BY DC CUEVA
We are now officially into the month of October, and we are now well underway with the new year in television -- that is, as far as those who are in the business of operating the networks see it. The cheapo, low-budget reality series that entertained us this summer have given way to the big major scripted shows with their new seasons, but there is still plenty for us to be engaged with on the reality side of things.
Fairly soon - or right about now, those shows that debuted and premiered during the summer will give way to new seasons and series on the unscripted front. And while we here at DCBLOG always keep our feet in the present covering the weekly Pulse and the stories behind the story of the shows that are on now including The Challenge, we're also keeping our eye on what's ahead. That's the subject of this latest installment of The Look Ahead - discussing spoiler-free (or at best, just small minor spoiler) rumors surrounding upcoming MTV series on occasion around our week-to-week content.
In a moment, we'll be taking a first peek at the next season of Ex On The Beach, someone new coming to Floribama Shore, and the return of the girls who competed for the hearts of the Jersey Shore bromance. So yet again, join us for a serving of some tea around the autumn hotstove.
EX ON THE PEAK (EOTB USA s4)
One of the reasons for this site broadening our focus from covering a Trifecta of The Challenge and two shows that have fed alumni to, to encompassing practically the entire field is Ex On The Beach. Since it premiered as an international creation in 2014, it has become one of MTV's most visible franchises, but it was only last year that American viewers got to see it up close. We are headed towards the end of season 3 of the U.S. version of a format that sees singles and their exes collide on the beach... but soon enough, the Ex franchise will be at it again -- this time in totally new quarters.
For a channel that loves the sights of people in their summer swimwear, it's not that often that MTV gets to show people having fun in the wintertime snow. On a couple occasions, we got to hang out with the Alaskan fun bunch of Slednecks and then just last year we enjoyed some time with the crew of Winter Break: Hunter Mountain in the Catskill Mountains north of New York City. And it was last year that MTV took over management and control of one of the year's big annual festivals, the SnowGlobe Festival in South Lake Tahoe, CA.
It's with both the joys of winter and the dreaded sights of exes coming on shore that MTV has conceived a winter version of Ex On The Beach to air, of course, during this coming winter season. Of course, since most beaches not located in Florida or California would not be open from November to February, they had to tweak the title of the show... thus, it's Ex On The Peak.

The three seasons of EOTB USA brought us the relationship of Cheyenne & Cory and his current AYTO girlfriend Taylor, while season 2 gave us Farrah -- and both seasons saw Angela become a bigger star on that show than her original Bad Girls Club season... if what we saw from her being on Dr. Phil with Nelson is an indication of how she's become a fan favorite. And soon, season 3 will wrap up where Aubrey made her return to MTV, where Cameron's ways with girls have been documented, and so much more as it concludes soon.
Of course, those are just a handful of familiar faces from the MTV Reality community who've brought their talents to Ex On The Beach as well as those from around the reality world who've joined Team MTV to be on this series... and that's just with the American version. A handful of those that those of you in the UK got to enjoy in the British version's nine series have joined The Challenge and introduced this show to your American neighbours and have also produced some other notables that, we hope, will have their closeup in later seasons.
Now, the most important question: who will we see on Ex On The Peak? Well, once again the cast who will be coming to where Adam and CT got into it on The Duel 2 many years back will be featuring something for everyone - both to those in America and those across the pond in Britain. A few of those who we Americans got to know on the Trifecta (that is, The Challenge, Real World and Are You The One - our code name for the three legacy shows of our MTV coverage) will be on the cast... so are those from other reality series both in the U.S. and overseas.
Below, the rumored cast list, albeit a partial one in only mention those of particular interest.

For an idea of what we might expect there, the one that jumps out to a lot of us in that list above is one that has ties to what we've just had over a week ago. The girl who had to eat crow after one of the most dramatic Challenge elimination battles ever will have to deal once again with her ex who she met the only other time she was in Asia for a season. And one-third of the "Forever Petty" crew will be represented on this cast, as well as a teammate of one-half of a Challenge power couple from when he and Jordan made it to the Rivals II final as rookies last he was on the other side of the world, the girl who slapped Alicia on the AYTO Season 5 reunion, and an ex from the first of those twisted Real World seasons whose blueprint helped to inspire the Ex On The Beach concept.
For the newbies, the one that sticks out to reality fans is Daniel from the same Bachelorette season that gave us Chase and Chad of the first two EOTB seasons - and he also appeared on Bachelor in Paradise 3 where he witnessed Hurricane Chad's one-day cyclone on the villa. There will also be representation from one of 2019's breakout hits in the return of Temptation Island and a threesome from that season having to encounter their past again in colder weather. For the LGBT crowd who have enjoyed Jozea and Billy this year, they'll be brought to this show by Adore/Daniel of both RuPaul's Drag Race and American Idol. And for the Brits, they will be looking forward to watching Georgia make her US debut on this season, plus catch her again on the next series of Ex On The Beach UK... we think that she will make plenty of headlines here. We'll see...
A NEW GIRL IN FLORIBAMA SHORE?
The second coming of Jersey Shore this summer has seen the first wedding to be documented on its series with Mike the Situation and Lauren Sorrentino celebrating their big day, along with him encountering his legal troubles, J-Woww's divorce, Vinny's new strip showcase and Deena's new baby. The very reason for the reboot existing at all is because of the state of Florida, and the latest addition to the global MTV Shore family, Floribama Shore... and Season 3 is just ahead of us.
Back on Season 3 of Jersey in 2011, the set of housemates who were bonafide pop stars back then were down a person after Angelina left for, what turned out to be, a eight-year absence before an act of Pauly D. and his epic pranks changed the course of history when she came down to Miami and surprised Mike at the door. Someone had to fill her shoes, and in the Snooki was the one who made the suggestion that her friend Deena come to Seaside, and she graced us with her bubbly personality.
Deena's arrival marks one of just three changes in the Jersey Shore cast makeup - the other two being Sammi not signing on for the Family Vacation return and Angelina being made a permanent part of this show again with this summer, and who would've thought that was possible last year. But if you're a fan of Geordie Shore overseas, cast turnover has been frequent with over 40 castmates over that show's run over 19 series... and all three who have come from the UK's representative of the Shore franchise to The Challenge are still in the running on War of the Worlds 2.
For season 3 of Floribama, if you got to see the cast's Instagram and SnapChat stories of them in New York City last week, there were only seven of the original eight housemates who made the trek up there. As we mentioned a while back, Kortni had suffered a leg injury and couldn't join Nilsa, Gus, Aimee, Jeremiah, Candace, Kirk and Codi on the VMA's red carpet and then in the Big Apple for all the related promo and press related to this upcoming fall's return trip to Florida. And as those who've read about it know, Tampa Bay will host season 3 after Panama City Beach hosted the first two.
Now, the cast had to make sure in covering their Floribama-related activities that they had to keep a big secret to everyone who doesn't know about it to just a small tiny bit or without making mention of it at all. But when they got to party up in the clubs at night -- including Aimee's birthday which she actually came a little bit late for her own party -- and check out NYC during the day, someone got to join along for the ride as sort of a special guest of theirs.
The last time we saw Gus was him on The Challenge: War of the Worlds when he was the most notable rookie competitor to the MTV crowd. That was back at the end of March when he & Jenna lost in elimination to Bear & Da'Vonne and where he suffered a messed-up lip that he still has on his mouth. For someone being on the show for the first time, the experience was made a lot easier for him in having childhood friend Hunter in the house, and Gus got to also form a bond with fellow Southerner Mattie Lynn Breaux of Party Down South fame.
Mattie had such a great time with Gus, Hunter and those she formed good friendships with in South Africa - along with making it all the way to the final, that the feeling must've gotten to her that she had missed being around those cameras after being away after PDS wrapped its run on CMT years ago. And it was with a cryptic post she posted on Twitter that had her fans wondering if she was going on War of the Worlds 2 or somewhere else...
TWITTER @MattieLBreaux - 6/10/19
"Hey Tweeties soooo.... I am working on a new exciting project unfortunately I won't be on any social media so I'll be in the dark for a while! Don't miss me to much... I'll be back soon! Can't wait until you guys get to see what I'm working on! Be you, stay true! xoxo"
As it turns out - and as those locals in the Cigar City who get the see the cast roam their town there during this past summer, Mattie flew down from Nashville (where she bartends there now) to Tampa to become the ninth cast member of Floribama Shore starting with season 3... the first time that a Shore house on our side of the pond has reached that level of occupancy in the house.
If those who followed her on Party Down South can attest to, we can expect her alter ego Martha to make at least one appearance during this season, and perhaps those who lived it up with her on CMT's version of Jersey could join her to party. We'll have to see if these dreams get realized... and we'll leave you with this photo of her being spotted with Gus during Pride Week.
PAULY D. & VINNY'S VEGAS POOL PARTY
Last but not least, something that's come up in the past week: as that Jersey Shore Family Vacation rolls along with a possible Ron-page on our hands and Uncle Nino surprising Vinny this week, we can't forget about the revival of executive producer Sally-Ann Salsano's first MTV project, A Shot of Love, from over a decade ago. It returned in a more hilarious Jersey Shore-themed iteration in A Double Shot At Love with Pauly D and Vinny, and what happened with its conclusion with them going alone is still one of this year's most talked about MTV moments.
Some of the girls who got a chance to try to win over the Jersey bromance will return for a new spinoff series that just begun filming in Las Vegas just yesterday. The forums' tentative title for this project was Double Shot Girls Take Vegas, but the theme of the show and the eventual name of this series was altered today when the show's new title was revealed: DJ Pauly D and Vinny’s Vegas Pool Party. In any case, what we will be seeing next year will be very much different from when they lived in that house down in L.A. this spring.
The series synopsis calls for Pauly & Vinny to return to Las Vegas on a more permanent basis here as they will bring their friends along for everything that Sin City has to offer. The former has his successful DJ residency here for a long time, while Vinny is currently entertaining the ladies just across from the Strip with his Chippendales striptease hosting gig... and the description adds, "...the two will help teach their friends the definition of work hard, play hard in the infamous Sin City."
According to Vevmo, the girls who have been chosen to make their return engagement to MTV will see a hybrid of Jersey, Real World and Vanderpump Rules: like Double Shot, they will be living together - only it's in a suite on the Las Vegas Strip... and they will be working in a restaurant much like Scheana and the rest of her SUR crew in Beverly Hills. We'll see how this goes, but below is a partial cast list.
THE RUMORED CAST (Partial List)
All are from A Double Shot at Love
● BRITTANI “B-LASHES” SCHWARTZ
● DERYNN PAIGE
● MARIA ELIZONDO (AYTO 7)
● MARISSA LUCCHESE
● NIKKI HALL
● SUZI BAIDYA
And the list above doesn't even include the men being casted here, which includes cousins of two alumni of The Challenge and Real World. Below, video from last night of Pauly and Vinny partying it up as they begin production there... and, guess who goes to Vegas in 24 days from now.
