It's Sunday Funday, and we welcome you once again to our coverage of the MTV Trifecta on DCBLOG. And as we head towards the beginning of summer 2016 in some two weekends from now, things are starting to heat up. We had a carny, tears and roommates in Las Vegas which we'll discuss here later tonight, while the buzz is in full swing for AYTO Season 4 with the explosive trailer that dropped last Monday. And in Mexico, things are now starting to get into a groove on Rivals III.
Last week, Season 28 of The Challenge got underway with the competitors kicking off their season with a rock star crying uncle when everyone skydived their way into this season. We also saw a girl whose original MTV stint lasted all of four episodes finally come out of her shell a bit by scoring a hookup with the defending champion. And we had a first challenge where trust and communication was being tested right out of the gate, which befell many a team and once again saw a team classified as rookies win that all important first mission.
This week, Jenna and Vince - both with something to prove going into this season - hold the key to the fate of twelve other teams in the house for the season's first elimination. But as they deliberate with various teams and everyone else wheels and deals, what they don't know is that they're about to be put in for a stunning super-twist. Plus, there's a stunning revelation involving one of the teams, and a girl who has a positive outlook but has been ridiculed somewhat finds both a new person to cuddle with and finally silences the doubters.
For all of how your favorite castmates saw what, in essence, was the second part of the premiere, then dig in to all the reaction that's ahead of you. So, it was the smart move on the side of the MTV editors to end the Rivals III Premiere when that first mission ended, as the big twist would finally be revealed to everyone, and it was surely a game changer. The power team will not only vote in one, but two teams into the jungle, and the team who draws a black skull faces that last place team in elimination. In the end, as many so-called purists expected, two of the three AYTO teams were voted in by Jenna & Vince, and it was Cheyenne & Devin that lost to Jessica & Johnny for her first elimination win. Also, we had the shocking medical evacuation of Leroy for the 2nd straight season, which in turn sent Averey home. And Princess also got to mingle with one Tony, who also bared all as well. We'll have more on the season's first elimination, as well as your reaction and this week's Double Shot of Real World Go Big, on this week's DC WRAP in a few days. Now, let's digress...

SPORTS MEDIA'S (AND KATIE NOLAN'S) BIG NIGHT
Much of what I do here in covering the MTV Trifecta takes its roots from a favorite pastime of mine: watching sports television and the great work networks do in bringing sports' biggest moments and greatest stories into our living rooms and mobile screens. This site has a unique approach in covering the RW/Challenge franchise and AYTO in basing ourselves around a philosophy of putting an emphasis on high-quality coverage and storytelling that you would see on the likes of NBC, HBO and ESPN's 30 for 30. That's why you see really compelling stories - long & short - covering this ecosystem take more precedent here on this site than power rankings elsewhere. In my mind, there's no better franchise that's suited to this coverage.
On Tuesday, the sports television community came together for the Sports Emmy Awards in New York City as they honored the best work of the past year. The person who was the highlight of my 2014 Thanksgiving Night at Levi's Stadium, Bob Costas, picked up his 27th Emmy for what they should really rename in his honor, Outstanding Studio Host, among seven awards for the Peacock, all as they mark a week where they snatched away ESPN stalwart Mike Tirico. CBS was honored twice for Super Bowl 50 (which we covered here during game week), while NCAA hoops analyst and "Mr. Onions" Bill Raftery was named Top Game Analyst. And Raft's longtime broadcast partner, Verne Lundquist, was honored with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
Outside of those three vets, the Winner of the Night was a member of the night's top honorees FOX Sports, who won 10 awards. Katie Nolan began her rise to stardom in sports media as an online video host providing a lighthearted and unusual spin on pop culture. FOX caught her eye and she was brought in from her hometown of Boston to join FOX Sports 1's Crowd Goes Wild with Regis Philbin and friends as its digital host, and she began to make a name for herself with her outlook on sports. Soon after, she got her own digital show in blending sports with her unique sense of humor, and it didn't take long for her to her to return to TV, and return she did.
The result is Garbage Time with Katie Nolan, where she gets to tackle the week's biggest sports stories done in her unique manner with her wit and audacious opinions, sprinkled in with interviews and comedy bits; and with the behind the scenes help of the producers of Men in Blazers. And as FS-1 has struggled in its battle against the four-lettered, 800-pound gorilla of sports media, Katie is one of the few bright spots for the network in bringing that sense of "fun" the channel pledged to sports fans when it launched three years ago. Garbage Time remains both a social sensation and a viewer favorite, airing the same night as not only The Challenge but also The Ultimate Fighter.
So, it was no surprise that she would win a Sports Emmy for Best Social TV Experience for the show and was even nominated for Best Weekly Studio Show along with Inside the NBA and football pregame shows. Katie was surprised that not only she would win, but also being hurried up on stage at this non-televised gala as she was going to present an award with FOX colleague Kevin Burkhardt, and of course it caught her off guard but with good reason. Her tweets best summed up the moment in four-letter words and the thrill of being honored with the TV industry's biggest honor, when she least expected it. Congrats to Katie and to all the Sports Emmy winners.

And tomorrow, it's Game 1 of the NBA Western Conference Finals with Golden State vs. Oklahoma City, followed by an all-new Dude Perfect Show.
