In the first half of this season, we've seen plenty of action in the Boom Boom Room: a 5-person orgy, several couples who are each other's perfect match both logically and without confirmation from the matchmakers... and there have been moments of both the hookup variety and a concurrent coming-of-age story for everyone in the house. Last week, however, saw the house with things getting to slip away from them when it comes to the important task of looking for everyone's match and winning $1 million: first, they lost a beam in the previous week's matchup, and then they were dealt the biggest blow yet: a Week 5 blackout and them losing money - in this case, a $250,000 penalty.
When an AYTO house does not record a single light at a matchup, in the short term there are plenty of tears and finger-pointing - as we've seen in four past seasons of this. But long-term it becomes the equivalent of free truth booths and the ultimate wake-up alarm for everyone to now change things around. And this week, the singles begin from square one once again, as the attention now turns to starting the home half of this journey trying to overcome toxic behaviors in the dating world, while the man who everyone is pointing to for causing their blackout tries to redeem himself, and another couple grows closer as this season is now at $750,000 game, like it was for Devin and Tori.

One of what is now TWO perfect matches in the house offering closing thoughts to a bounce-back week in the AYTO8 quest that saw two firsts on this night. For the first time, there was a Perfect Match in the Truth Booth in a week directly following a matchup blackout in Brandon and Aasha. And for the first time on an episode of the show, another Perfect Match was flashed on screen when we found out about Basit & Jon being one of those matches... if you remember Season 1, MTV.com got to spill a couple of early matches before the Originals ran the table five years ago. And the house got to Three beams in the week's matchup - a netgain of +1 over Week 4... it is a long way to get to eight, but as we've seen in the past this game is still within reach.
Now, as the Summer of Sports rolls along with the NFL 100 campaign now in full swing among other things, a little thought: ask anyone who follows tennis year-round what their single favorite day of the year is. They'll shockingly tell you it's not finals day in any for the four grand slams, but the one day where all 16 players in the ladies' and gentlemen's singles draws are in action at the sport's most important championship, which a few weeks ago gave us a new American star in unseeded 15-year-old Cori Gauff who beat Venus Williams in the first round, and ended with the longest men's final ever in grand slam championship tennis.
A day off on the middle Sunday of the annual fortnight at London's All-England Club makes possible the day referred to as "Manic Monday" at Wimbledon. And if seeing the likes of Nadal, Federer, Serena and the biggest names in tennis playing on the same day on the sacred grass courts there is something at SW-19, something like that will be happening this August for MTV fans with an appetizer, a main course and a dessert in three hours to kick off your week. A shift in the schedule now sees Teen Mom OG, The Hills: New Beginnings and this AYTO season air on the same night starting this Monday, which sees McKenzie McKee from TM 3 take the spot vacated by Bristol Palin as the 5th mom on this cast (albeit temporarily), and Brody Jenner find himself in the spotlight again - and after the news that's emerged in the past 48 hours of him and Kaitlynn Carter splitting up.
