Last week was the first act of this new season of drama and romance, as three big twists were revealed: 11 girls and 11 guys, an offer to trade in a possible no-match in the Truth Booth for more money, and less money at stake if they black out. Along with the usual "get to know you", there were hookups among those who could be a match, an Ohioan & Seattle girl being in the middle of the house's first two love triangles with tears included, and even parents becoming matchmaker. And yes, there was an eventful first matchup ceremony.
This week, the attention turns to two people at the heart of two love tricks mess: Andre, the hip-hop artist from the Twin Cities, finds himself torn between the one going for his heart and the one pursuing him. Meanwhile, Gianna is stuck between the Midwestern nice guy Hayden and the South Florida bad boy Michael who left her in tears last week. And with the always looming possibility of something that's happened four previous times in the past three seasons, the house aims to follow their hearts but will they do anything they can to stay on course?
Coming up, we'll have how the cast saw what happened there on Episode 2 this past week and all of the action, reaction and interaction in and around this second week of their stay in the Dominican Republic. This also includes the eventful After Match after show where two of this season's single girls were also joined by a member of last season's cast. And after the diary, ExtraTime will look at the tight-knit relationship between a family with a most recent Real World alum and a sport taking the worldwide stage this month.

TEXAS TENNIS ROYALTY
As we post this here on NFL championship weekend, typically the sport of tennis wouldn't ring a bell or two to most U.S. sports fans in the midst of winter, save for its loyal fans who follow it year-round beyond the glamour of the Grand Slams. And it's true that today tennis is more popular globally than it is in here after the retirement of the last American man to win a major - Andy Roddick. But then again, of course, there's the enduring popularity and dominance of the Williams sisters who 20 years ago burst onto the scene and have stayed on top on the women's side.
But if you follow the sport all year or watch it only a few times a year, this is the middle weekend of the Australian Open, as tennis fanatics have descended upon the sports loving nation's spiritual capital of Melbourne, and the tennis year's first major championship in the middle of summer down under. And as Serena, Venus, Murray, Nadal, Federer and the world's best serve it up - and Novak Djokovic's shock exit in the 2nd round to an unseeded player two days ago, that offers the backdrop for this week's first piece of ExtraTime where for a pair of siblings, the game of ball, racket and pinpoint shotmaking is one that's embedded in their blood.
In last week's 'Pulse twin bill, a tweet featured in the new "Elsewhere..." section of our diaries was that of that Rivals II champ who was blindsided last year - Sarah - tweeting that she has started up playing that once genteel game in her post-MTV life and sending her appreciation to a guy we saw fall in love in San Francisco and later have a hand in breaking up a longtime Challenge power couple. He gave her a simple, "I appreciate that champ! FTW" with a tennis ball emoji.
On the premiere of his original Real World Ex-Plosion season at around this time three years ago, the first image we saw of Thomas was him and his twin brother & Bloodlines partner Stephen on a tennis court in North Texas. Yes - as you saw in Tom's frustration of what happened last weekend, the Cowboys are a religion in the Metroplex as is football - evidenced by the movie Friday Night Lights, and where they share space with the Mavs, Rangers, Stars, college ball and it being home to golf superstar Jordan Spieth. But to Thomas & Stephen, none of those teams and not even The Challenge take top precedent in the Buell household.

The twins are part of a family who, at press time, had been named family of the year by the Texas chapter of the United States Tennis Association, the game's governing body and hosts of the year's last Grand Slam, the U.S. Open each summer at Flushing Meadows in New York. And their whole family -- not just the guys -- have a bond with tennis.
Their dad, Tom Sr., only took up the game close to 20 years ago but fell in love with it to where he is now a club Professional. Since then, his family would enjoy a steady rise to respect in the sport in their state, even taking a progressive role to help improve courts in their neighborhood. His wife, Lisa, also played tennis as well before becoming a family doctor, and their daughters Jane and Emily were, at time of publication, top players at their junior high school.

And on the big night, it was only when a bar employee noticed the Buell contingent, which included the girl that got close to Thomas in the Bay Area - Jamie, and that person knew that she watched him have to deal with both Jamie and ex Hailey. The family even squeezed in a set or two on the clay courts of the hotel's tennis courts, with the parents getting the best of the Buell twins. The fact of them being honored came as a surprise to the family as, his dad told the site, that they had no intentions on making it to Wimbledon, but more of just living the lifestyle the game has, the life lessons that come with having a racket in hand and keeps those who play active in this gamer era.
