DC SocialPulse: Are You The One? - The Finale

*** Reader Advisory: DC SocialPulse Contains Adult Language and

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr & @DC408dxnow

Welcome one & all to DC SocialPulse and to Episode 10 of Are You The One? as the quest for 20 men & women to find love and share in the biggest prize in MTV's history reaches its climax in the finale of what has been a successful first season of this social experiment that's become my guilty pleasure.
   Back on EP9, the group dressed in white and partied on the beach, while their resident comedian, John, had to come to quips with Jacy & Scali becoming close. We also saw them get down and dirty on the sand as well, along with scuba diving and the Brooklynite seeing a turtle. And the strategy of them banding together with the money in their sights saw more dividends with a 3rd perfect match in the truth booth and one more in the matchup, putting them within two steps of the ultimate goal.
   This week, with the group on the edge of glory, they will try to figure out how to use their last chances to find their match and cash that million. We'll also see Jacy confront her feelings for Scali and for John as the rest of the house will try to get over that last hurdle of solving the last love triangle, along with a rather revealing challenge. And of course, will the group's strategy of banding together and switching up the last two pairs that aren't perfect matches in the next-to-last matchup pay off?
   In addition, this extended edition of the 'Pulse will also feature tweets from the marathon of the show that aired prior to the finale, as well as the weekend before & the day after. Then after that, I'll offer my thoughts on the season in general, the move that eventually determined the outcome and a thank you note to the cast. First...
- 1. Please note there is explicit language in certain tweets below, but I am keeping it uncensored in order to retain the heat of the moment. So if you are mature enough, please read with discretion. :-)
& 2. As AYTO is airing hot off the U.S. presses on other MTV international channels and this episode hasn't aired where you live, please don't proceed with reading this post. But I will be compiling all the cast tweets from when it airs for the first time here into these DCSP posts, so you won't miss a thing of how your favorite castmates reacted to this episode when they get to see them for the first time.

Also, please accept my apologies for me not posting this sooner rather than later as I'm posting this on the Sunday after the finale aired for the first time here. Me being busy, having some writers block in writing the original portions of this post, and understanding that some international fans having not watched it yet are among the reasons why. Again, apologies.

So with that, join us after the jump and see if these 20 awesome people can make the seemingly impossible task possible and make all their million dollar dreams come true.

DC SocialPulse: Real World Ex-Plosion - "It's Go-Go Time"

*** Reader Advisory: DC SocialPulse Contains

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr / @DC408dxnow

Hey there, it's another edition of DC SocialPulse as we cover episode 11, the penultimate episode, of Real World Ex-Plosion. Yeah, good things will eventually come to an end, and next week this unique but awesome season wraps up. As for now, last week an ultimatum by Tom saw Hailey leave the house, while the Jenny & Brian show saw her play more games to manipulate him. There's was more jealousy in the Jay & Jenna saga, while Hurricane Ashley returned for one night only to the house.
   This week, Jenny lands a go-go dancer gig to help ease her financial burden, and a reconnection between her & Cory makes Brian really jealous and brings the two guys who have seen her while she's been in the city finally to blows. Elsewhere as the group enjoys a day in Wine Country, Jamie gets a reality check on her questionable behavior, while Tom pushes the limit at the winery and in the censor's booth. And not forgetting the old-school values of the show, we also see Arielle shoot a film.
   And following twitter's view, we'll be taking a look ahead at what will be an ultra-busy next couple weeks on here, with the finales of this Real World season and Are You The One?, the premiere of The Challenge: Free Agents and other things taking place as we turn the page to April.

First, Just a reminder here that there's adult language in some tweets below, but I am keeping it uncensored in order to retain the heat of the moment. So if you are mature enough, please read with discretion. :-) So, with that, join us after the jump for the penultimate episode of RW Ex-Plosion, along with a convo between one from this season & an alum from five years ago who will return to our screens in just a couple weeks from now. But join us anyway, will you?

DC SocialPulse: Real World Ex-Plosion "Burned to Ashes"

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr & @DC408dxnow

Hello again, welcome to another edition of DC SocialPulse as we cover episode 10 of Real World Ex-Plosion, and we are now in countdown mode with only a few episodes left in what has been an awesome season. Last week, we saw Hailey go HAM on Thomas, the Jay & Jenna saga reach new heights and the "bropocalypse" of Cory & Brian frustrating Jenny.
   And this week, more of the same as those storylines from last week develop. We will see Tom give Hailey an ultimatum to leave the city, while Jenny plays more games to try & manipulate Brian. There's some serious jealousy taking place in the struggling relationship saga of Jay & Jenna, while the one & only Hurricane Ashley makes a return to the house.
   After my episode wrap, I will also address, in an objective manner, a situation that arose on the day of this episode airing about a beef among those on the upcoming season of The Challenge who follow me, and why I always make sure to steer clear of getting into the heat of conflict among feuding members of this community for whom I'm friends with.
   Just a reminder here that there's adult language in some tweets below, but I am keeping it uncensored in order to retain the heat of the moment. So if you are mature enough, please read with discretion. :-) So,  join us following the jump for twitter's view (and my look) of this week's Real World Ex-Plosion, along with info on our upcoming RW Reunion Revealed post.

DC SocialPulse: Are You The One? "White Party"

*** Reader Advisory: DC SocialPulse Contains Adult Language and
spoilers for international readers. Viewer Discretion is Advised. ***

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr & @DC408dxnow

Welcome again to DC SocialPulse and to Episode 9 of Are You The One? as the drama and tension among 20 great people increases and the chances to share in MTV's biggest prize decreases.
   Last week, we saw the drama continue as Kayla & Ryan get into a huge argument that then led to the house turning on her when she revealed a secret that could hinder Amber & Ethan, plus slime and good news in the match department. And we also brought you the cast's attempt to emulate Ellen Degeneres' famous twitter-breaking selfie and other events from their reunion in LA.
   This week, the cast heads to the beach for a White Party and they let loose and enjoy themselves. However, in the latest love triangle in the house, John may have to come to terms with Jacy's increasing feelings for Scali. There's also a beach challenge where the couples will get down and dirty, with sand that is. And after garnering their best number yet in the matchup, will the group get even closer to the big prize?
   Following twitter's view & my thoughts, we'll reiterate the information on how you can get involved in our Reunion Revealed post for Are You The One?, which comes your way in a few weeks' time. First...
But I will be compiling all the cast tweets from when it airs here each week into weekly DCSP posts, so you won't miss a thing of how your favorite castmates reacted to this episode when they get to see them for the first time.
   So with that, join us after the jump for this week's activities in Hawaii.

DC Fan's View: Real World Ex-Plosion After Show #4, & Calling All FansAgain

Views expressed in Fan's View are only those of the interviewees and do not necessarily reflect the viewpoints of DC Cueva or DCBLOG.

By DC Cueva, with Eric Ceballos
> @DC408dxtr, @EricC_Official

Welcome to DCBLOG's continuing coverage of Real World Ex-Plosion, and to the 5th edition of DC Fan's View. In this week's wild 9th episode, we saw Hailey get into it with Thomas, Jay get into trouble with Jenna over a video, and Jenny becoming jealous of Cory & Brian's "bropocalypse." We've had the two best episodes of this season air in back-to-back weeks, and it's safe to say that this Ex-Plosion season now joins that handful of others that I have enjoyed so much it becomes a standout favorite season. And we still have a few episodes left, including the potential of yet another roommate leaving and other things next week. And not to mention, we also had the debut of the trailer of The Challenge: Free Agents as well on the same day.

All season long, we've enjoyed bringing you the thoughts of not just the casts of The Real World and Are You The One? as they saw the episodes on Twitter, but also that of the fans & me as we saw them too. And we have also enjoyed our slate of fan chats which has expanded to also cover the RW After Show, and, of course, we'll be covering the upcoming reunions for both RW & AYTO. We'll have more on how we can involve you in our upcoming Reunion Revealed posts for them at the end of this article.

Today, we welcome back on here my first 2-time Fan's View guest, Eric Cabellos, @EricC_Official. Not only was he in the audience for the After Show for Episode 7 which aired two weeks ago - for which he gave us some great insight, but also after taking a little break, they then did the After Show for Episode 9 on Wednesday. Join us after the jump for Eric's view on this week's After Show with Nessy & friends, and the storylines of episode #9, a dramatic & explosive one to say the least.

DC SocialPulse: Real World Ex-Plosion "Indecent Ex-posure" & ChallengeFree Agents Trailer

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr

How's it going everyone? Welcome again to DC SocialPulse, and another special, extended edition. And after our last DCSP covered this week's Are You The One? and the taping of their reunion last weekend, today we present a double feature to cover not just this week's wild episode of Real World Ex-Plosion & it's After Show, but also the debut of the trailer for The Challenge: Free Agents.
   First up, the legacy series, and last week in the City by the Bay, we saw Jenny go HAM on Brian, Jamie stirring up drama between Jay & Jenna, and Hailey & Jenny hang out with the same German. This week, it's Episode 9 and with the title "Indecent Ex-posure," we will see Hailey's unproven love for Tom blow up, literally, in the second big fight in a week in the house. The cheating ways of Jay in San Francisco are exposed when Jenna finds a online video of him hanging out with another girl. And much to Jenny's displeasure, an unlikely bromance develops between Cory and Brian.
   Following my view of this crazy Real World episode, and what has undoubtedly been a busy week with everyone now knowing why many of my good twitter friends didn't wish me happy birthday last November - and this super fan starting the buzz by posting a few pics of the cast on IG, we'll then take the Pulse of the trailer of The Challenge: Free Agents with the excitement before and after it was released by both cast and fans, followed by my commentary on it.
   Firstour usual reminder that there's adult language in some tweets below, but I am keeping it uncensored in order to retain the heat of the moment. So if you are mature enough, please read with discretion. :-) So with that, join us following the jump for twitter's view (and my look) of both this week's Real World Ex-Plosion and the trailer of The Challenge Free Agents.

DC SocialPulse: Are You The One? "Getting Dumped On"

*** Reader Advisory: DC SocialPulse Contains Adult Language and

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr

Hey everyone, welcome to another edition to DC SocialPulse and our twitter diary of episode 8 of Are You The One?. Last week, the house was reeling from the drama surrounding Chris T. & Kayla being a perfect match setting off fireworks between Shanley & Simone and Shanley being devastated at her man leaving the house, while two potential triangles eventually emerged which may divide the house again.
   This week is Episode 8, and the drama continues, albeit new ones. Kayla and Ryan suddenly find themselves in a heated argument and the hours turns on her when she reveals a secret that could hinder Amber & Ethan. Plus slime makes its way to the house as the week's challenge May question the ability to hang together. And after being unchanged in the match department, and even with the drama in the house, will this week give the group good news in their quest for the cash?
   In addition to covering this week's episode, this extended edition of DCSP will also cover the buzz surrounding the entire cast coming together in Los Angeles for the taping of the Reunion show, which, per twitter, should have plenty of fireworks as well. As we start, our usual reminders that...
But I will be compiling all the cast tweets from when it airs here each week into weekly DCSP posts, so you won't miss a thing of how your favorite castmates reacted to this episode when they get to see them for the first time.
   So with that, join us after the jump for the cast getting together in LA and this week's drama in Hawaii, which also was my first time tweeting at my new live twitter home, DC NOW at @DC408DxNow.

Countdown to Challenge XXV: Let the Countdown Begin

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr

Okay, a spur of the moment post here. And isn't this been the perfect last few days if you're an MTV fanatic like me? It sure has.
   On Saturday, we had the Are You The One? Reunion in L.A., followed the next day by the Real World Ex-Plosion Reunion in NYC (of course we'll be covering them, contact info forthcoming). And on the same day that I announce a new change for me in introducing a new twitter account devoted to my obsessed live tweeting of MTV shows and big events called DC NOW, I also have one of my best-ever moments in the social media world. And in a world where good things come in threes, the third straight day of buzz for my favorite MTV shows was actually initiated by, of all people, yours truly.

Those who work in the demanding environment of the news business always relish the opportunity where they uncover something so big that they get to the story first before their competitors and bring that story to the public first. The accord that ended the Czechoslovakia/Germany war was scooped by NBC News Radio in 1937, ahead of not just its rival CBS, but even the international press. The infamous summer of 1985 of the Night Stalker in L.A. ended when a KNBC camera crew was first to the scene of Richard Ramirez being apprehended.  And earlier today in the wee hours of the first weekday of daylight savings time, it was me, this social media junkie, brilliant blogger and virtual friend of Team MTV, who actually got the buzz for the upcoming season of The Challenge into high gear. And quite possibly, this is my biggest scoop of all.

For those who follow the unique & tight-knit world of The Real World and The Challenge community, there is always a lot of speculation among fans and on the fan forums surrounding who would be competing in the upcoming Challenge, which is regarded by Grantland.com as "America's fifth major sport." And since mid-October of last year, to borrow a piece of baseball lingo, there's been a lot of talk around the hot stove surrounding season 25 of The Challenge, which began taping in Uruguay and ended on the first day of December. Thus, some of my very good twitter friends, who are also part of that cast, weren't able to wish me a happy 30th birthday in November.

This past week, in addition to some great episodes of both Real World Ex-Plosion and Are You The One? and the casts of both shows gathering ahead of their reunions, members of The Challenge XXV cast joined with some alumni and past host Jonny Moseley to do a few of the season's After Shows, which this time won't feature a audience and the set has been transformed into a sports studio show setting. There, inadvertently, one of the hosts, Road Rules patriarch Mark Long, also sparked some buzz when he posted a pic of the set, with the season's title in the monitors, which is "The Challenge: Free Agents."

Then earlier this morning, at about 3:30am when I was awoken by something and couldn't go back to sleep somehow, I actually turned on my iPad and did a little bit of browsing. In one of my tabs, I typed Challenge in the search box on the MTV.com mobile site, different for the MTV.com desktop site. And there, browsing in the menu, I happened to come across the pictures of the Free Agents cast. There, I immediately turned on my bed lights and stood up to some excitement, albeit a quiet one because of the people sleeping downstairs.

I immediately saved all the pictures on my iPad, then using an app, I then made a collage of the new pictures of the 28 competitors, using the same exact placement of all the cast that I did for a teaser composite that I posted on my Instagram just after the Closing Ceremony of the Sochi Olympics (I didn't give away the fact that they were on this Challenge back then). And after several minutes putting it together, before 4:00am, I posted that collage on Instagram, and the buzz finally started.

I then checked the infamous fan forum site VEVMO and found that no one on there noticed it at the time I posted my pic. And then, I then proceeded to post the two full cast photos on my Instagram, and I knew that I was gonna pull off the biggest scoop that I've had in the social media world. And then after sending DM's to a few of my followers about the pictures being posted, I immediately went back to sleep. By the time I actually woke up a few hours later, and even though MTV.com then took down the pics while I was asleep again, the buzz was officially on, getting the attention of TJ Lavin, some of the cast and the numerous fan accounts as they all posted pictures of the cast.

Now, I am one who would absolutely not want to start any drama, I'm that one who prefers to be drama free, and friendly with everyone. But if I wanted to start some buzz myself, then it has to be done responsibly and respectfully. I did the same thing with the great cast of Scrubbing In when I posted an IG pic of them as my iPad lock screen, which got their attention, helped to spread the word about their show and they became great friends with me last year during the RW/Challenge offseason. And I also did the same for RW Ex-Plosion as well, too. For this one, I knew that it was gonna be me - this super-fan - that would singlehandedly help start the buzz for the upcoming Challenge, during a time where people were either waking up out east or still sleeping here out west. I've done my part to help start the buzz, and now we are on the beginning stages towards starting another season of what's arguably the best reality competition show on TV. Let the countdown to Free Agents begin.

As you will suspect, and as we have done very successfully for Rivals II, Real World Ex-Plosion and Are You The One?, DCBLOG will be covering The Challenge: Free Agents like never before. We'll have our one-of-a-kind DC SocialPulse twitter diaries of how the cast, fans and myself will see all of the episodes of this upcoming season, one that TJ has hinted at as his favorite Challenge. While everyone else will be doing their own power rankings and predictions on who will win, our coverage will some of that, but will offer more of a unique perspective as this season unfolds. Here's a preview:
- In case you're new to this world, just as I was when I watched my first Challenge in a while a couple years ago, I'll be posting a primer to introduce you to what the show is about, its history and everything you need to know.
- If some of the people you're seeing this season aren't familiar to you because you might not watch that much Real World, it's because they're rookies, and with my RW experience in tow, I'll again be introducing (or reintroducing) you to them so you never know who they are before the show begins.

And we'll be offering some other things along the way here on the 'Blog as well, and we'll be continuing our Real World coverage into this Challenge as well, in addition to our coverage going on right now of RW Ex-Plosion and Are You The One?.

And in case you haven't known by now, the live tweeting of this upcoming Challenge, as well as the rest of the seasons of Real World Ex-Plosion and Are You The One?, is now living at my new, dedicated twitter account called DC NOW, located at @DC408DxNow. And of course, follow me @DC408Dxtr for conversations with the cast, my usual tweets with fans and followers, and alerts to MTV-related show material & DCBLOG post.
   So, the journey is now underway. For now, until I join you tomorrow for Are You The One? on DC NOW, good night and thanks for reading.

Welcome to DC NOW

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr

With the buzz for three of my favorite shows being in high gear - two coming off of taping their reunions over the weekend, and a third show about to launch today, with a major scoop pulled off by yours truly which I will explain on here in a little bit, it's with this perfect backdrop that now I will be making a big, major announcement on here regarding an evolutionary, but fundamental change in the way I am able to see the biggest events & shows from my point of view. And most of all, it's a game-changer for me. So, here we go...

For the past 21 months since I joined Twitter at this very time of 3 P.M. on June 27, 2012, I've enjoyed a great deal of live tweeting the biggest events and my favorite shows. There's nothing like being able to experience the events as I see them, watching along with everyone else. I've been fortunate enough to be able to watch and tweet some of the most exciting moments, the shows that I enjoy most and being able to talk to so many people. This has spanned three seasons of The Real World and two Challenges, two Olympics, a Super Bowl, major awards shows, other MTV programming and beyond.
   But, in response to an issue I have had since the beginning of sometimes losing followers for over-tweeting & flooding their timelines like crazy during shows & events with both my own tweets & retweets from others, I've thought about this and of ways to remedy this situation over the last week. And now with this announcement I am making right here, I will be making the DC Twitter experience even better, by doubling the coverage that I have currently, opening some new horizons, and changing the way that I tweet about the events and things that I am most passionate about.

One of the things Twitter does best, and does so well, is the interaction that comes when everyone comes together to watch the biggest events on television. Take for example last week's Oscars when Ellen DeGeneres' selfie with celebrities set an all-time Twitter record of over 3.3 million retweets, temporarily shutting down Twitter during the year's most-watched annual entertainment event. Of course, we can't forget about the massive Twitter traffic that's occurred during the Super Bowl, the Olympics, the Grammys and other events. And there has been great twitter/TV show interaction too, including the last Challenge, Rivals II last summer; and right now two of my favorite shows Are You The One? and Real World Ex-Plosion for which all three of them have trended at one time or another.
   Some of my highest one-day twitter traffic, as well as some of my highest traffic during any particular week has come from live tweeting MTV shows and big events, with the largest being Super Bowl XLVII last year, and me being a fan of one team has something to do with that. And now, all of that will have a dedicated home, one that is principally devoted to experiencing the events as they happen.

Starting today, I will be moving my live tweeting of MTV programming and major sports & entertainment events over to a brand new, secondary twitter account called DC NOW, located at @DC408DxNow. DC NOW will be up & running this week, beginning tomorrow night with the rest of this season of Are You The One?, followed the next night by Real World Ex-Plosion. Along with the Sochi Olympics & the Grammys, it has made for a big chunk of my tweets over the past two-plus months.
   Besides those shows, DC NOW will be the home to my live tweeting of The Challenge: Free Agents, including this week's debut of the trailer, and other shows I may discover along the way before The Real World XXX. This will also be where I'll be providing my view of major sports events including the NBA & NHL playoffs, the FIFA World Cup, and football on the fall. And DC NOW will become the place for me to live tweet the biggest entertainment events such as awards shows, concerts & more.
   And from a logistical standpoint, @DC408DxNow will double as an overflow twitter hub for many more additional twitter accounts that I may not follow due to account limits. In the last couple days I have been doing some housecleaning to move some accounts to there so I can follow new ones here.

Above all, there will absolutely be nothing that will change about my original twitter home @DC408Dxtr. This will still be my primary twitter hub for interacting with followers, fans & famous people and it will still be active every day as it has been for the last two years. Alerts to my DCBLOG posts and content related to MTV shows will also be there too. It's just the live tweeting that will move to @DC408DxNow, and this will assure that I preserve as many followers as I can on @DC408Dxtr.
   And as a way of helping direct fans & my followers to DC NOW, I will be posting a DCNow Alert on my my primary twitter hub when I am live tweeting a TV show, sports event or entertainment event. For example, if I'm live tweeting a Real World episode (for PT viewers like me), this is what I will post:
#DCNow Alert: now watching #RealWorldExPlosion. Follow me @DC408DxNow for live tweeting of tonight's episode.

This way, my original account will not over-tweet as in the past. But @DC408Dxtr will retweet certain original tweets from DC NOW of key moments from shows or events as a way to drive followers to @DC408DxNow. Of course, DC SocialPulse on here will continue to compile tweets from MTV shows and certain events into our running diaries that's been garnering plenty of traffic as of late.

In the last few years, Twitter has emerged as the platform to be for those who want to experience the biggest moments in entertainment, news and sports, and a place to interact with each other as well. Now, with this new way of me witnessing the events as they happen, moving my live tweeting to a new, dedicated Twitter account will be a change for the better in still being able to follow live events and programming as I see it, while also protecting my loyal audience.
   After all, the next best thing to being there witnessing the biggest moments in person is both watching it on TV and/or being on Twitter. And we anxiously look forward to having you join me as you and I experience the amazing moments that get the world talking...together. Welcome to DC NOW.

DC SocialPulse: Real World Ex-Plosion - "Betrayed and Beatdown"

*** Reader Advisory: DC SocialPulse Contains
Adult Language. Viewer Discretion is Advised. ***

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr

Welcome again to DC SocialPulse and our look at Episode 8 of Real World Ex-Plosion. Last week, Cory's ex Lauren left San Francisco after a positive pregnancy test, while Arielle & Ashley C. get into it and get real. We saw Doug make an appearance again, while a wild guys' night out led to Brian having more fun than he was supposed to.
   Episode 8, entitled "Betrayed and Beatdown", is probably in my opinion the best episode of this season to date, of course until next week. After Jenny finds out about Brian cheating, things will obviously get very tense when she seeks some revenge. Elsewhere, Jamie stirs up some drama with Jay and Jenna when she spills a secret on them, while Hailey looks for someone new.

Now before we get to this week's diary, with the success I've had on here blogging since I began this hobby nearly a year ago, what inspired these SocialPulse diaries that I do? Well, in addition to recognizing the fact that not all of the twitter world can experience the true communal social TV experience thanks to something called time zones, during Challenge season one of my fellow followers who is a Challenge fan and a blogger himself, David J. Bloom (@DavidBloom7), occasionally posts on his Culture Challenged blog (http://www.culturechallenged.com) a running diary of key Challenge episodes as they occurred on TV.
   Well, as a compromise that I made to myself to try to not tweet or RT as much as I've had in the past since I joined twitter last year and try to not lose followers, and inspired by those retro running diaries, I developed DC SocialPulse as a way to showcase the twitter dialogue of these episodes as the cast, fans and I saw it, while not sacrificing followers because of me flooding their timelines. And it's also a public service to all viewers including those on the west coast, so they don't get left behind on the twitter interaction. As I say, you don't have to scan through after you've seen the episodes, I will take care of the task so you don't have to.
   Yes, it is a large, gargantuan task of copying & pasting tweets onto my iPad notepad and then pasting them onto my blogger app afterwards with my original commentary before & after. Plus, there's me doing it two times a week with not just this Real World but also Are You The One?, and I'll be doing it again for the upcoming Challenge. But, as I wrote in the AYTO SocialPulse post last night, the work has been nothing but worthwhile in bringing a great deal of traffic these last few months.
   So David, thanks for giving me the inspiration for DC SocialPulse, and we can't wait to cover this season's Challenge. Get set, bud.

Moving on now, our usual reminder that there's adult language in some tweets below, but I am keeping it uncensored in order to retain the heat of the moment. So if you are mature enough, please read with discretion. :-)  And when you join us after the jump, not only did we include the Tuesday tweets from the cast, but also some from some of their fellow alumni, flying out to Los Angeles for After Shows for the upcoming Challenge, a preview of what's coming up as soon as this Real World wraps up.

DC SocialPulse: Are You The One? - "Its So Hard... To Say Goodbye"

*** Reader Advisory: DC SocialPulse Contains Adult Language and
spoilers for international readers. Viewer Discretion is Advised. ***

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr

Hi again everyone, welcome to another edition to DC SocialPulse and our twitter diary of episode 7 of Are You The One?. Last night saw the continuation of the events from Episode 6, where last week, the house began to search for the second perfect match after Coleysia & Dillan gave the group hope; Kayla gets called out for her Ryan/Wes threesome, and Simone makes a plan to break up Chris & Shanley. And after Chris and Paige were made a perfect match in the Truth Booth, the house went into chaos mode.
   And with the title of "It's So Hard... To Say Goodbye", that's where Episode 7 last night picks up with the continuation of Shanley and Simone's huge fight in the house as they are left reeling from the 2nd perfect match. Shanley becomes devastated by Chris leaving the house for the Honeymoon Suite, while Kayla becomes frustrated when Ryan comforts Jessica. And we see the emergence of potential love triangles that could again divide the house.
   And following twitter's view, I'll explain why this very blog has had plenty of international love in the past few weeks thanks to a show that has gripped not just those staying up after Teen Mom II, but also those living outside the United States. Two reminders before we start:
But I will be compiling all the cast tweets from when it airs here each week into weekly DCSP posts, so you won't miss a thing of how your favorite castmates reacted to this episode when they get to see them for the first time.
So with that, join us after the jump for the fireworks in Hawaii.

DC Fan's View: Real World Ex-Plosion After Show #3

* Views expressed in Fan's View are only those of the interviewees and do not necessarily reflect the viewpoints of DC Cueva or DCBLOG.

By DC Cueva, with Eric Ceballos
> @DC408dxtr, @EricC_Official

It's Real World Wednesday, and tonight is an all-new episode of Real World Ex-Plosion. And over the past week RW fans have been talking a bit about the events of last week's episode, seeing a roommate deal with a pregnancy & leaving San Francisco to fly back home. Plus, there was the infidelity that came along with a roommate's ex being brought along for a guys' night out, and the only roommate of LGBT origin dealing with her girlfriend and her friends coming out. And of course, we saw another appearance from that Doug guy once again.
   From the exes moving in to threesomes to real-life situations, we've seen so much happen throughout this season in San Francisco, it might be hard to keep up with all of it, but luckily enough it's safe to say this is the shot in the arm this reality TV pioneer exactly needed. And I've been enjoying it, with fans coming back to the show and others being introduced to it by way of the twist.
   And this week's episode promises to see even more drama take place with three of the love interests getting into some drama. And to set you up for what's happening tonight, time once again to hear you what you have on your mind with the 4th edition of Fan's View.

As we've been doing here throughout the season, we've been involving the fans more into the conversation than ever before on DCBLOG, from including their tweets in our SocialPulse diaries to expanding my fan chats from just the season-ending Reunion to also covering the After Shows during the season. The second set of After Shows were taped back on February 6th in Los Angeles (while I was getting into Olympic fever), and was the 2nd time the cast got together since filming ended. And the third instance will take place this week in New York as they will be doing the Reunion and some segments for the always-entertaining Clip Show as well. Even some of their fellow alumni are in Los Angeles right now for the After Show and promo stuff.
   Last week, we had the third installment of the RW Ex-Plosion After Show which delved into Brian getting into trouble, Lauren getting pregnant, Ari & Ash, and, yes, Doug appearing again. And just as I did for the first set of After Shows earlier this season and our two previous Reunion Revealed posts, I have scoured the social-sphere to find fans from the SoCal area to talk about what they saw, what we saw and what we didn't see, and get their thoughts on the big storylines too.
   And after some searching, this is who I found: Eric Ceballos. He was in the audience for last week's After Show (and a second one which you'll see sometime in the next few episodes), and he is also an actor and activist (more on that at the end of this post). Here is his view on last week's talk around the sofa with Nessy and the storylines from last week's big episode.

DC's View: Mardi Gras Madness

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr

With cold weather making its way across much of the U.S. over the course of the first few days of March, those who are anxious to excape the cold are ready to let loose in some of the biggest party destinations in the U.S., just as college students will start to think about spring break on the horizon. And the month of partying kicked off this weekend with the excitement and never-ending madness of Mardi Gras, and of course, New Orleans will be at the heart of it all as it's celebrates undoubtedly its biggest holiday, which reaches its peak today.
The Mardi Gras activities refer to the events surround the Carnival season, starting on or after the Epiphany or Kings Day, and climaxing on the day before Ash Wednesday, which is this week. The term Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, referring to the ritual of the last night of eating richer foods prior to the fasting of the season of Lent, which begins on that Wednesday. Sometimes the party Tuesday is referred to as Shrove Tuesday, deriving from the word "shrive," which is an adjective for "confess."
   For a holiday as full of traditions as any other during the year, popular traditions including wearing masks & costumes, overturning traditional social conventions, dancing, parades and the like. In many places, Mardi Gras also refers to the whole period of activity related to the celebration in the days leading up to the big day on Tuesday. This festival season can vary depending upon which place you go to: some have it from Epiphany to Ash Wednesday, while others celebrate it just in the three days leading up to it. An example of this is in Mobile, AL, where Mardi Gras-related social events begin in November while most of us are in the lead up to the holiday season.
Mardi Gras might not be observed on a national basis here in the U.S., but that doesn't stop people in a number of cities and regions and those with French, Spanish and other related history from marking the Carnival holiday. The earliest Carnival celebrations in North America took place in March 1699 about 60 miles down the Mississippi River from New Orleans, while other earlier celebrations took place in Mobile, Biloxi and in Pensacola, FL. Thanks to having seen those decorations at the local Dollar Tree the other day, folks outside the South can also observe their own Mardi Gras celebrations.
   Mobile is home to the oldest organized Mardi Gras celebrations, which took place in 1703, followed in 1830 by the first formally organized Mardi Gras parade. Their celebrations center around private social organizations called "mystic societies" that represent a fundamental part of the city's social and business life, and those societies organize the same type of events as their NOLA cousins, but whose parades go through downtown Mobile.
    In Pensacola, they have much the same Mardi Gras celebrations as their fellow cities in the South, though it is more light-hearted and family-oriented. Biloxi, MS also hosts Mardi Gras events, and with their position along the Gulf Coast the city has looked to their celebrations as a way of rebuilding in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Outside the South, other key Carnival celebrations take place in St. Louis, Portland, OR, Galveston, TX, and San Francisco in May.

And then, of course, there's the epicenter of America's Mardi Gras celebrations: New Orleans. NOLA's Carnival season begins after Twelth Night on Epiphany on January 6th, and it's a season of parades, balls (some of them masquerade), and king cake parties. But most of the celebratory activity is concentrated in the two week period before and through Fat Tuesday, falling before Ash Wednesday. The schedule typically calls for one major parade each day, weather permitting, with some of those days having several large parades. The largest and most elaborate parades take place in the last five days of the season, beginning on Friday. And during that last week of Carnival, many events, both big and not-so-big, take place throughout New Orleans, surrounding communities and into neighboring communities in the Deep South.
   The parades in the Big Easy are organized by Carnival krewes, which are organizations that put on a parade or a ball during Carnival. Krewe float riders toss into the crowd those famous colorful plastic beads, dollar-sized coins called doubloons, decorated plastic cups and small toys. It's tradition for major krewes to follow the same parade schedule and route each year. But since the early '70s due to their narrow roads and obstructions from overhead, none of the major Carnival parades have entered the heart of the city's Carnival celebration and where many of the tourists spend their time in: Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. To remedy the situation, major parades start in the Uptown and Mid-City districts and follow a route along St. Charles Avenue and Canal Street near the French Quarter. And the parade routes along Uptown and in the Mid-City are family-friendly events for people of all ages to enjoy the parades.
   Of course, those family gatherings pale in comparison to the craziness of the adult-only aspects of partying in exposing body parts, aka "flashing", as a way to buy those beads, which is frowned upon by the New Orleans police and can result in a ticket or arrest. And while it's become a growing trend for uninhibited young ladies to show those boobs even though it's been documented since 1889 - thanks mostly in part of those infamous commercial voyeur videos, it still only happens in Bourbon Street and the French Quarter.
The history of Mardi Gras in New Orleans is as old as Mardi Gras celebrations in the U.S., with its aforementioned origins taking place not far from the city. And while there were unofficial celebrations taking place annually starting in the 1700's, in 1856 a group of Creole businessmen gathered in the French Quarter to organize the city's first Krewe, The Mystic Krewe of Comus, and help observe Mardi Gras with a formal parade. Nearly 20 years later, Louisiana made Mardi Gras a legal state holiday, but two times has the city's Mardi Gras been affected by events larger than the celebration. in 1979 the New Orleans Police Department went on strike and a number of parades were either canceled or moved elsewhere in the area and significantly fewer visitors came to the city.
   And of course, there was the 2006 celebrations six months after Katrina, when the devastation caused concern about what would happen to the celebrations. The essentially bankrupt city government pushed for a scaled back celebration to limit strains on services, but after hearing from krewes about them wanting to have their usual celebration, a compromise between Krewe leaders and city officials was reached to allow for a slightly scaled back celebration. That year, while major parades continued down their normal routes, some other parades were rerouted to avoid areas that had significant flood damage. Plus, as was the case in 1979, National Guard troops were deployed to help with crowd control, while the city placed time restrictions on parades. But even with most locals being affected by the events of those six months prior to Mardi Gras 2006, it became a sign of hope and a cause for celebration & rebirth for the people, one that still lingers today.
In the contemporary form, the New Orleans Carnival season starts up on January 6th when the Twelth Night Revelers, the city's 2nd-oldest Krewes, host a masked ball to kick off the season. But the action picks up the weekend before Mardi Gras when NOLA's population more than doubles with visitors from all over flying in for the extended weekend. Thursday night sees an all-female parade featuring the Krewe of Muses, where it is notable for throws featuring decorated shoes, and themes making a mockery of politicians and celebrties. Friday night is highlighted by three parades: the Krewe of Hermes, Krewe D'Etat (a satirical one) and Krewe of Morpheus, plus smaller neighborhood strolls to kick off the weekend. The weekend sees several daytime parades in Saturday and Sunday hosted by the Krewe of Tucks, Krewe of Isis, Okeanos Krewe of Mid-City and Thoth), followed by nighttime parades by the super krewes, Endymion on Satuday and Bacchus on Sunday - featuring celebrities.
   Yesterday as we post this on Tuesday, March 4rd, it's Lundi Gras, or "Fat Monday." And on this Mardi Gras Eve, monarchs of the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club and Krewe of Rex arrived earlier today by boat on the Mississippi River at the foot of Canal Street for an all-day party. Uptown parades included one put on the 2nd-oldest & active Krewe and one of New Orleans' most prestigious organizations, the Krewe of Proteus; and the music-themed Krewe of Orpheus.
   Then today, the Mardi Gras celebrations began early, starting uptown with the Zulu and Rex parades, followed by truck floats put on by smaller parade organizations, either in Uptown or on the outskirts of the city before entering the French Quarter. These include the Jefferson City Buzzards, Lyons Club, Irish Channel Corner Club, Pete Fountain's Half Fast Walking Club and the KOE, with a jazz band also included in the parades. Elsewhere, the Society of Saint Anne, Pair-O-Dice Tumblers and Mardi Gras Indians also parade into the area.
And what's the story behind the traditions Mardi Gras in New Orleans? The three traditional colors of purple, gold and green come to represent, in order: justice, power and faith, and were used by the Catholic Church throughout its history and have continued to be used as the tri-colors of the celebrations, which was catholic in its origin. For those famous costumes, they are rarely worn by those that aren't members of a Krewe in the lead up to Fat Tuesdays outside of parties, but of course are worn on the big day. Laws prohibiting the concealing of people's identities are suspended for the day, while banks are closed. And some businesses, convenience stores and other places that might be concerned about security post courtesy signs outside asking those who enter to remove their masks.
   New Orleans' Social clubs represent a fundamental part of the Mardi Gras experience as the hosts of the parades, with the two main Krewes, Zulu and Rex, being social club parades and those clubs being, respectively, African-American and Caucasian. They also host Mardi Gras balls that start in late January, and see the crowning of a queen (usually a young 18-21 YO woman, not married and in HS/college) and king (older member of the club), the election of their court of maids of young ladies aged 16-18 and different divisions of kids with roles in the ball and parade. And like the preparation for a prom, a sweet 16 party or wedding, those who are members of a court have plenty of time to prepare, such as having their dresses being fitted out; along with deciding who to invite (as they are by invitation only) and where to stage the ball, typically at a large venue like the Superdome or at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center for the respective Endymion and Bacchus "Super Krewes."
And there's those throws. Those famous beads, inexpensive and readily available nowadays, first appeared in the late 19th century, and made overseas in the multi-colored strings of glass beads. Since the 1960's, more durable plastic beads made in Asia became the standard as the low-cost nature of those toys have allowed riders to purchase greater amounts of them and throws are more frequent. By the '90s, they were joined by bigger, more elaborate metallic beads and strands, including figures of people, animals and other objects, which are now the most-sought after trinkets. And these days, they have some company in the form of more limited edition beads and plush toys provided by the numerous Krewes. And the most-sought-after items now are fiber optic beads and LED-powered prizes, as well as glass-beads made in India, inspired by the retro movement.
   Plus, there's those doubloons, which are large coins, ether metal or wood, made in purple, gold or green colors. They have been around as long as the plastic beads - being conceived in 1959. Artist H. Alvin Sharpe is the founding father of the doubloons, having introduced the idea of aluminum coins to a krewe that year. The usual krewe doubloons have their organization's logo, name, founding date, theme and year of parade displayed on both sides, and are usually given away at both the parades and at the balls. There's also the Zulu Coconut, which is a heavily sought-after throw; a flambeau (a flame-torch) which is a beacon for the nighttime parades; and a Rex, voted upon by the krewes to serve as king of the carnival.

Having just watched the Olympics Closing Ceremony just over a week ago, the ending of Mardi Gras in New Orleans has a touch of fun, tradition and sadness. The formal end to the activities sees "the Meeting of the Courts" when Rex and His Royal Consort, the King and Queen of the Carnival, meet up with Comus and his Queen at the ball of the Mistick Krewe of Comus, which is the city's oldest Carnival organization still active. That Meeting of the Court ceremony will occur at the end of the two groups' masked balls, which take place in downtown New Orleans later tonight. At the same time, at the stroke of midnight at the end of Fat Tuesday in the French Quarter, a mounted squad of New Orleans Police officers will make a show of clearing the upper part of Bourbon Street to signal the end of Carnival and the beginning of Lent and the early hours of Ash Wednesday. Tomorrow is sometimes referred to in the city as "Trash Wednesday" due to the amount of refuse left behind in the streets, and the tons of garbage picked up is a local news item, reflecting the strong tourism impact Mardi Gras has on New Orleans.
   For me as a longtime loyal fan of MTV's The Real World, the show has traveled two times to New Orleans for a season, and both times have seen their casts celebrate Mardi Gras. The first was in 2000 when Danny got himself in hot water for cheating on his boyfriend by having sex with a local guy in the confessional. The second was ten years later when the celebrations began a few days early after the Saints' Super Bowl win and saw McKenzie's drunk alter ego make an appearance, along with now-radio host Ashlee got her feet wet of losing a voice recorder in the madness. In both instances, the roommates got to ride a float and even flashed as well.

I might not travel as much as I want to because of the schedules of both me and various members of my family. But from having watched NOLA's Mardi Gras celebrations over the years on television, it would sure look very cool to have this on my bucket list and experience this craziness and tradition for myself one day.

Why Are You The One? Can Thank Some Moms for Their Success

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr

A little spur of the moment post on here. And with me being busy with following Real World Ex-Plosion and Are You The One?, I wanted to share a random thought on here, and why some of my very good friends can thank a few other members of Team MTV for their success.

If you probably don't know by now, I am a huge Real World/Challenge fanatic, but I am also an overall MTV fan as well. I am open to watching any show the channel airs, thanks mainly in part to my great passion for storytelling, being used to the laid-back nature of The Real World's way of telling stories of young people, and now with its personalities being very fan friendly. I might not be into the scripted fare much, but I could never say no to watching those shows either. I bought season 1 of Teen Wolf that I've watched only snippets of it, but it's there.

Something that sort of spurred this little random thought on here is a show that, aside from Catfish and a few other things, is probably MTV's most popular show that's on right now (not counting Jersey Shore which ended over a year ago) and yet it gets a good deal of haterade from the social world. And of course, I am talking about the Teen Mom franchise. When I was at the store earlier this evening, I spotted an US Weekly with one of the ladies from the show, Kailyn, on the cover. And it's been the case the last few years of the show's three casts gracing the tabloid covers at the checkout counter.

I know of a few of my followers, who are fellow RW/Challenge fans too and for whom I'm not going to call out on here so I don't myself get in hot water, might question why the show is still on the air.
And thanks to me being busy, I still haven't yet watched those DVD's I found at the thrift shop of the first seasons of 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom, but they're there ready for me to watch. And of course, Farrah Abraham gave me a follow a little while back, thanks to having met Jay from Real World Ex-Plosion. Now, I might not watch the show right now, but I could never say no to watching it, just as long as it is a show that I can be comfortable watching it whether I like it or not in the end. And I also don't like to start drama in voicing a negative opinion publicly so I don't get in trouble.

But, for the cast of the show airs right afterwards in that money timeslot of Tuesday at 11pm, they sure have loved having that lead-in since they premiered. Last week with the fight we saw with Simone and Shanley (and for which it will continue into this week's episode), Are You The One? had its best viewership figures yet, and it looks from here that it will only grow from there with the drama that's yet to go down from Hawaii. It premiered with the best ratings of an MTV series premiere since Buckwild last year, and viewership & buzz has been growing, especially overseas with it airing hot off the presses on all international MTV channels as soon as a few days after it airs here in the U.S.  And every week, the show has also regularly trended on twitter, including last week's episode where Shanley and Chris & Paige were trending topics besides the show itself.
   And its success have also cast a halo effect on two social media pen pals too. Last Friday, my good buddy Andrew Kirk, who also happened to discover this show too, had his most-viewed web chat ever when he landed the first SpreeCast interview with Shanley, and more than 5,000 views of that interview were recorded, blowing away the number for his most-viewed interview on either his SpreeCasts or Blog Talk Radio podcasts which normally feature those from The Real World or Challenges. And for me, articles relating to Are You The One?, including our SocialPulse diaries of the episodes as the cast saw it when the show airs, have made up a good chunk of my DCBLOG traffic in recent weeks as well with fans wanting to catch up on the show's twitter conversation. I've had hundreds of hits on my blog in the past few weeks, including from those in Brazil, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Belgium, Spain and as far as China, wanting to see what it's like watching and tweeting along with this show. Yes, I do gather all of their tweets, even while they air three hours before me, so everyone can catch up. It's a long process but worth it.

This is not the first time that one MTV show has seen great interest thanks to airing right after another popular MTV show. Catfish: The TV Show garnered tremendous interest in the world of online dating and got tremendous viewership following Teen Wolf in its first year (Mondays at 11pm) that, for its second season it moved an hour early and to Tuesday last summer. Back in the days when it was just a half-hour show, The Real World helped launch two shows to success: The Osbournes (which aired after RW Chicago, Vegas, Paris and SD1) and the first season of Laguna Beach (which aired after RW Philly and moved to Mondays a year later).
    So before you can go off even further on the Teen Mom girls, their significant others, their families and their babies, please be aware that this group has become the group that not only many young women can thank for helping fuel the discussion over teen pregnancy, but also formwhich twenty of your favorite singles can thank for giving them the lead in to what is my guilty pleasure and joining Real World Ex-Plosion as the favorite show of the moment for me.

DCBLOG and @DC408dxtr on Twitter is where my coverage of Real World Ex-Plosion and Are You The One? lives, with twitter alerts to interviews, articles and conversations with the cast, live tweeting of episodes, our SocialPulse diaries and more here on the Blog from my point of view. And I'll be live tweeting the episodes of both shows this week, and post a twitter diary of them the next day. Plus, keep an eye out later tonight or tomorrow for a post covering Mardi Gras, and prior to Wednesday's RW episode, we will have the latest edition of Fan's View with how one fan saw last week's RW Ex-Plosion After Show. For now, thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed both this post and Are You The One? so far. And until we blog again later, have fun and enjoy Tuesday's episode.

DC SocialPulse: Real World Ex-Plosion: "The Test"

*** Reader Advisory: DC SocialPulse Contains
Adult Language. Viewer Discretion is Advised. ***

By DC Cueva
@DC408dxtr

Welcome back everyone to DC SocialPulse and our continuing coverage of Real World Ex-Plosion. And after being very busy with the Sochi Olympics, it's good to be back to devoting most of my energies on here to the MTV world. Last week in San Francisco, we saw Tom catch himself in the middle of a love triangle between him, Jamie and Haliey, while Brian became disturbed by the wild behavior of his ex Jenny. And there was another life changer in store in the house when Cory's ex Lauren found out that she is pregnant.
   And with the fitting title of "The Test," that's where Episode 7 picks up from right there this week with Cory getting the news from Lo as she contemplates whether or not to leave the city. We will also get to know more about Arielle and Ashley C., including a secret Ari has been hiding from her, as well as meeting her friends. And after making brownies with Jenny, as well as yet another sighting of rebound guy Doug, a wild guys' night out leads Brian to perhaps get in trouble. Plus, we had the latest installment of the After Show, where we also saw that Doug guy again (more on that coming next week).
   And following twitter's view, we'll put this episode in historical context with how Lauren being pregnant bringing back what happened previously, and the proud history of the LGBT community being represented on The Real World.
   As we begin, our usual reminder that there's adult language in some tweets below, but I am keeping it uncensored in order to retain the heat of the moment. So if you are mature enough, please read with discretion. :-)  So with that, as we begin, we've included a day-before dialogue between one of the castmates from this season and an alum who today works in local radio in Cleveland, but is remembered nationally as the one who left the DC house early four years ago.
