Ten years ago, MTV's The Real World headed to Las Vegas for the second time, where it gave us an iconic Challenger who has just hung up his uniform for the last time. Leroy Garrett made his way from being a Detroit-born garbage man to being a beloved & respected competitor in his decade-long career, despite leaving this chapter in his life as one of the best to never win a title... though having a great girlfriend in "Killa" Kam Williams doesn't hurt either after falling short on Double Agents.

When Lee made his debut on Rivals down in Costa Rica a decade ago this month almost off the plane from the desert, the one who had the enigma of being his partner was Michael Adam Royer. He might rank as one of the least-liked people in Real World history due to his obnoxious behavior, which after destroying the suite at the now-former Hard Rock Hotel (now Virgin Hotels Las Vegas) and falling in love with Nany Gonzalez. And Adam's bad boy ways continued on Rivals where he got kicked out for a second straight show for getting into it with Ty Ruff after he & Lee shockingly won that first daily challenge.

During the midst of his stay in Sin City -- and a far cry now as he's now a Orange County, CA-based lawyer, both Adam and the one who he tipped to Nany about that now infamous scandal, Dustin Zito, tried their hand at an activity that's as Americana as apple pie, blue jeans, country music and a summer's day at the local fairground. And earlier this summer, one who got to compete with Nany on War of the Worlds but who made a name for himself two times in the romantic reality television, joined with a guy who shared the same Big Brother house with four future Challengers for a night at the rodeo.

When most sports fans think of equestrian they'd think of the sport of kings of horse racing, while others in the Olympic world would think of show jumping, dressage or the three-day event that combines those two with an endurance phase. But rodeo can also count as part of this genre, with its roots in cattle herding in Spain and the Americas, and the skills needed for cowboys and vaqueros to do their job... especially in the western U.S. & Canada, and in Mexico. It takes on official sport status in Texas, Wyoming and South Dakota, while Alberta also considers rodeo much a part of their identity thanks to the annual Calgary Stampede.
The sport of rodeo in its modern form involves horse, bulls and other livestock as it seeks to test the skills and speed of cowboys and cowgirls alike, and encompasses a wide variety of events, from roping and steer wrestling, to bronc riding and barrel racing. But no matter how broad any night's card is, the main event in any pro rodeo event is bull riding: there's nothing quite like the thrill of going for that ultimate thrill ride aboard a 1,500-pound goliath. And the rule is simple: try to stay aboard that bull for eight seconds and you're safe... or prepare for the consequences and even broken bones.
The event Adam and Dustin went to in Vegas was part of finals weekend of the Professional Bull Riders pro tour, one of two major U.S. rodeo competitions along with the National Finals Rodeo in December. It is organized by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and its WPRA female counterpart, which also help oversee competitions at all levels from youth to college. And last week, CBS gave national TV exposure to a PBR-certified all-Black touring rodeo promotion after Juneteenth was signed into law as the nation's newest national holiday.

After the twisted year of 2020, reality television fans are now getting back into the groove of their traditional packed summer of big shows. It's most especially true of the romantic reality genre, as last night across the pond saw the premiere of the seventh series of Love Island UK, falling in between the two waves of Season 2 of Netflix's Too Hot to Handle. Soon, the American version of the former will take to CBS for its third season, joining Season 17 of perennial favorite The Bachelorette as Katie Thurston's quest for love continues, to be followed in August by Season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise.
One person who knows what it's like to be part of the heat of trying to find that perfect match in those two ladder shows is Chase McNary, who five summers ago was on JoJo Fletcher's Bachelorette season -- one that would contribute him, Daniel McGuire and Chad Johnson to MTV's Ex On The Beach and introduced Siesta Key queen Juliette Porter's rebound guy Robby Hayes, for which he and Chase made it to the Fantasy Suites on JoJo's season before she chose Jordan Rodgers. And earlier this summer, Chase made a trip up to Buffalo Chip Saloon in the Phoenix area with a reality veteran.

In a week from now, not only will Love Island return to CBS... it'll also share the stage with Season 23 of the show that says summer to reality fans everywhere: Big Brother. If you're in the know of what's going on in Challenge Nation, alumni of both those shows from its U.S. & overseas variants will be on the next season of the fifth major pro sport in Croatia. And the ladder has certainly made a huge impact on both The Challenge and on EOTB, with three from Season 20 of three years ago making the final as rookies on Total Madness and then again earlier this spring on Double Agents.
One who lived with Fessy, Kaycee, Bayleigh and Swaggy C in the BB20 house that summer of 2018 was Brett Robinson, a Hartford area native who came to the house from Boston where he worked as a cybersecurity engineer after attending the University of Alabama, and enjoys working out, working around the house and going snowboarding. When the Eye asked him what his strategy to conquer the BB house was Brett replied, "I plan to go in and establish a minor amount of control initially. Then, immediately pull back from the spotlight. From there, I will rotate face time with every single person in the house. I also plan to lie about my current occupation and life. Then, I will slowly plant my seeds of stories throughout the entire house, causing chain reactions that I will have to dynamically calculate on the fly."
When he moved in, Brett forged a reputation for being arrogant but also being hilarious (as detailed by him being dressed up as a grandma for losing a Power of Veto challenge) when he joined the alliance that ran the summer in Kaycee's Level Six clique, which also included who would be the one he'd be closest to in Kentucky's Winston Hines. He would also escape getting evicted twice in his first month in the house along with trying to infiltrate Swaggy and Fessy's FOUTTE alliance. After winning a POV, Brett tried to influence Tyler Crispen to turn on Kaycee and Angela Rummans, which proved to be his downfall as, on Day 86, he would get backdoored, blindsided and evicted in 6th place on Double Eviction night... though it was in him being mistakenly referred to as "Brent" by host Julie Chen-Moonves that most remember of his last night on Big Brother 20.

On Mother's Day Weekend, Brett joined Chase in in the desert oasis of Phoenix as they got to partake in a local rodeo where they faced off against the bulls, who usually weigh up to 1 ton... and that is certainly a challenge that is not for the fainthearted. Below, they take on this epic mission -- and the Big Brother reminds us in the comments, "@pbr were coming for you." Stay tuned if they make it to the big time.
