DC ExtraTime: The Kedo Guido Takes Las Vegas

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

Ten years ago this summer, MTV was faced with its first summer without the show that guided them through their first period of 21st century renewal in Total Request Live, which signed off one last time from its Times Square studio in late 2008. But there was a week in early December of 2009 that would shape the channel's next decade, one whose roots were planted that summer by Amber Portwood, Catelynn Lowell and Maci Bookout when they appeared on 16 & Pregnant, and whose progress through the early stages of parenthood were documented on spinoff series Teen Mom.
   A few days before they and original girl Farrah Abraham extended those 15 minutes of fame with a show that has now lasted ten years, another group would help set the path that would help to reinvent MTV during an age where YouTube, Netflix and social media would compete with the attention of the short attention spanned millennial audience. Jersey Shore debuted on December 3, 2009 and from the start the show made a big impact... first for negative reasons before the show even debuted in placing the state of New Jersey and the Italian American population in a bad light. It was further amplified when a then-uncensored clip of a man punching a female castmate at the bar gave it unwelcome publicity during those first weeks in the midst of the holidays.
   But eventually, things would come around thanks to any kind of publicity... and fans and viewers alike would ultimately embrace Snooki, Mike The Situation, J-Woww and the rest of the group during the show's original six-season run, numerous spinoffs and the whole group getting together for the Family Vacation revival last year. Everything from famous one-liners and catch phrases to the romance of Ronnie & Sammi and the group's unique dynamic would become cultural hallmarks, as did the time share house and Danny's Shore Store on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk that became the epicenter of attention of the public every summer by the Atlantic. Their success inspired many Shore spinoff series in Britain, Europe, Latin America and here at home with Floribama Shore.

While #SamRon, Snooki & J-Woww, and the Sitch's abs were the focus of those first two seasons, someone who flew under the radar early on was Vinny Guadagnino, who takes pride in being a proud mama's boy being raised on Staten Island from a traditional Italian-American family. His mom, Paola, was born in the town of Sicily on their family farm, and immigrated to America at age 13. When he gave birth to her, he almost died upon delivery and had to spend a few weeks in hospital before it became safe for him to come home to eventually becoming a middle child with two sisters.
   Vinny has always been that one who the girls always love to bring home to mom, but having a near 4.0 GPA college, who loves to write stories and has a political science major & an internship for a NY State assemblyman under his belt, he also has the smarts that would also be welcome to parents. And had the show not been a success, you would've likely seen him in the hallways of law school... his LSAT test took place hours before his national TV debut.
   As we've seen both in those first two seasons and then in this reboot, Vinny sure has a long history with Angelina... and there was that time long ago when he was spotted in bed with Snooki. We all know that he is the master of the fist-pump, and he also got to invite celebs to his house for his own talk show in the company of his family. And of course, there's the famous bromance with DJ Pauly D. that's brought them to so many places together the past decade, including their latest chapter on A Double Shot at Love with Pauly and Vinny, undoubtedly the most hilarious and lighthearted of all the romantic reality shows that have been on TV this year.
   Both those who know & have followed Vinny all this time know about his family's famous Sunday dinners, for which it became a weekly tradition for his adopted second family. Last year, who can forget Paola & uncle Nino flying all the way down to Miami with their food for a big dinner with the group towards the end of that first Vacation, followed by another one on Thanksgiving. Both mama Guadagnino and her son even had their own cooking show on The Cooking Channel.
   But also in the nutrition department, Vinny has become the most prominent celebrity to endorse the keto diet: a plan that embraces low-carb, moderate protein and high fat. His own keto diet Instagram @KetoGuido has over 700,000 followers, and has seen him shave off 50 lbs., earning Kourtney Kardashian and Halle Barry's approval. And it was just this summer that he dropped his own keto cookbook in bookstores to bring his newest passion into the home kitchens of families everywhere.

Welcome back... earlier here this Saturday, we brought you the first power move of The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2 when Big Brother alum Josh made a gutsy power move that eventually saw Wes get eliminated at the hands of Bear. The Brit who just had his biggest moment of his young Challenge career is an alum of the UK version of the show that came along with his nation's invasion of the fifth major pro sport, Ex On The Beach, and Season 3 of the American iteration rolls along during a week that saw an original, Season 1'er Chase, enter Bachelor in Paradise.

Bear knows what it's like to witness love triangles with some of his Team UK teammates during his two stints in the infamous villa, and last week saw the U.S. version's latest one continue to unravel. And Cameron has turned from a boy band wannabe and a doctor on a crime drama into the unsung star of this season... and last week he & his exes Ariana and Alexis were sent down into the Shack of Secrets to face Judge Devin in court, and his roommate came by to testify before the ladder was the latest Ex to be sent packing in the Cut votes.

This week, it's back to giving away hearts and a Crush Date for the Malibu residents, and the spotlight turns, at least temporarily, to the headlining single of this cast one who saw her ex come by last week and create a competition for her heart - and that includes someone Mr. Pots & Pans is familiar with. Yes, there will be more drama surrounding Cam as the uneasiness the house has with him continues... but not everything will be dramatic: the three-ring extravaganza known as a circus will be heading to the hilltop this week. That means, Halloween comes early.

After the jump, Episode 9 of Ex On The Beach 3, plus the release of Mike the Situation after his 8 months in prison, more reaction to treason on The Challenge, and a man from Siesta Key goes back to the past. Thanks for joining us...

Well... welcome to the weekend everyone, and if you're an MTV fan this is definitely a most eventful week: the season finale of The Hills: New Beginnings as Speidi renewed their vows and got a first look at why Brody & Ashley Jenner went to Splitsville; a new Teen Mom season debuting along with the new series Ghosted, and of course Mike The Situation being set free on Jerzday. And that, along with plenty of love, is just the tip of the iceberg, as we at DCBLOG are about to bring you through this momentous week starting here and now with the 'Pulse of The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2.

Last week saw us learn more about the traitor twist to this season where whoever wins in elimination can get a chance to pull a double cross on their own team and join the other... but it didn't happen with Idris. At the week's challenge, swimming came into the picture earlier than what we've had in past seasons, and it was not only a dominating U.S. win, it also exposed the Brit's weakness in communication. And Killa Kam did it to us once again as she became the speaker for her team in leading the discussion in the tribunal, which as it was the previous week saw weak opposition in Big T facing off against WOTW finalist Georgia.

Georgia's impressive elimination win gave the Brits some hope that they can finally get something going in the game itself, and this week they will try to do just that when they and the Americans tackle, of all things, a hamster wheel while also having to figure out some codes and straws... but it's what happens at that third challenge that will no doubt leave a sting in one of those teams. For the man who, two years ago, used pots & pans en route to ruling the summer roost, he contemplates risking it all with an early gamble... and it causes commotion for both teams as they handle the second guys' elimination in Thailand.

After the jump, it's all the action, reaction and interaction of Week 3 of The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2. And welcome to this weekend's trip Inside MTV Reality on DCBLOG... nice to have you with us as we delve what's been into no ordinary week.

DC ExtraTime: An AYTO'er Gets "Lip Locked"

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

For the past few years, MTV has taken advantage of its YouTube/MTV channel to provide sneak peeks and additional content surrounding all of its franchise shows to help drive up TV viewership, and last month they went a step further and gave all of them their own channels. And concurrent with the linear channel's increased ratings and exposure, the MTV Studios unit has also spiked up production of short-form and regular series that can only be seen on the net's biggest video site.

Last year, MTV went into the vaults and offered an update of its '90s afternoon hit Singled Out, which saw two members of last year's Are You The One? cast - Kwasi and Daniel - look for another chance at love... this time with singles being dwindled down from 50 to 1 and a date to the winner, just as when Carmen Electra, Chris Hardwick and Jenny McCarthy hosted the show 25 years ago. And the buzz surrounding YouTube power couple Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau can be attributed to her reality show No Filter: Tana Takes 21, which followed her all the way to their wedding night.

Amidst the mania surrounding Jake & Tana, and during MTV's summer of love of AYTO and Ex On The Beach, there was another romantic reality show... but this time, it's different from handing out roses, going into the Truth Booth or even dreading a trip to the Shack of Secrets. This series is called Lip Locked, and the title simply says what the show is all about: people kissing each other... and like Singled Out, Justina Valentine from Wild 'N Out is the show's host.

The objective of Lip Locked is bringing couples together for the ultimate test of trust: can they successfully identify their partner from just the kiss of him or her, of their partner or someone else?  During this short-form series, couples ranging from newlyweds to longtime friends and gay couples have had the chance over this summer to test how much they know each other just by one of the five senses of touch. One member of the couple joins two others to be the three kiss'ees, and the other half has to do this blindfolded... and it's only after the kisses are all done that the person chooses who he or she kissed and to see if they are correct. And yes, this is a hard task for everyone going onto here.

For the lead-up to this story, we have to rewind back to Are You The One? Season 6 - which was introduced to everyone two years ago this weekend. While the love triangle of Nurys, Malcolm & Diandra, and the romance of Geles & Anthony was dominating the buzz that fall - and then brought them to Ex On The Beach, another key romance in New Orleans was that of South Carolinan Alivia Hunter and New Jersey model Kareem Fathalla. They were together for much of the time in the AYTO house and continued after they left the Big Easy until broke up after over a year together.

For here, Kareem has been hired as one of the two guys picked as decoys to the couple who joins Justina in this episode of Lip Locked: Jeffrey and Rose have been dating for three years, and he says that she is a good kisser... and she can tell who she's kissing just by another of our senses of smell... and that could be an advantage for her going in. Jeff's goal is to try and stay calm while Rose is kissing all three men... below, see if she can pass this test... And we may not be done with more AYTO crossovers into MTV YouTube series... we'll let you in on yet another appearance for "Mr. Chocolate" later during this cuffing season.

Who Are These Newbies? - The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2

Due to the heavy presence of graphics and video, "Who Are These Newbies?" is best viewed & experienced on desktops and advanced mobile devices.

EXTENDED POST - 19 Mins.
BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

We are two episodes into this season of The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2, and things have already heated up in Asia with the first team-formatted season in a decade pitting most of those who we saw earlier this year on War of the Worlds 1 on either side of the Atlantic. And tonight sees more of the same, as a show that, 20 years ago, began as a spinoff of the Real World and Road Rules ecosystem, continues its rise among the broader reality competition subgenre.
   Every season, we at DCBLOG task ourselves with an early-season assignment to scour the web and help answer the question, "Who Are These Newbies?" in reference to rookies making their debuts on The Challenge and those people of note from both reality TV and pop culture who come to Ex On The Beach. We make sure to give everyone their proper welcome in helping you, the readers, get to know them better and add some background, insight and context to their journeys. And the people we've profiled on here numbers at nearly 120 people since we first did this for our first full MTV season of Rivals II in 2013. For this installment, it's all about those across the pond.

Imagine what this decade has been like for the folks in the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland - it's not been an ordinary one but an eventful one too. It began with Gordon Brown in the office of the most powerful legislative authority in the British Commonwealth as Prime Minister, followed by David Cameron, Theresa May and now new boss, former London mayor Boris Johnson. The most recent change at 10 Downing Street came after all of the events surrounding the UK's controversial decision to leave the European Union, and the deadline of Brexit is currently slated for this Halloween. And seven years ago, Queen Elizabeth II marked 60 years since her ascension to the throne with a Diamond Jubilee, and has been witness to three Royal Weddings this decade: William & Kate, Harry & Meghan Markle, and recently the Queen's granddaughter Eugenie.
   Athletically, Britain has thrived in the 2010's with London hosting a memorable 2012 Olympics, while cyclists Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas and Mark Cavendish have thrived in the Tour de France... so have golfers Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy. Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have emerged to claim boxing's world heavyweight championship, while Lewis Hamilton has won four Formula 1 world titles. Andy Murray ended a decades-long British tennis drought by winning two Wimbledon titles, two Olympic golds, a U.S. Open and clinched the 2015 Davis Cup. After their semifinal run in the World Cup last year, English football continued that momentum with Manchester City claiming a domestic treble of the Premier League and League & FA Cups; while Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all played for the European trophies. And in July, England won a thrilling Cricket World Cup, decided by a 6-ball "super over" after a tie in regulation in the final, and a run-out of the last batsman at the Lord's Cricket Ground, the game's spiritual home.

It's with this historic decade for British sport that will give reason for those who bleed the British colors to continue this momentum into, what they hope, will be a first Challenge crown - and it will have been a team effort should they lift the trophy by the wintertime. And if you glance over at all of the competitors of this season, and there are numerous histories amongst the 32 of them in total... we Americans know about what Team USA have, but if you're checking us out from across the pond, then the histories among the British challengers both here on this season and going back to Vendettas is just as juicy and worthy of the red top tabloids.
   Those who saw two previous series of EOTB UK know about the beef Kayleigh Morris and Melissa Reeves had over one of last season's prospects in footballer Ashley Cain, while Kay is also linked with two other lads who've been part of this invasion in exes Joss Mooney and Stephen Bear. Geordie Shore alums Kyle Christie and Zahida Allen share the same hometown of Newcastle, while the former was witness to having a tattoo of his ex Holly Hagan getting inked on the first season of Just Tattoo of Us UK, hosted by Bear. Theo Campbell and Georgia Harrison were on the same 2017 series of Love Island UK before they both made to the WOTW final earlier this year, and everyone knows of the bromance that Joss and Rogan O'Connor have.
   Now, it's the turn of six more Brits to join this British invasion, and they share links with these people and shows that they've been on in having been on a previous series of EOTB UK and on last year's installment of UK Love Island. But this time, there is also representation from shows not known much in America that have elements of taking place on an island, in the wilderness and in the middle of nowhere, as the gap between American and British television narrows much more.

After the jump, we introduce you to this fall's rookie class of War of the Worlds 2 in this all-British installment of "Who Are These Newbies?"  We do caution here at the outset that certain videos embedded in this post contain adult language and situations, and suggest parental guidance.

DC ExtraTime: The First Pump Rules Baby, and Love in the Rockies

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

Two items to share with you here in between tonight's finale of Are You The One? - which we'll be covering here over the weekend, and tomorrow night's War of the Worlds 2 Challenge...
   Last week saw the latest instance of what is one of those sacred Cardinal rules in the current Challenge constitution: do something bad or suspicious in front of TJ Lavin, and you'll be crucified by both him and likely by social media. We will not make mention of all of those who he has come down hard in all these years on the show, but last week had the latest moment of people p'ing off TJ like the dad scolding the son who didn't take out the garbage.

IG @KingFaithHope
It was before they went into their second straight elimination battle that the Brits had that they got to stay up well late into the night like they're with Kyle and his fellow Geordie Shore ragers. There, Faith Stowers - who we saw on Ex On The Beach and Final Reckoning last year - got into an argument with Kyle and Bear after she was woken up at 3AM in the morning. But there's more to why she was woken up by the Brits, and what happened next, where as she told Us Weekly, she and a number of other Challengers were affected by, "a bacterial infection in our lungs," and saw everyone cough so much that she almost threw up, like so many of us including me who couldn't get through a night's sleep because they were sick... Wes included.
   It was after calls by the Americans to not disturb the peace that Faith took a page out of Josh's Big Brother playbook with some pots and pans, more arguing and finally going to bed... only to be woken up by production to ask her what happened. Needless to say, this was not a normal night for Faith, as she went off into the night before Georgia's elimination win. But as it turns out, Faith used this unfortunate moment to spin this news the right way to something that sees her join some company in both the MTV Reality world and the wider reality TV genre... and the show she started on.

Google "Vanderpump Rules" now, and you'll find plenty of gossip and items on all the personalities who work in the most famous restaurant in all of West Hollywood. This includes this summer's wedding of Jax Taylor & Brittany Cartwright, and the engagement weeks later by Stassi Schroeder. But as that show heads towards premiering a new season come the holidays, this very fact is something that's hard to believe for those in Pump Rules land: except for the boss lady herself, Lisa Vanderpump, no one presently on the cast or who have appeared on the show in the past are parents. That changed just after last week's Challenge episode aired with the following Instagram reveal.

With that caption in announcing, "I’m excited to start this new Chapter in my life with my heart ❤️ and best friend! 💕," Faith announced that had become pregnant with her first baby and with her boyfriend as she added, "At the end of the day this is all I live for. God bless all of you!"  And with this, she becomes the first present cast member or past alum of Vanderpump Rules to ascend to the role of mom/dad, beating the show's big stars including Scheana, among others to parenthood.
   Instead of people going off on her for quitting the show - and in a week that also saw Zahida also leave to tend to a death in her family, reaction to Faith's pregnancy announcement echoed what happened earlier this summer to Amanda and Hunter: nothing but congrats from everyone - fans & reality people alike. This included someone who, last month, became a mom for the second time in Kayla Sessler of Teen Mom: Young and Pregnant who wrote, "Congratulations !!❤️❤️ so excited for you !😘" And Faith can look to those who are (and will become) parents for advice on how to handle the next big chapter in her life that comes in the new year, including Da'Vonne who wrote, "🗣OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m crying !!!! I’m so excited for you !!!"

Two years ago saw one of the most shocking moments we've ever had in recent MTV Reality history: the 10th & last matchup on Are You The One? Season 5. We'll spare the details of that chaotic night here, but in the wake of what happened there in the Dominican Republic, things have turned to be fine for them.
   Kam has become a Challenge staple, Derrick H. has taken his talents to many other MTV shows (including one new one this fall), Taylor has found love with Ex On The Beach single Cory (and have joined Cheyenne on Teen Mom OG) and so has Ozzy with Season 7's Nutsa; Gianna & Hayden are parents to a 1-year-old boy, Casandra was on a Bachelor show last year, and Edward appeared in the Magic Mike-inspired docu-film This Ones For the Ladies. And with her on season 3, Shannon has followed Mr. Chocolate, Tay, Andre and Alicia to EOTB... with maybe more ahead.
  Another person who was on the first cast to not score their matches and win the jackpot was Carolina Duarte, a Brazilian native from Seattle when we met her two years ago in the Caribbean. Until now, Carolina had bad luck in love: her match Hayden stole her money on the Second Chances spinoff that followed Season 5, then she had a few months' romance with Keith from Season 6 that ended badly.
   But third times the charm this time: a year ago, she fell in love with Cam Bruckman, the tall Coloradan from Season 4, who didn't figure much into the drama of that season there in Hawaii. And a week ago today came the biggest news of all.

With that moment in Telluride, CO - a bit a ways from Denver, Cam & Carolina got engaged when they went into the countryside, up to the base of a waterfall and the moment that changed both of their lives. She's the second member of her cast to sport an engagement ring after fellow alum Kathryn Palmer said "I do" earlier this year.. and he's the third member of his season 4 class to also make a successful proposal, joining two fellow power couples - Stephen & Julia of his cast, and Tori Deal & her man in Challenger Jordan Wiseley. He wrote on Instagram, "On Tuesday, I asked my best friend and partner in crime to marry me and she said YES! I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you @carooduartee You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I am so proud to get to show you off for the rest of our lives."

This is awesome!"
   Our congrats go out to Faith, to Carolina & Cam, and the many of those we have not mentioned as of yet who have announced new news on babies, engagements and the like that's too many to mention, but that we feel proud of them and send our well wishes as their next chapters now await.

DC ExtraTime: Mechie Goes to... Divorce Court(?!)

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB

This week's episode of Ex On The Beach saw us go into something that you've likely have seen in either passing it by on your way to work and school, and a handful of you have walked into: court. When we saw Cameron, Alexis and Ariana head into the Shack of Secrets this week, we were all shook that they had to confront the truth about his ways with them, and a roommate of his being called to the witness stand. But you can't help but giggle a bit at the sight of one of the most divisive people we have in MTV Reality, Devin, becoming Judge Walker with a judge's outfit on.
   The genre of court shows has has been around longer than most of you think: it began in the 1930's on radio and moved to television when it began to become commonplace afterwards. Simply out, they are programs that present legal hearings between plaintiffs and defendants, and a judge overseeing the proceedings which typically focuses on small claims court cases. Early court shows presented dramatizations of actual court cases acted out by actors and a pseudo-judges, including one in the '50s hosted by future ABC Sports broadcaster Jim McKay, while the most famous court program of its era was the venerable Perry Mason... and this was the standard until the '80s.

In 1981, the court genre as most take it now began when The People's Court debuted as the first court show to bring real cases and real people in arbitrary litigation to settle disputes between neighbors, families and inmates, turning Judge Wapner into a daytime star in the 80s, and Marilyn Milian carries on his legacy today. It is one of the many reality-based court shows that fill local TV stations' daytime schedules today, including Judge Judy with retired New York judge Judy Sheindlin among others. And this fall sees venerable talk show legend (and a friend of MTV staple Nelson Thomas) Jerry Springer premiere his own entry into this genre, Judge Jerry.
   But neither of those shows lays claim to being TV's longest-running court program: Divorce Court began in 1957 on future FOX station KTTV in Los Angeles and was a highly-rated show both locally and in syndication during that time and in the 80's. Previously a scripted-based series, Divorce Court returned in 1999 as part of the reality court boom and this month sees it begin its twenty first season (and 35th overall) of settling disputes of couples going through divorces. Former Cleveland area municipal court judge, Lynn Toler, has presided over the proceedings for over a decade, and who hears such juicy items as betrayal, trust and infidelity.

Someone who has yet to have an ex emerge onto the beach at just about the halfway point of this season is Mechie "So Crazy" Harris, and as of now we've seen him in just a few scenes so far here - outside of interviews & commentary. But when that time comes for the spotlight to turn to him in Malibu, it will be during a time where he's made up for the relative lack of screen time in Malibu with releasing his video for "Wanna Be Your Man" which, this week, crossed the 1 million views barrier. And last week, he played in Ludacris' Labor Day weekend celeb basketball game in Atlanta alongside Tyrese, Jamie Foxx, Durkiooo, YFN Lucci, Blac Youngsta and the Hawks' Trae Young.
   While in the same city that hosted the just concluded Real World season - and where he also headlined the Taste of Soul music festival in downtown, Mechie paid a visit to Divorce Court -- not to have to hear details about a case brought against him, but to promote its new season which premiered this week, and for which it tapes its episodes in Atlanta. There - and as seen in the videos below, he joined Judge Toler and the show's host & reporter Nick Barrotta to chat about what viewers can expect in the new season.

It's a Sunday Funday... and wherever you are we hope you are enjoying the last hours of this first weekend of the fall, which includes our first NFL Sunday festival of football and on a night that sees one of our subjects from last year, Big Brother romance Swayleigh, return to the big house tonight after this past week's juicy double elimination. And it's elimination week in Malibu as well as we bring you back here for the Pulse of Week 8 of Ex On The Beach 3.

Last week a lot went on in Ex land, including a Crush Date with Cameron and his ex on the countryside when then was invaded by another one of his exes and turned this romance into a threesome with him, Alexis and Ariana. The Bash Brothers of this house, Mark and Billy, were at it again with the Kaplan twins... while we had another house party: this time it was an ER-themed shindig after Kenya returned from a brief stay in hospital attending to personal matters.

This week, the threesome is once again the focus, as this time they are summoned to court and the man at the heart of the matter stands trial for crimes against his Exes... and you'll never guess who is the judge. For our lone Big Brother rep in the house and the star lady of this season, they may have some company coming to the house in this week's Ex arrival. And the hilarity of what we've seen here continues with some sumo wresting.

After the jump, the Pulse of Episode 8 of Ex On The Beach, plus more reaction to this week's War of the Worlds 2, another pregnancy announcement and good news for one of the competitors. Thanks for joining us...
