DC WRAP: The Challenge Rivals III "Digging Your Own Grave"

BY DC CUEVA
@DC408Dxtr / @DC408DxNow

Welcome back to DCBLOG as we bring you the back end of our Rivals III doubleheader of posts covering Episode 10 from this week. We saw the female challengers being kidnapped by TJ for the next challenge that saw the girls reveal everything about this season, and the guys having to match their answers to that of the girls...all while they are buried alive. It was Dario & Nicole that won, but it's their choice of Cory & Ashley going in that has everyone buzzing as they now face a potential jungle against Nate & Christina, but also affecting the relationship of Nicole and her cousin Nany.
Now again as we told you in the 'Pulse, the episode ending with a a cliffhanger means that our recap of this episode will have to be deferred over to next week, but it won't mean we'll ignore covering this week entirely in what's usually our original writeup on the week that was. We do have, though, fantasy scoring, fan reaction and an ExtraTime looking back to the most notable moment for the person who has to sit through the gameplay plans of her partner. Stay tuned for that here.

He also answered a trivia question wrong eight times, which counts for 5 pts. each for each question - thus he receives 40 bonus points.
DARIO: Along with competition points below, Dario receives 10 points for becoming power team, 15 pts. for breaking an alliance with Devin & Cheyenne and Cory & Ashley (Nicole also receives those points too), 10 drama points for verbally fighting with Wes by the pool (Wes also gets 15 for that too), and 15 bonus points for three incorrect trivia questions.
COMPETITION - As this challenge has a mass-start of all the teams starting at the same time, all players earn 10 pts. each for being the first team to do a mission. Ashley and Cheyenne earn 20 pts. for pulling a white skull in the jungle, while Bananas & Sarah earn 5 pts. for coming in second.
DRAMA - Nany and Nicole earn 10 pts. each for their fight in the bedroom after the nominations, while Nany gets 20 pts. for her meltdown and 5 for crying.
BONUS - As mentioned above, five bonus points are awarded to those who incorrectly answer trivia questions. Bananas got two wrong (10 pts. each), Cory three wrong (15 pts.), Devin six wrong (30 pts.), and Wes and Vince five wrong (25 pts. each)

 #DCSocialPulse FANS' VIEW
Now, some select fan reaction from just yours truly...

@dc408dxnow: Last week, we had soccer and a hangover. Now what's coming? When we get down to a handful of teams it gets serious. #DCChallenge
@dc408dxnow: Nate talking to Christina as she's being frustrated by him turning his attention to Nicole. And Nany talking to Cory in the club.
@dc408dxnow: Last week, we saw Bananas take Cory & Ash to the day trip and Cory made deal w/ Wes & Nany. Nicole has something brewing here. #DCChallenge
@dc408dxnow: If you're Cory, the question you've got on your mind is who are you aligned to? You dealt w/ ginger & went w/ JB. He's stuck here #DCNOW
@dc408dxnow: If you're Cory, the question you've got on your mind is who are you aligned to? You dealt w/ ginger & went w/ JB. He's stuck here #DCNOW
@dc408dxnow: If you're Cory, the question you've got on your mind is who are you aligned to? You dealt w/ ginger & went w/ JB. He's stuck here #DCNOW
@dc408dxnow: The guys are at next challenge. The girls are buried alive underneath these headstones. Now it's about to get more tense here #DCChallenge
@dc408dxnow: We're going to have a trivia thing along w/ a comp coming later. All players get it right except Devin as they do this sorta newlywed game
@dc408dxnow: Everyone except Devin & Wes get #2 right. And now were learning more about what these girls have that the guys don't know about #DCChallenge
@dc408dxnow: Every one of these teams except for Devin are knowing who they are, including Nate & Christina are layups. Learning everything about them
@dc408dxnow: This game is more than just Sarah's favorite of trivia, it's a test of who can trust one another & trust will win this season. #DCChallenge
@dc408dxnow: Cory, Dario and Bananas are on the edge. The ladder two are first to go & save their partner in this reprise of what we saw on 1st rivals
@dc408dxnow: Dario & Nicole are 1st. Bananas & Sarah 2nd. Cory & Ashley 3rd. Nate & Christina will finish last as all others will go for safety.
@dc408dxnow: Now Christina going off on Nate after what happened there and they're jungle bound. Now fun part of who goes in to join them in battle.
@dc408dxnow: It's pretty remarkable what we've seen w/ this Boston twin getting the W & now the plans in full force to get this thing executed #DCNOW
@dc408dxnow: Dario has huge call of who to put in as he talks to Wes, but also knows of what happened w/ Cory being on JB's boat as they're at PT table
@dc408dxnow: They're talking at table and discussing what their plans are w/ Cory being in between, and Sarah thinks D is not being good at negotiating
@dc408dxnow: Cory at table and he wants Dario to put JB or Vince in. Now comes the best part: the vote of who goes in. It'll be interesting #DCChallenge
@dc408dxnow: Well... Dario picks Devin & Cheyenne and Cory & Ashley.
@dc408dxnow: Well, it has happened yet again. Another notched decision by the power team which has derailed these plans. It's heated now. #DCChallenge
@dc408dxnow: And now the dominos are falling: Nany is getting into words w/ Nicole and it takes one move & revelation to turn this upside down #DCNOW

And note that, as was written in the 'Pulse diary, I actually missed the last segment of this episode as I was in the bathroom taking care of that business before bed as I had to wake up at 7AM for work and a long 12-hour day.

LOOK BACK: CHEYENNE'S WAKE-UP CALL

On Monday, Are You The One? returns from its holiday break as attention shifts to the latest chapter in the relationship of Giovanni and Kaylen. It's been well-documented on this Challenge of how Team AYTO have fared in Mexico with poor jungle choices, house drama and all else - take what we saw this week as the latest example. And then there's Cheyenne: in addition to having been spared many a time in the Jungle, she has also become close with Cory in the house, before and then after Team Princess were at first eliminated and then returning to the game after one of the three early eliminations by virtue of non-injury related reasons.
For me, the most notable moment of the girl they call "Chey Not Shy" came on her original AYTO season, season 3 last year. There, aside from Devin and his relationship with Kiki, the overarching storyline in the game itself was how poorly the house played that game. Up until the 10th and last try, their cast got no bigger than three light beams at a matchup ceremony, and in week 2 they endured a no-light blackout which cost them $250,000 from their $1 million stake. Considering how bad they were at playing this game, it was no doubt a long shot for them to even get on the board.
It was in Week 5 that after Chelsey and Connor became the first of two perfect matches to be confirmed in the truth booth, it was nonetheless a diamond in the rough as Team Ohana were keeping on hooking up with their non-scientifically compatible partners in the house and didn't yet explore the rest of the dating pool as to who would make a connection. For that week's matchup, the house took a cue from LC, Stephen, Kristen and the Laguna Beach kids in having a black and white party on the patio, with the girls dressing in all white and the guys in all black. The previous night, Chey's non-match in that blackout - and Amanda's partner on this Rivals III season, Nelson, had found out that she and Canadian funny man Zak had hooked up and Nelly got irate and punched out a door. When it came to her turn to meet host Ryan Devlin, this was what happened next...

RYAN DEVLIN: "Well, let's talk about what's going on."
● CHEYENNE: "Yeah, let's f...... talk about it. Someone could've gotten hurt last night. Last night I was scared, and then you (pointing to Nelson) just got up here like it was no big deal?"
● NELSON: "I'm sorry. I don't have nothing to say to you."
● CHEYENNE: "It's f..... up. These guys are so disrespectful the way they treat women, the way they talk to us. I've never seen it. I've literally never seen it, and the fact that this game is set up for us to find love and this is how we're doing it is bizarre! The whole time they're sitting there talking about, 'This is Chuck's funeral,' like Hannah doesn't have feelings. What the f...?! I think you guys need to realize that we all are either gonna win together or we're gonna lose together. All this fighting, all this negativity is gonna bring this house down, and we all know it."
KIKI: "Yeah, Chey! That's exactly what all the girls have been thinking."

For hardcore reality TV fans, the most famous speech ever given by a contestant of these reality competition shows was the one by Sue of the very first Survivor season before Richard Hatch put his name into the history books. The speech Cheyenne gave was one worthy of those of those two words: mic drop. And it's after this that Cheyenne chose, coincidentally enough, Devin.
Once again, they had gotten a low number in only two lights and the morale in the house stay in that mood where they had literally no hope despite their first match. But it's what happened in that 10th and last try where her partner would take the lead and ultimately defy the odds, and we'll look back at that epic comeback later on in our coverage.

And that will do it for this truncated edition of DC WRAP. To get you in the mood for what happens in the Trifecta starting tomorrow, check out the following webcasts:
● On the advice of yours truly, my fellow MTV Insider Andrew Kirk (@CSUGradAKirk) is now uploading some of the best of his SpreeCast interviews on his YouTube channel as the former is shutting down this week. The first one that's up is his highest-rated webcast - him talking to Shanley from AYTO 1 the day after her blow-up with Simone at midway through that first season. Check out that and all his MTV coverage there, on Blog Talk Radio, SpreeCast and and Reality Radio Podcast (@RealityRadioPod) where they are covering not just the Trifecta but also Big Brother as well.
● Earlier this evening, The Brain Candy Podcast/Back to Reality series with Sarah and Susie hosted a bonus edition of their live Q&A which you can check out here. Also check out all of their videos, live shows and more from the unique point of view of Bananas' partner on YouTube and on TheBrainCandyPodcast.com, which also includes their thoughts on the topic of abortion.
● As always, check out the MTV RHAP with Brian Cohen (@BusDriversRoute) & Ali Lasher (@LashsTweets). Now because of the former being on vacation up north to Canada this weekend, Johnny Langan is joining them to discuss this week's episode, but because of technical difficulties it has not been posted yet. But do check out that podcast when it's posted at robhasawebsite.com and check out past shows and his YouTube.
● There's AfterBuzz TV and their recaps of The Challenge and Are You The One?, which you can check out at afterbuzztv.com. Tomorrow, Kaylen and John will join the panel to discuss the show when it returns from its holiday break, and also be sure to catch up on Game of Thrones discussions with AYTO alum Ryan Malaty, and castmate Ashleigh Feaster is discussing Beauty and the Beast.
● And in case you missed it, check out cast interviews by The Ledge Sports when they were joined by Devin last week, and Barstool Sports talking to Challenge legend C.T.

With our usual reminder to bookmark this site for all your Trifecta coverage when we bring you our posts covering this week's episodes restarting next weekend, be sure to stay tuned to DCBLOG for a special DC ExtraTime look back at the first incarnation of The Challenge Rivals.
