their own eyes. That part of the footage was eventually not shown - which is the latest in a long line of bad behavior for Jenelle, with numerous situations too much to mention here, and putting road rage into the national conversation. And it may be turning for the worse for her, with a sneak preview of the finale seeing local sheriffs deputies outside the door of her house.

Below are some of the reactions from Teen Mom viewers and from her co-stars on Jenelle's road rage incident. People Magazine provided a full recap of the episode, which you can check out here.

Social Reaction...

@PapaRandlicious Randy Houska/Chelsea Houska-DeBoer's grandpa: Where is the loaded gun while Jace sits alone in the car? @mtv #teenmom2 @teenmom
- @ChelseaHouska: @PapaRandlicious I was wondering this also 😩

@erin2485: @people This scene gave me so much anxiety. They could have been killed because she was dumb enough to follow the guy who clearly had even more anger issues than she does! Even David pointed that out. I would have been terrified. And poor Jace had to experience everything.

@SayMyJRenee: This episode turned my stomach. Particularly that traffic stop/gun situation. From Jenelle endangering her child to me knowing in my mind and heart that had she been black there’s a great chance she would’ve been held at gunpoint/arrested/shot by that cop. #teenMom2

@LandryLocker: This scene with Jenelle on #TeenMom2 is awkwardly intense. Following a dude home with the kid in the car after a road rage incident, backs into his mailbox and then pulls a gun on him. This is outta hand.

@vanesamariana_: Jenelle brandishing her gun at a guy that she decided to follow for tailgating her is probably the most disturbing thing I've seen on Teen Mom by far. All of this while Jace was in the car. Wow.

@KiraCostello: This is honestly the hardest episode ever to watch. Like way harder than Ryan passing out at the wheel bc there is a kid in the car.  Jenelle has lost her mind. I worry for the kids more if the cameras are down though. #teenmom2

@ruedeveraux: Jenelle pulled a gun on someone on *their* property, then gets off easy with the cops. All I could think about was Philando Castille. #TeenMom2

@amyums22: I don’t usually tweet about tv shows, but I just watched some fucked up shit on @MTV ! Not only did a woman chase down a tailgater to his house with her 10 year old son in the front seat; she then backed into his mailbox and pulled a gun on him! And she was SO SHOCKED when she got pulled over, she started crying. With a loaded weapon next to her right hand. The cop just said “ma’am I see your fire arm, please don’t touch it”. OH MY GOD THIS SHIT IS FUCKED UP BEYOND BELIEF!!!!!!! #teenmom2 jenelle

DC SocialPulse: The Challenge Final Reckoning - The Game Gets Twisted

*** Advisory: DC SocialPulse contains adult language, objectionable content & spoilers for some readers. Viewer Discretion is Advised. Due to its length, take frequent eye breaks if you're reading this top to bottom. ***

BY DC CUEVA

As all of you enjoy this summer's Saturday night - UFC/boxing cards, Manchester United vs. Liverpool at the Big House and the beginning of the Jay-Z/Beyonce tour, we bring you all in to the Pulse of The Challenge: Final Reckoning, and to what many say is Part 3 of the Premiere... and finally we find out what this twisted game is all about in South Africa.
   Last week, we saw Kayleigh & Kam find about their fates when they were paired up upon the news of their partners, Kailah and Melissa, being sent home for their week 1 fight. There was also drama both in the main house and in Redemption with Bananas gaining a new love interest and Angela going off just as she did on Ex On The Beach and Bad Girls Club, and Britni and Chuck having to deal with unresolved feelings. And oh, there was our first daily challenge with Bananas finally taking part when he found that his partner was Tony.
   At night's end, Brad & Kyle became the season's first power team with control of the game in their hands, and this week they get to sit back, relax and not have to worry about a single thing as the game gets turned on its head a few times with the revealing of a few twists that will sure set the tone for the rest of this season. Meanwhile, lots of drama is taking place with a man who had his fair share of girl drama in Britain taking his talents to American screens, while two another guys who's been at the heart of the drama also find themselves in those too.

We'll have all the action, reaction and interaction from Challenge Tuesday & the aftermath ahead here, along with some of The Challenge's finest joining the hosts of MTV's love fests, Romeo of Ex On The Beach and Terrence J. from Are You The One, and Ludacris for Celebrity Fear Factor.
   All of that is ahead on the Pulse of The Challenge. It's great to have you with us tonight.

DC ExtraTime: Who Is THAT Voice of Ex On The Beach?

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

For someone who not only covers MTV Reality for this very site, this blogger is someone who also watches a lot of sports television outside of my primary beat. And I also am a news junkie, though the interest is more tilted towards local news than national news or the cable channels, and who even samples what newscasts are like outside where I live. And if you live in the Bay Area like I do, you're used to some of the best local news coverage anywhere in this, the nation's 6th largest market.
   Something I have a fascination with in TV land is voiceovers: those who watch NBC's Olympics coverage, Showtime, Nick at Nite and classic rock radio show Flashback are used to the familiar tones of Bill St. James. Those who've been watching local news coast to coast since the early 80's have likely heard their newscasts being opened by the "God-like" baritone of Charlie Van Dyke. In Miami, the voice of Scott Chapin is synonymous with WSVN 7 News embracing the "If it bleeds it leads" approach to crime-driven, sensationalistic local news. And when HBO's Hard Knocks returns next month, there's no soothing voice to sports TV viewers than that of Liev Schreiber's.

For those who got to watch an eventful and entertaining first season of the U.S. adaptation of Ex On The Beach this spring, they know that ten singles moved into the house to start with, and a total of fourteen exes invaded Hawaii by the time the last crush ceremony brought the curtain down a month ago. Those who watch the entire Trifecta of this, Are You The One? and The Challenge/Real World franchise know that several alumni of those shows were on this most memorable season, and along with other reality alumni and ordinary Millennials gave us a rookie season to remember. And judging by its success, we should have another go-around of this in the not-too-distant future.
   Three of the originals and one of the exes -- Angela, Faith, Paulie and Derrick H. -- flew straight from Hawaii to South Africa to be part of the ongoing drama that is Final Reckoning -- with the ladies and the Big Brother alum already making noise in the first three episodes. One of those who took part on the first Champs vs. Stars last year, Romeo Miller, served as host as he juggled this gig with spots on Growing Up Hip Hop and Famous In Love -- including being on both MTV and on Freeform at the same time on Thursdays this spring. And yes, he, competed against AYTO & SafeWord host Terrence J. and four Challengers on Celebrity Fear Factor this week.
   But ask anyone who watched Ex On The Beach and those casuals who stuck around after Jersey Shore, and they'll tell you that Season 1's unsung hero is someone who wasn't an actual cast member or the emcee. That title belongs to the man who provides sly and often hilarious commentary in transitioning between scenes in Hawaii. It's the same thing that takes place on the original British version of EOTB -- something you always don't see on other reality series, other than for Siesta Key where each cast member of the modern-day Laguna Beach got to take turns being the voice of reason... quite literally.

MTV Reality: Floribama Shore -"To Hunch or Not to Hunch?"

Hello, and welcome all to... almost the end of the week -- and it means, it's time for us at DCBLOG to go Inside MTV Reality - and ahead: big twists rock The Challenge, a Teen Mom's road rage, and much more. But amidst this packed week - the return of Jersey Shore, Team MTV on Fear Factor, our first look at Season 7 of Are You The One and Zack Holmes' Too Stupid to Die, we're pleased to kick off things a day earlier than normal with the goings on down by Floribama Shore.
   Last week in Panama City Beach, an unresolved issue from last summer came back to bite them when harsh words saw Jeremiah and Codi find themselves at odds yet again. After a prank over the bags saw Nilsa and Kortni get into it, a second prank saw the house be put into a high state of alert over, of all things, Aimee's toothpaste. And by the time our friends returned to the beach house, Nilsa's search for the right guy found itself in the arms of one guy named Gus.
   And after that kiss on the ride back home, this week sees whether or not Gus and Nilsa are officially a couple or not. With all of what we've seen with the group going out to party each night in the Panhandle, one of the girls finds themselves in a state of nausea and it could be more than just a simple hangover. And when the birthday festivities for the resident bromance rages on, ...yes, another one of THOSE moments we had a couple times last December takes over them.

After the jump, all the action, reaction and interaction from Floribama Shore Monday, plus a visit with some California babies. We're pleased to have you with us on this Thursday.

DC ExtraTime: Team MTV's Trophy Stories

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

The 2018 Summer of Sports has seen it all: the arrival to Tinseltown of the NBA's biggest star to challenge a Bay Area dynasty during a chaotic opening to free agency; Justify becoming the 13th horse and second in four years to win the Triple Crown; Bryce Harper winning the Home Run Derby and a carnival of home runs in last week's MLB All-Star Game, and Tiger Woods falling just short of completing his comeback in a valiant effort at The Open Championship last week in Britain. And today marks two years to the first gold medals being awarded at the 2020 Toyko Summer Olympics, all during the last week without pro, college or high school football taking place in America.
   Amidst this backdrop - and as The Challenge Final Reckoning just continues to get turned on its head, we'd like to share with you two stories of when two trophies that have been handed out this summer found itself in a bar and in the hands of two MTV Reality alumni. One has a bevy of history behind it and is one of the hardest trophies to win in sport, while the other was the object of everyone's affection during an incredible month of football in the world's largest country. And the alumni featured here are those who had her heart played with in Hawaii, and another who just made headlines this past week for getting replaced by a politician's daughter.

DC ExtraTime: A Pop Star, A Prankster, and Shiggy... and Team MTV Too

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

Part of what makes DCBLOG's view of MTV Reality different is to make our posts covering The Challenge & Real World franchise, Are You The One?, Ex On The Beach, the Shore franchise and everything else appeal to everyone. We have in mind the hardcore fans who watch every episode and who enjoyed last week's veterans' Instagram takeover, and the casual viewers who followed the fortunes of those on shows where they made their reality debut and who are now part of The Challenge family, who in turn are bringing those fans to MTV for the first time.
   Through our original storytelling franchise ExtraTime - which appears during our weekly episode coverage, one of these instances is to link the current pop culture landscape to the hundreds of people who are part of this family. Everyone from Floyd Mayweather and Jerry Springer to the Jersey Shore cast and our President have all been featured in our posts... if you have any favorites from TV, music, movies or the sports world, chances are they have met up with an MTV cast member or alum - and we feature them regularly here to help broaden this site's appeal.
   For this first instance this summer of pop culture colliding with the MTV family, there are three: one - one of the world's biggest pop stars and who proved that girls can rock; two - a eccentric man who was part of one of MTV's most controversial & successful series; and three - a man at the heart of the latest internet craze which helped to fuel the #1 album on earth.

DC WRAP: The Challenge Final Reckoning - Through Two

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

As we welcome you all back here, the first two weeks of The Challenge Final Reckoning has already featured plenty to talk about. So far, we had a fight in the premiere that cost two players their place in South Africa and causing a mixup in their partners, the question of who was going to be the partner to a six-time champion, and the revealing of several twists to come to this game which will sure set the tone of this season. And in one of them, we've already had drama with the two exes who take up residency in Redemption having to deal with each other again... and we're not yet at the first elimination battle of this season where things are ready to blow up again.
   We were slated to do our usual Things to Know recap covering the first two episodes, but because our focus this coming week is on getting our long-promised Reality Debrief up - that will now be part of next week's posts instead when we'll have a couple big twists to drop on the game. But coming up, we'll head inside the Strategy Room to discuss the changes in this season's roster and how things might shake up, and how the Redemption'ers might get a leg-up on the competition down the street. Then, we'll have a look at how one of those living in that small villa is doing something good that will make you appreciate her even more... that's all to come on this week's WRAP.

Well, hey there folks... glad you're enjoying your Saturday night activities, and if you got time on your hands, let us at DCBLOG bring you the Pulse of The Challenge: Final Reckoning, as it enters week two in South Africa.
   Last week, the competition began as 14 competitors took part in an opening challenge that also doubled as a purge to see who can dig up a casket with their 14 counterparts being buried alive, which was the only way they could find out who they have to deal with in order to win $1 million. In the end, Zach & Amanda took the win, while Britni & Chuck, Jemmye & Jenna and Champs vs. Stars II's Jozea & his Big Brother vendetta Da'Vonne were sent into Redemption, and everyone was left to dig up Bananas as the last competitor and who doesn't have a partner.
   At the end of that, Kailah and Melissa got into a physical fight after not being able to get into it at the Vendettas reunion, which meant that they were on the way out... and this week their partners, Kam and Kayleigh, will find out whether they will get shipped out or not. For the man who now has a post-SNL date come this fall, Johnny will find out who he will be partnered up with this season as the first regular challenge takes place - with talk of rings. And for a couple whose breakup is still fresh, they are the focus of the activities taking place in the other house, with another twist there too.

We'll have all the action, reaction and interaction to Episode 2 of Season 32 coming your way here, plus more praise for one of those who's doing something good here this summer, one who is part of the big romance of this Challenge world defends her critics, and we'll meet some friends down in Florida after the diary.
   All of that is ahead on The Pulse of The Challenge... glad you're here.

Happy Saturday to you, and welcome back all as we kick off our look at this week in The Challenge. We'll have our look at Week 2 of Final Reckoning ahead as the action takes place on the field and the drama takes over both the main villa and the Redemption House. Until that post comes up later tonight, indulge yourself in the In-Between interaction of cast and alumni from this past week, including one of the subjects of this week's ExtraTime to come during our review of this week later.

DC ExtraTime: Angela Strong

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

Last week, Challenge fans who have been on this ride for the entire 20-year run were given a special gift when the competitor with the longest lineage of anyone on Final Reckoning, Shane, asked old-timers from back in the day to pop in on his Instagram takeover. If you haven't had a chance, open up the IG app on your phone and check out those we haven't seen on these shows in years say hello to fans for the first time... and chances are, we have featured them in our posts here.
   Next month will be five years since the most devastating news ever for Jay G. from Real World Ex-Plosion when a call he got from his dad back home left him in tears: his mom, Lucy Mitchell, died unexpectedly after a several years' battle with Breast Cancer. Last week came two devastating pieces of news from two people from different worlds: first, one-half of the duo who made Olympic history becoming the first Americans to win cross-country skiing gold, Kikkan Randall, announced that she had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, five months after she and teammate Jessie Diggins won gold in Korea when Diggins' last-second sprint finish netted them Winter Games history.

The other person who bravely announced a prognosis with this disease is someone who older MTV fans can remember from long ago. Angela Trimbur appeared on Road Rules X-Treme in summer 2004 as a replacement roadie who joined Challenge Mania's Derrick Kosinski and the cast who rode that RV in South America, was part of the series' last-ever handsome reward, and then competed on Battle of the Sexes II.
   But for someone whose aspirations was not on spending the next decade with Bananas and co., her MTV stint served as a springboard to success for her in the entertainment industry afterwards in following through on her dreams to be an actress. She got to do improv with the Upright Citizens Brigade, guest spots on CSI, Entourage and Workaholics, playing Harley David in Halloween II, Tina in The Final Girls and various other TV and movie roles. And she's on a celebrity basketball team alongside Aubrey Plaza from Parks & Recreation and Legion.
   More than a week ago, Angela took to Instagram to share a photo from the doctor's room before she went for a regular checkup, and the news she received would change her life. The caption on @AngelaTrimbur read, "My dear friend Josette took this photo of me moments before the doctor came in to tell me my biopsy results: that i have breast cancer. I am still in such shock and extremely nervous for the journey. I will need to have my breast/s removed soon and eventual implants to replace. Possible post chemotherapy tbd hopefully not. I want to share this life event to feel less alone and find strength in the love & support of others who care."

Like so many others who have gone through an experience millions of American women have gone through, Angela was in stunned by this prognosis but like anyone who's been in many comedic roles in her post-MTV career has remained upbeat - even having some Starbursts candy. As of now, her eggs have been freezed ahead of having surgery early next week to have her breasts removed, followed by treatment and waiting for the doctors to tell her if that cancer has spread. And if needed, there's the always excruciating process of chemotherapy and radiation that, no doubt, will be her toughest challenge yet.
   Angela launched a GoFundMe effort to ask for the public's help in helping to foot the bill on everything related to the next several months, from surgery to recovery and everything before and after. And nearly 1,500 people have pitched in over $100,000 in the past week to help to these efforts, and the effort is still active at that website. Our thoughts are with Angela as she goes through these next few months with this battle she has ahead of her.

MTV Reality: Floribama Shore - "Dirty But Worth It"

Howdy, and Happy Friday... and we're glad you're here for our trip Inside MTV Reality this mid-July weekend. There's already been a big bombshell in regards to the baby mama drama that blew up earlier today, adding to a week that sees the first regular challenge take place on Final Reckoning - and we'll have more on the ladder to come later. But first: we're off to Florida for Floribama Shore.
   Our favorite Southerners returned last week to Panama City Beach for their second summer stay in this Spring Break town together, and right out of the gate we saw a prank being pulled by the guys on Kortni... which in turn sparked a fight in the house - a familiar sight to those who miss Real World. But, the house then turns up for their first night out a year older - that includes Codi deciding to have a moment in the men's room to throw up as well.
   In the end, the group has a little bit more fun than they should, but that's okay - it is the start... and this week, we see what happens with our Florida playboy - and perhaps, there could be two girls who could win him over. Meanwhile, the bond between these newly-reunited roommates slowly gels a bit when yet another prank livens the house up again, and words open up some bad blood between two of the roommates.

After the jump, our look at Episode 2 of Season 2 of Floribama Shore, and one of the episode's key figures speaks out. Welcome to the weekend, friends...

DC ExtraTime: Before They Were MTV Stars - Fear Before Floribama

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

In an MTV sense, the past year has been nothing but a resurgence that has taken the channel to the enviable position of the fastest-growing network on cable. Double-digit viewership growth has bucked industry trends and made viewers want their MTV in a whole new way.
   The choice MTV and new channel boss Chris McCarthy made was to send the scripted content it tried out and had little results to its new natural habitat at the newly-launched Paramount Network, and return to what made the channel famous in the first place. That would be non-scripted reality programming that tailored to its younger Millennial audience, as well as relaunch TRL as both an on-air and digital franchise.
   Think about the past year: bosses upped the ante on The Challenge in making two of the three trilogy seasons' final prize pool a cool $1 million and launched a Pros/Stars spinoff series. They relaunched the Shore franchise after years of overseas success and used the massive audience of the return of the Jersey Shore originals and Teen Mom to help launch Ex On The Beach, Siesta Key and two of the shows that are our focus here.
   One of them helped to spur that Family Vacation we just saw down in Miami, while the other helped launch this renaissance. And both are the subject of this installment of Before They Were MTV Stars, where one person who appeared on both of those shows has had something to do with this success.

DC WRAP: The Challenge Final Reckoning - The Girl Fight and Redemption

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

Welcome back blog friends, as we are now into Week 2 of Summer 2018 in MTV Reality, as we're still reeling from what went down last week on The Challenge: Final Reckoning, and preparing for what goes down there tomorrow along with tonight on Floribama Shore. Last week's first act in South Africa saw the competitors who dug up caskets from the ground in the opening purge get a rude awakening in finding who they had to put up with in their partners... only for that to take a back seat to what happened at the end: a fight that cost two ladies their place in the game and possibly, it could lead to their partners getting the heave-ho as well.
   Usually - and in addition to offering analysis and more covering the week's episodes, our recaps will include the Things To Know - the week's top moments from The Challenge and come next month, Season 7 of Are You The One? - Season of Fate. But as is our custom for whenever episodes leave on a cliffhanger, the original half of our weekly episode coverage is tabled over to the recap covering the following week's episode. So if you're looking for stuff like the Purge and the rest of the house drama that took up the rest of the episode time before the fireworks went off, we will instead be covering that on the Episode 2 recap along with a review of this week's activities.
   As for this first original episode post of Season 32, this WRAP will focus on two of the key talking points of the premiere: the fight with Kailah and Melissa, and a familiar twist from last year that wasn't brought up in my season preview but will sure make the game we're in more interesting as this drama plays out over the next several months. We'll also delve into one of reality TV's most revered series, more life-changers for Team MTV and "Summer's Biggest Blockbuster"... that's all ahead.

DC SocialPulse: The Challenge Final Reckoning - The Premiere

Wherever you are around the world, it is World Cup finals weekend, and as soccer's greatest event draws to an end in less than 24 hours with a David vs. Goliath matchup, the summer in now just starting as we kick off the second half of 2018 in MTV Reality with an epic premiere week. Earlier, we brought you the fun and little dramatic opening salvo of Season 2 of Floribama Shore... now, we're at the main event with those our favorite Southerners got to party with before the countdown began in earnest for what's about to go down here.

That would be Season 32 of The Challenge, and it marks the climax of a three-part, year-long journey that began a year ago this coming week when XXX: Dirty 30 welcomed the MTV Trifecta's dirtiest players to Colombia and saw plenty of drama that, in the end, had a controversial ending. Then, many of them made their way to Spain, where five British imports and two from a summer TV tradition awaited them for Part 2: Vendettas... and a worldwide audience became first-time witnesses to the kind of drama and action that can only take place in this arena.
   Now, Part 3: Final Reckoning, as those who have had bad blood during the course of this trilogy, as well as several exes straight out of Splitsville, a Champs vs. Stars competitor with his Big Brother vendetta, and a few just off the plane from Hawaii from the hell in paradise that was the American version of Ex On The Beach. And this week, it all begins as the competitors are brought to South Africa to be dared to settle the score in front of TJ Lavin, and with the goal to make it all the way to the end. And as it was last summer, $1 million is on the minds of everyone, with the grand prize being winner-take-all at season's end.
   Just as it has been throughout this trilogy, an opening Purge will test the competitors in right out of the starting gate, with those who finish last on their way out just after they arrive... or so, they think. Then, once the competitors get settled in their estate, some belated fireworks just after the 4th of July explode in the house, and it may cause their Challenge to end before it really gets started.

Coming up, all the action, reaction and interaction to this first act of this latest season of the fifth major pro sport, as well as the aftermath of what goes down at the very end. If you don't believe us, we guarantee your jaw will be dropped by the time this diary ends. And during this time of year where everyone is celebrating that special moment in the summer sun, afterwards we will send our congrats out to those who have had babies and have donned wedding rings during the ladder part of the first half of the MTV year.

DC ExtraTime: Summer Break - Cliff Diving with TJ (of Winter Break)

Amidst this madness of Premiere Week and the launch of the month-long countdown to Are You The One? Season 7 along with the first half of this year, it would be easy to forget that there are other shows to look in at besides just The Challenge, Jersey & Floribama Shore, and Ex On The Beach. And the journey that involved one of those other series began last fall and has been on more of a roller coaster ride than your usual MTV reality series.

If you remember watching Fear Factor last year, the season finale of Season 1 saw Bananas, Laurel, Leroy and Aneesa face off against four relative unknowns from a show that didn't air on MTV for another six months: Marc, Carissa, Alessandra and J-Brew of what would become Winter Break: Hunter Mountain. The genius behind Jersey/Floribama Shore, Sally-Ann Salsano, brought a show and formula synonymous with the beach to the snow and the Catskill Mountains, where there was a lot of drama taking place with them, TJ, Taylar, Jillian and Sheen.
   TJ (Angus, not TJ Lavin) found himself in plenty of drama during their stay in the winter cabin in Hunter Mountain, starting when he opened up about his experience serving as a serviceman in the Army, him having a girlfriend back home, and drama with Alessandra and Jillian that even spilled over into the Twitter-sphere. And as he waits out this long summer to go back into snowboarding following what we saw on that short but sweet season north of the Big Apple, TJ is keeping himself busy with a rite of summer of going diving into a lake... only this one is more adventurous.

Old-time sports fans who remember watching ABC's Wide World of Sports in the pre-ESPN age saw the sport of cliff-diving: a sport that's not for the faint of heart being brought from the springboards and platforms to the cliffs of Acapulco, Mexico, and at higher elevations than in the most dangerous of all the summer Olympic sports. A group of divers based in that Mexican paradise dive from 30-40 meters above the sea down into La Quebrada, and high diving is now featured in the Red Bull action sports series and at the FINA World Aquatics Championships sharing the same worldwide stage as diving, swimming and water polo in between Games.
   Whether it's warmer or colder, TJ frequently travels with friends who share that passion for activities that get the adrenaline pumping... and in this case, it's going all the way down 35-110 feet into the waters below for the thrill of it - the most dangerous activity anywhere which often claims lives when not done properly. Last week, a YouTube video was posted at NoahMouth that saw TJ join more than 80 other cliff divers from home and abroad to his Vermont backyard, down to Tennessee and everywhere in between to take on the task of diving off of some of the most beautiful waterfalls and quarries anywhere, from North to South.
   The last scene before the credits features TJ throwing the bird at the camera, and the video caption adds, "This has truly been one of the craziest trips yet for sure!!"  As they always say, please do not try this at the nearest waterfall.

For the handful who watched that show including this fan, due to matters beyond everyone's control Winter Break: Hunter Mountain had a short run on MTV and MTV2 and it led to only my second time binge-watching most of a season of a TV series. We've archived all those posts from that Binge-Fest of five episodes that aired on Final Four Saturday in late March, and we'll share that here later during this cycle (Don't go in on us... it is, after all, winter in the Southern Hemisphere and at last check snow was falling at Thredbo Mountain six hours south of Sydney).

MTV Reality: Floribama Shore - The Season 2 Premiere

*** Advisory: Running diary below contains adult language, objectionable content and spoilers for some readers. Viewer Discretion is Advised. Due to its length, take frequent eye breaks if you're reading this top to bottom. ***

If you're just chilling on this Saturday, then we're glad you've taken some time out of your weekend for our look at Week 1 of the Second Half of 2018 in MTV Reality. Ahead: fireworks and twists abound as a chance to go for $1 million beacons for our latest group of Challengers as they embark on their Final Reckoning, but first: something else that's familiar is back, and it's bigger than ever.

On the heels of what we got to enjoy this spring with the originals of Jersey Shore returning for a Family Vacation in Miami, the attention now turns up the way to Panama City Beach in Florida's Panhandle as a new season of crazy gets underway with Season 2 of Floribama Shore. Last season saw lots of fun, lots of drama and love too take over their house by the beach. From a couple bar brawls to a brother hookup, parents getting turnt up to new single life, we saw a whole lot as our Southern friends showed us how to party.
   This week, it all begins again as Aimee, Candace, Codi, Gus, Jeremiah, Nilsa, Kirk and Kortni return to PCB for another summer at the shore. And something a bit familiar from watching our Jersey friends as well as during many Real World seasons past breaks out when pranks go wrong, everything boils over. But, the castmates are ready to enjoy their first night out a year older as they take in all of what makes this vacation paradise so good, and party up in a way only they can. That includes even having to have a moment in the men's room and still not miss anything.

After the jump, we return to Panama City Beach, Florida for the madness of Floribama Shore, again... plus a Real World gives his thoughts on the world of catfishing. And welcome back to the beach, and welcome to the weekend...

Hello friends, and welcome to this week's ride Inside MTV Reality amidst a packed and historic time. It is Premiere Week as three of the channel's most-popular franchises: The Challenge, Catfish and Wild 'N Out - debut new seasons, as well as for one of the biggest hits of the past year, Floribama Shore, and its second season premiering. Amidst this backdrop, we are kicking off our blog wave a day earlier than usual before we offer our traditional episode coverage coming up at the weekend.

If you are one of those who has a Twitter app (and most of you do if you watch these shows), not only are you enthralled by the interaction that takes place during that one hour of television each week, but also in the time before showtime. That's what those of you who interact with MTV Reality cast members do, most especially The Challenge, and our DC SocialPulse diaries has offered you this glimpse to everything that happens there, which we have offered to you since the beginning of our MTV coverage five years ago.
   Social media now plays an even bigger part in these modern-day Challenges than they were back in 2013, and in the lead-up to this past Tuesday's Final Reckoning, a lot of drama went down in the Twitter sphere. There, plenty of fireworks took place among those who are on this cast of presently 29 contestants, and those not in this week's opening mission but connected in some way with the cast - including unfinished business that took place with one of the rookies and an ex she saw during Ex On The Beach this spring, as well as another trying to get onto Season 2 of the UK to US import.

Typically for a packed week, we would nowadays split the diary up into two parts: the lead-up to it from the afterglow of the previous week's episode right up to before it begins. Posts like these are necessary to make sure we save as much time and space in our posts, and in the interest of those who check us out on the various platforms. But this week - for the very first time in the history of DCBLOG, the build-up is so big and so packed that we will be featuring them in TWO posts, with the third one being the charm and the true episode diary.
   Today, we'll have the beginning of the ramp-up to Tuesday's premiere with the beginning of this month of July and of how this road all began, when the cast and first look promo for this season debuted back on June 5th (just two days after the dates of our Epic MTV Super Weekend post). Tomorrow, we'll have Part 2 covering more the action and interaction of the cast as Premiere Night draws closer... and Saturday, the main post itself covering Tuesday's premiere and the aftermath of the events of the opening that will sure set the tone for the season that's to come.
   After the jump, we begin the Road to the Final Redemption on this special two-part Pulse Extra. Enjoy the tea...

DC ExtraTime: The Caucus Challenge - Deception

A Follow-Up to: The Caucus Challenge (Sept. 2017)

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

We hope you, the MTV fans, are enjoying what has already been a big Premiere Week, with the returns of Catfish and Wild N' Out to come, and the countdown now on to Season 7 of Are You The One? - Season of Fate. Last night was the premiere of Season 32 of The Challenge: Final Reckoning in South Africa, and we'll look at last night's explosive opening act here in a few days, along with the debut of Season 2 of Floribama Shore. But to tide you over at midweek, something special...
   Of the nearly 700 posts DCBLOG has done covering MTV Reality since summer 2013, this site has covered every single episode and big moment of the fifth major pro sport and Jersey Shore's Southern cousins, along with Are You The One, Real World and Ex On The Beach, among others. We've also offered glimpses into the people and stories of this special community and the world through this prism, and unique angles into the most buzzed about programming on a channel as young as you are.

But perhaps, in the five years this site has covered this beat like no one does, no single post has had as quite a big impact on fans like you than the story we did last September when we discovered a unique gem in the YouTube atmosphere. There, we traced last year's New York launch tour by The Challenge XXX cast and one of those who met them, a fan of MTV Reality and summer staple Big Brother, Andres Rodriguez, to when he invited his friends in his hometown of Secaucus, New Jersey to do a web series inspired from what they religiously watched those series.
   The Caucus Challenge brought those who Andres knew from high school and their fellow friends from all over this New York suburb known to sports fans where NBA and MLB replay decisions go down there, to the backyard of his house for seasons that film for one day. Then, it is edited in just about the same MTV style to then be posted on his YouTube channel weekly, and it has become much bigger than just a local competition. And our post on this show last fall had a strong personal impact on him and those involved in the series, which is now one of our most-viewed posts on here.
   After Andres took a break from doing these shows for the tall task that is freshman year in college in Orlando, Florida, this past spring over his Spring Break he returned to doing what does best, and again he sent out an invitation to those who were ready to handle what he has in store next. And if the first several seasons provided a good prelude, then they had no idea of what they had in store for what would come in the always intense game of Deception.
