DC ExtraTime: Wonderful Christmastime in Ex Land

As the holidays of Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas and New Year's are now officially behind us on this back to work & school day, the cold weather hasn't left us in most of the country here in this "Blue Monday" - the Monday after the holiday break for kids and adults everywhere. But that doesn't diminish the magic of the coldest time of the year as "Cuffing Season" is in full bloom in January, and retailers' focus turns now to supplying the candy for Valentine's Day, which this year falls on a Friday among many holidays that will take place on or during the weekend this 2020.

Ex On The Beach has been playing into the theme of love ever since its debut on British telly's six years ago, and it arriving in America two years ago. Its fourth season of the U.S. iteration, Peak of Love, rolls along with big name stars from around the reality world having their winter vacation crashed by their exes, while over in Britain the show returns with a Celebrity version this month as Love Islander turned Challenger Georgia Harrison is part of that series' cast along with Georgie Shore vet Sophie Kasaei.

And over the holidays, three of those who were cast onto the U.S. version as singles who moved into the house at the beginning -- and a fourth who came as an Ex a few years after he made his MTV debut on Are You The One -- got to mark the magic of yuletide with two things that are a common sight at Christmastime: decorating and giving back.

EOTB USA has produced two notable romances involving two-thirds of The Challenge alliance of The Young Bucks ("TYB"): Cory Wharton & Taylor Selfridge who met each other on Season 1 and now are awaiting her first baby & his second child, and whose journey in parenthood has been and will be documented on the next season Teen Mom OG as part of the ecosystem of the mom of his first kid, Cheyenne Floyd. And for the other one, it's two who met on Season 2 and like Cory & Taylor, are still together.

Angela Babicz also went onto Season 1 and left with a romance with basketball'er Tor'i Brooks, but after that went down the drain she returned to Season 2 as a midseason addition, where she had to confront her ex there, just as she did with the first Ex to ever pop up on the beach in reality dating fave Derrick H.  But on the bright side, the Bad Girl got to meet the one who's now become her boyfriend in AYTO Season 3 alum and many times Challenger Nelson Thomas, and the saga began there of their twisted relationship that has seen them break up and make up so many times.

Their love drama was enough for America's favorite psychologist, Dr. Phil McGraw, to bring them onto his talk show for two episodes last autumn for some Couples Therapy that saw a larger audience than the cable universe of nowadays get to see their 2-day session free over the air instead of behind the cable paywall. After they were separated at the time of their taping, Angela & Nelson got back together after that cringy appearance, and it's been nothing but love ever since for #Nelgela.

In the week before Christmas, the couple got to film a new Christmas edition of Angela's vlogs on YouTube... but only after waiting for him to come home from a fairly early winter's vacation, to put it bluntly. There, they got to dress up in onesies and decorated their tree - much later than most of us who usually get into that holiday mood around Thanksgiving. And you'll never guess what outfit Nelson got to put on to decorate that tree, after he dressed up as a lobster during his Ex season.

And last week, #Nelgela got to say farewell to 2019 in the company of hundreds of thousands who flew to Las Vegas for its annual New Year's Eve celebrations. The events that take place in Sin City on December 31st are the largest on the West Coast, where fireworks pop off the top of various hotels along the Strip at the stroke of midnight... and this doesn't take into account the assortment of big names who take over the city's clubs to party all night long into the early hours of 2020.

Angela & Nelson rung in 2020 in the company of their fellow MTV'er Kam Williams and rising star Lizzo playing at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on New Year's Eve and then watched the midnight fireworks show from one of the many top-floor penthouses of one of the small handful of independent resort casinos on the Strip (and a preferred hotel for me & my parents when we go there every year). While they were there, they also got to meet up with another MTV queen in his former AYTO castmate in the aforementioned Cheyenne, just after she, Cory and Taylor got to celebrate Christmas together with her kid Ryder... more on that in next week's wave.

Once again, people everywhere flocked to malls and their mobile apps to spend millions to buy Christmas gifts for their loved ones and sometimes for themselves. But amidst this ultimate season for retailers everywhere and Santa spreading his cheer to kids the world over, there were also some who decided to become their very own Jolly Old St. Nick in giving gifts to children who are not as fortunate this holiday season. And two of those Angela got to live with in her two EOTB houses got to do something good over the holidays.

A year ago at this time on EOTB Season 2, Corey Brooks was dealing with two relationships: an all-CBS love triangle involving him, Big Brother alum Morgan Willett and her Survivor ex Jay Starrett, and a bromance with cuddling partner Jozea Flores. But perhaps his most notable moment of 2019 came after the reunion aired when he & Jay's boxing session on the beach was interrupted by their videographer getting shook upon Bradley Cooper and his girlfriend popping up on camera and their reactions gone viral. It's a much different scenario than it was in the same BB18 house that's given us him, Jozea, Paulie, Natalie and Da'Vonne, and whose entries two years ago to Ex and The Challenge predated last summer's eventual merger between MTV parent Viacom and CBS.

Ever since that summer 2016 he spent in that famous BB house, Corey has had his own holiday tradition: helping out children's hospitals by delivering toys and supporting kids & their families with what they want for Christmas. For each succeeding winter, Corey's Elves has afforded him the opportunity to do something good and being so very generous when so many of us are not as fortunate and/or whose budgets are so tight that they can't afford to buy gifts under the tree. And for 2019, Corey's Elves hosted its first annual Toy Drive and he went up to the Mile High City where he got some help from a fellow Ex alum who also debuted on reality TV back in that same summer '16.

Tonight, airline pilot Peter Weber from last year's season of The Bachelorette took off on his journey as this year's lead star on the 2020 season of The Bachelor months after the memorable fling inside of a windmill with him and Hannah Brown and the eventual heartbreak he had to endure during that memorable 2019 in Bachelor Nation. Tomorrow, Season 3 of Siesta Key will welcome an alum of love TV's biggest franchise when Robby Hayes of Bachelorette Season 12 joins the cast by way of his relationship with Juliette Porter, the fifth member of JoJo Fletcher's season to pop up on MTV post-roses & love, and the first one to do so also made his return to the Nation last year.

Chase McNary was part of the final three with Robby and JoJo's eventual fiance Jordan Rodgers, and who also was on that cast with future Ex singles Chad Johnson and Daniel Maguire. In MTV matters, Chase famously rejected the necklace of Victoria in the EOTB1 finale and had to watch his Challenge partner Ashley M. lose in the first elimination on War of the Worlds. He might not have enjoyed his time in cable'ville that much, but last summer Chase returned to familiar settings on Bachelor in Paradise as a midseason entry to the Villa, but didn't find love in Mexico either - though he had fans watching him at his viewing parties at the Revel bar he works at in Denver.

On the weekend before Christmas, Corey and Chase got to host that toy drive where those who went to Revel dropped off toys for the kids, and the Ex alums then went to Children's Hospital Colorado to drop them off to these always inspirational young children who spent their holidays in hospital beds rather than at home with their loved ones. Chase wrote on Instagram @Chase_Brody_McNary, "The power of a smile is truly amazing.⁣.. Today, we were able to take, literally a truckload of those toys to The Children’s hospital and bring so many smiles to bunch of kiddos fighting hard for their health everyday. ⁣A powerful event to say the least! Thank you to @coreybrooks and all my staff at REVEL Social for helping us make this happen!"
