DC ExtraTime: Babies in Bachelor Land with Bad Chad

From the Funny File...

For anyone who identifies themselves as part of Bachelor Nation - this blogger's family included, it's safe to say that 2019 has been quite a year in watching the most well-known of all the romantic reality TV franchises... a subgenre that has now become a rapidly growing stock in the entertainment business thanks to all the shows of love and romance dominating our screens.
   It began in the winter with the 23rd season of The Bachelor starring Colton Underwood, marked by the now famous moment of him jumping the fence of his Portuguese countryside house and running for his life after a date with the eventual winner, L.A. teacher Cassie Randolph. It continued with the 15th renewal of The Bachelorette with Hannah Brown, the tabloid story that saw her turn from Jed to Tyler, and the news that's broke in since last week's "Someone You Should Know" on some of its most notable alumni when word came of Tyler bolting from a scheduled court appearance back home in Florida to date one of the world's most beautiful models & a boy bander's ex, Gigi Hadid.

Bachelor in Paradise 4 cast (ABC)
This week, the annual trilogy of Monday night love on the American Broadcasting Company comes to an end with the ninth installment of The Bachelor franchise's summer spin-off series as Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants get another chance at love after getting eliminated from their original show. After three seasons of Bachelor Pad earlier in this decade, Bachelor in Paradise began in 2014 and follows along the lines of its predecessor in featuring rejected suitors in a tropical destination... a fitting way for the nine months of romance to end before giving way to Dancing with the Stars.
   While Pad was essentially a summer version of The Bachelor Winter Games with challenges and a cash prize given to its winners, BIP has the feel of a traditional Bachelor season with the trademark rose ceremonies, dates and the like. Some key differences include that there's no singular star for everyone else to focus themselves on in this co-ed house, elimination procedures rotate between men and women following the first week's rose ceremonies when two suitors who don't pair up get dumped, and two new people arrive on the beach each week, Ex On The Beach style.

Bachelor in Paradise 6 cast (ABC)
BIP Season 6 began on Monday & Tuesday with twenty rejects getting another shot at love and a rose, including those like Hannah Godwin, Cam Ayala, Caelynn Miller-Keyes, Clay Harbor, Blake Horstmann and Wills Reid -- most of whom joined MTV alum Chase McNary to rewatch themselves again at Bachelor watch parties at his bar in Denver. On TV, we saw Blake go on a quest for love with Hannah, Caelynn and Tayshia Adams; Clay living with his exes, and Demi Burnett reveal that she has a girlfriend - the first same-sex relationship to be explored on the Bachelor franchise. And that's just the first two episodes, with plenty of fireworks to come including conflict of the verbal and physical variety... just your ordinary reality TV love fest.
   If this 2019 edition of BIP promises to be the perfect end to this drama-filled year in Bachelor Nation, than they always save the best for last. But fans of this franchise also know about the 2017 summer in Paradise that was marred by the soap opera of Corinne Olympios and Demario Jackson's fling that got a bit too up close and personal, and saw everyone in Disney hierarchy panic like those dalmatians when they heard Cruella De Vil was at the door. But that fourth season of BIP isn't alone when it comes to sparking a bit of controversy to get everyone talking and viewers tuning in thanks to some good publicity from all the online fodder.

Three years ago, Chad Johnson became 2016's recipient of the award of "Bachelor Contestant You'd Love to Hate." After what went down on his original Bachelorette season with Jojo Fletcher with that memorable one-month stint in the Villa de La Vina, then no one was expecting what would go down on BIP 4, which added more to laying claim to being one of the year's biggest reality villains, all while a guy from the O.C. was busy pickpocketing his partner on an Argentinean mountaintop.
   Chad moved into the house appearing to had plenty to drink on the plane ride down south and picked up where he left off in California with confronting castmates, threatening hotel employees and everything that's NSFW. But it was his outburst at partially-handicapped contestant Sarah Herron (who only has half of her right arm) drew ire from the social sphere, and it led to host Chris Harrison to take him aside. And it was the confrontation between the host and him that saw Chad go home, with the host adding that his exit was the outcome everyone behind the scenes wanted.
   That is only part of the story of the man they call "Bad Chad" -- stints on Famously Single with a pre-daddy Ronnie, the Celeb Big Brother UK house, and his time on Ex On The Beach that included that relationship with Challenge Nicole Ramos. But since so much of what has happened to Chad from when he first appeared on our screens is of the kind of moments that would make us cringe, it would not be right for us to spotlight at least one moment of lightheartedness that is as bright as that photo of him above. That would come a year after Hurricane Chad came on shore not once, but twice.

In late summer of 2017 - during the chaos that was Bachelor in Paradise 4, Jimmy Kimmel Live and its host took advantage of what was going on in Mexico to do their own take on the summer's hottest romantic reality show, and perhaps poke a little bit of fun amidst what was almost the final straw for BIP. But there was a twist to all this in the late night talker's parodies of all things Bachelor: instead of hot girls and guys who got rejected on national TV, the stars of JKL's Bachelor in Paradise would be adorable 3- and 4-year-old toddlers who are more at home watching Mickey Mouse and would be fast asleep while mommy and daddy are watching drunken drama at the start of the work week.
   The third episode of Baby Bachelor in Paradise, which aired on the Sept. 5, 2017 installment of Kimmel, saw none other than Chad come walking into the Bachelor pad with tykes all over him. At first, he says that getting another chance to get a rose and find love would be a good thing... but it's when he finds himself in the company of pre-kindergarteners that he knows that getting to babysit the kids will be a challenge in itself... especially with one of them splashing water at him in the kid-sized pool in the backyard.

Below are this kid-friendly episodes of "Babies in Bachelor Land" with Bad Chad... perfect for laughs after a summertime pool session with the Bachelor, Bachelorette and suitors in waiting. And maybe after you see these videos, can we rename this guest babysitter... Dad Chad?

This week, romantic reality TV fans have gotten more than their money's worth, with the return of Bachelor in Paradise, a trailer drop of season 2 of Temptation Island, and the season finale of Love Island USA with lovebirds Zac Mirabelli & Elizabeth Weber emerging as king & queen of the islands of Fiji. But MTV also has its own wild romantic reality show: Ex On The Beach, and Season 3 is ongoing just as parent company Viacom is ready to tie the knot again with CBS.

Last week in Southern California, the second person of this summer's expanded slate of cast members with ties to The Challenge arrived when Real World St. Thomas alum and 5-time Challenger Marie came up on shore as Devin's ex, and another member of last year's Are You The One crew, Tevin, also emerged to surprise his ex, Kenya. A nighttime party similar to what those who follow AYTO are used to also took over the house in the Kaplan Twins hosting it replete with paint (of course), and we welcomed a new twist in a Crush date as well.

This season's set of singles features two musicians, and one who had his beginnings in the world of television as a singer and a contestant on a music competition series two years ago this week takes center stage and has to answer the question of whether to rekindle things with his ex or go a different direction. Another couple will find also themselves in a precarious spot of whether they are a couple or not, just as the exes are awaiting another Cut vote that will send an Ex home.

Following the jump, it's the Pulse of our fourth week of Ex On The Beach III, plus we'll have a visit from the man who will enter our lives again at the end of this month. Happy Caturday...

DC SociaPulse: Are You The One? Season 8 - Family, Strategy, Booms and Parties

Well, here you are... we're glad you're here with us to kick off your weekend with DCBLOG's view of the MTV Reality world as we see it on a Friday that sees the fandom you're likely part of commence the countdown to a new season of The Challenge. But before we here begin our road to the sequel to War of the Worlds and the Wednesday after the VMA's, the Summer of Love rolls along with Are You The One? Come One, Come All.

Last we left the islands of Hawaii, the house of gay, lesbian, queer, trans & bisexual singles were dealing with something that last happened on the only season of this series where its cast did not walk away with the money: a matchup ceremony where they didn't record a single light. It was after that blackout that the group had to begin all over again down $250,000... but the cast got back up in a big way: they put Brandon and Aasha into the Truth Booth and became a perfect match, and they picked up three beams in the 6th matchup, which when it they need eight instead of ten is good news.

Whenever any AYTO house grabs the first piece of momentum as a truth booth match and a net-gain at a matchup, things typically amp up a bit in the hope category, and this week is no exception as the annual outdoor party under the stars takes over the house. Meanwhile, there's another tradition that takes place each season: those who know the cast better than us pop in to offer some intimate details thanks to family, friends and even exes. And one suitor finds herself walking the fine line of strategy and heart, while our latest trip to Poundtown may have some big consequences.

After the jump, family, strategy, the Boom Boom Room and parties on Season 8 of Are You The One, and the Pulse of this week's episode - which this week moved into a precious spot of airing not just after Teen Mom as Season 1 did five years ago, but also The Hills. Welcome to the weekend...

DC ExtraTime: A Late Night Cop Striptease(!)

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

A world which has long been a big commodity in the television industry has been the world of late night: it's when local stations air their last newscast of the day right as viewers in cities and towns across this country are calling it a night. It's when two MTV series focusing on love of the online and perfect match variety got their start airing opposite that in a precious spot of following a decade-long drama involving generations of baby mamas. There's reruns of sitcoms, syndicated fare and other things to delight those who are in bed, those who are not ready to go to sleep, and those who are just plain insomniacs. And it wasn't that long ago that stations didn't even bother airing these shows, infomercials or overnight news, and just signed off with the national anthem and static.
   The concept of late night television began in the 1950's when NBC began the first incarnation of The Tonight Show, the world's longest-running talk show and the one series that's been on longer than any other entertainment program in U.S. history, joining longtime Peacock stalwarts Today and Meet The Press in having been on since the golden age of TV. It's when Johnny Carson stepped down from his 30-year reign as king of late night that 11:30PM would ultimately become a key time slot of every network's strategy when Jay Leno and David Letterman went from being on after each other after Carson's retirement to when the ladder bolted to CBS as that network's first serious late night player. Soon enough, the likes of Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, James Corden and Seth Myers would join this world, as did someone who got their start in cable land.

DC ExtraTime: Someone You Should Know - Some of Bachelor Nation's Finest

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

For the latest installment of Someone You Should Know, this post takes place during a time where those who love (and who can even pretend to love) romantic reality television are looking at the shows that are on right now as sort of like Christmas. There's the new season of Ex On The Beach that just premiered, the new U.S. version of global phenomenon Love Island, the groundbreaking sexually-fluid season of Are You The One?, and the anticipation for the 4th overall season in the fall of an early pioneer in this field, Temptation Island. But all things in this subgenre lead, point to, and come home to the most successful of these franchises.

Hannah B. and Bachelorette 15 cast (ABC)
This part week saw the culmination of the quest of a former pageant queen to find her Prince Charming on the fifteenth installment of The Bachelorette. Just fresh off of appearing on Colton Underwood’s most eventful season of The Bachelor earlier this winter, 24-year-old Tuscaloosa, AL interior designer and Miss Alabama USA 2018 Hannah Brown was graced with the company of 30 eligible suitors as they looked to win her heart… the first leading lady of this series to finish outside the final four of her previous season and yet still ascend to the role of headliner.
   The summer-long lovefest in Malibu & beyond saw plenty of midweek water-cooler moments in a season Entertainment Tonight wrote helped to reinvent the Bachelor Nation franchise in a time where romantic reality TV has now become commonplace with more shows in the game now than it has been before or since, and all fighting to get viewers' attention. There was the countless antics of Georgia man Luke Parker - including Hannah's viral line "I f__ed in a windmill," Florida college grad Tyler Gwozdz getting sent home for suspicious online behavior, and so many other things in a season that the man who's been there for every step of the Bachelor journey, host Chris Harrison, told ET was one that "was a long time coming."
   That also included the final act that played out last Monday and Tuesday in Greece where the last rose ceremony, final dates and proposals took place. There, the final two of Nashville musician Jed Wyatt and fan favorite Florida contractor Tyler Cameron made final pitches to Hannah, and the former won out the big prize. But in an eerie encore of what went down last year with Arie Luyendyk Jr., People Magazine spilled the tea of Jed having a secret relationship with fellow Nashville singer Haley Stevens while filming took place, and in the snap of a finger gone was the engagement ring as the girl they call Hannah Beast turned her attention to Tyler.

DC ExtraTime: How to Be A Badass, The Fast & Furious Way

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

In the summer of 2001, the world was introduced to a clique of car hijackers in Los Angeles, and the journey an undercover cop had to discover and expose them in this paradise for those who love the automobile. It marked the green flag for the global phenomenon known as The Fast and the Furious, which made stars of Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and everyone who's had a role in the nearly two-decade long series of action films which brought to the fore the world of illegal street racing, which has since become a big deal in cities around the world and in the U.S. on a given weekend's late night.
   After focusing on this underground world that keeps both drivers and authorities alike on their toes in its earlier years, Fast & Furious expanded to feature heists and spies along the way, culminating in the most recent installment of the series, 2017's The Fate of the Furious. And there was also the tragedy that proceeded the franchise's seventh film, when a Thanksgiving weekend 2013 car crash in L.A. claimed Walker's life at the midway mark of filming. Production was momentarily postponed and the film's release was delayed in the aftermath as everyone grieved at his sudden death, which saw Paul's character Brian O'Conner being written out in what became Furious 7, which debuted to record numbers at the box office in spring 2015.
   The Fast & Furious franchise has garnered over $5 billion in gross theater revenue in becoming Universal Pictures' biggest film series and the 10th highest-grossing movie franchise ever, with two final flicks planned in the coming 30 months with the ninth installment currently in production and slated for dropping in April of 2020. And it has expanded to include an animated web TV series, live shows, top attractions at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando, numerous other media, and additional films both of the shorter and spin-off variety, for which the first of the two based on this mega franchise drops in theaters this weekend.
   Shortly after Furious 7, Vin Diesel first mentioned possible movies being in development featuring characters from the series in their own parallel universe. The first of them is Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, which sees the one & only Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jason Statham reprise their respective characters of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw. For years, they've been on opposite sides of a rivalry, but this time they are forced to come together to combat a bigger threat facing them and the world. And in theaters in America and worldwide, the Fast & Furious fandom are getting together once again as the attention turns back to London for this first spin-off film, a special attraction ahead of next spring's release of Fast 9.

As is always the case for these kinds of summer blockbusters that gets brings you to the edge of your seat at your hometown movieplex, action movies require plenty of work of those on both sides of the camera to create the thrilling stunts we come to expect from the movies we love. Filmmakers make sure that their creative vision is realized in every component of the process right down to the most minute of details, including bringing their ideas for thrilling stunts are brought to life in a grand way that gets everyone talking -- at least not socially.
   Stunts are defined by Wikipedia as "an unusual and difficult physical feat or an act requiring a special skill," and where it's become a part of not just action films and TV shows, but also theaters, the circus and elsewhere. They range from special effects of the early years, to the now ubiquitous usage of computer-generated imagery, to the hundreds of those in Hollywood employed to be stunt performers and stunt doubles. And there are companies in this industry which specialize in servicing this important part of any multi-million summer action blockbuster's skyrocketing budgets.
   In 2001, the world of blockbuster movie stunts and reality TV first got together for a memorable years-long honeymoon called Fear Factor. Sure, there's those gross-out contests that defined both iterations of the series with Joe Rogan on the original and the recent MTV version with Ludacris... but it's the last challenge of any episode of the series where the contestants must face their biggest fears yet if they want a cut of the cash that goes to those who survive the test. And those who produce MTV's The Challenge were so much inspired by what happened there, they employ their own team of stunt personnel to test things out before the likes of Johnny Bananas, Cara Maria and friends do what they do best in front of TJ Lavin and all of us.

In the run-up to Hobbs & Shaw, Universal Pictures and the leading behind-the-scenes company in the world of action design, 87Eleven, invited several leading women to join them to try out their talents being stunt doubles for a day. The invitees included model & Instagram icons Jena Flumes and Brandi Marie King, backup dancer turned rising pop star Montana Tucker, artist Jody Steel, YouTube'rs Emily Mei and Mari Takahashi, and fitness guru Iulia Danilova. And two others who got the precious invite are two of those who we are familiar with as multi-season veterans of The Challenge and where their MTV journeys began earlier in this decade.
   Eight years ago during the endless summer of Southern California, Connecticut model and all-around sweet girl next door Ashley Kelsey was filming her season of The Real World San Diego. She became attracted to a then long-haired Michigan country boy Zach Nichols, which continued for some time after leaving Surf City and before splitting up years before a Barbie from the Bronx finally became the one who tamed this giant. And like him, Ashley also became a Challenge champion when they, Frank and Sam won Battle of the Seasons as rookies back in fall 2012... and after taking a hiatus Ashley returned as part of the Champs team with the ex on Invasion of the Champions in 2017 and Champs vs. Pros afterwards before a gig serving as a boxing ring lady came her way.
   A year before Ashley K.'s Challenge return, Tori Deal came to Are You The One? Season 4, where this one-time intern who interviewed hip-hop's best first made a name for herself with her rap battle that led to the famous "Third Eye" mic-drop moment. Her being a perfect match that season to a guy who looks almost a bit like Barbie's beau Ken started a love journey that went from Morgan on AYTO4 to Season 3 alum Magic Mike, then to Derrick H. from Season 5, and finally to her current boyfriend in two-time champion Jordan Wiseley. And if saw her putting on a Hulk Hogan costume at a deliberation on her Champs vs. Stars season or when she joined fellow AYTO alums to prank call new rookie singles, then you know Tori is one who doesn't take herself too seriously.

Ashley and Tori got together with those other invited guests and specialists from 87Eleven as they got to practice some of the same stunts that The Rock, Statham (who looks like one of those I talked to in a past Forum post here) and others got to do in Hobbs and Shaw. Tori captioned on Instagram @Tori_Deal, "I can’t wait to see the new @hobbsandshaw in theatres! I’m going to practice this fight sequence on anyone who wants this smoke while I watch it Hahahahah! Thank you so much Universal for this amazing experience!" And Ashley wrote on IG @AshleyMarieKelsey, "Now this was such a cool experience! Thank you @universalpictures for having me, getting to learn from the best in the business was an experience I’ll never forget! You guys made my first time doing anything like this so fun and getting to throw around a bunch of men all day, my new favorite thing to do!"

If there is a thing to believe in when it comes to romance, for those in the LGBTQ+ community it's that anyone is loved - both for who they are and who they should be able to love. That has certainly been the case with this year's edition of Are You The One?, as the season starring sexually-fluid singles have been offering us.

In the first half of this season, we've seen plenty of action in the Boom Boom Room: a 5-person orgy, several couples who are each other's perfect match both logically and without confirmation from the matchmakers... and there have been moments of both the hookup variety and a concurrent coming-of-age story for everyone in the house. Last week, however, saw the house with things getting to slip away from them when it comes to the important task of looking for everyone's match and winning $1 million: first, they lost a beam in the previous week's matchup, and then they were dealt the biggest blow yet: a Week 5 blackout and them losing money - in this case, a $250,000 penalty.

When an AYTO house does not record a single light at a matchup, in the short term there are plenty of tears and finger-pointing - as we've seen in four past seasons of this. But long-term it becomes the equivalent of free truth booths and the ultimate wake-up alarm for everyone to now change things around. And this week, the singles begin from square one once again, as the attention now turns to starting the home half of this journey trying to overcome toxic behaviors in the dating world, while the man who everyone is pointing to for causing their blackout tries to redeem himself, and another couple grows closer as this season is now at $750,000 game, like it was for Devin and Tori.

After the jump, Week 6 of Are You The One? Come One, Come All... plus we get to offer a tennis analogy. Why are we featuring that? We'll tell you when you join us there.

Hello there and welcome to the month of August... the last full month of summer. And as we head into the ladder days of this warmest time of the year, the love is certainly in the air as we at DCBLOG now bring you into the week that was in MTV Reality and this 2019 Summer of Love, starting here with Season 3 of Ex On The Beach.

There's been plenty of good stuff in the first two weeks of this junior year installment of the "ultimate relationsXXX show," and last week saw some juicy stuff go down. We had our first visit to the Shack of Secrets of this summer when the first couple of a single & ex of this season, Big Brother 19 lovebirds turned exes Mark and Elena, went downstairs for a date that turned into one from hell when the women he swiped right for after their Valentine's Day breakup returned into his life, all before the Dallas radio personality became the first ex to get Cut and crushed. And we saw Anthony's other AYTO ex Shannon come back into his life, this time to also get a drink thrown in his face.

If you remember the first week of February, we were all buzzing about that epic week with the debut of War of the Worlds, the season 2 finale of Floribama Shore and two epic entrances: Kailah coming to Greece to turn Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club upside down and Angela returning to Ex On The Beach to eventually settle things with her ex Tor'i. That will be revisited in some way this week when our latest ex to come from The Challenge comes walking up onto the shore, along with a fairly recent ex of the past twelve months. Our resident twins bring what they do best to the mansion, while a new twist brings the house belief that there is something nice to look forward to now.

After the jump, the Pulse of Week 3 of Ex On The Beach Season 3... and welcome to the weekend.
