DC WRAP: The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30 - The Finale in Review

BY DC CUEVA

As you get settled back into work and school - or just taking a break from taking advantage of those Cyber Monday deals, we're back as we continue along on our trip Inside the MTV Trifecta after the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Something we're proud to say after all of this is that a long season of The Challenge XXX has finally ended, but not before being a bare witness to so much drama, competition and much more since this ride began back in June when this season was first revealed. In the end, Dirty 30 might've looked like the finale of American Idol or the last moments of the Oscars in the big news that everyone awaited coming all the way at the end of the two-part finale reunion, on top of 17 episodes. And while everyone enjoyed the season as a whole including yours truly, not everyone is happy with how it ended.
As is our custom for the season finale of any of the major series we at DCBLOG cover, coming up on this dedicated WRAP we'll be devoting the whole of this week's review to covering the final of Dirty 30... we'll begin recapping Champs vs. Stars and both last and this week's episodes this coming week along with Episodes 10 and 11 of Are You The One? Season 6 and tonight's premiere of Floribama Shore. See you after the jump as we review the homestretch of The Challenge XXX.

DC FORUM Special: Another MTV Reality Ex-Plosion?

Welcome back again on this Thanksgiving weekend... Back on Black Friday, we focused on the finale of The Challenge XXX and the premiere of Champs vs. Stars, with one person being the focus for unfortunate reasons. Earlier today, we looked at Week 10 of Are You The One? NOLA, and tomorrow night it's the premiere of the new revival of an old favorite in Floribama Shore - the Southern reboot of Jersey Shore. Now, with a recap of the former still ahead, for a moment let's take a 180 and bring you the one post of this week's wave that is sure to offer plenty of tea.

Ordinarily - as we wrote a few weeks ago, it's our vision here at DCBLOG to focus our attention to the shows we are covering and those that are airing currently, and the stories that go along with them too. We don't use this site much for discussing rumors on future seasons of The Challenge or any other series that feeds castmates into the fifth major pro sport until the moment the buzz for those seasons begin. And only when we feel it is necessary do we get to discuss future matters if we consider it big enough of a deal that we should talk about it here.
With that in mind - and with a long Challenge season having just ended, another one wrapping taping overseas and the one in between those two now airing, something has been brewing around the MTV hotstove in the past week or so. But instead of talking about who is potentially being cast for a show we love to cover here and you love to watch as much as I do, this one is for something totally different - at least to the American audience. But if you're one of those who visit our great site from outside the United States, then it's likely that you have heard of the show that resembles what happened when San Francisco hosted the total reinvention of the OG of reality TV.
The very idea of what happened in the very first Real World season we covered here in Ex-Plosion three years ago and what premiered shortly after in the first season of Are You The One? offers the backdrop for this special edition of DC FORUM, where we'll a look at MTV's international dating series, Ex On The Beach, and our thoughts on the new U.S. version of the show that's currently in production right now, and featuring some very familiar faces. You'll want to join us after the jump for all of the juicy details.

As you enjoy this last day day of the four-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend, welcome back to DCBLOG's trip Inside the MTV Trifecta, as we turn from having covered a Double Shot of The Challenge on Friday to now bringing you our look at Are You The One? Season 6, where things have been getting serious as of late as the number of tries to get to 11 lights get shorter.
As we left New Orleans last week, Keith & Alivia had broken up with their crushes and paired themselves up not only in the Truth Booth but also two times before and on their date, and yet came away empty. But he wasn't the only who was feeling the heat: Malcolm had to face his two crushes for playing them, while heartthrob Michael found himself in the middle of a love triangle as Audrey saw him make love with Geles.
As the house has finally gained the kind of momentum from a good Matchup (5 beams) that usually leads to good things in the past, this week they are given the opportunity to let loose at a wild Mardi Gras party. But then jealousy takes center stage there when one girl becomes a prime target when she tries to make moves on multiple guys... and this comes just after her crush gets caught in the act. Another guy finds himself on the bad side, but will momentum stick for the house?

All the action, reaction and interaction of the week in AYTO land awaits here, along with for this week the Match Math of where the game stands.
Mardi Gras, big-time drama and the particulars of the 8th Truth Booth and Matchup by the Bayou... It's all ahead on The Pulse of AYTO Season 6, as we continue our trip Inside the MTV Trifecta.

DC ExtraTime: Burning Man

Following are excerpts from DCBLOG posts in October 2016 and 2017, reposted in the interest of our readers as part of our Best of DC ExtraTime series this Thanksgiving weekend.

BY DC CUEVA

ORIGINAL POST: October 2016

Labor Day Weekend is always the saddest part of the warmest of the year's four seasons: it's the unofficial end of summer as people flock to the beach one more time, others go on one more family vacation and kids take advantage of those last three days of down time before going back to school. For many years, it has meant spending many hours watching Jerry Lewis host his annual telethon to help kids with Muscular Dystrophy, and for others it means the kickoff of college football. But for 30 years, this 3-day weekend meant to celebrate America's working class has meant another thing for those who like to express themselves in more ways than one.
In a place that seems to be more of a mirage located in an oasis situated in the middle of nowhere, in a desert area 100 miles north of Reno-Tahoe, Nevada, tens of thousands flock each year at summer's end to a temporary community erected in a remote area of the Black Rock Desert in late August for the Burning Man Festival. The event's roots go back to 1986 when a group of friends gathered at a beach near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and burned a 9-foot tall wooden man at a bonfire on the summer solstice on June 21st -- aka the longest day of the year. Those founders had no idea that this gathering would eventually become an international phenomenon.
Commencing on the last Sunday in August and continuing to Labor Day on the first Monday in September, Burning Man is described as an experiment in art and community, all influenced by 10 main principles. Those include, among others, radical inclusion, self-expression, self-reliance, community cooperation, civic responsibility and gifting, as well as protecting the brand from getting too commercialized. There is also a solid emphasis on those who come to the desert to Leave No Trace, making sure the environment trumps all else when it comes to minimize the impact Mother Earth has on this flatland located far from civilization.
This city is full of bold art sculptures, musicians, dance parties, fashion and a temple erected as a mourning place for those who passed or to put to rest personal situations before it sent up in flames on the final night. Also as part of the closing ceremonies that last Sunday is the burning of their Burning Man structure - now 43 foot tall - at the center of their metropolis, connected to the campground by Lamplighters who offer light at night when there's no electricity located anywhere. And on Labor Day Monday, everyone dismantles Black Rock City piece by piece following this week full of discovery, freedom and making new friends as they head back into the real world and live regular lives for 51 weeks until they all reconvene again in the same exact place.
This year's Burning Man Festival attracted over 70,000 people to Black Rock, and the theme of this year's event was "Da Vinci's Workshop." According to Rolling Stone magazine, organizers asked those who made the trek to Northern Nevada to see the similarities between the Renissance era of the 15th century in Florence, Italy and the festival in this temporary city located not far from "The Biggest Little City in the World." The weekly pop culture bible adds, "While the artists and enthusiasts may not have succeeded in starting their own Renaissance, they were able to create a beautiful and imaginative community, if only for a few days."
IG: @MTV_Christina
The last time we saw Christina, it was on The Challenge: Rivals III of her and rival Nate knocking off favorites Cory & Ashley in an all-time elimination upset and then losing the very next jungle. Of course, we best know her as the 11th girl from her original Are You The One? season at this time two years ago, including her much-documented relationship with Brandon and all the guys in the house being spotted with her at one time or another - and obviously her bond with the Goon Squad. But when you see her pictures on Instagram, she is totally in her element when there's music and nothing peace and love - she has a strong love of everything related to the hippie lifestyle.
Christina summed up her experience at Burning Man this way after her first trip there last year: "Life at @burningman was so blissful and beautiful. Go, experience what the wordl could be like in a community that actually makes sense." And after her second week-long stay in the Nevada desert in September, her Instagram caption that accompanies the picture above reads, "Nothing and everything makes sense here. It was a sad goodbye for sure. My second time on the playa was definitely something special. Counting down the days till next year. )'("
IG: @ParisEike
She was joined for this, her second trip to the Northern Nevada desert, by a fellow alum from her season 2 grad class and from what seems to be the hub for AYTO casting - Denver, CO. Paris was a daughter of a model and a football player who's beautiful and tough who juggled with several guys before moving into the house in Puerto Rico. She and Florida guy Pratt clicked from the very start but in week 1 they did all they can to avoid getting put into the Truth Booth. Eventually they were put in shortly after and emerged a perfect match, all in the same week as the first AYTO blackout: no lights gained at a matchup ceremony which under the current game setup would've seen their cast lose $250,000 and got two of them (if this twist used on Seasons 3 & 4 would've been in play they would've lost $500,000 and won just that much in the end).
Paris had the opportunity to experience the Burning Man Fest for the first time this year and she captioned on Instagram, "You don't know home until you actually find it! What a mind boggling, altering and enlightening place." If you're someone who has a passion for being yourself, then it's Burning Man that should be on your bucket list.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you from all of us at DCBLOG, and as you all enjoy this weekend with family and friends and settle down to food, football, fun times and shopping with those you love, we are have taken a break from the madness of Black Friday and from enjoying those leftovers as we bring you a packed week in the MTV Trifecta, beginning with a Double Shot of The Challenge.
First, after a long season that started back in July, The Challenge XXX finally reaches its climax as we find out who wins the biggest first prize the show has ever handed out. Additionally, the Dirty 30 competitors will continue to discuss and dish out the best of the season that was: from rivalries and salvaged friendships, to scandalous hook-ups and secret alliances... from one between two veteran ladies to words between a veteran and an upstart.
Then, the focus turns to the second installment of The Challenge's special spinoff series. This time, it's Champs vs. Stars, as the likes of Bananas, CT, Wes and beast-mode competitor Emily turn their attention to facing off against all-stars. This time, it's professional athletes, Olympic medalists and high rollers from the entertainment world in high stakes all with both personal bragging rights and charity. And yes, one person finds themselves in the drama too.
Coming up, all the action, reaction and interaction of this Challenge Double Shot, as those of us who've been waiting for the end will finally get there, and those wanting something fresh await Champs vs. Stars. And after the MEGA diary, as the long holiday weekend rolls along on this Black Friday, we'll have a very special guest appearance by the Elf... but it's not Will Farrell. Find out who in Team MTV is in love with Christmas.

First, as we transition in from a long season of Dirty 30 to Champs vs. Stars… if you happen to join us here for the first time - then welcome in and get yourself comfortable. If you're a fan of the fifth major pro sport or any or all of the shows we cover, then DCBLOG is the place for those who want more from the MTV Trifecta. The 'Pulse is an signature feature presenting the other show that takes place concurrent to the madness of what we see on the episodes each week: social interaction between cast, alumni and fans from Twitter as part of the unique, communal viewing experience.
Presented each weekend as part of our weekly posts, these exclusive running diaries are specially designed, curated and pieced together tweet-by-tweet by me, DC, in real-time and unfiltered to bring the hookups, drama, action and all else to you here. This is a service to all fans -- both those who just want to relive the action, reaction and interaction, and others who didn't experience the buzz at the time of its original airing and are here to catch up for the first time, posted to you here after it airs on TV and carefully compiled while you're catching up on it all between then and now.
The Pulse is only part of DCBLOG's look Inside the MTV Trifecta and all-encompassing and top-class coverage: we also have Wraps of all the episodes, thoughtful & in-depth analysis, and our other important element of original stories called ExtraTime going beyond the screen to focus on the people and stories of TV's most fascinating reality ecosystem. And this longtime MTV fan who loves these shows as much as you do and who's good friends with a lot of the castmates, proudly brings you unique, insightful and distinctive coverage right here.

Now, let's get down to the business at hand: the following are the actual tweets of the cast, alumni and fans as we got to see the premiere, along with the buildup to, and the aftermath of, the first episode.
• As we begin, please note there is explicit language in many of the tweets below, but they are kept uncensored in order to retain the heat of the moment. So if you are mature enough, please read with discretion. :-)
• Plus, if you haven't watched the episode yet, then do not proceed with reading this post. But need not worry...DCBLOG will compile all of these tweets into these posts after every episode so you won't be in the dark of how your favorites saw this all unfold.

The final act of a long season, and the first act of the second grudge match... It's all ahead on this Double Shot of The Challenge Pulse, as DCBLOG takes you Inside the MTV Trifecta.

DC ExtraTime Revisited: Nia and Jake

The following contains excerpts from DCBLOG posts during Real World seasons 31 and 32 from last year, reposted in the interest of our readers and updated to include additional media.

As you celebrate Thanksgiving with your loved ones, DCBLOG is marking this holiday by today offering you a selection of the best stories from DC ExtraTime, this site's distinctive storytelling franchise offering a different look at the people of the MTV Trifecta of The Challenge & Real World franchise and Are You The One?.
Some of the stories we have offered you here offer a sense of inspiration, and on Thanksgiving last year, we shared with you the special bond forged between six-time Challenge champion Johnny Bananas and #1 fan and cancer survivor Kasey Harvey. Meanwhile, another fascinating and inspiring bond involving a Real World and Challenge alum also took place last year that is worthy for us to share with you again while all of you are enjoying this day and night with family and friends and the inspiration that comes with this time of the holiday season arriving.
Here, this is the story of the unlikely bond between Nia Moore of Real World Portland and a two-time Challenge participant, and a homeless man she found on the streets of Atlanta last year that had been stricken with AIDS and leukemia and had lost it all including his job and house, only for the help of crowd-funding sites and God's goodwill to quite literally save his life.

Enjoy this special ExtraTime Revisited looking back at this special bond of Nia and Jake.

DC ExtraTime: Cory's Football Friends

Following is an excerpt from a DCBLOG Pulse during The Challenge Invasion from earlier this year, reposted in the interest of our readers and featuring a key figure from this week's premiere of Champs vs. Stars, which we will cover here tomorrow as this is being reposted on Thanksgiving Night.

At the halfway point of this Invasion final, Cory knows he is in for a battle if he wants to make a run at his first Challenge title. We just saw him struggle with Camila and Nicole, and is in dead last among the guys, but there's still a lot left to go. Often, it's how you close down the stretch that will get you some good luck... take what happened with him & Mitch on Bloodlines when they won the last two regular challenges and made a strong Day 2 showing in Berlin Olympic Stadium to place 2nd in the final. And if he needs some inspiration, Cory can look to the support he has of fans and friends he's met along the way, including two here in ExtraTime.
As we covered here last week, NFL fans starving for something football related this long offseason were afforded the ultimate treat when Philadelphia hosted the NFL Draft on the Rocky Steps at the Museum of Art last weekend. A record crowd of 250,000 packed Ben Franklin Parkway in front of the museum to watch the three days of this annual spring ritual where Myles Garrett was picked #1 by the Browns, where the Bears shocked everyone with the very next pick in trading up from the Niners, and dreams coming true for many college players. And of course, those notorious fans there were given something to boo at in giving commissioner Roger Goddell the appropriate Philly treatment in a city known for booing everyone from their own teams to Santa Claus.
After his original Real World Ex-Plosion season ended three years ago, Cory had the opportunity to soak up the fame a little bit in meeting two NFL stars: one who was a star back then but would have to endure rough waters, the other was just drafted and would begin his ascent to status of a giant in the Big Apple. We've dug up two photos from his Twitter & Instagram @MTVCoryWharton, and given that one has recently changed addresses during this period of free agency and the challenger being in this final, this felt the perfect time for us to share these pics with you.

First, the legend. Ten years ago, Adrian Peterson was in that spot waiting for his name to be called onto the Radio City Music Hall stage. After a solid high school career in Texas, he went to Oklahoma in 2004 and had a record freshman college career: 1,925 rushing yards, 11 100-yard games including 9 in a row, and finishing second to USC's Matt Leinart in the Heisman Trophy voting. After a light 1,200-yard season due to an early injury, in his junior year Peterson's dad, Nelson, was released from prison and was in the crowd when Peterson played Iowa State and in the last drive broke his collar bone when he dove into the end zone for the winning TD. He missed the rest of the regular season but did return for the Fiesta Bowl where he had a TD and 77 yards before Boise State's "Statue of Liberty" play upset the Sooners in what would be his final college game after 4,041 rushing yards.
Peterson would forgo his senior season for the NFL, and his name was picked 7th when the Minnesota Vikings drafted him in 2007, and instantly made an impact in being one who the Purple People Eaters could build their team around. It didn't take long for AP to make his mark: two games with 200+ yards rushing including a league record 296-yard game vs. the Chargers, and Offensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl MVP honors. A year later came his first Rushing Title, including a 192-yard game where he scored the winning TD vs. the Packers, among 1,760 in 2008. Two more 1,000 yard rushing seasons then came, followed by an ACL/MCL injury at the end of 2011. He came back the next season more than strong: 2,097 yards - becoming only the 7th running back in NFL history to eclipse 2,000 rushing yards in a single season. After a late 26-yard run, Peterson only needed 9 yards to break Eric Dickerson's 2,105 mark set in 1984, but as the Vikings were playing for a playoff berth they opted for the clinching field goal and he fell short... but was both the NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
In 2014, Cory had the chance to meet Adrian when the both ran into each other in Las Vegas for Memorial Day Weekend when he captioned, "Ran into Adrien Peterson on the strip, best Running back in the league hands down." But it was during this time that it would all come crashing down: in October 2013, personal matters sidelined Peterson but was later revealed that his 2-year old son was hospitalized and then die from injuries suffered from an assault by the live-in boyfriend of his mom. A year later, he would be indicted on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child stemming from photos posted by TMZ of his 4-year-old son having slash-like wounds after being beat up around a tree for bad behavior. It was front page news in and outside the sports world and a black mark for the NFL, which suspended him for the rest of the 2014 season. He ultimately won reinstatement months later and returned with a strong 2015 season in winning the rushing title for a 3rd title (1,485 yds). But injuries derailed his last season in purple & gold, where the Vikings cut him before a $18 million option would go into effect, and as a free agent, he signed a few weeks ago with the Saints.
And there's another link between Cory and AP: it's been documented, if you've been seeing the challenger's Instagram, about his ACL from all the pictures he's posted there in the surgeries done on his ankle and whether or not it can withstand this final. So far, it has not hampered him, but Cory has something in common with AP as they have had to endure having surgery done on that crucial part of the leg which has meant that when it's torn, the season is done like what we've seen so many athletes go through across all sports. Cory's not alone.

And second, the upstart. Earlier that May of 2014, Cory got a chance to hang out down in fellow future Underdog Tony's home turf of Baton Rouge, LA with someone who had just gotten drafted was spending the last month or so at home before heading up north. Odell Beckham, Jr. attended the same New Orleans high school - Isidore Newman School - that Peyton, Eli and Archie Manning went to, and made his own mark there. While he lettered in hoops and track, it was on the gridiron where he became the biggest star in his school: while he was a QB, running back and cornerback, it was at wide receiver that he excelled: as a senior in 2010, he caught 50 catches, had 19 touchdowns, and joined Manning sibling Cooper as the only two players in history to have a 1000-receiving yard season when he had 1,010.  He stayed close to home in choosing LSU for college and was an All-SEC as a freshman and a leading wide-out in year 2. As a junior, he had his breakout in teaming with future Dolphin Jarvis Landry as one of the college game's top WR duos and both were named All-SEC also. In one of those games, Beckham returned a missed field goal attempt for a record-long 109 yards for a touchdown and held that record by himself until that Kick Six by Auburn's Chris Davis' vs. Alabama saw not only that record tied by surpassed in lore.
Like Peterson, Odell felt three years was enough and after a 2013 that saw him catch 57 for 1,117 receiving yards and win the Paul Hornung Award, he skipped his senior year for the big time, and the New York Giants drafted him 12th in the 2014 NFL Draft. Cory met him just after his Real World ended, and he captioned on Instagram on Draft Day, "With my boy @iam_obj3 down in Louisiana, Tonight we will see what NFL (team) picks him up, either way he's gonna ball out of the league. PEEP the dude in the back Photo bombing the picture though LOL." And he reposted the picture later in the season with the odd local in Louisiana's state capital photo bombing their shot he made a prediction too: "My boy @iam_objxiii should get Rookie of the Year in the NFL and he missed 4 games: BEAST."  Cory was right.
Because of an injury, it took a little longer for Odell him to get into his rhythm, but it was under the Sunday night lights against the Cowboys in mid-November 2014 where everyone got to see OBJ for the first time. Of the 10 catches, 146 yards and 2 TD's that night, the one that brought him into the spotlight was the one where with full extension and diving backwards, he caught it with one hand. It left everyone from NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth to LeBron James to say it's the "catch of the year," and indeed it helped accelerate Odell into another level with a breakout rookie season that saw him garner all kinds of records and accolades, notching his 1,305 yards in 12 games - the 4th first-timer to garner that many receiving yards, and was the landslide choice for Offensive Rookie of the Year, as well as a Pro Bowl selection.
Not surprisingly, Beckham beat out Rob Gronkoski to become the youngest player ever to grace the cover of the Madden NFL video game series when he was named to that honor in 2015, and he slayed the curse generally given to those being on that cover by having career highs in his second season: 1,450 receiving yards, 13 touchdowns, another Pro Bowl and 10th on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2016 list. Last season... only better: reaching 200 receptions in only career 30 games on his way to 101 catches in 2016, 1,367 receiving yards, 10 TD's and a trip to Orlando for the Pro Bowl. And yes, there's also what else we've seen from him on field: getting into it and getting flagged four times in a 2015 game with the Panthers' Josh Norman, fined nearly $50,000 total for two penalties in a blindside hit on a Saints player and another for a dance celebration at Dallas; and catching 33 passes in one minute for a world record attempt at Super Bowl XLIX. And his dad, Odell Sr., was a minor character in the famed book Friday Night Lights which inspired that movie and TV show.

When we first saw Cory working out on that playground in his first episode, everyone knew that not only was he one of those seven chosen to go through the first "twist" Real World, but also he was cast with the spinoff show in mind. Yes, it will safe to admit that he's not performed perhaps as well this season as he has in his first two Challenges, but everyone will remember what you do in the final and he's in his second opportunity to win money. People have been expecting great things from him since he arrived in Turkey over a year ago, and a lot of fans have pegged him to be the face of this next generation of challengers who are now coming into this ecosystem.
Though Cory is still behind in 3rd, there's still a day & a half of this final left and a lot can still go down, and he's taken advantage of giving current guys leader CT the 5-minute time buster after winning the first night challenge and making his seemingly insurmountable lead look closer to him and Nelson. You can't count him out just yet - and things can happen with those comebacks we've seen before, but if Cory comes back and win, that will be fantastic. In having met Adrian and Odell, those two men have gone on to great things on Sundays and Cory knows that if you want to become great, you have to do something great when the lights shine brightest.

DC ExtraTime: Nicole and New York's Bravest

Following is an excerpt a DCBLOG WRAP during The Challenge Invasion
from earlier this year, reposted in the interest of our readers.

For Nicole, she has had a stellar rookie campaign on The Challenge in making it all the way to the end and being this close to the final... that is, what we think it might be. The question now is of whether she overcomes the favorite in Camila after her elimination upset and other fellow Underdog Ashley in the final, and of course that remains up in the air in Thailand.
But we know one thing: she is already a winner in gaining a famous girlfriend in Laurel, and she might be on the verge of big things to come as far as her Challenge career is concerned. And as the lone remaining first-timer left in this season full of fresh faces, she should have my vote for Rookie of the Year when we get to hand out our season-end awards on the mid-year Reality Debrief in about a month from now. But as I always say, first things first comes career, and there's the day job Nicole has in the Big Apple that will make you love and appreciate her that much more.

The Fire Department of the City of New York is the largest municipal fire department in the western hemisphere, and the world's second-largest firefighting force behind only Tokyo. More than 10,200 firefighters, nearly 4,000 EMT's, paramedics & fire inspectors, and more than 1,000 civilians work for the FDNY. And there are 10 divisions, 53 battalions, 255 stations, 200 engines and 143 trucks on standby for a region that has 8 million people living throughout the Tri-State Area.
For the events that took place that September day sixteen years ago, it was the Fire Department who suffered the greatest loss of life of any one family: 343 firefighters and fire chief Peter Ganci perished in the World Trade Center when they fought bravely to not only fight fires inside, but save as many lives as they can at Ground Zero. 9/11 was, obviously, one of the worst days so many of us have ever experienced, but it was when the department's motto "New York's Bravest" meant so much more.

Nicole, 3rd from left, with the female graduate class
(New York Daily News)
When we met her originally on Real World Skeletons over two years ago, Nicole was working as an EMT on Staten Island. This meant that those who worked there had to be strong to handle the rigors of a job saving lives in that part of New York connected only by the Verrazano–Narrows Bridge and the famous Staten Island Ferry...an island with 475,000 people living there including Marie, Mike from AYTO 5, and Vinny and Angelina from Jersey Shore.
Concurrent with being part of this Challenge, Nicole has been working with the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall's Island the past four months. At The Academy, she learned how to respond to fire and medical emergencies, dealing with hazardous materials and to do building inspections in this, the nation's largest city and where there are four other boroughs where anything can possibly happen.
And last week, she and five other women -- Cassandra Colletti, Carla Mendoza, Mickea Pinckney, Shannon Maloney, and Constance Fripp -- joined nearly 300 other Probationary Firefighters for graduation day in Brooklyn as they took their oaths and become the newest members of New York's bravest. Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro noted the milestone of those six women joining a list of a record number of female firefighters--63--in the department's roll call, which also includes 37% of them being of color - reflecting the cultural melting pot New York is renowned for.
Twitter @N_ZanattaMTV
In being the most famous member of her graduation class, Nicole told the New York Daily News"I could not have done it without the women next to me." Queens native Pinckney added, "It was challenging for everyone. I’m proud of myself and everyone who made it." Stories of others going through this coming of age moment also included a firefighter whose dad was killed in the Twin Towers on 9/11, class valedictorian Thomas Butler saying "I think we all hit the lottery" when he dreamt of becoming a NYC firefighter, and 38 military veterans deciding to further their status of being true heroes in becoming firefighters.
Laurel, Jenna and, of course, the Zanatta family were among those in the audience in Brooklyn seeing Nicole go through this moment of becoming a FDNY firefighter. One notable Staten Islander and member of Team MTV who wasn't there in, as we like to say around here, getting set to jet off on a spring vacation out of town, had this to say to her fellow resident:

@MarieeTBD: "Shoutout to @ChallengeMTV @mtv very own @n_zanattaMTV for joining the ultimate #wolfpack ... the #FDNY !!! Represent us ladies Nic!! ðŸ”¥ðŸ”¥ðŸ”¥"
● @n_zanattaMTV"@MarieeTBD @ChallengeMTV @MTV Thank you for that xoxo miss you and I can't wait to start this new chapter :)"

Whether or not we'll see Nicole on a second Challenge after what sure looks to be an appearance in a final in her first season, we will leave that decision in her hands. But she's already winning for taking up a profession that a lot of kids aspire to be: fighting fires, rescuing people when their lives are at risk, and saving lives when the time for help is most needed. There is so much more to the profession that the youngsters think is easy, but it sure isn't. And there comes a great responsibility of donning a uniform tens of thousands do every day in the New York City Fire Department. Now Nicole is one of those lucky people to have that nice day job in the Big Apple.

The Look: Floribama Shore

BY DC CUEVA
■ @DC408Dxtr  TW / IG / YT

Tonight sees the end of something that began when the weather was at its warmest in The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30, followed by the premiere of Champs vs. Stars and tomorrow, we'll be into the late rounds of Are You The One? Season 6But as you all think of the holidays coming in a couple days with Thanksgiving and the joys of the Christmas season, there are some of you who still feel that the warm weather is what you like the most - with respect to the snow. That's what we have for this last post of this week's DCBLOG wave.
As one of the first basic cable networks to produce and air its own original programming, MTV has been a pioneer in the TV industry in making it possible for low-budget series to thrive, and perfecting reality TV before it became commonplace. The impressive resume includes series like Real World, The Challenge, The Hills, Catfish, Jack@$$, The Osbournes, Beavis & Butthead and Remote Control. Music shows like TRL, 120 Minutes, Yo! MTV Raps and Unplugged, scripted fare such as Teen Wolf and Awkward, and the annual Video Music Awards are also very much notable in the channel's body of work.
The success of those shows and many others provide the backdrop for this installment of The Look, where we will look at what is the channel's highest ever rated series, and how a longing for the past and nostalgia are channeling the vibes for MTV's newest series, Floribama Shore.

DC WRAP: Are You The One? Season 6 - "Tale of Two Players"

BY DC CUEVA
■ @DC408Dxtr  TW / IG / YT

As you settle into the year's shortest work & school week, welcome on back to DCBLOG's Inside the MTV Trifecta. Tomorrow, something that started while you were on summer vacation finally draws to an end this close to the holidays as The Challenge XXX will wrap up with Part 2 of the Reunion and the revealing of the top finishers of the $1 million final, along with Champs vs. Stars. We'll have that covered for you here on Thanksgiving weekend, plus a friend of this site will rejoin us to talk about that reunion from her first-hand perspective.
But from the title of this post, our focus for this week's WRAP is all about Are You The One? and Week 9, where this would be where we would be in all-out serious mode to discuss what the cast has to do to get the confetti falling with one more week left. But we're not at that point of the 10th & last Matchup of Season 6 just yet, with seven of those beam sessions behind us, the house having just had their 8th getaway challenge and the singles about to let that guard down for that night out partying.
Coming up in this abbreviated review, we'll recap last week's episode that might've given you reason to play "Playas Gonna Play" from 00's girl group 3LW by the time you finished watching. And along with the game situation and polls, we'll elaborate more on that animal who was spotted inside the AYTO house and show you more of that friend's skills... join us for that and baby news next.

DC ExtraTime: Prosper - 1991

Following is an excerpt from DCBLOG's Pulse of AYTO Season 6 - Episode 9 from earlier tonight, reposted in the interest of our readers and featuring our subject who was briefly featured on Part 1 of the Reunion of The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30, which was covered here earlier this weekend.

BY DC CUEVA
■ @DC408Dxtr  TW / IG / YT

It's safe to say that the AYTO Season 4 cast is the most musically talented MTV cast that we've had in recent memory. There was not one but five people of that cast who have or do music: the one we focused on here last year, Francesca recently released a new EP, while ToriGio and Asaf have done some work too. And we can't forget that Kaylen appeared in a music video featuring 2000's star Sammie. And then, there's the one of our focus here, who we saw hanging out in the VIP section of this week's first half of The Challenge XXX reunion as Tori faced the music in her latest relationship gone bad in Derrick H. from Season 5.

The very first person we featured from that Beam Team on here back in May 2016 was Prosper/"P.Muna" when he got to hang out with Rob Kardashian after the socialite announced he was gonna become a married dad with Blac Chyna and before that came crashing down with him literally breaking the Internet earlier this summer. For Prosper, him hanging out with a member of the first family of reality TV was just the start of big things for him.
He came onto the season as a former college football player having played in his hometown of Albany, NY, but afterwards turned his attention to music. There, he found that he was brainwashed by the lavish hip-hop lifestyle and its emphasis on girls and money. On the season itself, he and Tori were put into the Truth Booth, emerged a no-match in that first week, and while everyone else was being involved in the drama he was in the background for most of the season... eventually going into the Truth Booth and being a late match en route to $750K.
With being a personal trainer on the side and perhaps eager to follow Tori into Challenge world, music is where Prosper's true passion lies, in his moniker P.MUNA. Back early on, he was one of the first to get to know a Pittsburgh rapper named Mac Miller, who has gone on to big things since they met up backstage at an event in the New York State capital in 2011. Recently, he talked to Hype Magazine about his plans for 2018, with him having his eyes on making it big: "I have dreams that I'm destined to achieve so I'm working as hard as possible to make it happen. I want to be known as the best at what I do. I make music. I want to make music that touches people... I want to make relatable music for people in the struggle."
The title of P.MUNA's latest album takes into account the year he was born and, as what we have seen in an MTV show that just wrapped up this past week, of the dope decade of the 90's. Prosper says of his new album, "1991 is like my coming out party. It’s a feeling of growing up in the 90s before social media. I came of age still passing notes but was young enough to adapt to technology when it came. It was a more genuine time because we were kids just living."

Below are two of his tracks from YouTube...

And earlier this summer, P.MUNA dropped the track "Vice City," giving ode to the vibrant lifestyle of Miami and the famous 1980's show set during South Florida's rise to prominence from a retirement and tourism haven into the great city and vibe it has today... girls and drugs included. Fellow Season 4 castmate Giovanni also appears on the joint, which he adds via Vents Magazine"Miami is a very sexy town, and you can lose your way if u don’t know what you want."

Welcome back to our weekly trip Inside the MTV Trifecta at DCBLOG, and while we know that one season is about to finally end in The Challenge XXX, another is starting to pick up team up the way in New Orleans, as Are You The One? Season 6 also heads into the late rounds.
Last week, the exes came calling including one you all got to know in Taylor from Season 5, who is the ex of Season 6 single Joe and made her mark when she and the rest of the exes were being interrogated on their past relationships. But the big buzz surrounded a totally awkward double date with Keith & Alivia and Kareem & Alexis, a switcharoo of exes themselves, which saw the former kiss twice and the ladder in his usual fashion lose it while in the French Quarter.
With the group having to deal with yet another truth booth gone bad in Keith & Alivia becoming the house's 7th straight no-match, the mood is anything but pretty. But this week -- along with the group facing their 7th Matchup, the attention turns from a double date to two players. For one, the heartthrob who's gotten to meet two hot shots during this season finds himself in his love triangle. And for the another, he gets to face the music for his player ways, as the luck the house has been having gives them reason to explore new connections.

All the action, reaction and interaction is ahead for you here from AYTO Wednesday, plus a castmate celebrates a birtjday. And afterwards, ExtraTime will have more on that guy who sat in the Dirty 30 Reunion VIP section and who looks to have his eyes set on taking over the hip-hop world.

The Heartthrob in a Triangle, another Triangle goes to the dogs, momentum, and hip-hop... it's all ahead on the 'Pulse of Are You The One?.

We've arrived at the weekend, and as you all are relaxing or getting some pre-Black Friday shopping done just like my colleague did the other day, you've arrived at DCBLOG as we're about to take you Inside the MTV Trifecta. Ahead: a look at what may be MTV's next big thing, but first it's hard to even believe this sentence, but after everything we have been through since the journey of this season began I was in Disneyland, we are just about at the end of The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30.
In the past two weeks, we have paired down to the final six of Cara Maria, Camila CT, Derrick, Jordan and Tori as they skydived their way into the $1 million final of Dirty 30. There, we saw them tackle the elements and the altitude of the mountains of Argentina as their endurance, skills and the like were tested. But the main star of this was TJ Lavin who, despite not being present, had the last laugh: upon the finish, he told the finalists that they would have to wait to see who wins.
With the players being fully rested from their stay in South America, this week the scene shifts from the mountains of Argentina to New York City for the first of a two-part Reunion. Mike "The Miz" Mizanin begins his stint as host of the rest of this year's Challenge slate as he presides over the discussion as the Dirty 30 discuss all of the explosive, extreme and ex-communicating moments of this season. And it's here where the finalists will find out who will win their share of $1 million.

We'll have all the action, reaction and interaction for you ahead here, along with a birthday for one of Team MTV's finest and yours truly, and words of tribute to the late Diem Brown. And after the diary, we'll head to London as, with the help of one of the first people to discover a British chart topper, we'll catch up with a Real World and Challenge alum who now calls that city home.
The reunion, and whatever happened to ginger's ex... it's all ahead on the penultimate edition of The Pulse of The Challenge XXX... And welcome to the weekend.

MTV Trifecta: Countdown to The Challenge - Champs vs. Stars

BY DC CUEVA
■ @DC408Dxtr  TW / IG / YT

Hello, and welcome again to DCBLOG's trip Inside the MTV Trifecta. In a few days, we'll be along with our look at Part 1 of the Reunion Finale of The Challenge XXX and Episode 9 of Are You The One? in New Orleans coming up tonight. But first here at midweek, we have something special for you to kick off this week's posts as you all begin to think about time with family and friends with more than a week left now until Thanksgiving.

Earlier this year, the fantasy of many fans came true when The Challenge invited ten active and retired athletes from the wide world of sports to compete against Bananas, Wes, CT, Camila and the heavy hitters of the fifth major pro sport, all for the name of charity and pure competition. There on Champs vs. Pros, Darrell and Cara Maria settled unfinished business from when they were first to be drafted and then first to be eliminated on Fresh Meat II to eventually win this special Challenge season for their worthy causes. But the MVP was 3-time Olympian Lolo Jones for overcoming all obstacles and gained everyone's respect winning three eliminations and paying the ultimate deed to her competitors.
Now comes the second installment of this unique special spinoff series which once again will offer the ultimate grudge match to see who is best in this fantasy battle. But this time, along with some of The Challenge's most well-known champions and alumni, the field is expanded to include not only former athletes, but those outside the sports world in entertainers. The field and even the host for this season may have changed, but the premise is simple: challenge-style competitions to determine who reigns supreme and walks away with the $150,000 cash prize, but the real winners are the foundations and causes these people are all passionate about.

Ahead in this preseason post, we'll have a look at the stars who will be facing off against Team MTV and provide some background on all of them, including the man who will host this season, who's hosting the last act of Dirty 30 and whose roots are planted in the Trifecta. We'll also meet the lucky handful who will make up this season's opposition, as this season premieres less than a week from now, just in time for the winter after a Challenge season that started all the way back in the summer.
So as we always like to say here, get out that Under Armour jersey, get yourself set and join in with us as DCBLOG previews The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars, straight ahead.

DC WRAP Double Shot: Challenge XXX Finale Pt. 2 and AYTO Season 6 Wk. 8

BY DC CUEVA
■ @DC408Dxtr  TW / IG / YT

As you wrap up your Sunday and extended weekend, and for yours truly - the beginning of my birthday activities now about to begin, welcome back again as we now WRAP last week in the MTV Trifecta... a week of big time drama and twists for that matter. Last week saw the final play out on The Challenge XXX where we knew at the end of that long trek and long season that we still don't know who will get which of the $1 million under their Christmas tree this year. And over in New Orleans, someone who entertained us returned to the Are You The One? house as the exes came invading.
An abbreviated WRAP here with just an AYTO Things to Know recap and poll results, plus we'll discuss the strange world of connections within Team MTV, as well as a Real World'er being spotted on network television. But first, we'll head into the Strategy Room for a stage-by-stage look at how the Dirty 30 final went for our six finalists... join us here next.

As you enjoy this last day of your extended Veteran's Day weekend, welcome back to DCBLOG's look Inside the MTV Trifecta as we turn our attention from the finale, or at least the finale of the Argentina portion of The Challenge XXX, to New Orleans and Are You The One? Season 6. And as enter this month of November and the cooler weather has settled in, the heat is on by the Bayou.
Last week, the group found themselves with seemingly nowhere to go, and found that if they wanted to make a run at the money, they had to decide whether or not to help the house by getting to know new people. Thus, Anthony & Geles, Clinton & Uche and others do that with a game of Speed Dating, but others like Nurys & Malcolm found each other again, and led Diandra to throw bananas at her, just before Keith & Alexis were sent into the Truth Booth and returned a 6th straight no-match... though the house did get their first piece of good news in a while with a good Matchup.
This week comes perhaps the most entertaining challenge of any season: the exes coming to town to invade the space of the newbies... and, of course, they get to spill some tea to everyone, including one ex that everyone already knows and intent on letting the house know about that relationship. Meanwhile, one couple finds themselves getting pushed to the limit when the couple they go on the getaway date with begin to explore the chance that they could be that one beam and Perfect Match.

All the action, reaction and interaction is ahead here, along with the group's anticipation for traveling to Los Angeles to tape the upcoming reunion special. And on this weekend that sees Eminem and Taylor Swift battle it out for chart supremacy, you don't want to miss what we have afterwards on ExtraTime where we'll be sharing with you a diss track... but not by either of those artists but by the man who was part of Season 4's fan favorite perfect match.

A fan favorite returns, hookups x2 by the same couple, another one loses it again, and Mr. Kowabunga... it's all ahead on The 'Pulse of Are You The One? on this Sunday Funday.

This includes a rather infamous anniversary that took place on the birthday of one of AYTO's recent alums... enjoy that ahead of the main diary that will be up very shortly.

It's the Veterans Day weekend, and it has been an eventful first full week of November in the MTV world: on Monday, there were weddings galore and a new baby for the ladies of Teen Mom 2, and this Sunday music's best will gather in London for the MTV Europe Music Awards. But it has also been a whale of a week for the shows we refer to on here as the MTV Trifecta, as we take you Inside of it here on DCBLOG, starting with the final of The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30.
A season that began back in mid-July and has lasted all of these past four months finally reached its descent last week when one last Purge took place in Colombia: time-tested veteran Derrick K. took care of what was a fairly easy battle to take the last spot for the guys, while in spite of what happened earlier on Camila won over Team Jailah to take it for the ladies. That set up a final featuring them, CT, Cara Maria, Jordan and Tori that began with a skydive 20,000 feet into Argentina.
After a scary landing by the man who also plays a cop in his other Tuesday TV gig, this week sees the finalists tackle the familiar setting of a Challenge final in Lionel Messi's homeland, while seeing them brave the elements and the extreme altitude of this majestic region as they through the mountains of Argentina with $1 million in prize money waiting for them. And at the end of all of this, just as you thought that this was gonna finally be the end of the longest season of an MTV Trifecta series since episodes expanded to one hour nine years ago... think again.

All the action, reaction and interaction of this finale of The Challenge XXX is straight ahead here, along with a birthday for the newest MTV newlywed and more from the lead-in and aftermath of Challenge Tuesday. And afterwards, ExtraTime will venture to a haunted house for a Hollywood party, and is The Challenge ready for an Atlanta invasion? Find out there along with perhaps the most intriguing fact we have of this week's blog wave.
One more time, join us next for the Pulse of the Finale of The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30. And Welcome to the Weekend... #DCBDay Weekend, that is.
