Hi, hello, what's up and welcome one & all to DC SocialPulse and our continuing coverage of the MTV Trifecta; and welcome to the first 'Pulse diary for Season 27 of The Challenge. After taking the holiday week off following a most-eventful season 3 of Are You The One?, we transitioned right into the fifth major pro sport. This time, it is a totally different game: Battle of the Bloodlines.
For the second straight season, and as many as 13 castmates have announced their parenthood this year alone, The Challenge is expanding its talent pool to include those outside the Real World & Challenge Eco-system. And this time, it's the siblings and cousins of the competitors as a popular Survivor concept in Blood vs. Water makes its way across former Viacom corporate lines to the MTV world. More than anyone, the competitors' Bloodlines know exactly what their strengths, weaknesses and fears are and this season should be something else.
This week as they arrive in Bodrum, Turkey - site of BOTS 2 where I got my start following this Challenge world regularly, we begin with all the usual pomp and circumstance that comes with the cast arriving, but also learning that they'll be competing alongside family members. The first night leads to a scandalous hookup that may have enormous repercussions back home, while a physical clash between brothers could send them packing before the opening horn. And we have our first action on the competition field as well, as well as plenty of other hookups as well.
We'll have all the interaction from the first Challenge Wednesday, the premiere episode itself and the aftermath covered here in the first of our posts covering this wild opening act that will, just as it was with show 1 of the Trifecta cycle, need two blog posts each week to cover it. Plus after all that on DC ExtraTime, one of the key figures from AYTO 3 opens up on the late night drunken fight that led to a first for the show. That's all ahead as we kick off our in-season coverage right here.
As we lead off our ninth Trifecta season we've covered here at the 'Blog, in case you're joining us for the first time, as always a warm welcome, it's great you've came and get comfortable. So as ever, we had quite the premiere to a Challenge, and fittingly enough it was called "There Will Be Blood." We saw several hook-ups among the competitors and other Bloodlines, but the biggest one was the one between Tony & Christina that ultimately led to his breakup with his RW Skeletons girl Madison. Tony also found himself in words with Nany & Nicole, and got into fisticuffs with brother Shane, which almost led to their premature exit and marked Nic's fiery debut. We had a hot & wet first mission that saw Cohutta & Jill take the win with help, and the girl who felt the brunt of last season's finals meltdown receive the season's first TJ Mark of Approval in Jenna beating Christina in the Pit. All in all, a good start to this Bloodlines season in Turkey.
Now in past seasons after my DCNOW tweets, this would be the part in the 'Pulse for our episode recap, what we saw and our takeaways. But to make things a bit more easier for those who want just a simple recap if you don't have all the time to browse this entire diary, or if you access DCBLOG on your phone on the go, as we did during AYTO3 the original write-up portion of our weekly episode coverage now calls home at its dedicated post, DC WRAP. AYTO AFTERMATCH: AMANDA RESPONDS

After some alone time for some soul searching knowing how big this scenario would play out once we at home got to see it, Amanda returned from a brief social media hiatus last week, and for the first time since the events of the finale, she offered her thoughts on that fateful night. From an Instagram post which has since been deleted - likely due to her being given tons of social media hate since the finale and then on that post, here's her response...
"I would like everyone to finally hear my voice on the situation with Mike on MTVs Are You The One Season 3. After watching the finale, I feel extremely embarrassed and remorseful for my behavior. It was completely disgusting and out of control. I would give anything to take back what happened. I provoked Mike and the situation was blown way out of proportion on television. I want everyone to know I fought for Mike to stay. I told production the following day it wasn't a big deal and that we equally had a part in what happened. With alcohol and high emotions we both made mistakes that night. I take more blame than Mike because I know it wouldn't have happened if I didn't continuously push him to his breaking point. I'm working on being a better person and that's really all I can say. I can't erase or take it back, I can only learn and progress forward into becoming the best woman I can be. I'm sorry to all the fans of AYTO and more importantly I'm sorry to @mikecrescenzo. ❤️ I'm happy and thankful we can be friends and stick together through this crazy journey!!!!!" --- @mtv_amanda on Instagram
It was obviously unfortunate that she would receive lots of hate from the folks in the social media world for behavior that would easily be regrettable. Just as it was for Zach during Exes 2, Amanda didn't spend time in the social world from just before the finale until a week after knowing how severe the people who would be in being critical on her. Unfortunately, it obviously going to be the same with Tony and with Christina in the aftermath of the hook-up that would ultimately see the end of his Real World romance with Madison. But I do applaud Amanda for coming clean and telling her side of the story, after Mike himself told his side during the finale itself. It's better than not responding at all, particularly when there wasn't a reunion this season.
While Diki's relationship was the key talking point this year among the relationships that emerged, the Amanda-Mike relationship brought it to a level we've not had here in that something violent led to Mike being the first AYTO castmate to leave the house before the season had ended. He too also fessed up to his mistakes and acknowledging that men like him should never touch a girl in the manner that which he did. Obviously, that fight will be the memory fans will have of them when we look back on this season, but again much respect to Amanda & Mike for responding to it.
Along with it being the name of DCNOW's after-dark tweet sessions after every episode, DC ExtraTime will once again be part of my Challenge coverage this season, taking you beyond the TV for a unique look at the stories of the hundreds-strong dysfunctional & tight-knit MTV Trifecta family. Proof comes in the great post I did on TJ Lavin that the host re-tweeted my link many times and has done his part to help boost readership here on the site, which is always appreciated.
Coming in the Premiere edition of DC WRAP later on here, if the events of what happened to Christina fueled many of you to go off on her, then you may want to think twice...we'll explain that. Plus in coming weeks, among others, we'll spotlight a Challenger auditioning for a new career after she steps away from these shows; a night at the Improv with a man at the heart of another vet/rookie hook-up; and reflection on who is now The Challenge's lone present-day old-school representative.
Before we wrap things up today as this is being posted on Saturday, December 5th, we at DCBLOG want to send best wishes to Challenge vet & Exes 2 runner-up Theresa Gonzalez and her fiance, Detroit Lions WR TJ Jones, on the pending arrival of their new baby as she is now going into labor. Their new bundle of joy will come one week later than expected (it was projected for a Thanksgiving Day arrival), but will come at a more opportune time: Jones' Lions lost a gut-wrenching Thursday Night Football thriller to her native state Packers by way of Aaron Rodgers' miracle Hail Mary pass to Richard Rodgers. So this defining moment of their lives will more than make up for that loss but now the next chapter begins for them. Congrats to them once again, and we'll have more on that baby on our WRAP post later this weekend.
