When we left Croatia at the end of the first hour of this battle back last Saturday (for reasons to be explained below), we began with TJ Lavin dropping his latest Teej-bomb on the ten remaining players of the almost thirty that began this whole thing back in August: in order to make the final, they would have to sweat out one more set of eliminations -- a double one. While it was Tori and Devin who won their way to the final eight, it was Amanda who won our hearts in falling short but having came here to compete for her newborn back home... though it was what happened with one of the agents helping out that left a sour taste in some.
Tori, Devin, CT, Emy, Kaycee, Kyle, Nany and Nelson advanced onward to the $1 million final which, once again, will last two days... and the teams were split down the middle into foursomes. And at the end of the first part it was the first four on that list that were in the lead... but you cannot win a Challenge crown on the first day alone. As we return to Croatia, the fight continues with the kind of exhausting test that brings every aspect the players have endured this fall & winter into the fore once again that will determine who reigns victorious. And en route to the finish line, a big story of this season may find itself going through one more big hurdle, while a moment etched in many's minds in the past five years of this show will have a role in what happens after the agents finish this marathon.
Ahead, DCBLOG offers you the SocialPulse of the nineteenth and final week of competition of Season 37 of The Challenge, as we find out who wins it all on Spies, Lies & Allies. And it's with what happens at the end that will offer the context of the ExtraTime story that follows: a night of history being made in reality TV that also gave one rapidly-growing section of our society reason to celebrate... and this blogger can also lay claim to being part of that community. Well after all of that, we have worthy champions to all of this: we have our second five-time champ in CT who adds more to his legend... and Kaycee adds this ring to winning Big Brother 20 three years ago. As it turns out, there's more to all this.

HISTORY FOR THE FILIPINAS
Now, something that you probably don't know about me: I am a Filipino-American having been born to parents who grew up in the Philippines, and where last night all our relatives came to our house for our first big gathering in two years. As such, we've always looked forward to getting together for fight parties whenever Manny Pacquiao took to the ring for his many fights in his career... and here in this Christmas outside my house we are displaying a "parol," a decorative lantern Filipino families put outside their house during a holiday season that's actually longer than it is in the U.S. as the observance of the season begins in late September rather than around Thanksgiving on this side of the Atlantic.

Canada has had it all good in the past decade or so with the Vancouver Olympics, the Raptors' NBA title, the women's soccer team winning gold in Tokyo last summer, and even trolling Americans after the last president was elected. The nation has produced its own stellar reality resume with Bachelor icon Daniel Maguire from Season 4 of Ex On The Beach U.S. as well as its own version of Big Brother, which takes place each springtime in March and will play a key role in one of the shows we'll be covering in the new year. And both of these worlds came together to produce our latest Sole Survivor...
32-year-old Erika Casupanan calls Toronto her home, who sees herself as "fun, fearless, empathetic, smart and articulate," and who loves traveling, fitness and following whatever is going on in pop culture. She paid off her college loans at age 27, gained a job being a communications manager, and quit that occupation to compete on Survivor, a show which she imagined being on over a decade ago...

In her bio, Erika explained how she gained a key aspect of the Survivor game well before she joined the other castaways and host Jeff Probst on that ride to that deserted island in Fiji: "I've been manipulative since before I knew what manipulation was. I relentlessly pursue my dreams. The great thing is no one would expect it because of my youthful face and small stature. I can make it to the end and am confident in my ability to advocate for myself at final tribal."
In the end, Erika went all the way to that final tribal council ceremony where the members of the jury consisting of players eliminated after the merge made their vote of who should be the winner. And on a night where fellow Filipino-American Kaycee won Spies, Lies & Allies with CT, a Filipino-Canadian won Survivor... and this comes three years after fellow Filipina Catriona Gray won Miss Universe 2018. And Erika celebrated this historic night not with being with the other castaways for a reunion, but with her family & friends in Canada's biggest city as the present situation prevented this year's cast from gathering up one more time. One person who knows this feeling of winning, Tommy, wrote to her, "Congratulations ! Getting taken at final 3 is the new thing now 💪."
Erika wrote in part below in Instagram, "I came. I saw. I conquered. Even if you didn’t see me coming 😉 I’m proud to have played as myself, embracing all the strengths, weaknesses and quirks wrapped up in this lil bod. I’m most proud of how my victory is not just my own. My win is shared with anyone who saw even a little piece of themselves in my journey. It’s an honour to have represented Canadians, Filipinos, Asians, immigrants, women and anyone else who saw themselves in me. I hope that when you want to chase a dream that seems impossible, you remember that everything you need is already inside of you. I’m proof." It is, indeed, history for those of us who call the Motherland a second home.
