Last year, an inaugural all-star class of reality romantics came together in Hawaii for the first season of the American version of Ex On The Beach. One of those who appeared on Season 1 along with a baby daddy, a bad girl and a bachelor was one of several newbies to the MTV crowd in a recurring character on a show that dominates the social buzz on another network that competes with MTV in the battle for viewers' attention in the crowded reality TV sphere. Ironically enough, a person from that show is also good friends with one who's established herself as one of the most polarizing figures to come along in the past few years on MTV, and whose latest chapter came this past week on a show that resembled THAT show.
It's with what happened this past week on Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club, and with its most prominent face outside of its leading figure in a four-time Challenger and a Real World alumnus that we'd thought that we should let you meet a friend of hers and Someone You Should Know: the young lady known simply as Scheana from Bravo's Vanderpump Rules.
West Hollywood is known to many around the world as the eastern terminus of the Sunset Strip, which takes riders on a 1.5 mile drive from there west to Beverly Hills and through a stretch of Sunset Boulevard adorn with restaurants, boutiques, nightclubs, rock clubs and billboards. WeHo is also known to the Southland's large LGBT community as the hub of the gay & lesbian crowd, and whose colors of the rainbow pride flag is on the city's flag and seal.
The town's most prominent gay bar, The Abbey, is where four members of shows currently airing on MTV have tended bar: exes Murray and Cory from Ex On The Beach 2 (and the show they came to EOTB from, 2017 E! docu-series What Happens At The Abbey), and Alex and Mike from Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club. And just down the street from The Abbey, and past the offices of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association -- the body of U.S.-based overseas showbiz journalists who organize the start of awards season in the Golden Globes -- is a restaurant known to those who watch a network once known for airing PBS fare that's now become a favorite channel for the moms & housewives in your family.
Since it premiered in January 2013, Bravo's Vanderpump Rules has followed the lives of the employees at the SUR Restaurant and Lounge, owned in part by Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump. VPR focuses on those who work at SUR and sister operations Pump and TomTom, both at the restaurants themselves and outside of them, while also seeing the employees balancing that work with trying to build their future in the showbiz capital of the world, and also having to get through all the interpersonal drama that comes with being in a place with such a large stature as SUR. The show regularly places at the top of the cable ratings and list of Twitter trending topics on a night that sees it share Mondays with Beach Club, Teen Mom, The Voice, and Dancing with the Stars.
Of course, when Lohan Beach Club premiered back in January, there were many comparisons being made between those two shows. This led Alex, Billy, Brent, Mike, Jonitta and Sara to tell Page Six that they are better in many ways compared to their Southern California counterparts, from them working on an exotic island in Europe compared to a fancy restaurant on the Strip, to them not wanting to be the next person viewers would love to hate - though one of them has certainly become one during what's been an eventful season. And of course, there's hardly anyone nowadays who hasn't seen the now famous viral video of Lindsay doing her famous dance move that she performed at Pride day during this past week's episode.
Someone who MTV fans got to know last year was Faith Stowers, an Army vet who became a waiter at SUR, and who famously made shock waves around this place when she famously led Jax Taylor to cheat on his future wife Brittany Cartwright early in Season 6. It was that now-infamous voicemail which caught MTV's ear to bring Faith onto Ex On The Beach Season 1 as one of the ten singles -- seven of which reality castaways -- who made up the U.S. version's first class, and then flew straight from Hawaii to Africa for The Challenge: Final Reckoning. But while the show's matriarch is the face of the show, the stars of Vanderpump are those work under her wing: Jax, Tom Sandoval, Stassi Schroeder, Katie Maloney-Schwartz, Kristen Doute, and the person of our focus.
During that first season, the world of SUR employees centered around the new girl, Scheana Marie Shay. When she started out on VPR, she had already notched a considerable resume of TV guest roles: FreeForm's Greek, Disney Channel's Jonas with The Jonas Brothers, Victorious with Victoria Justice, The CW's reboot of 90210, and premium series Femme Fatales. She even appeared as herself on Lauren Conrad's final season of The Hills when she was in the background of a night at a club where she, Stacie the Bartender and a friend of theirs went to the same place that Heidi Montag, Stephanie and Holly were partying, and not having any idea that she would soon be in the spotlight in a show taking place in Beverly Hills... nor did Tom when he also appeared on that show, which ironically was an inspiration for Bravo to do its own version of The Hills.
That would come to pass for Scheana when she appeared in several episodes on earlier seasons of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills with Lisa and the rest of that show's cast, which also a member of the Maloof family (which once owned The Palms in Vegas that hosted the original Real World Vegas and the Sacramento Kings), two former child actresses and an ex-wife of Kelsey Grammer. She cameoed on several episodes of the parent series before heading to SUR when rumors were abound about her affair with an ex-husband of one of the main Housewives cast members. And when she came to the spinoff, Scheana balanced being a SUR server at night and on the weekend with being an aspiring actress and singer by day, releasing a few dance/pop singles.
Also documented on Vanderpump have been many things: a first performance at the famed Roxy club, a lap dance gone bad in front of SUR's assistant manager (ala, Ruthie on RW Hawaii), and birthday parties including a costume party for her 30th soiree and the time she left a couple employees off her 32nd masquerade b'day bash which doubled as the reveal party for her new boyfriend - just before the Jax & Faith bombshell. And of course, there are the many friendships formed & broken, countless blowups with her employees over their business, and other drama which have, among other things, enthralled those who watch this show.
Scheana's love life has been well documented, starting from the very first episode when a past affair with a married man caused Stassi and the rest of her employees to have a sketchy view of her. Only after that Scheana started to make her first move when she made a play for Stassi's man Jax. Eventually, in 2014 she and Michael Shay tied the knot in front of family, friends and employees just after an eventful bachelorette party in Miami and before a meltdown of a planned perfect wedding day went wrong, but two years later they signed away the divorce papers when word of Mike's secret life became public knowledge on the show and following a rocky two-year relationship.
Robby & Scheana |
Also during this season, Scheana spurred rumors of a mega-reality romance when she went on a date with Robby Hayes from Season 12 of The Bachelorette, which was the second time that they had been spotted together after vacationing out in Hawaii. Robby was on the same Bachelorette cast as Chase McNary and Chad Johnson, who later went on the first two seasons of Ex On The Beach (and the former to War of the Worlds), and for whom Robby finished ahead of both in the quest to win over JoJo Fletcher, but fell short. Scheana isn't the only reality alum Robby is linked with: two years ago, Instagram pix suggested that he was dating Kathryn Palmer from Are You The One? Season 5, but reaffirmed that they were just friends with common roots in being Florida State alums and going for love on reality TV.

Kailah loved the host city of her first MTV season of Las Vegas so much, that shortly after filming the Florida native decided to move there permanently. And through the packed Rolodex of celebrity contacts her boyfriend Mikey P. has notched -- for which they've gotten to hang with the likes of Kevin Hart, Floyd Mayweather, Lil' Jon and Shiggy of "In My Feelings" viral challenge fame, last year during Spring Break festivities at one of the Strip's many pool parties, Kailah got to meet Scheana for the first time. They've hung out many times ever since thanks to the one-hour plane ride from L.A. to Vegas - including hosting a tequila Tuesday party at The D hotel in downtown.
And in the wake of this past week's events, Scheana nabbed the first exit interview with Kailah on her podcast, Scheananigans. Her podcast series has also talked to not only her, Robby and her VPR castmates, but also to Joss from The Challenge, Jasmine from Ex On The Beach S1, Frankie Delgado and Staci the Bartender from The Hills, and current Bachelor star Colton Underwood, among others.

That's exactly what happened with Ronnie and his baby mama, Jen Harley, when their many battles made headlines in both seasons of the Jersey Shore spinoff, and for which Kailah and Mikey P. were invited to his baby shower for baby girl Ariana Sky as seen on the Season 2 premiere last August. But it was while Season 1 was airing last spring (filmed before she gave birth the same week of its premiere, and which offered its large lead-in audience to EOTB) that spurred more rumors: in videos captured on Scheana's Instagram story, she, him, Kailah and Mikey gathered at her condo to watch the Vanderpump Season 6 finale together where Jax quit his job at SUR.
A viewing party Scheana called "their own reality show" came hours after Ronnie and Jen got into an argument on the stairs of her home which was broadcast on Instagram Live and saw them break up in front on thousands of followers who had their jaws dropped watching this private drama turned public unfold on their phones. Scheana told E! News, "He had a rough day. He was with Mikey P and Mikey and I have been friends and I said, look if [Ronnie] needs a distraction, you guys are welcome to come over and watch the finale with me. He can watch me look like an ass... Everyone came over and we have so much fun. We played Cards Against Humanity... We had a few good laughs."
Strangely enough, at the end of one of the most tense days he's ever had - and later saying sorry to those who had to endure that fight, a photo captured on the stories saw Ronnie hold up a card in that game that read, "MTV's new reality show features eight washed-up celebrities living with [blank]," one that Kailah would say, "LOL the best card ever tonight." And Mikey defended Ronnie in captioning on IG, "There are two sides to every story. I don’t give a f— what you think you saw or heard or whatever. I've been one of @realronniemagro’s best friends for 10 years now. Don’t come at me with some bulls___, I ain't tryna hear it. PIPE DOWN. #rideformydogs."
There is now another thing in common among a show Bravo turned into its own version of The Hills and a show its figurehead dubbed the "hip, cool and edgier" version of that knockoff. Both know what it's like to work for a boss lady who's consistently in the public eye: one on a reality show and approaching age 60, the other who's much younger and who's had more tabloid headlines than you can count with your fingers. Kailah, of course, had many dealings with Lindsay Lohan which scored her more fans and even more haters to both her and her boss, while Vanderpump has many people reporting to her who have such great stature in Hollywood, including Scheana. And both Scheana and Kailah are close friends, proving again how small this reality world really is.
