DC ExtraTime: Someone You Should Know - Some of Bachelor Nation's Finest

For the latest installment of Someone You Should Know, this post takes place during a time where those who love (and who can even pretend to love) romantic reality television are looking at the shows that are on right now as sort of like Christmas. There's the new season of Ex On The Beach that just premiered, the new U.S. version of global phenomenon Love Island, the groundbreaking sexually-fluid season of Are You The One?, and the anticipation for the 4th overall season in the fall of an early pioneer in this field, Temptation Island. But all things in this subgenre lead, point to, and come home to the most successful of these franchises.

Hannah B. and Bachelorette 15 cast (ABC)
This part week saw the culmination of the quest of a former pageant queen to find her Prince Charming on the fifteenth installment of The Bachelorette. Just fresh off of appearing on Colton Underwood’s most eventful season of The Bachelor earlier this winter, 24-year-old Tuscaloosa, AL interior designer and Miss Alabama USA 2018 Hannah Brown was graced with the company of 30 eligible suitors as they looked to win her heart… the first leading lady of this series to finish outside the final four of her previous season and yet still ascend to the role of headliner.
The summer-long lovefest in Malibu & beyond saw plenty of midweek water-cooler moments in a season Entertainment Tonight wrote helped to reinvent the Bachelor Nation franchise in a time where romantic reality TV has now become commonplace with more shows in the game now than it has been before or since, and all fighting to get viewers' attention. There was the countless antics of Georgia man Luke Parker - including Hannah's viral line "I f__ed in a windmill," Florida college grad Tyler Gwozdz getting sent home for suspicious online behavior, and so many other things in a season that the man who's been there for every step of the Bachelor journey, host Chris Harrison, told ET was one that "was a long time coming."
That also included the final act that played out last Monday and Tuesday in Greece where the last rose ceremony, final dates and proposals took place. There, the final two of Nashville musician Jed Wyatt and fan favorite Florida contractor Tyler Cameron made final pitches to Hannah, and the former won out the big prize. But in an eerie encore of what went down last year with Arie Luyendyk Jr., People Magazine spilled the tea of Jed having a secret relationship with fellow Nashville singer Haley Stevens while filming took place, and in the snap of a finger gone was the engagement ring as the girl they call Hannah Beast turned her attention to Tyler.

A year ago, the hybrid of reality and romance welcomed its most wildest show to America when a localized version of MTV's global phenomenon Ex On The Beach premiered the first of its three seasons. Not surprisingly, The Bachelor has been part of Ex/USA's first couple of seasons including Jasmine Goode from Nick Viall's season of two years ago, as well as the succeeding season of Bachelor in Paradise which made headlines for the wrong reasons last year.
JoJo & Bachelorette 12 cast (ABC)
Three of those who've gone through springtime love in the Villa de La Vina in the Malibu hills have also taken their talents from rose ceremonies and JoJo Fletcher's season of The Bachelorette in 2016 to the MTV world. Last season, we saw Chad Johnson, aka "Bad Chad," add Season 2 of EOTB to his resume when he dated Challenger Nicole Ramos, all after gaining a villain reputation on Bachelorette 12, the succeeding Bachelor in Paradise season, a stint on series of Celebrity Big Brother U.K. and starring alongside a post-Sammi and pre-daddy Ronnie from Jersey Shore on E!'s Famously Single. Meanwhile, the one who made it to the proposal stage that year, Robby Hayes, has been romantically linked to two girls who share common college ties in having gone to Florida State University: Juliette Porter of Siesta Key and Kathryn Palmer of Are You The One? Season 5... not to mention Scheana from Vanderpump Rules after their date on Season 7 earlier this year.

That one who beat those two to be the first to join the MTV fam as a regular cast member was Chase McNary, who was part of the original Ex U.S. class of singles last year. Those who watched him that summer of 2016 remember the heartbreak he had to endure getting rejected by JoJo on the finale and finishing in 3rd place, and who almost became the Season 21's leading Bachelor. Chase's time on Ex saw him get close to New York fashionista Victoria until the last Crush ceremony where, after what happened to him on The Bachelorette, he told her to keep her crush lei, much to everyone's shock. And most recently, we saw him on The Challenge: War of the Worlds, but only briefly in having the unpredictable Ashley M. as his partner, and they fell victim to Hunter & Georgia in the very first elimination in Africa, just after the controversial ending to Final Reckoning.
While he's been spending time around the world filming those three seasons of TV, the allure of home eventually brought Chase from treks out west back to where he grew up in Colorado, and awaiting him was a PR job behind the scenes at a startup Denver bar near the home of the baseball Rockies, Coors Field. And in a few short months, the Revel Social has become the preferred hangout spot for those in Bachelor Nation in the Mile High City, especially in those Monday nights when it plays host to one of the many watch parties that enthrall fans of the granddaddy of all romantic reality TV franchises... and that includes this blogger's mom & dad and even his niece when they and my aunt watched that eventful two-part finale.
Having opened before Thanksgiving last year, Revel was barely two months old when Colton was there on the porch of the Bachelor villa to greet Hannah and the other 29 ladies back in January. Ever since, it has hosted weekly watch parties which has given those who've given their hearts on national TV a chance to connect with fans in this town 5,280' above sea level. Because of Chase's short Challenge stint - the second Bachelor suitor to suit up after Josh Murray on Champs vs. Stars I, Revel hosted the Rocky Mountains stop on this year's Challenge Mania tour with Derrick Kosinski and Scott Yager, as they welcomed Challenge alumni KellyAnne and Nehemiah; and it also hosted a WOTW premiere party with Big Brother representatives Morgan and the Nolan twins.

Those who have joined Chase as guests of honor at Revel are among Bachelor Nation's most popular alumni. Here's some quick synopsis of those who've gotten to enjoy the drama of love and roses, along with the Instagram proof below...
The aforementioned Josh Murray won The Bachelorette 10 and got engaged to its titlist Andi Dorfman before they split after a year, and then met & proposed to Amanda Stanton on the summer 2015 series of Bachelor in Paradise... and that too, also did not work out. As MTV Challenge fans know, Josh was one of those lucky three on the Stars side to make it to the final challenge on CVS 1 where they sat back to the culmination of total domination by Team Champs.
One of those who appeared with Jasmine and our last subject to be profiled here later on both Nick Viall's Bachelor season and on the BIP 4 was Miami business owner Corinne Olympios, who first earned Nick's affection after stripping down at a beach photo shoot. Their flirting did not sit well with the rest of the house, but Corinne eventually made it to the final four.
For that mess that was BIP4, the story that broke the fandom was the claims of sexual harassment claims that temporarily shut down filming. There, LA executive recruiter DeMario Jackson was caught in a drunken sexual encounter with Corinne, which saw filming suspended for a week and both involved parties leave the beach. That's not the only situation DeMario has gotten himself into: him being found to have a girlfriend at home got him kicked out of his 2017 Bachelorette season.
Indiana native Ben Higgins first appeared on Bachelorette season 11, and then became the main man for Bachelor season 20. He also leads the charitable organization Humanity & Hope United, where in summer 2017 Ben brought Gianna and Hayden from AYTO Season 5 for one of the many annual trips he and his team take to villages in Honduras to help children and needy people in one of South America's poorest countries.
On the other end of Arie-gate, Minnesota native Becca Kufrin was instantly given a second chance when she was named the star of last year's Bachelorette amidst the public outcry at the IndyCar racer passing her over for Lauren Burnham. The Midwestern sweetheart would get her redemption in choosing Reno medical sales rep Garrett Yrigoyen as her fiance in last year's finale without any incident. Chase wrote in the IG caption, "I am going to go ahead and say it. This is the best couple to come out of The Bachelor Franchise.
One who got dumped earlier on during Becca's second quest for love was Jordan Kimball, a former business & accounting major from north of Orlando who, after getting his college degree, turned his attention to posing as a model. Jordan came back a few months later to be on BIP 5, where Robby and Colton also were on the cast, and where Jordan was one of the four who get engaged in the last rose ceremony and had a brief relationship with Jenna Cooper from last year's Bachelor.
Those who've also joined Chase for Bachelor watch parties which will continue through the end of summer and tomorrow night's BIP 7 season include the other love story of Josh's BIP season - Carly Waddell & Evan Bass, Connor J. Obrochta and Blake Horstmann from Bachelorette 18, Bachelor Nation's own sister act of twins Emily & Haley FergusonJason Tartick from Bachelorette 14, and Cameron Ayala from this past Bachelorette season, and where he and Blake are among the first wave of suitors returning for BIP 6.

Last but not least, there's the one member of Bachelor Nation who's certainly garnered a fair share of attention in MTV land the past year: it's when word of what a soon-to-be Challenge villain did behind her back that Danielle Maltby entered the tabloids' radar screen. The Milwaukee-area nurse was also on the same Nick Viall Bachelor season as Jasmine and Corinne, who won the first one-on-one date with Nick in SoCal but got eliminated before the late-season hometown visits. She then went onto BIP 4 a few months later but left Mexico shortly after, all as she seeked for love years after she lost her fiance to a drug overdose.
In January of last year, Danielle and Big Brother 18 alum Paulie Califiore became IG official just after he filmed season 1 of Ex On The Beach with Chase. But it's when word got to her months later from halfway around the world that #Pauielle would crashing down hard when she found that he had cheated on her with Cara Maria when they were filming The Challenge: Final Reckoning. So began the cycle of everything that's transpired for this love triangle that become one of the big stories of the MTV Reality year of both 2018 and this year in the ongoing relationship with Cara & Paulie, and Danielle getting in on the act as she looked in on their world, all as tabloids, podcasts and Stans everywhere all got to become witnesses to this soap opera sub-plot.
Nonetheless, Danielle has pressed on after what happened with her and Paulie - including appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Valentine's Day night when, with the help of Tinder, she was matched up with Wills Reed from Becca's Bachelor season - who was also featured in one of the photos above and also headed for Mexico in less than 24 hours. Chase had Danielle in town the week Hannah gave Luke his marching orders from Greece and he called her appearance "...the best Monday night Revel Social has ever had! ⁣;)," while she wrote on IG @DMMaltby, "Wow! Y’all loved this dress as much as I do! Thanks for all the love last night!"

Before Colton walked out of the villa to begin an eventful nine months of roses, heartbreak and controversy for the Bachelor fandom, Chase posted a IG picture of him meeting JoJo on the driveway without that cheesy disguise of glasses and a fake mustache when he entered that mansion for the first time three years ago. The caption of that picture describes the feeling only a small handful can relate to in letting America spend the start of their workweek with this years-long journey of love and what the next wave of suitors should find themselves when the cycle begins after we ring in the new year and decade in five months from now:
"There I stood, like so many before me and like the 30 contestants tonight will. After stepping out of the limo, or something of the sort, into a whole new world. Most will experience reality TV. Some will feel the effects of public notoriety, and few will have their lives completely overhauled.  I am grateful for the highs and the lows that I have been able to experience since my time in that driveway. And I have all of you, Bachelor Nation, to thank. Now, it’s time to witness which direction life will turn for Colton and the 30 women that will walk across that watered down driveway!"
Tomorrow night, those who didn't score love will get another chance to redeem themselves, which also includes the other Hannah of 2019's Bachelor offerings in fellow Birmingham native Hannah Godwin, Miss USA 2018 runner-up Caelynn Miller-Keyes, and retired NFL receiver Clay Harbor... and given how anyone who's been part of this reality TV legacy can pop up at any time on the beach, perhaps Chase could be waiting in the wings for a third chance at love on national television, which if that happens should hopefully be validation that the third time should be the charm. Keep your eyes peeled in the coming couple months to see if that happens, and imagine what the Revel club will be like seeing their biggest star on TV once again.
