Last week, the girls were buried alive when the guys are asked questions about them that not only determined who knows their partners better but also who was speedy in helping the girls out when they need them the most. But it's what happened when Dario & Nicole became power team that caused rain to fall on the house when they catch Cory & Ashley dealing both ways, and caused her cousin Nany to lose it as well, all before an elimination that could have a ripple effect on the game.
And that's where this week's episode begins as the game gets turned on its head once again by a yet another shocking result in that jungle. The attention then turns to a challenge where teamwork is put to the test right above the sea. It's what happens with who wins that and the ensuing Jungle that perhaps could set the tone for the rest of the game, and where one of the competitors lies either with the one she's become close with in the house, or the one she's close with as a cousin.
Ahead, all the action, reaction and interaction from the Challenge end of this week in the Trifecta. This includes many of the competitors heading up to New York for the traditional matters related to the end of this season. Afterwards on ExtraTime, as the Rio Olympics now stand less than three weeks away, we'll look back to those two times when two Challengers got a mingle with two Olympians who will have a chance to take gold yet again in Brazil.

There's a practical reason why I didn't do a standard DC WRAP post last week and why you saw the Rivals I long-form post here back on Wednesday...it's because of the cliffhanger that ended Episode 10 and began Episode 11, which also saw a double elimination. There, we had Cory & Ashley get beaten out by Nate & Christina in an all-time Challenge elimination shocker. We also saw the veterans take command of this game in Bananas & Sarah winning once again, while Wes & Nany took the elimination battle as Ginger responded to the 5-time champ putting him into the Jungle. And we also saw more clarity on the relationships Nicole has with Nany and with Nate as well. We'll have the past two episodes of Rivals III covered on an expanded edition of DC WRAP tomorrow.

GAMES '16: TEAM USA'S FAMOUS FRIENDS
Switching our attention now to the equally-strong passion I have of the Olympics: the past week has seen the last major pieces of Team USA being put together as we now stand less than three weeks away from the beginning of Rio 2016. A mix of experience and veterans will headline the American contingent in the major draws of track & field and swimming, including Michael Phelps, Allyson Felix, Katie Ledecky and Ashton Eaton. Many of last year's Women's World Cup-winning Women's Soccer Team - including Carli Lloyd, Hope Solo, Alex Morgan & Megan Rapinoe - will return for more glory in Rio, while newly-minted Warrior Kevin Durant will lead the 2016 men's basketball Dream Team.
Considering the depth America has in Olympic sports, making the U.S. Olympic team is considered by most to be harder than competing with the world's best and winning gold, and last weekend saw proof of this at the Women's Gymnastics Trials in a region that's seen many a champion being crowned the past six years: the Bay Area. In San Jose, the competition was as tense and as riveting to the legions of fans who follow this sport year-round, and drawing in the casuals who will sure tune in for this sport in the masses when it takes center stage in Rio on the Games' first weekend. Among those in the crowd included the greatest NBA player of his generation - Kobe Bryant.
As expected, the sport's most-dominant gymnast and 3-time defending all-around world champion, Simone Biles, finished first overall and gained the automatic berth in Rio - and barring any obstacles should have an easy path to joining Mary Lou, Carly, Nastia and Nadia as winners of one of the Olympics' biggest prizes. Simone also got a shoutout from the Texans' JJ Watt where he tweeted to her, "Your name will be far bigger than mine after these Olympics...you are awesome." She will be joined on the team by first-time Olympians Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian, while the men's team will be led by veterans Sam Mikulak and the subject of Gym Class Heroes' "The Fighter" video, John Orozco. They also will include two girls who also got to hang out with a Challenge champion.
On that same weekend that saw Great Britain win many a gold medal (including Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis and Andy Murray), Zach had a front row seat to seeing Usain Bolt take 100 meters gold and even seeing a man by the name of Paul McCartney in the crowd at the Olympic Stadium. And at the Video Music Awards in Los Angeles a month later, as you see on your right, he got to meet Gabby Douglas, who along with the rest of the Fierce Five of Aly Raisman, Jordyn Weiber, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross, won women's Olympic team gold in London and presented on the big show. Raisman has also qualified for the Rio Olympic team, and they are favorites to win a third women's team gold, just twenty years after the Magnificent Seven won that first one at home in Atlanta.
Also included in that veteran presence is the cool, calm and relaxed swimmer from Florida who's truly one of a kind. Two years ago while we covered Are You The One? Season 2, we showed you Season 1 original (and Exes 2 competitor) Adam Kuhn hanging out with Ryan Lochte when he was in D.C. Given the intense competitiveness of the Trials where two first-timers out-touched him at the wall, Lochte won't have the opportunity to defend his 400M individual medley gold in Rio, but barring any obstacles he and Michael Phelps are expected to have one last showdown in the 200M IM for which Phelps has won gold at the last three Olympics and Mr. Jeah has dominated in other meets. Last year Ryan won that event at the World Championships when Phelps was off the team for personal reasons, but the 18-time medalist posted the year's top time at last year's Nationals.
Finale night of this Rivals III Challenge is slated for Wednesday, August 3rd, which is also when action in Rio will begin with women's preliminary soccer matches including Team USA opening their Olympic gold defense against New Zealand. As soon as this Challenge ends, half of DCBLOG's focus will shift to the Rio Olympics, and of course we will have regular Games '16 posts during the fortnight. Our first post looking at the Olympic Movement will be posted in the next two weeks.
