It is November, which means for networks, channels and streaming platforms, this is one of those months where they are in full-arms mode trying to win your attention in what is known in their part of the business as "sweeps" rating period months... and yesterday saw a game-changer in the media landscape with the launch of the much-anticipated service, Disney+. And we are headed towards the end of an eventful 2019 in the MTV community... and if you haven't noticed by so much news involving its personalities with pregnancies, Dr. Phil appearances, a World Series flashdance and a proposal, then they are making plenty of headlines as we speed towards 2020.
As for what we have rolling right now, The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2 rolls on as Teams USA and UK continue to fight it out in the second installment of an international trilogy, but things are heating up as we get closer to handing out $1 million, and the battle rages on tonight. Meanwhile, next month we'll be heading from the beach to going 'boarding as Ex On The Beach will head to the slopes for Peak of Love with an all-star global cast heading to the snow-capped mountains of New Zealand as their winter break will get a bit more steamy. And there will be plenty of other things of interest, too, as MTV parent Viacom prepares to get married again with CBS.
It was at this time in fall 2017 that the flames were rekindled - in America at least - of MTV's most iconic reality franchise when the Florida Panhandle in the southern United States joined places like Seaside Heights, the Northeast of England and Acapulco as places which have played host to drama, debauchery and a whole lot of fun with kids who love to have a good old time. In the spirit of the Jersey originals but forging their unique identity, Floribama Shore premiered two years ago this month and made an instant impact with a generation who grew up watching Snooki, the Sitch and co. but have brought a unique Southern charm to the madness that defines this franchise.
The first two seasons of Floribama have seen so much go down with Aimee Hall, Candace Rice, Codi Butts, Gus Smyrnios, Jeremiah Buoni, Kirk Medas, Kortni Gilson and Nilsa Prowant in the one-time Spring Break hub of Panama City Beach. The crew moved into their digs and gave us new definitions in having fun, getting into the frequent bar fight among much drama, producing the always intriguing inter-cast romance among two of the roommates, and each of them getting to showing an emotional side of themselves that helped them win over viewers. And last season saw double the fun with a lurking ex-boyfriend, headline-making arrests, another pizza moment, and ventures to the party hub of the South in New Orleans and South of the border to Cabo, Mexico.
Now, the scene shifts from where the spent their first two summers in and got kicked out of bars many times there in PCB, to a new locale located a few hours down the Florida Turnpike. The Tampa Bay Area will be where the drama and hilarity will be this time around, and lying two bridges away from the Cigar City to its west across the Bay is St. Petersburg, which will serve as the cast's home base this time around. And there, they will have a bigger playground of one of Florida's four major metropolitan areas to step up their party game while also navigating love and friendships as only a Shore crew can.
And to make things even more sweeter: something that hasn't happened yet on either American iteration of the Shore ecosystem will happen this winter: the Floribama house will have an additional, ninth roomie living under its roof. And as it was when Snooki brought along Deena when Angelina left Jersey Shore a decade ago, the person who will join the cast is someone who she's close with - all thanks to having competed with the man who brought his talents to The Challenge right as his second summer in PCB was coming to an end.
After the jump, DCBLOG takes a look back at the biggest moments of Season 2 of Floribama Shore, and a look ahead at season 3 premiering this coming Thursday as War of the Worlds finalist and Party Down South alumnus Mattie Lynn Breaux joins in on the fun, Floribama style.
LAST SEASON IN PCB...
Season 2 of Floribama Shore began in the summer of 2018 with the originals returning to the same house by the beach in Panama City Beach where they had so much fun that first time around. What ensued after they moved in last year saw them double down in both fun and drama as the Southerners got to enjoy another carefree summer in the Panhandle and outside of it too.
There was a lurking ex-boyfriend who was everywhere in town, lots of throwing up & kissing after, more flirtations for #Gilsa, a boyfriend with the name of an animal, a new definition in saying sorry in food, someone in TV Land's viewership kissing the crazy one, a date with two of the roomies, a girl group taking center stage, trips to New Orleans and Cabo, and of course, some bar fights and appearances by the cops. Not to mention, there was also a bikini contest, pranks and fights over little things, a pregnancy scare, the return of the Princess Goddess Mermaid, Gus opening up about his past, violations of girl code and the return of Clark Kent's brother.
Below, a handful of the most memorable moments of Season 2... and they don't need much explanation - not because it's been half a year since they left PCB, but because they are so jaw-dropping and exciting it's best to just have the visuals speak instead of words to accompany them.

SEASON 3: FIRST LOOK
When they had their final moment on the sand at the end of their last summer, Gus had doubts over whether or not he'd be willing to give it a go for a third trip, considering how stingy relations with his family are. But as he heads back to the beach, Gus comes to the Floribama pad this time with a young girlfriend back home - and how he handles juggling that with living again with Nilsa will be an item to watch... and it may not be the only relationship involving our resident book model that might encounter rough waters in the new house by the bay.
Just as it was to begin the first two summers for the crew, the ladies have relationships of their own back home that, with them heading to the Bay Area will see them handle long-distance. Aimee came to her first summer off the hook from a ten-year on-and-off boyfriend and comes to SPB with a man back home, plus some unresolved baggage by way of the fight & arrest that made her front-page news up in Perdido, Alabama. And after the wild & crazy ride that was her & Logan, Kortni has settled down to a new boyfriend who will be deployed while she is away on her vacation.
If what we've seen in the past is an indication - and if the teases the cast have given us of this being the biggest one yet since the countdown to this season began a few weeks ago, then Season 3 of Floribama should be just as explosive and as hilarious as the first two.
And then, there's the newbie: the last time we saw Gus, it was when he & Jenna were eliminated on War of the Worlds back in March. That brought his 9-month run on MTV to an end - for which his Challenge invasion began the same week as the Floribama season 2 finale. But luckily, Gus had someone who he's known his whole life to help him along this new journey in fellow Perry, FL native Hunter Barfield, who was heartbroken by Ashley's $1 million steal on Final Reckoning but managed to make it back to the final the following season, and as of this week is a new dad. And Gus & Hunter also forged a bond with someone who shared their common Southern roots and who proceeded them in the lineage of both those who've appeared on an MTV or related channel and when it comes to fun.
Mattie Lynn Breaux impressed us as a rookie who went all the way to the War of the Worlds final, and she forged good friendships with everyone else there in Namibia. For a lot of us, this winter & spring was our first time getting to enjoy her company, but for others that Challenge was a return engagement after being part of CMT's Party Down South, which shares many attributes with the Shore world from the night it's airing to it being produced by the same 495 Productions company. As we wrote in our "Who Are These Newbies?" capsule on her before WOTW, she was that bubbly girl from Louisiana who was a beauty queen, tells it like it is, and who's always ready to party. And if history on PDS has its way, drunk alter ego Martha should pop up at least once and give us something to remember on her sixth televised summer vacation.
Mattie's arrival to Floribama will echo what happened on Season 3 of Jersey Shore, when Angelina's departure left a bed in the Seaside Shore house unoccupied and saw Snooki bring Deena to the boardwalk... this time we don't expect any fireworks to come with that unlike what happened with Sammi and J-woww. But we should be in for quite a escape from the winter's cold for thoughts of summer fun & sun the next few months. And if the first night in SPB is an indication below, then you'll want to keep making a habit for some Thursdays by the Shore after the season you've enjoyed with the Sitch & co. Bring it on...
