DC ExtraTime: Two Rings, A New Mom (Again) and Two New Dads...

Along with covering every episode of the shows we cover here and those occasions when this world of television's most-talked about reality programming crosses at the intersection of pop culture, it's always been a priority for us at DCBLOG to acknowledge just about milestone the people who've starred on these shows mark off camera. And in the past couple of weeks came several more of those: three MTV alumni from different sections of the generational gap getting to embark on that one sign that we are officially old, and three past Challengers saying their "I do's."

Say what you might about them, but there is probably little doubt that the current power couple in The Challenge community is Zach Nichols & Jenna Compono... it was six years ago at this time that we saw them first click on Battle of the Exes 2 just off of relationships with fellow Real World alumni which brought them to Costa Rica. And though there have been some bumps along the way they are now, as we love to say around here, each other's perfect match.
This has been quite a past sixteen months for #Zenna since they went to Rockefeller Center on the pre-Christmas Saturday in 2019 and stole some buzz from Eddie Murphy's return to SNL when he proposed to her at the base of the Rockefeller Plaza Christmas tree and got engaged just after she got home from competing on Total Madness. But while we've been watching Double Agents, it's most especially been an amazing winter for the couple when they announced their impending entry into parenthood when, on Valentine's Day they posted a picture of a sign with the words "Baby Nichols, Coming 2021." Then came a small, private gender reveal just a couple weeks later, where they popped a big balloon to find the color blue, emblematic of a baby boy.

And as they look forward to taking on life's greatest challenge for anyone our age, they are now halfway there to the status of a true reality television power couple - one that is officially certified with rings on their fingers. Over a week ago on March 13, Jenna & Zach got to welcome their immediate families in his home state of Michigan for a private wedding service where they got to say their "I do's," followed by a scaled back Saturday night dinner reception.
The plans for #Zenna's big day was to get married and then have their first baby, but because of a certain five-letter acronym they had to reverse the order in getting to become parents before they get hitched and pushing their planned wedding day for a year after. As Jenna told People Magazine, "It was really special to have both my family and Zach's family there. Realistically, we don't know how the world is going to be next year, so our wedding isn't even promised. We didn't want to put out life on hold any longer for something that isn't promised."
As has often been the case in the past year or so in this world, this small get-together is just the formal ceremony to make them official, saving the more elaborate one for spring of next year in her home of New York City... and this official wedding day was so big an occasion for Jenna's family that her dad had to take a plane for the first time since before the unfortunate events of two decades ago this fall. And the bride added, "Although we wished we could have our big wedding this year, it definitely was more memorable and intimate celebrating with our close family first, and everyone else later on," with a serendipity of this postponement will be that Baby Nichols will be almost one year old by the time he sees his parents walk the aisle for a renewal of their vows.

When their MTV takeover began three years ago this spring, the one show synonymous with summer more than any other in reality TV has made an immense impact, even to helping plant the seeds for the eventual reunion of MTV and CBS' corporate parents. Big Brother has no doubt made its mark outside of the famed summer house in what we have seen with Josh, Da'Vonne and Paulie, among others in not only being on The Challenge but also in the case of the ladder starting his MTV journey on Ex On The Beach to be followed in by other fellow past houseguests.
Someone who got lost in all of the buzz surrounding Big Brother's invasion of the channel prior to the Viacom/CBS merger was Victor Arroyo, who was Natalie Negrotti's partner on Vendettas but who otherwise didn't contribute much in Spain. That was because he had a girl back home who he met on Paulie's Big Brother 18 season, and the one who would eventually take home the $500,000 at the end of summer 2016, Nicole Franzel. It was two years later on the stage of the twentieth season (the one that gave us Fessy, Kaycee and Swayleigh) that he proposed to her after they hosted one of the challenges that summer of 2018, and it was just recently that they announced their expectancy for their first kid.
And it also this past week that Nicole and Victor got married, the latest in the long line of romances that have gone from a summer showmance into true love outside of the Big Brother house. Josh was among those from the Big Brother family who was invited to be in the company of what was called on social media an "#ArroyoWedding," along with Season 19 podium finisher Christmas Abbott and fellow All-Stars houseguest Memphis Garrett. The new husband wrote below on Instagram, "What they say is true, your wedding day passes by in a flash. It was an exciting and emotional day, and I loved every moment. So blessed to be married to my best friend and soulmate 🙏🏽😍," while the BB18 champ added, "🤍 my real life ride or die. I had an amazing team behind this dreamy day & I can’t wait to share it with you all ☺️."

With the All-Stars season to debut a week from now, one most interested viewer in what the originals will have to offer - including a close friend of hers who's not competed since before she made her MTV debut - is Tori Hall, who debuted on Road Rules: Viewer's Revenge in 2007 and went onto several Challenge seasons afterwards including winning Cutthroat in 2010. She has become a mom to three kids in the decade since, and it was just recently that she got married once again as she changed her surname once again to "Gwinn" upon them making it official last autumn.
And as she awaits seeing Kendal Sheppard make her return to television for the second time in a 15-month's span (the other being having her home inspected for possible ghosts in the Seattle area), last week Tori announced that she is expecting her fourth kid to come later this year. She captioned below, "Our home team is growing and we are over the moon...Little one you are already loved, prayed for, and we are so excited to meet you early fall. ❤️ #babygwinn #partyof6 #1samual127"

And then, the amount of parents in our MTV family will have grown by two more people: this time, it's dads from the love experiment as over the weekend, one member of the Are You The One? family welcomed his first kid, while another announced his entry into parenthood.
The last time we made our way to the Boom Boom Room, AYTO Season 8 provided the sexually-fluid, LGBTQ+ crowd a chance to find love. And while we got to see how it all began for agent Amber M., much of the buzz in that same house that hosted Season 7 a year earlier belonged to Remy Duran, who was in a romance in paradise with Texas girl Paige. He has become a much bigger icon in the social sphere after leaving the Truth Booth in becoming not only an LGBT icon, but also creating some rather NSFW content for the online crowd.
Remy is now boyfriend to social influencer Zoey Luna, and it was over the weekend that the couple announced the arrival later this summer of their first kid. His Instagram announcement captioned, "Just a minor life announcement! We're expecting!!! Aramis 'Ari' Duran is set to drop July 2021 of this year so mark ya calendars cuz @zoeyyluna is having the next heir to the throne of The King Of NYC 😌👶🎉🎊🤰🍼🍾." However, this has also been a bittersweet past 100+ hours for the new father to be: it was just days later that his mom died suddenly... and in his Instagram eulogy her son wrote, "She was an amazing, kind, loving, caring but simple woman."

And to most of us, AYTO Season 7 introduced us to Double Shot at Love's Maria Elizondo, but much of the buzz in the Hawaiian house belonged to that of Dallas' Zak Jones. He was part of a big romance with Bay Area girl Bria Hamilton, but he also found himself in love with Season 1 original Shanley McIntee while the show was airing that fall of 2018, though that affair didn't last that long.
Last weekend, he and his girlfriend got to welcome their first kid, who we will not post the pic of the new one with respect to them and also to Remy. But the new mom wrote on IG, "You are pure magic baby girl✨💕 Zak and I welcomed our baby girl into the world this morning at 10:18am! Harper Ellis Jones, 6lbs 3oz, 18 3/4 inches long, 10 pushes. One tiny angel!" Our congrats go out to all of them, and our condolences also go to Remy during this emotional time.
