Throughout the past several seasons of The Challenge as well as many other MTV shows, an aspect of these shows that, if it was an actual member of the cast, would certainly qualify for MVP honors has been the music department. Whether it's the action of the fifth major pro sport, the drama that takes place in Siesta Key or any other reality show that airs on the channel or produced by it, those who choose the songs that accompany scenes in these shows have certainly nailed those choices.

It was after the April 1st premiere of All-Stars was made available on Paramount+ that news trickled in unexpectedly from the world of hip-hop involving a heavyweight of the late '90s and 2000's, DMX. The debut of the spinoff to the regular MTV competition show featured the track "Ruff Ryders Anthem" when the competitors came home from their first challenge of going underwater that, along with many other songs, instantly brought back memories to viewers streaming the first episode.
What an honor to have #DMX on the premiere episode of #TheChallengeAllStars ... you will be missed but never forgotten.

The artist who actual name is Earl Simmons had quite a career in the hip-hop world when he dropped his acclaimed and successful debut album It's Dark and Hell Is Hot in 1998, followed a year later by his mainstream breakthrough ...And Then There Was X and its accompanying single "Party Up (Up in Here)." DMX would continue to craft hits throughout the rest of his career including being the first to notch five straight #1 debuts on the Billboard 200 album charts, and he would also soak his feet in the movie world starring in Romeo Must Die with Aaliyah and Exit Wounds as well as a BET reality show.
But as it turned out, the choice of that DMX flashback on All-Stars came at what would become a peculiar time in his life: he had frequent troubles in the law for numerous offenses including a recent charge of tax evasion two years ago. He had similar problems with his health including an addiction to cocaine, going to drug rehab three times and a bout with asthma in 2016. But five years later, Simmons was hospitalized for a possible drug overdose... and after many reports being refuted by family and his manager, the rapper would eventually be pronounced dead on Friday at the young age of 50.
