Inside MTV Reality: The Challenge WRAP - Total Madness Episodes 5 & 6

Hello again and welcome back... there is now a little bit of clarity in the world of the Total Madness of Season 35 of The Challenge: we saw one relationship between a fiery Challenger and her rapper boyfriend of three years come crashing down by her affection with a bear from Britain, while another is in a rocky place once again (but we know how it's turned out in a ring).

But what matters most is what goes on on the playing surface: two challenges have seen teams pair up to go for a ride, complete a puzzle and run like the wind en route to blowing things up... and the other involving doing stunts like we're in a movie. And in between all of this, we had an elimination that saw a strong rookie run come to an end.

After the break, our DCBLOG Challenge WRAP brings you right up to speed on the past two weeks of Total Madness before the latest elimination goes down in the Purgatory - an extended edition due to the TBC that occurred last week. Plus, we'll have a final tribute to a friend to many of us in the MTV fandom... that's all ahead.

 THINGS TO KNOW
EPISODES 5 & 6

BOMB SQUAD: We begin with the week before last's challenge, and a noticeable improvement from when the teams tackled water and nearly saw Nelson freeze. Teams of four compete to enjoy a joyride in a moving car on one side to try and memorize numbers, another makes a math puzzle, the third can feel like Forest Gump for a moment, and a fourth will once again blow things up. While two teams don't even finish the course, the rest of the teams do... and for a man who loves stock numbers by day, Swaggy C is given the task of doing the math as he leads a Big Brother/British team of him, Kaycee, Josh and Jenny to power team status.

WES' RIVALRIES: If you've been seeing his feed, Wes is providing us with another edition of the concept of the Staying Relevant series, but here in the bunker it's a different kind of ginger - other than the ceasefire with Bananas. First, he has been at odds with Jordan when they were on Rivals II and then on Exes II, including when 3-time champ thought Wes took 'roids. Above, Jordan tries again with having a sausage in his face as Wes gives him a low blow of his own: mentioning Tori. And second, there's Josh: when he is summoned into meeting him and the Big Brother tribunal, Wes once again rekindles what happened last year as they meet again...

JAY vs. ROGAN: For what turns out to be the lone elimination of this whole two-week period (the reason this post is up later rather than last Wed.), Wes is among three candidates for the tribunal to choose to be the opponent for Jay, who is voted by the entire field of losers to go into the purgatory for the third time... should he be victorious he would join elite company in earning a rookie hat trick in elimination. Instead of the tribunal choosing entirely who would go in, Jay does the job for them in wanting to have Rogan come down. This is what happens next...

THE BEAR & KAILAH AFFAIR: Going into this season, Kailah had a long-term relationship going with her rapper boyfriend Mikey P., who himself was on MTV's "From G's to Gents" with Fonzworth Bentley back in the 2000's along with his music career and being a Vegas promoter. Bear, on the other hand, had a thing going with Georgia on War of the Worlds, and who's had a history of relationship drama on British tellies. He knew that she had a man back home, and she knew that coming back onto The Challenge would carry weight that one false move could mean the end of things. And then, it happens in the bathroom...

But that's not all: after what goes down there, Bear continues pursuing Kailah in the wake of that hookup and her cheating on her man, which causes her to deal with the consequences. He continues by deciding to talk to the world's newest bromance about wanting to do what Kailah did to Kayleigh: go into her stuff and impress her with a new boom boom room. It ends the same way as it did on Vendettas: a prank gone bad.

AS JENNA & ZACH'S WORLD TURNS: We know where they're at right now... but let's stay with where we are here: as we gave them their own post here two years ago, it has been quite a journey for Jenna & Zach. As she came onto here, her goal was to make it to the final again and hope to cash, so that when it's time to step away from these, their future would be set. But with her being away once again, Jenna spots some sketchy things going on with Zach when he doesn't answer her calls, and then finding out about DM's being checked. And the soap opera continues as this goes along...

FAST & FURIOUS: And for last week's challenge, once again it's back onto the road and everyone wanting to become stuntmen for the final installment of the Fast & Furious series when that comes around then. A high-speed challenge awaits the challengers in putting together a puzzle while in motion... and this intricate game sees many teams not even finishing it when their time limit elapses. Nelson's arrogance gets the best of Aneesa as he blows up, while Bayleigh struggles in her turn and Melissa overcomes her small size to impress everyone despite being in the early stages of pregnancy. In the end, it's Jordan & Nany who are victorious, and they pick Jenna for their extra spot.

 ENDGAME
JENNA & MIKEY SPEAK OUT...

In the wake of what went down in the past two weeks of all this, one figure from this house and another who was boyfriend to one of her two allies here got to speak out in Twitter notes.

First, Jenna posted a lengthy note to respond to the FaceTime she had with Zach in last week's episode. Even as those like Allan Aguirre have went in on her relationship with Zach (where, this season is taking place in autumn of last year before he proposed to her under the New York 30 Rock Christmas tree), Jenna took the time to address what happened and how, like most every relationship, is not as picture perfect as what we see on Instagram.

The other response belongs to Kailah's now ex-boyfriend Mikey P., who we've featured here before, and whose celeb contacts has allowed me to feature those he & Kailah met like Floyd Mayweather, Kevin Hart, the Jersey Shore guys and Scheana of Vanderpump Rules. Being the upbeat guy he always is, Mikey has nothing but great memories with her as he got to share a classy final word on Kailah... they'll always have those tattoos.

 REMEMBERING
MORGAN MacADAM

As we have been hard at work on this week's expanded episode coverage (and with one more post to come your way after tonight's episode airs), at the same time we have been doing this while nursing a heavy heart. It's no secret that 2020 has been a tough year and recently we learned of a loss that took place long before all of what has happened since, but the impact has nonetheless affected yours truly and those of us in the MTV Reality fandom.

@MorganMacAdam
A week ago, we learned of the sudden & untimely passing last September of a social media follower of me & others in this world, Chicago native Morgan MacAdam. But it was only last Monday that my longtime friend Andrew Kirk found out about her death, and Morgan's loss hit me, him & those of us who were her friends on here hard. Like the both of us, she also shared a passion for Real World and The Challenge, and Morgan was there when Andrew began podcasting on the MTV beat and I began following these shows I love & its people on social media, both in the summer of 2012 when we started this ride down in the Virgin Islands.

Out of respect, we will not delve more into specific details or even on her life outside of this MTV world, but I do have this fond remembrance of her: although we never met in person being some 2,000 miles away from where we're situated in Northern California, Morgan was always a great friend to me on social media and I'll always be appreciative of that. But she was most especially close with Andrew, and who frequently contributed to his discussions and cast interviews when he was the source in a then small world of MTV Reality talk, starting in podcasts & then in the visual side of it. And he had the chance last week to provide a poignant tribute to her on his Big Time Reality TV show embedded below.

Morgan's loss leaves an empty seat in our fandom that may never be filled, and already she is sorely missed by me, Andrew and those of us who've been together on this ride ever since we embarked on this journey eight years ago. We still feel this pain even now as we've just marked Mother's Day as those in the MacAdam family are spending their first holidays without her presence... the same goes for all of those who have been suffering in this time of global uncertainty, and even before that as well after the deaths of Kobe Bryant & AYTO's Alexis Eddy earlier this year before the virus panic.

You saw above the picture she had with Challengers Paula & Cohutta from when she met them on Spring Break in Acapulco, Mexico in 2009, and below is another pic Morgan tweeted of her meeting Road Rules icons Kendal & Tori Hall, along with a Real World audition tape she made for the Portland season on YouTube in 2012. The rest of our DCBLOG coverage of Total Madness will be dedicated in Morgan MacAdam's memory, and we are sure that she's enjoying this season with Diem, Knight & the angels up above as much as you are. So long for now, and rest easy Morgan.
