Inside MTV Reality: It's A Party at the All-Star Shore

Summer 2022 is now officially in full swing thanks to the long weekend that mixed both Father's Day and the second observed Juneteenth holiday, plus the longest day of the year of the Summer Solstice -- and now, Pride weekend as the LGBT month of celebration wraps up amidst a divided America after what happened yesterday. Summer also means that the reality genre is front and center on the broadcast television calendar, which includes another spinoff of the fifth major pro sport: MTV's The Challenge: USA will debut just after the 4th of July on CBS, and that is only part of a busy summer for those at what is now Paramount Global will have on the reality front -- on television and on streaming.

One year ago, the re-merger of CBS and Viacom into one company once again brought the Eye network, MTV and their various networks under the same umbrella, as well as a blockbuster movie studio that now bears the company's name of Paramount. Wherever you go, their impact is just about everywhere: the fact that Top Gun: Maverick broke box office records over the Memorial Day weekend signaled the return of the communal experience of watching movies at the local cineplex... and soon, another rite of summer will begin in an all-new season of Big Brother, along with that new Challenge that we at DCBLOG will be previewing next week all while Season 3 of All-Stars rages on.

Back in 2009 after waving farewell to the ten-year run of Total Request Live in Times Square, MTV reinvented itself once again as a spot in December offered a glimpse into the channel's next decade: at around the same time as the premiere of the first installment of the Teen Mom franchise, Jersey Shore debuted with no idea that it would not only overtake The Osbournes as the most-watched show in channel history, but also become a pop culture phenomenon. Think back to 2009 and 2010, and you can imagine that the cast was just about everywhere... and to go from being lampooned for the stereotypes it portrayed when it premiered to being loved a year later. It's why the show still radiates over a decade later... and you can see proof of it in the Family Vacation spinoff that began four years ago.

Ever since, the Shore franchise has become a global name: 2011 saw the debut of the British equivalent of Geordie Shore, followed by Warsaw Shore in Poland, Acapulco Shore in Mexico, Gandia Shore in Spain and Super Shore with housemates from the ladder two shows living together. And five years ago prior to the Vacation, Floribama Shore debuted down in Florida which was then followed just this week by its cousin Buckhead Shore outside of Atlanta... and more localized versions are planned for later this year in Australia, Argentina, Colombia and elsewhere to join the just premiered Rio Shore in Brazil.

It's with the expansion of this marquee franchise from one that was originally filmed for VH1 in the summer of 2009 into a global phenomenon that offers the backdrop for the latest addition to the Shore series... and one that will bring together those from different versions of these shows, plus even a few from outside of this ecosystem, for a competition show unlike any other. And if the three All-Star Challenges and the upcoming CBS one are something for us in Challenge Nation, then what happens by the Shore here will be the perfect summer pleasure.

When the British first took over The Challenge on Vendettas four years ago, the Shore franchise had its first representative in the series in multiple-season Geordie staple Kyle Christie. Him being able to hang with everyone else competitively in making several finals while also making his mark outside the game proved that there is a competitive side to those who were chosen to just have the summer of their lives... and a few Challengers also have Shore experience including Gus and Mattie from Floribama who competed with him on War of the Worlds.

Thanks to the Paramount+ platform, we now get to see how it all began for the Pirate turned Dad in the entire series (or as the Brits call it, a box set) of Geordie Shore is now up... same goes for Acapulco in Mexico, our own Jersey and Floribama series, and spinoffs Snooki & JWoww and Double Shot at Love. And if you can count Hulu, it also has Super Shore along with a whole bunch of other reality franchises that we all are familiar with.

The company that is now Paramount must've seen how awesome the All-Stars concept has become to The Challenge and to RuPaul's Drag Race on P+... so has the recent Challenge seasons and Ex On The Beach when it comes to the idea of bringing different fandoms together from around the reality world. It's with that in mind that the idea was hatched to bring that crossover event to the Shore franchise... and it has taken a page from those first two shows to bring a competitive element and combining it with the party atmosphere that epitomizes any iteration of an MTV Shore series to create this All-Star Shore.

All-Star Shore is being described as a "first-of-its-kind party competition series"... and if are lucky enough to catch any of the first few Challenge seasons in seeing how wild those daily challenges were back then, then you have an idea of what this show will sure be like. And if you saw the first preview of it during the MTV Movie & TV Awards and then in the trailer that is embedded here, then that will be the case... just imagine, a high-stakes version of beer pong or taking tequila shots -- that will be prevalent on here. And to add more to all this: the same Canary Islands that just hosted Season 5 of EOTB will be welcoming second set of party-hard kids to this paradise, this time for both fun and games.

It's not just the Shore franchise that's been represented on here -- even though the one lady who's finding herself at the heart of this season's Vacation drama will likely have much of the attention alongside those from Geordie, Acapulco and Rio by her side. As it is on our Ex On The Beach, there's also those from that aforementioned Drag Race, from Bachelor Nation, Love Island and even Love Is Blind on that rival streamer being represented in the cast below... and we pretty much know who the headliner is.

   MEET THE CAST

THE ONES WHO WE KNOW...

🏖️ ANGELINA PIVARNICK - Jersey Shore: From the moment she moved into Seaside Heights with that infamous trash bag thirteen years ago, we pretty much knew Angelina was gonna be memorable... but it was only when she surprised us in Miami that it would really ring true. There's no doubt: she brings the party, the loud mouth and the drama to this villa... and to add to all this, there's what's going on back home with Ang coming into this that will sure be THE hot topic to watch this summer.

🏖️ BLAKE HORSTMANN - Bachelor Nation: Following in Chad, Chase, Daniel and Robby, Blake is the latest from the world of roses to come to MTV... he came onto the 2018 Bachelorette season and was the last one passed over by Becca... and then he made his way to Bachelor in Paradise the following year. This time in a totally different environment than he has the first two times he's been on TV, Blake has his eyes on the money... but that doesn't mean that there could be some love waiting.

🏖️ GIANNINA GIBELLI - Love Is Blind: Two long years ago, those who love to Netflix & Chill got to enjoy Love Is Blind, and Giannina emerged as a breakout star with her relationship with Damien. But after last year's breakup, she is feeling ready to take another shot at love while also tackling both life and the competition side of this world -- and this time she will get to go face to face in the same house. Perhaps, there could one that could win Giannina's heart here.

🏖️ JOHNNY MIDDLEBROOKS - Love Island USA: Season 3 of our Love Island last year saw it call the very EOTB-1 house in Hawaii home, and where in the end the couple that won the top prize will actually be on separate shows. For here, Johnny developed a reputation as a player, but this time he will have a competitive game to play rather than on the love. But habits can die hard in this environment when Johnny may find some attractive ladies in the villa.

🏖️ TRINA NJOROGE - Love Island USA: That third season also saw Trina from California join in on the fun in the fiftieth state, taking a break from her psychiatric nursing duties after competing to be in the Miss USA Pageant representing California. She's developed a reputation for how that mind works and will do what she can to get an edge in the house... but Trina will have to be careful here because spilling the tea a bit may hamper things.

🏖️ VANESSA "VANJIE" MATEO - RuPaul's Drag Race: Season 4 of Ex On The Beach saw Adore become the first from RuPaul's Drag Race to come onto MTV, and now comes Vanjie from Season 10. The presser describes her as "...a fierce drag queen whose sharp wit and unfiltered personality quickly prove 'Miss Vanjie' is also fierce competition'." Vanjie came up short on that 2018 RPDR season, and hopes that this time there will be a better result waiting for her.

THE BRITISH INVASION

🏖️ CHLOE FERRY (GBR) - Geordie Shore: Newcastle native Chloe has been a staple of Geordie the past seven years, and who's also spent time in both the UK Celebrity Big Brother house and on Super Shore with the aforementioned Kyle. She's one who is anxious to not only come into our American homes for the first time, but also show off her competitive side as well... and Chloe's also sure to have a drink in her hand while having fun too.

🏖️ BETHAN KERSHAW (GBR) - Geordie Shore: Bethan just so happens to be Chloe's bestie, having been on the past few series of Geordie dating back to 2019. She brings with her the kind of big personality that we've seen with JWoww and a big heart as we've seen with other Shoremates... but that doesn't mean that she can be flirty. And things could develop with one of the Stars that might prepare her for things to maybe get out of control.

🏖️ JAMES TINDALE (GBR) - Geordie Shore: Of all the Geordies, only James has seen the show's entire evolution from when it began ten years ago to being the only member from the first series to be on its most recent seasons. He's had quite the history on the show for most of the past decade, and we're sure he wasn't happy being passed over for The Challenge... but now that the opportunity has finally come thanks to All-Star Shore, James is ready to bring it.

🏖️ JOEY ESSEX (GBR) - The Only Way Is Essex: But the headliner of the British quartet is one who's been on so many of these British reality shows: Joey was a frequent visitor to The Only Way is Essex, who has twice been on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, and made his way to Celeb Ex On The Beach across the pond. His competitive CV will more than help him out on All-Star Shore (and his U.S. debut), and maybe that charm will also clique with everyone in the Canaries.

THE MEXICAN/BRAZILIAN PARTY

🏖️ KARIME PINDTER (MEX) - Acapulco Shore: Like James in Geordie, Karime is the only OG who's seen every step of Acapulco Shore since it premiered in 2014 on MTV Latin America. She's partied hard in that party capital south of the border and in other locations where the show has visited in its nine seasons. But competing will be a totally different thing for Karime as she comes to our screens here, but she loves money and will want to do whatever it takes to win...

🏖️ LUIS "POTRO" CABALLERO (MEX) - Acapulco Shore: Luis is another Acapulco original who was on the first seven seasons of the show until leaving two years ago, but before that he was on All-Star's spiritual predecessor Super Shore for a few years. He is known back home as "The Seducer" along the lines of what viewers have seen from other guys on this show.. but here Porto has his eyes on the game itself. It's just a question now of whether he can live up to that here.

🏖️ RICARDO SALUSSE (BRA) - Rio Shore: Until Buckhead debuted this week, Rio was the new kid on the Shore block when it debuted last year down in Brazil. Ricardo was one of those ten chosen to live up near Copacabana, but he does come into here not as big or strong as the others in the house game-wise. But Ricardo hopes to make up for that disadvantage with his quickness and smarts to get deep into the game, along with his party ways as only Brazilians know.

🏖️ MARINA GREGORY (BRA) - The Circle Brasil: She's got something in common with Ed of last year playing a virtual game while in isolation... only here, Marina speaks Portuguese while playing Brazil's Circle. She's become a social media star after leaving that complex and even has some musical chops who's eyeing an MTV VMA spot... but what Marina will encounter will be a totally different kind of game when she goes face-to-face in this environment -- and with those not speaking her language.

In our Look Ahead on this show back in January, we called this potentially be "The Biggest MTV Crossover Event Ever." And while it might be disputed a bit by what will go down in two weeks with The Challenge: USA and other projects that might be coming up ahead, this is the first time that a Super Shore-like show has been seen on our American screens and featuring the Dirty Little Hamster as part of it. If those who have been following the buzz around the hot stove since this was filmed all those months ago right up until now, there's been plenty going on that's kept the tabloids busy... but it will be only in the next few days will we get to see it unfold. And below is your first look... we're gonna have some fun.

🌴    🌴    🌴    🌴

On the way here, we'll be staying true to our customary tradition of here of getting to know the rookies (at least in an MTV and American sense) of this All-Star Shore series. Who Are These Newbies? will come your way in the next few days as we will introduce our blog readers to everyone on this cast (save for Angelina)... and that's only part of a busy next few weeks for us here, as next week we begin our coverage of The Challenge: USA with a similar several-part preseason series.
And we're also covering that third season of Challenge All-Stars, and doing "Shore Wraps" of All-Star and Buckhead Shore -- and this doesn't even put into account our ExtraTime storytime posts which, this week, will substitute for episode coverage this week in following the journey one Star and the one who he lost in a famous elimination took to Ukraine at the outset of the Russian conflict. We hope you'll join us for all of our coverage Inside MTV Reality.
