This business end of this season began last week when the doors of the Redemption House were locked up as the residents of that villa battled one more time to regain their spot in the game. In an elimination doubleheader, a season-long feud saw Bananas & Tony get the best of Shane & Nelson, while Killa Kam added to her glorious elimination record. However, she & Kayleigh couldn't keep the momentum going after that win in a grueling endurance challenge in the South African countryside and they were eliminated as the last place team, while Joss & Sylvia took the win.
They, #Banony, Paulie & Natalie, Ashley & Hunter and Cara Maria & Marie will this week find themselves on the edge, as the final challenge looms and one more set of a daily challenge and an elimination will take place... in the same week of all things. Alliances will dissolve into the desert as a SECOND trivia challenge will test everyone's brains and nerves ahead of the final exam. For a budding romance who we saw get sealed with a tattoo earlier this fall, the flirtation for a champ and an upstate becomes something a bit more. And to add to what's been a wild season to say the least, a big twist in regards to the final is revealed... and if your memories are fresh about that hot August night, you'll know what we mean.
After the jump, it's the Pulse of the penultimate week of The Challenge Final Reckoning, followed by a trip to the Strategy Room for our evaluation of the final four and our predictions of who we feel will win. And thanks for staying up with us this weekend...

STRATEGY ROOM
THE FINAL FOUR
Compared to what we had with the two other finals of this trilogy, you might say that this is the most wide open field for a Challenge final in some time, though we have two previous titlists in the final field of eight competitors. However, everyone has made their case to be one of those four teams that now have aspirations on $1 million. Briefly, our evaluations of the finalists:
● ASHLEY & HUNTER: It's true: they might be considered why there's been resentment - fellow blogger Allan Aguirre included - about the Mercenaries twist and how it's been used this season. But after what we've seen from them, Ashley & Hunter have a lot to play for: she's trying to be a two-time champ amidst what we've seen from her here, while Hunter looks to make everyone who loathed AYTO joining this show eat their words. They won that elimination over Angela & Faith to gain their spot here, were power team once in this game, and yet there's been some tension with them all along here. Should they win this final there's a good chance one will pull the steal, something that the other three teams will likely not do. Keep an eye out for that if that happens.
● CARA MARIA & MARIE: On paper, this would be the team that should be favored in this final on the basis that it has the only player who has made all three finals of this trilogy and that she has gained a new ally amidst what the nature of this season when most everyone was against them. Going into this season, Cara & Marie would've been a likely choice to probably go home early simply because of what got them paired up in the first place. The format of this season gave incentive for partners to suck it up and work together, something that's worked for some and didn't for others. And once they knew that they had to do it if they want $1 million, they put aside their beef: a memorable nomination moment and an elimination win later, they're into this final.
● JOSS & SYLVIA: For the team who has had a good season here, it's what we've seen from them of late that has given Joss & Sylvia a good chance to win this. Two times they've gone into elimination on this season, and both times they have won, helping to give the KC girl a 5-1 mark to put her onto the path of becoming a Challenge staple going forward. It was them beating out Tony & Bananas in the always dangerous water-based elimination that also molded in a puzzle that gave them serious cred... and it was further enhanced by winning the last two regular challenges to claim their spot in the final. And if it weren't for her having to drop out after that battle with Melissa and him getting knocked out by Derrick last season, they would've made the Vendettas final too.
● NATALIE & PAULIE: Like #Soss, Natalie & Paulie also won two eliminations this season, but they had to overcome greater odds to be the first non-MTV show to make a Challenge final. Of course, they had to endure having to go into the Redemption House not once, but twice during the course of this long season... and losing in both Redemption Eliminations to Da'Vonne & Jozea. But they stayed patient through all of this, and when they went into the third Redemption battle they beat Brad & Kyle to gain their way back into the house. And like Joss & Syl, they also won two dailies after that elimination win, as as knock off the team who were favorites to win that last pre-final elimination, Bananas & Tony, for the final spot, proving momentum is your friend here.
Because the final is so wide open and anything can possibly happen, we don't have a clear choice of who we feel will win this season. But our hope here is that the final should be one that we will remember for a long time - both competitively in hopefully seeing every go through the struggle of what a Challenge should be like and what the big decision will be when it all ends... ask the team who just got nipped for the fourth & final spot in this final about those two reasons.
For those who favor experience, you'll likely go for Cara & Marie. If you love seeing a team garner the same kind of late-season momentum that we just saw the AYTO 7 cast garner en route to $1 million as well as being big underdogs, likely you'll pull for Natalie & Paulie. For consistency and being elimination masters, Joss & Sylvia will be your choice. And if you want a mix of crazy but also competitive heart, then it's Ashley & Hunter. Let's cross our fingers for a good final.

Meanwhile, this past week saw the launch of Season 2 of the American version of where Joss and Paulie were on before their Challenge takeover, Ex On The Beach, where Nelson, Nicole R., Angela, Jozea and the AYTO 6 love triangle of Nurys, Malcolm & Diandra will join Farrah Abraham, Romeo Miller and friends for the sequel to the ultimate relations___ show in Southern California. DCBLOG offered A Look Ahead to that season from earlier this fall which you can check out here, and the show itself will be - at least for now - the focus of the winter '18-19 MTV cycle starting as soon as this Challenge season ends, along with the fall half of Season 2 of Floribama Shore.
