The MTV Love WRAP: Are You The One? Global - Week 2

It's the first weekend of the second month of 2023... and if you're reading this post while in the mood for some lovin', you now officially have 10 days (and this 2/3/23 Friday) to prepare yourself for the Super Bowl of Love that comes two days after the actual Super Bowl: that would, of course, be Valentine's Day. And in scaring you with trying to figure out how you'll be spending that Tuesday night in a fortnight, we got this edition of the DCBLOG MTV Love WRAP to share with you as we cover Are You The One? Global... and we sure have missed being around the Truth Booth.

The big show known simply as AYTO has returned into our hearts for the first time since September 2019 and before this world lost its collective mind... but it was as if things picked up right where the Come One, Come All season 8 left off. That would be of all the debauchery that takes place whenever you have some hot girls and guys sharing quarters on a reality dating show... and in this case, we had your favorite icebreaker game of Never Have I Ever spark plenty of hookups -- as well as identify candidates for this year's "F-Boy"... none other than the DJ with the blond hair, Brandan. But all the fun that the house had to begin this return engagement did not prepare them for the rude awakening they got.

That would be an unprecedented first in series history of a week 1 blackout -- no lights in the first matchup ceremony in forty months... which cost them $250,000. It has certainly rattled the house the same way that a 4.1 earthquake & a 3.2 aftershock shook Los Angeles just as those who stayed up for the midnight episode release here out west. But as we return to the house, there may be nerves rattled but always plenty of optimism that comes with a fresh start... and after the break & later than billed, the MTV Love WRAP brings you week 2 of AYTO Season 9. And welcome to the weekend, lovebirds...


     THINGS TO KNOW     
EP. 3 - "Rollercoaster Relationships"

❤️ BLACKOUT FALLOUT - Up until Season 9, the house's theory of handling the first Matchup Ceremony was just try to start out with two lights and get it over with... but what we saw with the first-ever week 1 blackout was just shocking, to say the least. Leo's hopes that Brooke is his match is snuffed out despite their plans to want to stay together even if it's not for the game purposes, and it's the kind of experience that can get people to cry including Taylor. Clay says of this, "We're gonna have to reshuffle everything we've been doing, and take a good hard long look at ourselves 'cause this is pathetic," and Jordanne adds that it is "...beyond embarrassing." No wonder it gives the house reason to try to drink, all after that blackout - quite literally.


❤️ AWKWARD DATE - The week 2 getaway challenge sees the guys try to figure out which girls just became single (CC, Jordanne and Taylor were up to 4 months before going in)... and it's Hamudi and Leo who get chosen -- and they respectively pick Anissa and CC. But when they arrive at on their destination of an amusement park, then it feels apparent that Leo & CC are not quite compatible as you can see below -- quite obviously, the house opts for Hamudi & Anissa and they aren't a match.



❤️ GIRLS' FIRST DIBS - It was the guys who led off the season picking the Matchup pairs, which means that if we go the distance (which is very much a sure thing if past history is an indication) the ladies will ultimately hold the key to the $750,000 safe. But before we think that far into the future come spring, the girls get their first dibs at picking in the even numbered weeks... and they know that they want to not only get at least one beam, but also do better than the guys. And they do in finally getting on the board at two beams.

In essence, the week 1 blackout sees this game begin all over again -- albeit, a nine-week quest now for love and $750,000. And typically when the road to 11 for 11 begins at this phase, it's basically the same game but with a much lower number in the odds category thanks to what went down. But finally, there is some optimism at night's end...

AYTO Math's calculations at the end of Week 2 sees the first couple that has a decent shot at matching the mark of Mikameron and Maria & Shamoy of having the shortest stay in the singles house: site webmaster Alex pens a 20% chance that Hamudi & Mijntje could be a match after his date with Anissa. But keep an eye on what might happen with the next to last pair above... we'll get to that then.

BEST OF WEEK TWO

And we sail off from here with Twitter's best from Week 2 in the Canaries... and more on that cameo on RuPaul's Drag Race with the one and only Asaf. And maybe, just maybe... could Tai Verdes have some company in having someone go from AYTO to the music big time?
   While you ponder that in seeing who in this cast has those vocal chops, just ahead The Challenge reaches its stretch run to the final with those two AYTO alumni still in the running.
