In a few days, we'll be saying hello to the month of May... and that means we're knocking on the door of a summertime that just feels normal again, and that includes getting a certain reality dating show that gives some roses to worthy suitors which my parents love watching. But if don't wanna wait for Gabby. Rachel and their Bachelorette journey, then you have the "Ultimate Relations*** Show" to enjoy until then as MTV's Ex On The Beach rolls along in its return engagement.

Last we were in Gran Canaria, the summertime desert climate in this Canary Island forced the guys to take off their shirt just like Derynn's ex Ricky does in his happy place of the Chippendales stage at the Vegas Rio. But also under the stars, the house was welcomed back to the Table of Truth that saw more sketchy info being exposed about Da'Vonne's ex Jamar, as well as Love Island player Ray which also saw his ex Caro be the first one of this summer to bolt out of the villa. And as she went home, in came David's ex Dani, who not only has him to deal with but also with affecting his relationship with Mike - and in turn, with Arisce.

A year ago this month, MTV's only other offering of reality love in 2021 (outside of Season 3 of Double Shot) came when it & Pepsi invited reality TV's best for Match Me If You Can. That YouTube series offers the context to Week 4 in the house when one of those who fell in love there heads to the main MTV channel as part of the latest super-twist to turn the villa on its head. Meanwhile, sparks are brewing for one couple in this house as they decide to their relationship to another level and causing things to get out of hand. But that pales in comparison to what the latest message in a bottle will duke out: another couple could go the way of the dinosaur by way of a trip into a Shack of Secrets turned movie theater.

After the break, DCBLOG brings you some new singles, next level moves and a horror movie on the 'Pulse of Week 4 of Ex On The Beach 5... and we'll also let you in on two alumni of MTV's other reality love offering becoming a new mom and dad. Dive in...

Very soon on here, we'll be going into overdrive when the spring that is already underway in the story of 2022 in MTV Reality turns up another notch with the first offering of the show that we cover on here the most. And the updated order of operations on here will see us lead off with the juicy entrée of the sultry drama in Siesta Key, then serve up the main course of 2022's first installment of The Challenge in the third season of All-Stars, and round it all off with the dessert of love in many forms on Ex On The Beach. But before we get to think about having three shows to cover on here -- and we're prepared for that, we have a rather fine appetizer for those of you hungry for some action before the action.

The vision DCBLOG has in mind is to not only cover the episodes every week, but also shine a light on the stories of television's most unique reality programming and sometimes of those inspired by it. The ExtraTime series has afforded us hundreds of opportunities to explore this slice of life over the past ten years, but it's hard to think that the subject we have covered on here the most in this franchise doesn't even have to do with someone who has starred on these MTV shows (even though he has been to a couple reunions for these shows)... but rather one who is a fan of these shows like this blogger is, but also has become a star in himself on YouTube.

Five years ago, this website was first drawn to a fan of The Challenge from Secaucus, New Jersey who got to meet the cast of the show's first $1 million season when he and some of his high school friends joined the Season 30 cast for workout sessions during premiere week of XXX: Dirty 30. But it wasn't because of Andres Rodriguez meeting one of those All-Stars who will take to South America in a few weeks in his favorite challenger Kailah Casillas and the rest of that cast that we first featured him on here, but rather for that he was the creator of several homemade reality shows for YouTube -- otherwise known as "live reality games." And we have followed Dre's entire journey ever since, covering both the action that takes place in his own backyard and the drama that goes down from places across America.

And this winter, the latest chapter for what is known to its creator and his 1,000 YouTube followers as Dre.Media went down in that familiar place: his house... and that means one thing: Caucus Challenge.

Hello once again, everybody... if you're an MTV Reality TV fan, then this spring 2022 is surely gonna be something else, as we got to elaborate on in our season preview post just a few weeks back. But before we go there, we have what to us will feel like the dessert of sorts when it comes to this cycle in Ex On The Beach, as Season 5 and its return from the pandemic break rolls along in the Canary Islands.

Last we were there, the Beach of Doom reopened -- it's where those in the house are sent to meet the incoming occupants, and one ex who we saw on A Double Shot at Love Takes Vegas in Derynn's Chippendales ex Ricky washed up ashore. Another place that saw dust build up was the Shack of Secrets, and Da'Vonne not only found herself in a toy store but also met Jamar's Canadian Big Brother housemate Minh-Ly as well as plenty of tea on the Torontoan. And no MTV Reality dating show would be complete without a game of truth of dare and a triple kiss: David, Arisce and Mike.

Well, can it get any more steamier than this? Well, you bet... the house will find themselves returning to the dinner table once again as the Table of Truth will reveal a bit more about the ex of our resident mom in this villa... and there may also be more in store as far as that player from that first summer in Love Island. And the guys get some advice on how to strut their stuff on that stage with Ricky if they decide to spend a night in Vegas with Vinny & friends this summer, the next incoming ex to town has their eyes on wanting to derail one of the two love triangles in the villa.

All the action, reaction and interaction awaits on the 'Pulse of Week 3 of Ex On The Beach 5... and welcome on in...

DC ExtraTime: Here's to Zach and Jenna (Once Again)...

For most of us, this tough time in our world and our lives have seen us take two -- even three -- straight years of having to put off so much for the sake of our health & safety... that includes this weekend's return of arguably the biggest live music event in America: Coachella in Southern California's Inland Empire, an hour's drive east of Los Angeles. But for so many, the global pandemic caused a massive ripple effect when it comes to planning out that ultimate of life-changers that simply say the ultimate Saturday (or any day of the week) where a couple goes down the aisle, say their "I do's," share a first kiss as a married couple and party the night away with family, friends and their fellow invited guests.

The return of American normalcy means that after two years' worth of delays but also lots of extra time for planning, the dream days of brides, grooms and their families alike are finally coming to fruition -- and at a historic pace. A whopping 2.6 million couples are expected to tie the knot this year, the most in almost forty years... all as a result of the lockdown preventing most weddings from taking place in 2020 and early 2021. Wedding vendor companies, which had a light work load the past few years, are picking up the pace in prepping for both the main event in those expensive dresses, and those lavish after-parties known as a wedding reception with a larger number of guestlists after all this time being apart.

Two years ago when a lot of us had to put up with all of this delaying the grandest day of anyone's lives, we featured five people who got to try on wedding outfits at the most renowned parlor of its type in the world: The Challenge's Nicole Zanatta, Big Brother 20 and Total Madness finalist Bayleigh Dayton & husband Swaggy Chris Williams, Real World Back to New Orleans alum Ashlee Feldman, and Mike the Situation of Jersey Shore & the Sorrentino clan all paid a visit to Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City, home to TLC's Say Yes to the Dress. Just a few weeks ago, Nicole herself got engaged to her girlfriend Lauren... and it came before she got invited to 2022's first big wedding day in the MTV community... well, make that the second wedding day for one of Challenge Nation's biggest couples.

In the words of the man who enjoys this time of year of early April in having called both the Final Four and The Masters in an ten-day stretch in CBS Sports' Jim Nantz, we say "Hello Friends" to springtime in the world of its fellow Paramount sibling MTV and its reality shows. And as normal life has been restored in this land of ours, so has the channel's take on love and romance... and as of the end of the month of March, the sand, the surf, the sun and the drama is back on Ex On The Beach.

Over a week ago, EOTB returned after two years away as a new group of familiar faces both MTV fans and others from this wide world of reality flew in from the States to the Canary Islands off the African coast for this early summer retreat. Despite being away from us this long, it seems the drama has picked up right where it left off from the New Zealand peaks, as a couple who we saw on The Amazing Race this winter was heard from a bit when Love Island exes Caro & Ray had it out. It was only part of an eventful night #1 that saw Mama Da'Vonne return to our lives as did Mike of the Lohan Beach Club, and saw Paradise Hotel guest David come out as pansexual to the delight of Mr. MGTV.

The last time we covered an MTV Reality season with love as the overriding theme was Season 2 of A Double Shot at Love, aka Las Vegas Shore back two years ago. And as we return to the beach, that serves as a basis for our first trip since Season 3 in 2019 to the Beach of Doom: that place on the sand where the past will come up on shore just like Jaws as a girl who fell in love with a stripper finds herself waiting to see if her ex is next. After what we saw in that opening act, a man who finally let out the truth about who he really is might find himself in the middle of not one, but two of everyone's favorite scenarios when it comes to a reality dating show. And when it comes to our own Ex show here, secrets aren't so safe... especially when some tea is flowing in a small little shack away from the house.

We'll have all the action, reaction and interaction of week 2 of EOTB 5 coming your way here ahead... but first after the break, we'll venture to the Big Apple as another couple who Mama Day competed with on her first Challenge take part in Take Two of the biggest day of their lives. Welcome on in...

What's going on, everyone... we're now in the month of April, which means spring is in the air, the Easter bunny is on the loose, and we've set into motion year #10 of DCBLOG's journey Inside MTV Reality. And if what the next few months have to offer is good in drama in the Key and All-Star Challengers returning again as do some Real World'ers to the Big Easy, then the juiciest of this spring's offerings is the one where you can never really turn your back on the past. That means only one thing: Ex On The Beach is back.

We were last at the Beach exactly two years ago... well make that, the "Peak" as in Peak of Love, which saw the global MTV love franchise embrace the snow for the first time, and saw a couple from The Challenge take residency in the chalet -- and just yesterday those two got together once again, and we'll let you in on that after we take care of this week's set of episode posts. It was the fourth & most recent season of Ex U.S., which due to the pandemic saw the sand stand in silence to the roars of the sea -- and we sure have missed these sights of long chairs, beach umbrellas and fireworks around here.

But now that order's been restored in our world as far as all of us getting back to our routines, the Beach has now officially reopened for business after the two-year summer vacation... and all the pent up drama and feelings built up during this time is about to be unloaded. And this year's class of celebrity singles -- including two familiar MTV alumni, a Love Islander well rested from an Amazing Race and the one at the heart of a scandal -- are en route to the Canary Islands for a Spring Break/early summer vacay they won't soon forget. That is, until the exes come by -- and they will, just as our first group of singles get settled into their new digs after they examine their past & explore what the future might hold for them.

After the break - and in serving the interest of fans just yourselves, DCBLOG brings you all the action, reaction and interaction of the premiere of Season 5 of Ex On The Beach, American style -- all as it unfolded on Twitter before & during this past Thursday's premiere... specially curated for all of you to enjoy in its uncensored and raw nature, and includes adult language. Thanks for joining us here on this Sunday... and welcome back to paradise.

Who Are These Newbies? - Ex On The Beach Season 5: The Singles

Due to the heavy presence of graphics and video, "Who Are These Newbies?" is best experienced on desktops and fast-performing mobile devices. Some videos embedded contain adult language & situations, parental guidance is suggested.

Tonight, reality dating television's most uniquely different series makes its return to our screens when the U.S. version of MTV's Ex On The Beach premieres its fifth season -- the first time that we've been to the infamous beach in exactly two years. The show first debuted back in 2018 and has seen familiar faces to fans to both MTV and the reality world at large get a dose of karma of having their exes invade their season of love. And after a quiet twenty-four months, the beach is alive once again with the drama we come to love from the MTV brand, combined with plenty of romance and lots of fireworks to come our way from the Canary Islands across the Atlantic.

With this blogger now settled back in his writing chair after taking a break to edit YouTube Vegas vlogs and to watch the Winter Olympics, something DCBLOG has in common with the networks that aired the Games is a tradition of ours of getting to know the people who may not be well-known to most viewers, but who are worthy of getting the proper recognition and respect they deserve before they become big. "Who Are These Newbies?" gives us the chance to introduce those who are joining the MTV Reality family for the first time -- whether it's a new Challenge season or in this case, Ex U.S.  And it has been a staple of every season of our coverage of both shows and more since this site began in 2013, giving background, insight and visuals to nearly two-hundred personalities, with many more to be added to that list over the course of the coming months with new shows waiting in the wings.

While our take on MTV's global entry into the red-hot romantic reality genre has seen a veteran of at least one show on the channel be present in every season (The Challenge, Real World, Are You The One, even Teen Mom), a show like this is one that brings different fandoms from across the reality landscape together, just as it has been in recent seasons of the fifth major pro sport -- for which UK alums from this show coming onto Vendettas helped set the table for our version.  From when it began, Ex U.S. has had alums from Big Brother, Bachelor Nation and other reality franchises converge on a villa for a moment they would rather forget: getting to see their ex invade their vacation to paradise. While it is not fun for those who are in the house, it has made for some compelling television... only part of the MTV franchise which has been customized for dozens of countries -- its most widely seen format.

This year's cast has three familiar faces to the MTV audience: Da'Vonne Rogers made a memorable mark on two Challenges after her first two visits to the Big Brother house, while Mike Mulderrig returns to the channel after being one of the many VIP's to Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club back in 2019... and Derynn Paige is getting a third chance at romance after being on the first two seasons of Jersey Shore's entry to the field, A Double Shot at Love. And if you count other MTV-produced offerings, last spring Kyra Green from Love Island was cast into a special Pepsi-sponsored series for its YouTube channel, Match Me If You Can, also featuring an all-star reality cast similar to this show.

Those four faces aside, the saying that "there's something for everyone" is again ringing true for EOTB USA, as we get to put some leis around the necks of a stellar group of reality alumni who are about to come to grips with a rather rude awakening once they head onto the beach -- from three guys who have been in the ringer of a romantic reality show before (and in one's case, having been well rested from being on another reality show on his original CBS network), to trendsetters in both the world of fashion and dancing. Plus in taking a cue from the first EOTB cast of four years ago, there's also people who have no reality experience being cast for Season 5 -- and one of them has the most intriguing backstory of anyone coming into the villa.

After the break, we begin our deep dive at the newbies of Season 5 of Ex On The Beach, as the "Beach of Doom" finally reopens as we profile the ones who come here single and ready to mingle -- and a couple of their exes.

Inside MTV Reality: Welcome Back to Ex On The Beach, Season Cinco

BY DC CUEVA
 @DC408DXTR  @ IG/YT/SC/TB/TK

Right now, spring 2022 is officially in the air as we've transitioned from the snow to that annual season of renewal that, this year not only heralds in nicer weather to come but also a year that promises to be just about normal. And that includes the most-talked about shows in the world of reality television, which this year marks thirty years since it all began when a then music video channel set sail on this journey of pioneering an entire genre. And it's only fitting that this thirtieth anniversary year of MTV Reality TV promises to be one to remember, a result of the global pandemic wrecking havoc on the production calendar of the past couple years for what is now Paramount Global and its platforms.

We've just begun a new year in Siesta Key, as Juliette Porter tries to pick up the pieces of another failed romance, while Cheyenne Floyd spent a winter vacation in the Caribbean with her Teen Mom sorority just as the dad of her first kid is ready to welcome number #2. Ahead of us, the year in The Challenge will begin with Season 3 of All-Stars on what's now become a must-have for MTV fans in Paramount+, which will also host the third edition of The Real World Homecoming as the cast of the original New Orleans season will reunite down in the Big Easy.  P+ will also be the venue for a third War of the Worlds Challenge later this year, as will another star-studded mega-project in All-Star Shore... and we will have all of these shows covered on here between now and then, as will two others.

Something that's been scarce in our MTV coverage here in this time has been the network's twisted take on love, which has become the buzz word of the reality community the past few years. But there's good news coming: earlier this month, Paramount+ announced the pending fall return of a show that we've followed ever since its 2014 debut, Are You The One?, as American and international singles will face the truth booth in a global-themed season 9. Last year, Vinny Guadagnino tried yet again to find his match on A Double Shot at Love... and one of those suitors who were looking for win the heart of the Jersey Shore bachelor the first time around is taking her talents to another of MTV's entry into reality love... and it too is back from a prolonged summer vacation.

Also eight years back, MTV introduced to the world -- albeit the non-U.S. international audience -- what might be the most twisted of all the romantic reality shows out there. Ex On The Beach became a huge hit in the United Kingdom and many other countries before it made its way to our American shores four years ago this spring... and it too has also made its mark on this side of the pond with some of reality TV's biggest stars having to go through hell on the sand watching their past come back into their lives. The last time we got to enjoy the pleasure of finding out "Whose Ex Is Next?" was just before the world turned upside down: Season 4 saw the global franchise's first winter-themed season which hosted its first ever proposal, plus some drama involving those who represent America's fifth pro sport.

Now some two years after we left New Zealand, we have made our way for the first time on our U.S. version of the show to the continent of the European Union: Gran Canaria. the Spanish colony of the Canary Islands, will be our hosts for the return of Ex On The Beach USA. And just as it was when it first made waves on this side of the Atlantic, a few familiar faces to us from having covered the MTV beat here for ten years will be part of the fun... and they'll be joined by those from all around the wide world of reality TV. And after the break, we take our first look at all the drama to come from the beach.
