DC WRAP: Real World Seattle: Bad Blood - The Premiere

BY DC CUEVA
@DC408Dxtr / @DC408DxNow

As we prepare for tonight's big twist and yours truly is in the countdown to being in Sin City in around 70 hours from now, welcome on back to DCBLOG as wrap up the first act of Real World Seattle: Bad Blood. Last week saw Season 32 of this reality TV pioneer begin its season with more than the usual pleasantries of the cast moving into their new house and getting to know each other in their new city.
The two-hour "Double Shot" premiere saw the drama take over the house as Robbie and Mike engage in the season's first fight, and Magic Mike also get close to Jordan just as he did with Amanda in the AYTO house last year. Plus, Tyara made quite an impression as the difficulty of living with six complete strangers saw her isolate herself from the rest of the house, with the sole exception of Theo, which she became attracted to and eventually hooked up. And, there was a harbinger of what's ahead as the roommates opened up about their past and eventually it will come up here in Seattle.
Ahead, we'll have our Things to Know recap of the premiere, plus the results of our DC FORUM Polls conducted on my twitter handle, @DC408Dxtr, on premiere night. Afterwards on ExtraTime, we'll join the Are You The One? Season 4 cast as they take over one of the year's biggest events in pop culture: New York Fashion Week. That's all ahead next.

 THINGS TO KNOW

● FIRST IMPRESSIONS: We begin our premiere Wrap with, of course, the beginning. The cast meets in places around Seattle as we are introduced to Jordan, Mike and Anika at the park; Robbie and Katrina on a boat; and Theo and Tyara on a hill overlooking the city. For Jordan, she always dresses up while for Anika, she's dynamic and for Mike...well, we've seen him before. Mama's boy Robbie has his sights on having the time of his life, while Katrina is experiencing life outside of her Florida roots for the first time. Theo is the one where everyone knows his name back home in Kankakee, IL (if having a stuffed bunny makes him that much more likable), while Tyara has affection for older guys.
● FIRST ATTRACTIONS: When the group meets up at the house in the Capitol Hill district, it doesn't take long for the group to mingle. Besides a couple we'll explain here shortly, just as he did with Amanda upon moving into the AYTO house last year, Mike finds himself getting attracted to Jordan at the bar, despite her saying that he's not her type despite their flirting. When they go into the confessional, she goes in with just her underwear on and Mike tries to get on Jordan but she rebuffs him all as Katrina & Anika are taking selfies outside the room. Later, Jordan tells Robbie of how Mike made a play for her, and as you saw at the end of our premiere 'Pulse post, this did have ramifications for the relationship formed this summer between Mike and AYTO 4 alum Tori, and they announced their breakup on Friday after the episode.
● TYARA ON THE OUTSIDE: At first after everyone arrives and checks out the confessional, the guys and the girls get to know each other separately. Tyara gets upset because she feels that Anika, Jordan and Katrina are clicking up and she's been excluded from them when they hang out & get cupcakes, and also admits to being shy. When the house goes out for their first dinner and then watch fireworks later on, the concern that she could meet any friends in the house and in Seattle becomes prevalent, as she becomes a bit of an outsider and still doesn't make progress in trying to communicate, which of course is vital in being in this atmosphere.
● FAMILY NIGHT GOES BAD: With bonds being made with the guys and girls, Jordan decides to let the house stay in to make an effort to get everyone together... with a good old family game night, of all things. And the game they play is, of course, Truth or Dare. The further isolation Tyara has here stays true as she decides to eventually leave the living room knowing how uncomfortable she is to discuss intimate topics, but everyone else makes the most of this much needed bonding time as Anika becomes the first this season to strip off all clothing and give the blurring machine a workout. The most odd thing to occur here is when the wolf pack comes to town: Robbie is dared to bite Theo's lip...
After the bite, Robbie begins to get upset about having done that dare for a brief time, and Mike - who in his intro admits to being an instigator and manipulator - begins to provoke him to the point where he sheds tears. Robbie begins to go off and says he wants to go home, while Theo & Jordan head for the confessional to talk about Tyara - who's also napping on the floor inside and eavesdrops on their talk. Shortly thereafter, the house becomes abuzz about this night: Tyara yells as the group for their game behavior, and Robbie goes off on Mike for the Theo bite.
Then, Robbie mocks Jordan's rejection of Mike, and both guys get into words and security has to come in to not get this out of hand. Crying (which if there's a fantasy league, he's score big points), Robbie then calls dad back home as papa tries to calm him down after that fight. Just as we've seen in the past, after he tells dad that he misses home and family, production sends Robbie to a hotel for the night to rest up after all that. And when he returns the following day, he brings them together to apologize to the house and Mike does so also. They try to sort things out, but it's somewhat awkward.
● TYA & THEO: As much as she was isolating herself and being sheltered a bit from making friends, as the first person she met Tyara instantly clicks with Theo. As they find themselves being stuck in the last room in being the last two to arrive, it doesn't take long for the two to begin to flirt and to grind away on one another at the club. After pleading for her to feel better, they head on a night out and she spots Theo dancing with a girl, to which where Tya gets jealous, upset and leaves. She admits to getting close to Theo too quickly when they're at the house as they avoid each other, but then at a bar with indoor lawn bowling, finally they get some face time. There, Tya says sorry for shutting down, but opens up about having had many traumatic experiences including being bullied both in person and in cyberspace while in high school. Having finally aired it out and her being happy, the two admit to being each other, and after more club dancing they finally seal the deal.
BAD BLOOD: During the premiere's two hours, there's moments throughout of the roomies talking about what's happened to them in the past that will ultimately bite them in the tush very shortly. For the very first time, the cast have been given smartphones to use during their stay, and it's here where after she slaps guys' butts Katrina gets into words via text with her sister Anna back in Florida. Being in a broken family, the two have had issues for some time which brings Katrina to tears, and the main beef is of Anna getting raped by a guy and Katrina kissing him with no knowledge of that unfortunate night. From cheating and personal issues to drugs and all else that relates to this original group, the issues of these seven strangers will be put under further scrutiny when the bad blood moves in tonight.

 DC FORUM POLLS
If you were with us towards the end of the last cycle over the summer, I introduced Twitter polls on my handle at @DC408Dxtr asking you for thoughts on certain questions pertaining to the episodes of the Trifecta, which became more effective for me to reach fans than was the case before.
To be honest with you, all but two of the polls here for this first installment were lifted from when MTV.com polled fans out east for a certain period of time and didn't poll fans out west - thus, I re-did those polls for viewers out west and those who might've watched later on catch-up. Here's the results.
"Do you feel Jordan, Anika & Katrina are intentionally excluding Tyara from their #RWBadBlood girls clique?"
● YES: 10%  MTV: 30%
 NO: 90%   MTV: 70%
  - Out of 10 Total Votes on @DC408Dxtr, 242 on @MTV
"After what we saw from him on #AYTO, is Mike falling too fast for Jordan just a few days into #RWBadBlood?"
YES, for sure: 85%   MTV: 87%
● NO, not quite: 15%  MTV: 13%
  - Out of 42 Total Votes on @DC408Dxtr, 305 on MTV
"In your opinion, were Robbie's actions at the end of Hour 1 of the #RWBadBlood premiere a big deal?"
● YES, Peer Pressure: 33%   MTV: 38%
NO, Just Dramatics: 67%   MTV: 62%
  - Out of 13 Total Votes on @DC408Dxtr, 202 on @MTV
"And do you think Robbie overreacted  in going after her & getting sent away for the night?"
YES, he is:    76%    MTV: 55%
● NO, he isn't: 24%    MTV: 45%
  - Out of 12 Total Votes on @DC408Dxtr, 247 on @MTV
Now, the two original questions...
"After tonight's #rwbadblood premiere, which girl made the strongest first impression?"
● ANIKA: 17%         ● KATRINA: 3%
● JORDAN: 30%       TYARA: 50%
  - Out of 30 Total Votes on @DC408Dxtr
"And which #rwbadblood guy made the biggest first impression after these first two episodes?"
● MIKE: 12%         ● ROBBIE: 15%      THEO: 73%
  - Out of 26 Total Votes on @DC408Dxtr

The takeaway from my two original questions was that the two who got close this week, Tyara and Theo, really made strong first impressions -- her with being late to the party in opening up to the rest of the house and him being drama free and upbeat compared to what happened to Mike and Robbie. It wasn't surprising that they've become the season's first house couple and should be something to keep an eye on as we go along. On the topic of the former, both my & MTV's question of if the girls were excluding Tya from their clique were just the matter of her difficulty opening up to people she didn't know and not of Anika, Jordan and Katrina excluding her intentionally.
For the Chicago girl who's also been featured in in-store ads for Sears, her being played by Mike felt to most of you that he's falling too fast for her early on, just as he did for Amanda. For what happened to Robbie at the midway point of this premiere, it was his dramatics and not peer pressure, that influenced that late night fight with Mike, and that he also overreacted as well. In my opinion, Maserobbiee did change many's impressions late when we saw him in his own element on the 1's and 2's, and should have a fun time ahead for him doing DJ'ing (my bro in law has someone in common here). But this is just the start: the fun stuff arrives tonight when the bad blood fly into the PNW.

BEAM TEAM TAKES OVER FASHION WEEK

Last month, one of the two signs (along with U.S. Open tennis) that fall is in the air in the Big Apple took place when the world's top designers, models and fans descended upon New York City for the fall edition of New York Fashion Week. Twice each year - the other taking place in February, thousands head to the world's greatest city for a week-long festival of fashion when international collections premiere to buyers, media and to the general public. NY Fashion Week is the only major event in this world of high-end clothing to take place outside of Europe (Paris, London & Milan host the others), and has been a NYC tradition since 1943 when it became the world's first organized fashion week. Today, the economic impact NYFW has on the Tri-State Area numbers at nearly $900 million, not surprising for an event that calls the vibrancy of America's largest city its home.
Just as their Season 3 predecessors descended upon NYC, Canada and Mexico for their postseason celebrations (as we told you about earlier this year), in the wake of what happened to them back in August what could some of the Season 4 cast of Are You The One do to mark their win? Take over this grand New York event, of course. Not surprising given much of this year's singles to this group affectionately called "Beam Team" have ties to the Big Apple as natives of the Tri-State area.
The girl who's had the pleasure of being Mike's girlfriend much of this summer until late last week, Tori, joined with the man she put to sleep in that now famous "third eye" rap battle Giovanni, and musical collaborator Prosper "P.MUNA." Also joining them were her perfect match Morgan and the always interesting Asaf as they all walked the red carpet and strutted down the runway at the Style Fashion Show at the famed Hammerstein Ballroom and other events in the city. They weren't the only "ones" in town to witness the festivities, as one of the couples featured in the "Since You've Been Gone" catch-up on our RW preview, Stephen & Julia, flew east for Fashion Week.
Those five New Yorkers (four really - Gio is a Connecticut guy) all got to walk down the runway that night, which saw P.Muna show off his abs, Morgan don a bow tie, Tori and Gio cross one another and Asaf do dance moves. This wasn't the only fashion show the So You Think You Can Dance alum got to strut his stuff at: at another one in the city, he even got to channel his own dance moves and do a couple backflips. You can check out in the Instagram video embedded at the bottom of this feature.

Not surprisingly in an gathering where lots of celebrities have a front row seat to all the action on the runway, the cast all got the chance to meet some famous royalty. Gio and Asaf - or "Sweet N Sour" if you like to call them - got to mingle with the girl who was part of the romance in the Seaside Heights Jersey Shore house: Sammi Sweetheart knows a thing about being in an MTV romance for some time with Ronnie during the entire run of Jersey Shore and have been on-again, off-again both on the show and off-camera. Gio also got to sit next to Brittany Fogarty of VH1's Mob Wives, adding to becoming BFF's during VMA week with Farrah Abraham and Javi Marroquin of Teen Mom and Real World'er Jay (more on what he has ahead of him coming up later in our coverage), as well as just meeting up with another original - more on that also later on.
Prosper also got to meet Olympic gold medalist Natasha Hastings, model Larsen Thompson and just this past week crossed paths with Wyclef Jean. And for Julia, she got to meet an artist who are first got to meet when she and all of us where at least a decade & a half younger. It feels like forever since we first got to meet Mario back in 2002 when he was just 16 years old when his cover of Biz Markie's "Just A Friend" garnered him a top-5 on the Billboard Hot 100, then "Let Me Love You" topped the singles charts two years later. After dropping off the mainstream radar after reaching the top in '04 as well as doing some acting work, Mario has a new album dropping this fall.
As I wrote in my summer Wrap, the AYTO 4 cast won their $750,000 by going on that late run in the Truth Booth where they had the most success in, which was the difference in winning the cash. As you see in P.Muna and Gio's Instagrams and them being well fitted in their nice suits, next on their docket is music (I'm really digging Prosper's latest track "No Worries" and putting a book together called "The Game" where they plan to give advice on -- what else? -- advice on getting girls. Not a bad week in the Big Apple.

And on that note of going head over heels, that will bring to a close our posts for the premiere of Real World Bad Blood. We'll be returning on Friday with the the 'Pulse of tonight's episode 3, and note for our EP 3 posts, we'll have just one post there - the 'Pulse diary - for the obvious reasons that I'm preparing to head to Las Vegas on the weekend, more on that then. Plus, in the spirit of the third and last Presidential Debate taking place this evening - also in Vegas, we'll have a special edition of ExtraTime to bring you how one member of the Trifecta welcomed the circus known as a major party's national presidential nominating convention and how he became a man on the street.
In the meantime, as you await the arrival of the Bad Blood of the original roommates to Western Washington - which promises to be even more entertaining than what will take place over at UNLV, once again we conclude our weekly episode posts with the reminder that if you want to learn and discuss more about what we saw this past week, here's where you can find the following webcasts and articles pertaining to everything related to Real World and the MTV Trifecta:
● First, Robbie has a YouTube channel that will eventually feature his MaseRobbiee brand but will also be where he will be offering his thoughts on the season as it goes along. After both the premiere as well as the trailer drop, he posted videos that offer both his reactions and his thoughts on what went down...check that out there.
● For someone who knows well the feeling of living with bad blood, Jay from RW Ex-Plosion and Exes 2 hosted a YouTube chat after the premiere to offer his thoughts on that, the season and all else. Check out that video there on his YouTube channel, which also videos he's done with various reality personalities, including Jessica from AYTO 2.
● Last season, the reality TV podcast Bring Me Your Torch began covering Real World and became BFF's with a member of that cast, Kailah. This season, the podcast will be covering Bad Blood, and before the premiere the hosts previewed that season, which you can check out here as well as discussions on just about every reality TV show that's out there.
● Lastly - with a picture being posted just yesterday by host TJ Lavin from the venue of the next season of the fifth major pro sport, if you're anxious for The Challenge check out a great article posted by Jarett Wieselman offering a history of the show and its rise to where it is right now. Check that out here.
